I had my hair done earlier this year with a full highlight and a haircut. I expressed some concerns about my piercings to my stylist, which were not followed resulting in injury to my ear and my earring being damaged. She used products and performed services on me in addition to what I had scheduled without informing me of the prices, or even asking if I wanted those products or services. This tacked on at least $100 in additional fees, coming out to ~$400. My hair came out stripey and uneven. It's been about a month now, and it looks like my hair hasn't been touched up in three months. I have attached a photo of what it looked like 2 days after the service. read more

When is the last time you've said a haircut changed your life? The haircut I got last spring from Rena at Katana did just that. True story. Scouts honor. (Ok I wasn't a scout or even a Brownie, but I did go on one outing with the Brownies) So, it started when Rena--who knew what cut would look good and frame my face and the perfect highlights to match gave me the cutest bob. When I left the salon I was a little nervous cuz it was short and blonde. Soon after I was literally getting stopped on the streets by people asking me where I got my hair cut. Newfound fame, an improved love life and a new job followed---life changing---you be the judge. Fast forward a year later and I recently got stopped in a local hotel by the concierge---"Where do you get your hair cut?" she asked. For serious. Here's the rest of the deets: The salon is small and inviting with plenty of magazines and sometimes tea and treats in the waiting area. The staff is friendly and often very social. I love love love this salon! It took me a little while to find the right fit but Tommy is pretty much my favorite person on the planet. He's adorable, he listens to what I want done to my hair, and executes it perfectly. His prices are also quite reasonable for the quality of work that he does. The salon itself is well decorated and relaxing and the front desk staff is always kind and courteous. The part I'm happiest about is that the owner, Kathy makes sure they stand by their work. She understands that the outcome of salon services can be really subjective and while the stylist may think they did a stellar job it may not be what you were looking for. When I first started going here I was seeing a less experienced stylist than Tommy and my hair ended up wayyyy darker than I wanted it. My hair is very fine and totally plays by its own rules. So while the mishap really wasn't even the stylist's fault, I was still set up with a senior colorist who stripped the color out at no cost to me. While it seems to me like the right thing for them to do, I don't know of any other salons that would fix something like that at a loss to them. I also see April for brows and she's super down to earth, fun to talk to, and does a great job. This is just all around a great salon. My only complaint is that parking can be really brutal on weekends because it's on-street. read more

I took advantage of a coupon to get a facial for half off at Katana about a month ago. It was a very relaxing experience, and I left with my skin feeling great. I also bought one of the products the esthetician used on me, and I've been pretty happy with it. However, the environment itself was a bit noisy - they were doing some renovation to expand into space next door. I understand that type of work can be noisy, but I wish they had told me about that when I booked my appointment. The esthetician did apologize for the noise, at least. Not sure if I'd go back and pay full price for a facial. read more

She takes the time to make sure she's giving you the cut you want for the lifestyle you lead. Katana is very inviting and the spa is so relaxing. I love the look and feel of the space (I love the old Hollywood lights and mirrors where I get my makeup done for events!). I feel comfortable there because I know I'm in good hands. And I've been there many times for different services, facials, brow waxings, blow outs, and each time I have received the best care. Normally I see either Alana or April for my brows, they are the best! The estheticians are knowledgeable about the services and products and really helped me decide what is best for my skin. The owner came in while the girl was doing my hair and started yelling at her in front of me. I have never seen such rudeness and evil come out of someone especially towards their own staff. I honestly thought I was on the show 'what would you do". I sat up out of the chair and said "excuse me?" And she snapped her neck right at me and started yelling at me saying that we both should leave now-meanwhile my hair is in the process. She then continued to scream at this girl cutting my hair in front of me I felt so scared and uncomfortable. Definitely not coming back. I ended up calling my mom and telling her what was happening and the owner tried to apologize saying it's the girls fault and stuff but definitely shouldn't have happened in a salon full of people . read more

Guys, I suggest finding another. I had awesome haircuts from master barbers Marina and Joanne, but they both moved on. After the success with a barber, I went to a local barber shop where the cut was okay, but not as good as before. I decided to give Katana another try even though they didn't have a master barber on staff. The cut was weak. When the stylist was done and asking what I thought, I had to point out to her that one side of my hair was longer than the other. I wasn't an easy customer as I had let my hair get pretty long, but having your hair touch/cover your ear in the same place seems pretty basic. I also had to wait 30 minutes because something got screwed up in the scheduling. They did give me a glass of red wine while I waited to take the edge off. read more

First I had a facial with charity. It had been awhile since my last facial so she had her work cut out for her. I was impressed with how she took the time to ask about my skin, what was going on, what products I used and what we could do to make it better. It was a really great experience. Next, I had a massage with Nicole. just like Charity, she took a few minutes to ask me questions about my lifestyle, if I had any aches or tightness and if there were any areas that she could concentrate on. I had heard about this place from a very dear friend and decided to give it a try. I made an appointment with Thompson (Tommy) one of the stylists who was the "guru" of highlights, newest techniques for glossy, healthy hair, and a consummate professional. From the moment I walked in, the hospitality was outstanding. The entire staff was amazing. The salon looked spotless and hip! Joanne asked to take my coat, offered me a hot beverage, and made sure I was comfortable until Tommy was available. Since I tried to play "amateur stylist" at home, there needed to be some touchups. Tommy was so calm, upbeat, and positive, offering me suggestions, and what I was looking for. The consultation was amazing. I felt excited for the new makeover! What I loved about this salon, is that they are personable, and very professional. When you leave, they give you an index card, of what products they used, any future follow up information and free samples! Had so much fun, that I did not want to leave! I walked out of there feeling pampered, my hair came out baby blonde stunning..have gotten 6 compliments on it already from complete strangers...the staff is amazing. I highly recommend Katana for facials, waxing, and massage! I love Lisa and Charity. I am here almost every other week for either a facial or peel... and have finally found something that works for my skin. The people who work there really care and want to help. Lisa even calls me sometimes to see how my skin is doing after I get a peel or facial. They stand by all the products.... if you don't like a product you bought you can return it within 60 days. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. By which I mean I loved the hairstyle Tommy gave me! I explained the look I was going for (Emma Watson's prior to her cutting it off) and he delivered perfectly. I looked like a million bucks and it lasted all day without once losing volume. Everyone here is awesome. I used to go into Boston to get my hair cut and colored but after I started having kids, I didn't have the time. I found Kathy who can cut and color my hair and get it right every time. If I want a little adjustment, no problem, she has gets my vision and executes. I see Megan for blowouts and color touch ups. My son sees Tommy for his cuts. Tommy, Megan, Lauren and Riane have all done blowouts for me, and updos and/or fun semi-permanent colors for my girls. Alana and Charity do great waxing and make up. Not only does his medical background give him much more insight into diagnosing muscular problems, he truly cares about identifying the root of your pain/problems.
