Our furniture was wrapped in moving blankets before it left the house to go out to the truck. They had more blankets on the truck to pad everything for the trip. They were on time and they had tools to help take apart things that needed taking apart. The truck had a hydraulic lift on the back. We have one more move, and we will call Karson's again. As the old saying goes, "there are two guarantees in life -- death and taxes." Well, I think we can add moving to that list. And moving is the last thing you're likely to hear anyone say when talking about favorite things to do. AND, you can only ask your friends so many times to help you schlep your stuff from one place to the next and pay them with beer and pizza. That's where professional movers come in and if you're lucky enough to find the right movers, they are worth every penny and then some. Enter Karson's Movers. BACKGROUND: I coordinated moving my grandmother-in-law's belongings from PA to NC. Due to the distance, we needed movers who were willing and able to provide a FULL SERVICE move including packing, transporting, and unpacking. I obtained 3 quotes and Karson's came it the lowest. Now, with movers, the least expensive isn't always the best, but after talking with Karson on the phone, I just had a feeling that he was going to take good care of us. So, considering this and all the positive YELP reviews, I took the plunge and chose Karson's with fingers crossed and bated breath. COMMUNICATION: Karson made the entire process easy, from the initial contact and estimate to communicating all the relevant details of the move. The estimate was clear, and when I had a questions, he addressed them promptly and clearly. The estimate was "non-binding" which in moving parlance means "not fixed." That is, the final amount can change based on unplanned or unforeseen circumstances. This is where sketchy movers can stick you by tacking on exorbitant extra fees when you're most vulnerable...i.e. when YOUR stuff is in THEIR truck. Karson's estimate, however, was extremely close to what we ended up paying with no surprise or unexpected charges. Furthermore, while I don't make a regular practice of interstate moving, the price we paid seemed more than reasonable for the high quality of service we received. THE MOVE: (Disclaimer: Since I'm in NC, I was NOT in PA to meet with the movers when they arrived to pack grandma's belongings. I was only on the receiving end in NC. However, I'm told by the folks who met with them in PA that they were great to work with.) The truck arrived in NC well within the time window Karson estimated. Our situation was unique in that 3 stops were required to unload all the belongings. All items were packed in the truck in reverse order making it very easy and efficient to unload everything at the respective destinations. All this occurred without a hitch. THE PACKING: Karson's deployed two men to conduct the move who took great care in packing all of grandma's belongings. While mostly consisting of large furniture pieces, most of the furniture was antique, with some pieces well over 100 years old. Each piece was meticulously wrapped in blankets and plastic wrap. Any furniture that had to be disassembled was reassembled upon arrival by the movers. There were also many pieces of small and valuable china, and each piece -- this bears repeating -- EACH PIECE, no matter the size, was individually wrapped in packing paper and packed like a giant puzzle in boxes. Not one piece broke. All arrived in pristine condition. They may have gone a little overboard on the amount of paper used, but better this than broken china! CONCLUSION: Karson's did right by us. They instilled confidence that there are reputable and honest movers out there. I cannot recommend them highly enough for any kind of move you need, be it local or interstate. read more

I used Karson's Movers yesterday, and my experience was nothing short of exceptional. Not only did the truck and movers show up on time, they were extremely courteous, friendly, and worked incredibly hard. They all introduced themselves to me when they arrived which shows great professionalism on their part. I had some pretty big, heavy pieces that had to be brought up to my second floor along with a refrigerator and freezer that had to be put in my basement. This was in addition to everything else that had to be moved. They were all very accommodating and willing to go above and beyond for anything I needed. Karson has a great group of guys working for him, and I wouldn't hesitate for a second to use them again or recommend them to others. My fiance and I were moving about a quarter mile, but on a tight timeline. I found Karson on yelp and he came out immediately to give a quote. He explained everything in detail and answered all my questions. We booked Karson and on the day of the move the team showed up on time and all members were very polite. They loaded everything on the truck (including trash bags of towels, clothes, etc..) and wrapped all the furniture. They had multiple wardrobe boxes for us to use so that we didn't have to pull all cloths off the hanger. The unload went even faster than the load, and the total time we were billed for was right in the middle of the estimate given. I would definitely use Karson again. read more

