Simply the very best Corn Beef Hash I have ever had, and I do sample whenever CBH is on the menu. Eggs perfectly poached. Wow! Service also excellent. Friendly, welcoming, open and bright dining area, seasonal outside tables. Toast not quite up to the quality of the CBH (is there not a local baker as an alternative to shipped from Los Angeles?). I had the heart and soul breakfast and wow. It was the best breakfast I have ever had. And I eat a lot of breakfast. I had scrambled eggs. Ham, home fries and toast. Seems normal right. Well, I don't know if the breakfast or the home fries came with it but it had sautéed spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, onion, home fries and sliced up ham steak. It was so good together. Usually any type of potatoes are dry. These home fries soaked up the juices from the veggies and was wonderful. My wife had the French toast and it was excellent. My daughter had blueberry pancakes that I tried several times. They were awesome. Yes homemade (I assume but didn't ask) jelly on the table was great. Service was spot on. Nice food, nice service. But the girls are clearly overloaded with work. They were perfectly polite and the food was good but there was that slight feeling that they can't wait to see you out of the door to clear the place for the next customer. Totally understandable since at the time we were visiting it was the only place in town you could sit in for breakfast. read more

A friend and I stopped here for brunch after hiking Blue Lakes and were pleasantly surprised with the BEST brunch we've ever had. We were lucky enough to snag a table on the enchanting little patio right away. We ordered the Rocky Mountain omelette, huevos rancheros, 3-stack buttermilk pancakes, and two coffees. All of it was absolutely delicious. The standouts were the home fries (perfectly crispy), the pancakes (so fluffy with powdered sugar and HOT SYRUP), the huevos rancheros (eggs perfectly done with awesome green Chile sauce), and the sourdough bread with the omelette (which my friend ate with the berry compote on the table). We were so hungry and left so happy. My only complaint is that this isn't closer to my house. read more

The hostess/waitress is absolutely the rudest hostess/ waitress I have ever come across. She, believe it or not, yelled at us for sitting down after we were told to sit anywhere . Nothing like being scolded in front of an entire restaurant. On the other hand the food is very good. Just don't do ANYTHING without the blessing of the girl with the long black braided hair. This is one of the best breakfast spots in the country. I don't say that as a local either. I'm from Portland Oregon (Kate's would crush it in foodie mecca Portland). I spend a week ice climbing in Ouray every year. On our ride to the airport we always stop here for breakfast. It never disappoints. Service us super friendly and fast. Your coffee cup never runs empty. The menu has a very down homey southwestern flare. When chili verde meets egg its sublime. I dream about the cheese grits. Next year I'm going huevos rancheros. Busy Sunday morning there was a wait list. We were seated after a while and ordered coffee and omelettes, then the wait began. We waited patiently, waiting for more coffee, waiting for food. Then we realized that parties that came after us were eating, finishing and leaving, this was a couple tables. The couple next to us said they waited a long time for their food too. My husband asked one of the waitresses about our omelettes, she snapped at him, and said " We're busy!!!", pretty ugly attitude. The couple next to us said, " Wow!, she didn't need to be that way !" So we waited some more, when we should have left then. Finally the food came out, barely warm, obviously had been forgotten about and had been sitting back in the kitchen. Think this place has gone down hill, have eaten at Kates many times over the years , and was always pretty good, we don't live far so was always a good choice when passing through Ridgway. Think they are busy because of reputation, but that won't last . Next time we'll just go across the street, Kate's isn't the only game in town. So in a nutshell we paid $40 plus for 2 cups of coffee and two breakfasts that were inedible. Most places would have corrected their mistake, not Kates, so disappointing. Needs new management, and lose the attitude. read more

This place is great! We stopped in for a late breakfast, and were we glad we did! My wife got the corned beef hash and said it was the best she's ever had (now because we've been eating very low carbs for over 9 months now it could have just been the tater carbs talking... but it looked really good). I got an omelet special, and it was HUGE and delicious. I also splurged and got the grits... they were awesome... buttery, cheesey... drool. (Note see carb comment above however...). Also got a side of bacon, and it was 1st class bacon. Kids both got chocolate chip pancakes and enjoyed them, they to were big. The service was a tad slow, especially considering they weren't busy, but not worth deducting points - just wish she'd have done a better job on keeping the coffee flowing - I have needs. read more

Kate's is in a sunny and cheerful renovated house just off main st. The food is sourced locally and the animal products are hormone-free. My husband and I split the chipotle chorizo burrito with sour cream and avocado *included* (no upcharge) for $9 and $2 split plate and it was delicious and plenty for both of us. After you have waited over 20 minutes at Kate's for the incompetent hostess to NOT put you on a waiting list be sure to walk across the street to CRUMB bakery where they have incredible huevos rancheros and lots of gluten free choices, shaded outdoor tables and great staff. We try to get to Kate's Place every time we are in Ridgeway. Sometimes there is a wait, but it is so worth it. We have enjoyed the Sneffels Skillet a few times, the huevos rancheros and some omelets. I brought my parents here as they were visiting from Michigan. We expected a wait. We were told it would be a 15-30 minute wait. It took 43 minutes before they called us and they seated 3 tables ahead of us who arrived after we did. We know that calling ahead is not a possibility so we can only assume that they seated parties out of order. I would understand if they were all small parties but that wasn't the case as they seated larger parties before us who arrived after us. There were 4 of us with an understanding and observation of every detail. What I do know is that the young-ish lady with brown short hair was extremely rude to my husband. He just went in to check where we were on the waitlist and said he'd been waiting for over 30 minutes and she told him he was wrong and essentially a liar. Wtf. If you work in hospitality or Customer service, I get it - I've done that. But be decent. If you can't, this isn't the job for you. The lady who waited on us was thankfully not this same young jerk and she was amazingly kind. We didn't do anything wrong but we were immediately treated poorly by this idiot of a young lady. When she finally got ready to seat us she yelled "MIKE!?" to which I said "Do you mean John?" And she basically said yeah, close enough. She's going to hurt this business and it's an easy fix. If she's not happy and unpleasant let her go. read more

Meh. Not a happy vibe. Ordered the beef sandwich and realized I didn't get the blue cheese I wanted because I wasn't asked about the option. Also didn't get the horseradish sauce because "most people don't like it". Small portion of fries and the sandwich was good but more bun than beef. All of that is no big deal but the worst part is that there were HUNDREDS of flies. They were everywhere as I couldn't keep them off me as I was trying to eat. I had a corned beef sandwich rather than the reuben on the menu and the meat was very tasty. I enjoyed that the food was high quality, but typically with high quality food comes high quality presentation. Our food was cold and stale. It's almost as though they prepared everything early in the morning and then dished it out buffet style. The home fries were small proportioned - I could fit all the potatoes in my one of my small-girly hands (maybe 1 cup worth?). They were also stale and cold. Tasted like leftover potatoes when you reheat them in the microwave. THe eggs were cooked how I asked them which was good! The bacon - stale and hard. Service was great - friendly and quick. Stumbled across this place by accident (not on the main thoroughfare) and were very pleasantly surprised. We sat in the outdoor patio area with our dog by our side. Highly recommend the Reuben which may be halved (plenty of food) along with a salad, or soup, that seemed straight from a local garden. All dressings are homemade and excellent.
