Celebrated my birthday at AlleyCat for dinner on Saturday night. There were only a few tables occupied when we arrived at 6:20 but the restaurant was super loud and packed when we left. Maybe it's quieter outside but those tables are right next to the street. We had to yell to hear each other. Our server Sebastian was so pushy and constantly upselling us. As soon as we sat down, he asked whether we wanted still or sparkling water, but that question should always have 3 options: still, sparkling, or tap? He then recommended the signature omakase, the most expensive thing on the menu. When he came back to take our order, he made a big pitch of today's rib special. When my husband ordered the 8-piece nigiri, he pushed us to upgrade to the 12-piece option. As we were eating, he asked us what else we wanted to order. We ordered $130 of food for 2 people...seriously? We hadn't even finished yet to gauge if we were still hungry. I know that tips are a percentage of the bill, but you would've thought this kid was getting a commission on top of his tip or something. It rubbed us the wrong way. The tuna crispy rice was $5 per piece and the rice was weirdly chewy. Wouldn't order it again. The nigiri were the highlight of the meal. Each piece felt balanced and the sushi rice was good. We ordered 3 rolls: toro toro, scallop, and yellowtail. All were forgettable and expensive for what they were. The yellowtail roll was bland, which is probably why there's a chili ponzu sauce to go with it because otherwise all you can taste is pear, which isn't a flavor I'm looking for in sushi. We ended our meal with scallop tacos, which were good but microscopic and pricey ($17 for 2 tacos). Each one is a bite and a half. It took a while to flag down Sebastian for the bill, so we were stuck in the din of the restaurant for longer than we liked. If the restaurant's filling up, wouldn't you want to turn our table and seat new guests? My husband made a note on the res that it was my birthday, but it was ignored. The first time I came here was about 5 years ago for dinner with my sister and mom, to celebrate a birthday. I remember I loved it back then but somehow have not found my way back until a few days ago, when some girlfriends noticed they have happy hour. I'm happy to say AlleyCat is just as good now as when I first went years ago! I was delighted by their happy hour menu; they have $7 bites and drinks. They offer a mix of classic and unique menu options, such as lychee martini, spritzes, ramen, nigiri, and sushi rolls. I tried a few options but really loved the yuzu spritz the most. I had the spicy tuna roll, which was simple but delicious! I forgot to take a picture until I was halfway done. The establishment is clean and lovely, elegant and simple. Wish I could give this place at least a 4 but the service was so trash. Went on a Saturday at like 8 and it wasn't even full so I don't know why it was so bad. We sat quickly and ordered apps fast but took forever to get our main sushi orders taken. We had 3 different people take our orders and no one was on the same page. The sushi came pretty fast but it was mid. Would not get again. The seaweed in it tasted old and mushy. The apps came wayyyy after the sushi but at least they were worth it. I've been wanting to come to AlleyCat for quite some time now and mostly because of their handrolls. Not a lot of Japanese restaurants around our area offer that. I came in on a Tuesday night and to my surprise they discontinued it. I had just peeped the menu online before making the drive and it's still posted there sigh. Well I went ahead and tried something else. The snow crab tacos and the salmon nigiri tasting. My partner had the wagyu dumplings and the surf and turf roll. The snow crab tacos were stuffed with meat which was great - filling. Unfortunately, it was dry and didn't have sauce / taste. As for the salmon nigiri tasting - I received 4 pieces. I had to ask the server what was what because it was brought to me with no description. After he explained each, he realized two were the same or one was just plain. He went back to the sushi chef who made it and offered to spruce it up for me. I asked for ikura to go on top and they granted my wish. The wagyu dumplings were thick and only ok to me. AlleyCat Izakaya is loud, lively, and definitely trying to be a good time... but if you're coming here expecting a top-tier sushi experience, you might walk out a little confused (and mildly disappointed). Let's start with what worked. The spicy tuna crispy rice was the best thing on the table! Crunchy, spicy, flavorful... basically a one-bite wonder. The wasabi Caesar salad? Weirdly incredible. Creamy, bold, a little sharp. Who knew Caesar dressing needed wasabi? The Yaki beef noodles were solid too; hearty and flavorful with a comforting depth. But the sushi rolls? Just okay. Nothing