Just looking for a place to have a great mocha coffee, relax, and read a good book THIS is it. We sometimes just get too busy to stop & smell the coffee beans. Staff will let you alone while you search for a book, but if you need anything they are right there to help out. The attitudes of the 2 workers. Customer service sucks. Charge $31.00 for 2 burritos and 2 coffees. My husband's cold brew tasted funny (to me too) and I asked if he could get a drip coffee with ice instead. They made me go to the back of the line (7 people) and then wanted to charge for his remake. She said, well you ordered it!...Really! We've never been here before and how were we to know. One of the locals came outside while we were eating and apologized for the worker's attitudes and customer service. She said it's not usually like that. I told her we won't be back. Great coffee, locally roasted in Montrose. Despite there being a really long wait, the only barista in here handled professionally and was not flustered. A group came in and ordered 4 large pots of coffee on the spot. I think that it was through everything off instead of there not being a policy to order it ahead of time. The barista was really rude to me and my husband, not a fan of their customer service at all. She rolled her eyes and scowled every time a customer walked in. Our drinks were made fast, and the menu was easy and not overwhelming. There was a sweet older lady trying to make friendly conversation with the barista and he was not all that kind. Just went into this coffee shop. Ridgeway is such a groovy little town. The gentleman in front of me ordering was being very difficult and the girl behind the counter with the curly hair wasn't really speaking much at all. I figured the guy upset her. When I got to the counter to order, I tried to be very friendly to try to make her feel better, I placed my order which she did hear and she says "huh"? Somewhat forcefully. Trying to be funny I said I will have a regular latte with regular coffee and regular milk and she said "well that's special "the attitude was very disappointing and quite shocking. We did some kayaking at the state park and then headed over. Great dog friendly patio with shade. Service was friendly and our pups even got a little treat (I seriously have created monsters with treat cups at coffee shops!). Full disclosure: First, I'm not a coffee drinker. Second, my brother Eric owns this shop and the roastery in Montrose. I finally had a chance to visit recently and wanted to share my thoughts to encourage others to check it out. While I don't go in for the bean-fuel (I'm hyper enough without additives), I enjoy coffee houses for reading and writing and chilling when there's a space I like. As far as coffee houses go, this one is the perfect size for one who likes comfort and quiet in a space that isn't totally disconnected from the world. Enough room for small crowds to get their coffee on but still cozy. I love how the seating is away from the buying area--with a cute bookstore nook between--so when you want to sit in peace, you can do so even when the front is busy. It's also conveniently located on the main drag. As for the coffee, I can only tell you what every coffee friend I've bought gift coffee for (and my family of deeply committed imbibers) has told me: IT'S EXCELLENT! (Their emphasis, I swear). And since his coffee has won high praise from CoffeeReview.com, it would seem experts are starting to agree. The store sells the coffee by the bag, too. As a fringe non-beaner, I was pleased to see some varied offerings that included tea, organic juices, and San Pelligrino. There are also pastries that looked yummy. If you're not into coffee or tea or even coffee houses, then you can find a new read at bookstore that's attached--David Sedaris caught my eye, and a nice section of cookbooks, so the selection is varied. Or stay and check out the local art the walls showcase. No matter your taste, it's worth a stop. read more

I used to go here all the time but it's gone down hill the last year or two. Not to mention the staff acts like you're an inconvenience. Every mountain town needs at least one great coffee shop and Cimarron fits the bill for Ridgeway. Great coffee is only part of the experience as the staff here is friendly and engaging. I watched with much admiration as the staff dealt with an influx of Ride the Rockies riders this June. The Ride the Rockies organizers dropped the ball with the caterer (they stopped showing up to feed us) they had hired for the event. This meant that each town we visited was over run with grumpy cyclist looking for their daily caffeine fix and a morning pastry to fuel their rides. The staff at Cimarron rose to the challenge. As a previous business owner and working in customer service for over 18 years I have to give this place 2 stars. The barista was a total Asshole. Not sure if she was having a bad day but my only recommendation is maybe smile and not be a dick to customers who AREN'T miserable. I did leave a tip in hopes maybe she'd be nice afterwards. I requested a small amount of syrup in my drink for my child because too much sugar doesn't work well with kids on road trips (parents get it). This little shop in Ridgway is a perfect spot for a nice coffee and sit-down. Wifey loved their cappuccinos and I enjoyed the espresso very much! We were in town for the week and made sure to get down to Cimarron every morning and even most afternoons. Do you recall the coffeehouse in Friends where Joey, Rachel, Ross, Phoebe, Monica, and Chandler used to hang out? Well, Cimarron is kind of like Central Perk - just with better coffee, more books, and snow-capped mountains. Lots of mountains! And less Manhattanites, too. Unless they are passing through town en route to Telluride. Otherwise, it's a dependable preserve of fleece-clad Subaru drivers from the area, with the occasional vacationers or road trippers thrown in for good measure. The coffee beans for sale (10 oz. packages) and used in the espresso drinks and served as drip (in press pots on the counter) are roasted in nearby Montrose, but the coffeehouse bookstore is located here, occupying the lower section of a modest local retail space and boasting some attractive landscaping and outdoor seating options. We stopped in for coffee following an early morning's drive on US-550 from New Mexico, and it was all we wanted and more: a freshly made pot of Ethiopian coffee on drip, a bag of beans for making pourovers at the next campsite, and a great selection of travel, nature, and hiking books for browsing while we waited. If you want a copy of Desert Solitaire, or Cheryl Strayed's Wild, or Michelle Obama's healthy eats gardening cookbook, or the best day hikes in the San Juan Mountains, they are all there, waiting patiently for you to discover. The roaster at Cimarron has some sort of connection to Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters in San Francisco, and it certainly shows in the high quality single origin beans available. The service in-store was friendly and professional, and the outdoor seating area w/ fast complimentary wifi was perfect for catching up on email and checking weather reports before hitting the road. All in all, it did feel a little like a 1990s sitcom, full of happy people, contentedly caffeinated customers, and lots of actual books on the shelves for one to enjoy. While there aren't pourovers available, the drip coffee was quite good, esp. the single origin offering: medium roast, freshly brewed, and served in sturdy ceramic mugs. Hard to complain about any of that, and when you add it the Rocky Mountain backdrop, green meadows, and quaking aspens, well you won't be missing Friends reruns for an instant! (Now if only I could get that Rembrandt's theme song, "I'll Be There for You," out of my head ...) read more
