I have two children ages 11 and 13 and they go to Dr. Preston as well. The waiting room is comfortable with a coffee/tea maker and a case with jewelry to purchase (Dr. Preston makes all the jewelry herself!). The rest of the office is spaced out and easy to maneuver as well as the dental chairs are very comfy. The staff and Dr. Preston are all so friendly (Joy is pure joy!), accommodating and explain your dental situation very well. My son had to have a tooth extracted and Dr. Preston referred him to the pediatric dentist a couple miles away. I appreciated that she knew he would be better off with them for that procedure versus her. It's also very convenient for us as we live down the street and they have flexible hours. I wish I had not waited so long to write this…read morereview but I get upset every time I go to my great new dentist and all my problems are from the work this lady has done to my teeth! I had to have a bridge put in by her and after a year it kept falling out they suggested I just fix a dent it! Had a root canal don't and the tooth broke a month later. This lady will suck you dry all she cares about is money. She should be turned in to the dental board. The dental hygienist are another nightmare. I would normally come in for cleanings on my lunch break or before work and multiple times I was sprayed in the face with water and one lady would rest her hand on my eye and I would have smeared makeup not to mention it's not very comfortable. Also they love to try to sell you on every gadget they offer and mouth wash etc. so unprofessional and uncomfortable. The last straw for me was a day I had a cleaning and check up and they magically had a root canal specialist in the office and when it was time for my exam I had a tooth that needed a filling and that's all I had remaining on my insurance to do. She knew this and started drilling and what do you know I needed a root canal she said!!! So she hands me off to this young root canal specialist and he goes to numb the area and stabs the Novocain needle right in my bottom lip!! He quickly panicked pulling it out getting Novocain in my freaking eye! I was traumatized. I was in tears when it came time to leave and was at the front desk paying my $1300 dollar bill because I was out of insurance until a few months when the new year started and the girl taking my money felt so bad she was apologizing. I never went back. This doctor was the worst mistake I have ever made.

The Hygenist was good. The staff is kind and they all work very hard to make it as comfortable as possible. Plus they have designated parking in front.

She's so down to earth and just a talented person. You can find a binder in the waiting room full of pictures of her amazing work (she's a cosmetic dentist). Of all my 32 years of life, no other dentist pointed out that my teeth were wearing out due to teeth grinding while sleeping. She caught that problem and suggested a night guard. Thanks to her, I was able to do something and prevent further damage. Her office is clean and cozy, with great decor, magazines, free wifi and nice refreshments in the waiting room. You'll even find the restroom pleasant. Her staff is so nice, professional and efficient. The receptionist is always welcoming and has great knowledge of the practices and procedures of the office and always has been able to answer all of my questions in regards to fees and insurance. The hygienist always gives me feedback about my teeth and she's always thorough at cleaning. I haven't met one person I didn't like. I feel like they all care. Another plus is sometimes, when possible, Dr. Lubbers will adjust the prices of some procedures according to the work load to save you a couple of bucks. I'm a big baby when it comes to dental work and he is gentle, reassuring and explains all procedures fully. He has installed a crown for one son and veneers for another son. All of the crowns and veneers look great and the color matching is perfect. I love my hygienist, Kaitlyn. She is gentle when cleaning my teeth. Kaitlyn always puts me at ease and she is very friendly. Dr. Funke's staff is friendly, welcoming and helpful.

He was able to identify the root (pun intended) cause of my tooth pain. Several dentists had told me my gums were receding, but it was actually my tooth rotated on its axis!! He saved me a lot of money, and from a painful procedure! He goes above and beyond for his patients. I send all of my friends to him! However, I explained my situation to the front staff (which are wonderful by the way, both of the ladies have smiles that light up the whole room), they relayed the message to Dr. Van Patten and he immediately got me in. Jaime, my hygienist was wonderful, the fact that I remember her name just goes to show how great she was. I actually felt that I having an honest conversation with her, you know, not the kind of conversations where all you can do is "uhhh huhh" or nod and shake your head, but not too fast because your mouth is wide open with sharp tools. She took the time to explain to me everything she was doing and paused often to talk and to make sure I was doing okay. Anyways, back to the doc. As soon as Dr. Van Patten came in, we had a nice conversation (unrelated about teeth), I told him that I was taking a class in school that taught me the anatomy of the mouth and teeth, so of course he shows me xrays of my own teeth and quizzes me on the anatomy of my tooth..... got like an 80% on that quiz :) At the end of my check, he asked me about my future goals, plans, etc, and wished me the best on my travels. He walked me up to the front desk, gave me a sample of toothpaste, and a firm hand shake. I now recently moved to another state, but I plan to continue my dental appointments with Dr. Van Patten whenever I return for winter and summer breaks. I wish I could give this office more than just 5 stars, cause they really are something special. However, as my routine dental exam went on, I become more and more uncomfortable with the things Dr. Tjoa was saying to me: he described my teeth as "sexy" and "voluptuous," told me "you're basically genetically perfect, as far as your mouth anatomy goes," said odd things about my husband "he must not stress you out much, because it doesn't look like you grind your teeth," and asked me if I fell in love with my husband's sexy foreign accent, and finally, weirdest of all, when looking under my tongue, said, "you're a bit tongue-tied, if you want to be a better kisser, I could cut that little membrane for you." Notably, he didn't make of these sorts of comments to my husband. I was uncomfortable enough that, had I not been laying down with a tray of tools over my chest, I might have left. He said I had to have my teeth cleaned before any exam- I have never heard that from any dentist. His assistant did take way more x-rays than necessary so I'm sure he will over bill my insurance for that. On my next appt. at 9a.m NO ONE was there. The office was closed - no note on the door - nothing. The next day the office girl said "we sent an email to all patients" NOT ME. Another man showed up at 9 also so I'm not the only who did not get that message. My next appt I had to sign a form saying that I would pay for any shortage that my insurance company did not pay. AND I was overcharged on my first appt and when I asked for a refund I was told they don't refund to credit cards even tho that was how I paid. So I asked for a check- she said the Dr. only writes checks once a month. Well it's been 2 months and I'm still waiting. I will NEVER go back there.