memorable. For a place that reads "Japanese" in concept, it leans way more toward izakaya-style dishes than actual standout sushi. And maybe that's the point. The issue is when you hear this is from the same chef behind Sunset Sushi and Sushi by Bou, you expect more. This didn't hit the same way. As the kids say it... it was mid. The vibe is fun if you like a buzzy room with a lot going on. Indoors is loud and high-energy. Outdoors is calmer and good for conversation. The staff was great, and the parking in the back is a nice plus. But all in, it's a 3-star experience. Not bad, but not somewhere I'd rush back to. Went here for my birthday and this was an epic culinary experience!! The food can be described as Asian fusion, there is sushi too but wouldn't describe or limit this restaurant as a sushi spot. We ordered the warm blue crab sushi roll with brown butter which was unbelievable!! And honestly we wished we ordered two of them it was that good! We also ordered the specials: lamb ribs with eggplant and mushrooms, scallops with truffle mash potatoes! Heaven is what each of these specials were!! The flavor balance was incredible and we were beyond amazed!! The service was perfect and our waiter was so friendly and helpful with menu recs! t's been a little over a year since the owners closed, rebel house and turned it into alleycat. What a great evolution! The original goal was to keep rebel houses energy and merge it with Alley Cats Izakaya fare. The inside is hip and chic, and just a really nice place to hang out with friends have a drink or two and a nice meal. Izakayas are Japanese restaurants that serve tasty food and a wide range of drinks. Alley Cat does a great job here and the service was excellent. Tuna Crispy Rice - A nice pan fried crispy rice topped with spicy tuna and seasoned with a little mayo and jalapeño. Lobster Dynamite Tacos - Two small tacos to an order just let me say you can't eat just too. Miso Eggplant - this glazed eggplant had a delicious combination of flavors. Spicy Tuna Rock Shrimp - This was actually the only dish that we ordered that I wasn't crazy about. The spicy tuna roll was very good, but it was topped with fried rock shrimp and it just wasn't my favorite. I really love the whole concept. There are specials during the week too like taco Tuesdays, where they have drink specials and taco specials all evening and on Thursdays, there's a drink and food special also. Their previous concept, Rebel House, was easily my favorite restaurant in boca. When they switched over to Alleycat I was bummed but excited to try this new concept from the same chef/owners. I've been a handful of times and my most recent visit was saturday for happy hour. They have happy hour daily and I love finding spots that offer weekend happy hour. The happy hour is from 4-6. We got there a little before 5. The restaurant was completely empty(they just opened at 4). The hostess asked if we had a reservation we told her no. And she started saying "oh wow we have so many reservations coming in" I said we would sit at the bar. We actually laughed all night about this because there was not a single person there inside or outside when she said this. And when we left a little after 6 there were 15 tables still open. (Yes I counted) I love sitting at the bar anyway especially at a place that has great cocktails. On the HH menu I had their spicy margarita, Moscow mule, and lychee martini. Each drink was 8. Spicy margarita was for sure my favorite but all were really delicious. Like rebel house the best way to dine here is to order a bunch of stuff to share. They have a lot of small plates and all are really delicious on their regular menu as well. Their prices can be a bit steep also. They changed their HH menu from my last visit so we tried some new stuff. Whipped tofu feta dip with chili crunch and Nan- tasty, wish we had a couple more nan pieces but it was nice KFC ( Korean friend chicken) wings- really crispy and so good. Tempura sweet potato fries with chili garlic aoili- I love sweet potato fries and I felt like tempura battering them hid their flavor. This was a miss. Hot pastrami sando- holy hell this was good. I have to say I don't even like pastrami, not even a little bit, and this was one of the best bites I've had in a long time. The pastrami is house made and really flavorful. A must order. Overall alleycat is a great spot. It's pricy so definitely a HH or date night spot. I do miss the overall vibe and ambiance of rebel house as it was just so different from everywhere else in Boca but alleycat is still cranking out the same amazing quality of food. read more

