Great location overlooking the water, beautiful venue inside of a hotel, good service, and beautiful plating, but the food did not meet my expectations, especially for the price and chef's James Beard accolades and Tokyo training. It was a mixed bag that I think tried too much with great ingredients. We sat in one of the few seating options around the bar to take advantage of some cocktails from the Happy Hour menu and we were so happy we did this because we couldn't imagine paying full price for the drinks we had. We tried the Spring Spirit which is gin and mango with cucumber and mint. It was very mango forward, like a lot of mango nectar, and was just OK -- an easy drink more in the juice side. The Sakura Sippin was hardly drinkable it was so floral heavy we sipped it until the end of our dinner service. We noticed the table next to us sent theirs back so, it wasn't just us. Neither of these drinks were well-balanced so we didn't dare try another. Sushi Moriawase was the best thing we ate here. Simple nigiri's and a maki roll with a little bit of shiso leaf which I appreciated for an added layer of flavor. Rice was perfect, fish quality great, and loved the chopped ginger. Madai Usuzukuri, basically a a super thin carpaccio with ponzu was classically delicious, delicate, and refreshing. This is a winner. The crudo of hamachi was ok. Each bite was accompanied by an artichoke chip and a clove of black garlic, some sea salt, and micro greens finished with citrus. I liked the idea of pairing with the chip for a crunchy texture but felt like it wasn't adding to the overall flavor profile which fell short. Hamachi is one of my favorites and it got lost here. The beautifully plated carpaccio of Hokkaido scallops really fell short. The scallops themselves were great but it was paired with creamy mustard sauce and vinaigrette that really overshadowed the delicate sweetness of the scallops, maybe more vinaigrette and less Dijon (I think that's the type of mustard I was tasting). The layer of shaved hearts of palm was nice for texture. The toro tartare was hardly edible for me. It sat in what tasted like soy sauce and wasabi mixed together and nothing else. It was so salty we tried just eating from the top. It really overpowered everything and just destroyed what should've been a luscious tuna. For dessert, we tried the chocolate mousse and pistachio ice cream. It was more of a chocolate and black cherry mousse log slice, enrobed in a dark chocolate ganache and paired with a crispy sesame tuile. This was pretty good but I wouldn't order it again for $18. read more

Stopped by last Tuesday, early evening. The decor is lovely and the outside seating is beautiful by the water. Unfortunately the bar was out of a specific liquor, so I couldn't order my cocktail from the menu, but a regular gin & tonic was fine. The hamachi crudo was excellent, would definitely recommend. The wagyu beef gyoza were a miss, I wouldn't get those again. Oddly enough the meat tasted a big gamey. The fried rice with chicken was surprisingly really good, I would normally not order a dish like that here but it was probably the best I've had. We ordered a lot of dishes and honestly, everything was outstanding. One of my favorites was the tuna on crispy rice - perfectly balanced, melt-in-your-mouth tuna with just the right crunch. We also ordered a daily special roll featuring wagyu and caviar, and it was absolutely worth every penny. Rich, indulgent, and beautifully presented. Beyond the sushi, we tried a variety of small plates and starters, and each one was thoughtfully prepared and packed with flavor. You can really tell there's a lot of attention to detail here, from plating to execution. The service deserves a shout-out as well. Our server was fantastic - friendly, attentive, and always made sure our drinks were full without being intrusive. The restaurant itself is very pretty with a moody, upscale vibe. It's a bit dark for photos, but that just adds to the atmosphere and makes it a great spot for a date night or special dinner. We'll definitely be back. I've been here a few times for dinners and hosted group dinners/events. This is the only place in Boca for truly great sushi. The open kitchen is fun to watch if you're inside, the outdoor patio is on the intracoastal so a pretty view and there is also a private room for special events. The gnocchi was surprisingly good. The manager Jill is very accommodating to work with if you're planning a special dinner or group event. Beware it's parking at the Waterstone Hotel and the valet asks $10 cash up front. read more

My husband and I came for date night on a Friday. We sat outside. Our server was wonderful. Overall we enjoyed our food but it did feel overpriced. We started with drinks. My husband received the wrong drink. We received an apology and got the right drink. We were told that food comes out as it's ready rather than in a certain order. The idea being you eat it fresh rather than having it sit under a lamp to keep warm. The first food to come out were the crispy Brussels sprouts. They were good but not life changing. Second was the short rib fried rice. 10/10. Would return just for that. Third out was my hamachi sushi roll. It was very fresh and light but again not life changing. I felt that the sushi menu could have been more creative. Lad out wad the miso cod. This was excellent. Like butter. Perfect texture and melt in your mouth taste. I'm not a sushi fan. There, I said it. After going to Kasumi, I'm still not. I paid to park in the private lot of the Boca hotel where this is located, which set the tone. The ambiance was nice but not overly so, and perhaps a bit chaotic. Our waiter seemed intent on taking our plates and getting us out the door as quickly as possible, despite it being a moderately slow night. My $39 broiled cod was just ok, but so small I couldn't wait to get home to eat again. My companion had some sort of California roll covered in caviar, which she claimed she liked. Dinner for two including two entrees and one glass of wine was $150 all in. read more

