Carson Dental Designs is super conveniently located on the west side of Carson just across the street from my eye doctor. I needed to find a new dentist as my old one of 20 years does not take my new insurance plan. This place takes all sorts of dental insurance and will show you a cost spreadsheet of the real costs so there's no surprises. The staff here is super accommodating and knows their stuff. The dentist Dr. Graber was friendly and let me know exactly what was gonna happen. I came in for an initial exam as a new patient. X-rays were done digitally and the resolution was so clear on the screen! They even have a super mini camera that takes a vid of your teeth close up so the doctor and YOU can see what's going on. He explained and showed me everything. I needed a new crown and a filling replaced. I was shown in detail on the screen what it looked like exactly and shown the cracks even on the old filling, so I knew it was really there. The filling was painless to replace and the crown was gonna be made right there in the office on this high tech digital machining device. No waiting a few weeks for a dental lab to make the crown and then come back again to have it installed. Ok, there's a $75 charge to do it the same day in the office, but that's well worth it! The crown went in easy, the machine took maybe 45 min to make it. I watched the doctor program the machine on the screen with a digital image of my teeth. My old dentist wasn't THIS high tech! I walked out with a new crown and filling and my insurance covered it all, except $75 to use that fancy crown making machine. Now I have cleanings scheduled here too. I went in to Dr. West for an exam. He spent the first 15 min. telling me how my insurance company is slow in paying and doesn't pay well. He NEVER looked in my mouth at all. He said I had to have my teeth cleaned before any exam- I have never heard that from any dentist. His assistant did take way more x-rays than necessary so I'm sure he will over bill my insurance for that. On my next appt. at 9a.m NO ONE was there. The office was closed - no note on the door - nothing. The next day the office girl said "we sent an email to all patients" NOT ME. Another man showed up at 9 also so I'm not the only who did not get that message. My next appt I had to sign a form saying that I would pay for any shortage that my insurance company did not pay. AND I was overcharged on my first appt and when I asked for a refund I was told they don't refund to credit cards even tho that was how I paid. So I asked for a check- she said the Dr. only writes checks once a month. Well it's been 2 months and I'm still waiting. I will NEVER go back there. read more

Dr.West and his crew took such good care of me. I had some horrible teeth implants done by another care facility they would fall out often and were so long and uncomfortable. Went to this dentist office to establish care since my last dentist will no longer take my insurance. Was happy with the care that hygienist CJ did cleaning my teeth and recommending things I need to be doing. My bite has been off since January, mentioned this to her and why I felt it was due to a high spot on a tooth that the other dentist worked on in january. She said that Dr West could look at it and he would probably be able to shave the little tiny bit off to make my bite better. He came in, asked how I knew my bite was off since january. I told him because lower teeth are now right behind my upper teeth which they've never been there in the 65 years I have had teeth.there looked after putting in the little thing makes marks on your teeth have me bite and grind around said everything looked fine and my teeth bite my bite was better because," it's where it should be now." I had to book an appointment several months out which he canceled only days before. Had I known how unprofessional, flighty and disorganized he was I would have booked a dentist closer to home. Unfortunately, we trusted Dr West to do my wife's wisdom teeth extractions. The entire time he was working, he was wearing headphones on a conference call... When the work was done, he prescribed her some mouthwash and failed to go over after care instructions, and we also had to call the office several times for them to place the order to the pharmacy. In the post surgery check up, with the technician, my wife brought up concerns of inflammation and something "not feeling right". After being convinced to go get Dr West, He said "it will be just fine" after he took a very quick look in her mouth. She insisted that something wasn't right, and he prescribed her some antibiotics and told her to only take them "if she needs them" We got a second opinion, and turns out Dr West's patient negligence left a part of the tooth and bone behind causing my wife to go through another surgery, costing us several hundreds of dollars, and another recovery period. EDIT: received a call from one of Dr Wests assistants and as she spoke on behalf of Dr West, there was a flurry of excuses hurled about how busy he is and how many patients he has among many other excuses. Unfortunately this doesn't excuse his neglect of patients, especially when he won't even conduct basic imaging that would take less than 3 minutes like our new Dr did. Dr West doesn't care about his patients, he just took our hard earned money and laughed his way to the bank. read more