Things I liked and would rate a 4/5 were the tuna pizza and the spicy tuna with crispy shrimp. Will not return. Huge ripoff. The table was tiny, so we started with a salad and dumplings- they were ok. The salad was heavily dressed if you like it like that- the dumplings were pretty standard. Why would you not print a temporary card so people can make a good choice? The outside sconce lights on the walls are hideous and the light brightness and color kill the ambience if you are dining on the front terrace. I've been to AlleyCat twice now, and I feel like I got a good overall idea of where I stand on this place. There's things I really enjoyed about this restaurant, and there's things that I think could bring this place up to a 5 stars for me with a bit of tweaking. Some of the more interesting items on their menu are absolute standouts for me, for one I happen to really like their sushi tacos, especially the king crab one. I normally am not a crab fan, but not only was there a substantial amount of meat on the taco, but the taste was great and it felt very fresh. I also really enjoyed the avocado puree it was paired with. I have also had their hot rock wagyu both times I've been here, and while it can be a bit pricey for not many pieces of wagyu, it was still really tasty and I liked the teriyaki inspired sauce that it was paired with. I do also remember their tuna crispy rice and the yellowtail jalapeno being standout dishes as well for me. The areas in which AlleyCat fall flat are in two different categories, one of them kind of being an important cornerstone for the cuisine it represents: the sushi and the cocktails. When I say they fall flat, they aren't even necessarily bad by any means. However, I have had both better sushi and better drinks elsewhere for a better price point that I happen to remember more. I can understand that the idea behind this restaurant is to be more aligned with an Izakaya style of cuisine, but I do expect that whenever there is sushi present on the menu that it does stand out considering how easy it is to find sushi nowadays. That being said, the sushi I have had here was very good. I would just keep in mind that the actual sushi itself you could probably find better elsewhere. The other dishes they offer are really what you would come here for. The drinks themselves are kind of a mixed bag, as the concept behind some of the drinks I think is rather genius, but I think they do need to be balanced a bit more for my liking. I remember one drink I had tried that contained jasmine rice in the mix, and while the flavors weren't bad it did feel very heavy on the alcohol for me. I've read a few reviews about the ambiance being very loud and that it does have a bit more of a "party" atmosphere, but on both occasions I would argue that that isn't the case. With the last time I was there especially, I think we were the only table that were sat aside from one couple. I did happen to go on a weeknight I believe, so my opinion could very well change if I showed up on a weekend instead. The service I remember being great. They kept on top of our table and always made sure we had everything we needed and explained some of the menu items to us if we had any questions. All in all, while I would definitely come back here for some of their izakaya inspired dishes, I don't think I can in good conscience recommend this place for sushi. If you had one plate of sushi and the rest of the dishes were their izakaya style offerings, then you'd be best off. read more

I had really high expectations for Alleycat since the menu looked really tasty and the vibe of the restaurant looked fun, but it really felt short of wowing me. We started out with Hamachi which was decent, but nothing spectacular. Next we tried the king crab tacos, Brussels sprouts, pastrami sando and the sunset roll. Everything was semi decent, but drenched in sauce/not worth the hefty price tag. The biggest issue we encountered had to be the king crab tacos. They literally tasted like canned seafood and neither one of us could stomach them so we sent the order back. Our server (Tim) was super cool about it and took the dish back to the manager. My friend facing the kitchen then witnessed the manager literally take a bite from one of the tacos on our plate we sent back. After that, he came out to point out the fact the their crab was indeed fresh and we were basically wrong. That blew my mind lol. All I can say is: Tim was nice - Not coming back. read more

Came here twice, I must say if you're going to put those type of prices the food has to be up to par. Considering this is the same guy who owns sushi by bou the sushi here is actually the worst food on the menu. I tried a few rolls, omakase and crispy rice. Quality was not great. The best thing on this menu is the pastrami Sando, sweet and savory fatty meat. It's deff a nice twist to the dish! The lamb yaki noodles second best dish. I dislike that they turn the space into a bar at night making it loud and uncomfortable with people standing around you while you eat, we had to be asked to sit outside.