We're always hoping better sushi places will open in the area so we're intrigued to see Kasumi -- and overall definitely came away feeling like this is some of the best sushi we've had in the Boca/Delray area yet. Above all the quality of fish in both nigiri and hand rolls was very high -- definitely the highlight and would come back for that alone. But we really enjoyed the chicken tatsu age -- accurately described by our waitress as surprisingly light and not over breaded at all -- as well as the short rib fried rice, really well prepared and delicious. The atmosphere right on the water is really lovely and there's a ton of seating -- while we did make a reservation for dinner on a Friday night, it didn't seem necessary. Overall, just wish prices were sliiiiightly more down to earth -- understand that good fish is not cheap but like so many places in the area still seems a bit overpriced. Absolutely gorgeous restaurant inside the Waterstone Resort. Friendly service and one of the best Japanese spots. Unfortunately, I am quite limited as I'm allergic to shellfish, but the spicy tuna roll is outstanding - the tuna is soft as butter, and even the usually bland avocado roll at most places, shines here with tempura flakes and a lemon sauce. My Mom loved her eel roll, and we shared the wagyu gyoza ( a must get). For dessert, the cheesecake is excellent. read more

The only problem I had when it was time to pay the bill and leave I signed the check put my room number down got up to leave and they told me I could not leave. I said are you kidding me? They said no we have to check you out to make sure you're staying in the hotel they made me sit and wait until one waiter had to go talk to another waiter until I got the thumbs up that I can walk out of the restaurant never in my life. The design of Kasumi was absolutely beautiful, definitely an aesthetic where everyone would want to take photos in. My friend and I had the edamame and Wagyu beef gyoza to start, the gyoza was amazing!! I got the tres amigos which is apparently a huge hit, I would say get it if you love the taste of fresh seafood. If you want something flavorful, get something else. The spicy tuna aburi was very flavorful but spicy ofc due to the name. Kasumi was initially disappointing but the more I go the more I like it and as it's near my house I go often. The restaurant is well run and the staff is consistently excellent and I'm seeing some of the same faces I've seen since Kasumi opened. Jeffrey, a waiter is a great asset to Kasumi and his co-workers also enhance the dining experience. The sushi is good and we order rolls or nigiri but we augment it with other menu selections and we prefer the chicken items over the beef selections. The other restaurant in The Waterstone Hotel seems to rely solely on its intracoastal location for business with food being incidental but Kasumi is more focused on food than location or views and it's worth a visit. read more

We had heard so many great things about this place and were really excited to come here to celebrate a birthday, but unfortunately our experience was extremely disappointing. After being seated, we waited about 40 minutes and still hadn't even been able to order appetizers. We placed an order for two drinks, and one of them came out incorrect. When we initially ordered the drinks, we specifically asked if we could also put in appetizers at that time, and our server told us he would be right back--but he never returned. There was no follow-up, no check-in, and no sense of urgency despite how long we had been waiting. What should have been a special and enjoyable celebration turned into a frustrating experience. The lack of service and attention was honestly shocking, especially given the reputation of this place. After waiting so long with no progress, we ultimately decided to leave without even eating. We are incredibly disappointed and will not be returning. Sadly, we also won't be recommending this restaurant to others, which is unfortunate because we came in with such high expectations. read more

Ah, Kasumi; where the dining experience begins not with food, but with valet-induced stress. Spoiler alert: it failed and created chaos. Picture this: a 30-minute wait in a valet line that could best be described as vehicular Jenga. Cars were double-parked everywhere... blocking the entrance, the exit, and probably someone's will to live. When I finally got to the front of the line, ready to hand over my keys and my dwindling patience, I was told, "Sorry, no more room." Escape wasn't any easier. There's no way out when every available inch of space is filled with other equally bewildered drivers who've realized too late they've entered the valet Bermuda Triangle. Oh, and the best part is that you should even bother trying to call the restaurant to explain why you're late or that their valet just turned you away as they don't pick up. Maybe they were busy answering other complaints? Or maybe their phones are double-parked, too. Who knows? Needless to say, I never made it inside. Went somewhere else instead, where the parking situation didn't resemble the apocalypse. Kasumi might have great food, but I'll never know. Swear, the parking situation can't be safe! read more

One of the worst dining experiences I've had. We found a massive hair wrapped around the chicken bone absolutely disgusting. Before that, the lychee martini tasted rotten, and even the remake was undrinkable. The open kitchen showed loose hair, uncovered beards, and no clear hygiene practices.