I don't have any issue with the work. My issue is with the payment part of the visit. While there to get three crowns redone, I was presented with a bill for just under 4000 dollars. I was told that insurance would only pay 1500 dollars. I was charged 2250 on my credit card and after a few weeks, I received a statement from my insurance company that showed they had only paid 1251 dollars. The amount left owning that I was responsible for should have been 316 dollars. A week later, I received a new statement from Carson Dental that showed an additional two procedures had been added to the original invoice, with a cost of 250 each, for an additional amount of 500 added to my statement. I wrote an email, along with copies of my original invoice from the date of service and asked for an explanation. Instead of replying, Carson Dental waited an additional month, sent me a new statement, showing extra charges for other procedures (that again, were not on the original invoice) with an added payment of just over 23 dollars having been paid by insurance. This brought my total owed to 793 dollars. Rather than fight this continuing battle against people who are not only poorly equipped to handle accounting, but also who lack communication skills, I paid the bill. However, I will not return (even if the work is good), since proper billing and communication skills are part of a well-run business enterprise. If you pay cash, go for it. They can't charge you more later. If you have insurance...be mindful that they don't seem to know what they are doing when it comes to billing. read more

Wow! I must say I am truly impressed with this place. I have had a bad history of terrible experiences at dentists. The whole staff was very nice. From the girls at the front reception, to the very sweet gal who cleaned my teeth to the Dr. who examined my teeth. Everyone was very informative and helpful. They have some of the best rates I have ever seen for people who do not have insurance too. I am happy to finally found a dentist I can trust. I will be back in 6 months for my cleaning! Upon first visit for my daughter for x-rays and exam Dr West appeared competent and rather nice. Going back to get her wisdom teeth removed was another story. First they would not accept my daughters insurance and closed her on the idea that if she wanted proper care most dentists would not accept her insurance. They offered her a payment plan of $50./ month no interest to cover the procedure.Being young and independent she wanted to deal with paying herself, establishing credit and not putting it on dear old Dad. Shortly after arriving with her friend, I received a call from the office manger stating that she does not qualify for there payment plan and if they were going to proceed I would need to pay up front with my credit card, and so the night mare began. With x-rays one would think a competent Dentist would know if they were capable of performing a procedure. I specifically asked the office manager if the Dr. was capable of and was aware that this was "Oral Surgery" not just an extraction before providing my CC info, the office manger clearly stated that that Dr. West does this " all the time'' Despite the apparent attempt to put my daughter in a state of no feeling or pain, she felt every probe, slicing and digging to then find out the Dr. was unable to perform the procedure, using the excuse that my daughter could not " open her mouth wide enough". How inept can a Doctor be, not to be aware of this with full x-rays and a patient's apparently small mouth in front of them, before he proceeds. My Credit Card is supposedly being refunded, although it has not posted yet and my daughter is off to another Dentist and Oral Surgeon after her painful and traumatizing experience at Carson Dental Design. read more

After reading reviews I decided to give Carson Dental Designs a try and I am so very glad I did! Finally the results and experience I was hoping for. I used a Groupon to get my teeth cleaned & x-rayed here. The staff were so polite & the hygienist who worked on me did a SUPER job! Unfortunately, 4 surface cavities were found in my x-rays :0( But, Dr. West had them all filled & I was ready to go in half an hour. Never experienced any pain, either! I would highly recommend Dr. West. The crown popped off an implant post that I had done a couple years ago. I needed a new dentist and a friend recommended Dr. West. I called and they fit me right in. Dr. West's team were very compassionate and I even got to relax and watch a movie while they fixed me right up. Visiting Carson City for a month. Needed a molar extraction. Found them through online reviews and they were able to fit me in within a week. Dr.West, Chelsea, and all of the staff were perfectly professional, attentive, and efficient, while still treating me with true compassion. They answered every question I had, in language suited to my level of understanding, clearly explaining everything from my insurance coverage to the procedure, aftercare, and what to expect for discomfort during and after. Dr. West also sent me off with copies of the before-and-after x-ray images and a technical report for my regular dentist. I could not have been more pleased with the way I was treated, and I recommend them for dental care. I would send my own kids here, without reservation. In general everybody was nice except for one of the nurses, I am not even sure if she is a nurse. When the other nurse was checking my teeth/gums the lady stood their talking bad about me because I did not want to take an appointment that she was forcing me to take. I could hear her clearly talking bad about me. Maybe she thinks I am deaf, it was very unprofessional and low class of her to do that. I might recommend the place but becareful if you do not do what the nurse lady says there's a change she will stand next to you and talk garbage. I went here a while ago for the first time to get my teeth cleaned because I needed a dental office that was open on a Friday. The staff and the dentist I saw were very friendly, however, since it was my first time there they wanted to do x-rays, which I did not have a problem with at first. The young lady who took the x-rays obviously did not have very much experience because it look her almost an hour to take a couple picture of my teeth. Two other ladies had to come in to assist. By the end my gums were painful and bleeding. I am not usually the type of person to ever give bad reviews no matter what my feelings are, but this was the worst experience I've had at a dental office ever.