Karson's made the moving process much less stressful than what I've experienced in the past. Longtime employee Melvin stopped by our home to take a look, so that the estimate would be accurate. We were lucky enough to have him leading the crew on moving day as well, although all three guys were great. They were were polite, professional, and did a great job getting a couch up a staircase that was a very tight fit. I had to move my mom from north jersey to central jersey. I required her belongings to be stored overnight. Although their price was the most expensive, their service was was exceptional. They were efficient, polite and he stayed within his quote. There were no hidden costs. Karson even drove to my mom's apt to survey how many men would be needed to move her belongings. They supplied a pet carrier for mom's cat. To sum, they were worth the money. The eliminated a tremendous amount of stress for me. read more

Poor service compared to other alternatives in the area. I had a large house move and while Karson's quote was higher than the other quotes I received, I wanted to support a small business and they had better dates than the other local provider I had used before - Paul's transfer. The "National Chain" movers and the other local provider had both been more professional in the quote process, but I had shrugged that off, which may have been a mistake. The team showed up 90 minutes late on move day. Now, I don't mind this, but (a) I was called 20 minutes after they were supposed to be at my house and (b) I was told that they would be there 15 minutes from the call, and not kept updated, so I was not able to leave my house during the extra hour they were not here. Disappointing customer service On the day the team did work hard, very hard in truth, but every house has a handful of items that are difficult. This was where the team failed. First off, all five guys would stop working and stare at the problem. No one would think, "hey, let's Google this to see if we can figure out how to take this apart using an online manual" (as an example). In the end the price tag was $700 over the estimate and $1,000 over the original estimate, and I have a treadmill, a desk and a freezer I need to take apart myself (found the "how to take apart"s online in about 3 minutes) and get down here in a Penske truck. I am loathe to give a bad review to a local small business but Karson needs to give his team better tools and train them better. They tried hard but they were a bit overmatched and poorly prepared, which drove up expenses and work for me. read more

I had the best experience with Melvin and his crew! These guys are super strong with kind hearts and good manners. They worked so efficiently and within the timeframe and budget Melvin quoted me. We used Karson's when my daughter moved about 18 months ago. They were so good that we hired them to move our office recently. They go over and above. My daughter moved to a 3rd floor apartment and the stairway was too narrow to get her couch up. They hoisted it up onto the roof of their truck and then hoisted it again over her back balcony and through the sliding glass door. What a team! A+ service. Our office move went extremely well too. They are on time and wrapped our office equipment (large copy machines) with more than ample protective bubble wrap and heavy duty tape. I found Karson's Movers by doing a Yelp! search after I received a lot of questionable quotations from other movers in northern NJ. We were renting a townhome and also had storage items in our garage. We purchased a new home, and Karson's Movers made it super easy to move right in. They showed up right on schedule. The guys were all great - and they really busted a move to get us into the new home with no issues. Not a scratch on anything and they wrapped our furniture quickly. No issues and they had to haul stuff from the 3rd floor down to the truck and then up to the 2nd floor in the new house. I don't know how they did it, but they did it and within the time frame allotted to us in the estimate. Karson is a very responsive guy, himself - he emailed me to follow up today (the move was Saturday) and offered to refund me the difference between the actual hours worked vs. what was estimated. How many other moving companies would have the honesty and integrity to do that, I ask you? A stellar experience from beginning to end. The overall experience with Karson's Movers was positive. His entire team was very friendly and professional, yet they made the process fun! They took great care in wrapping up the furniture and moved some heavy pieces. I felt very confident that they knew what they were doing. When they broke some glass shelves on a stereo cabinet, they quickly said that they would replace them, which they did. I had the replacements in little over a week. I'm giving 4 stars in stead of 5 because of underestimation of the truck size and amount of time it would take to complete the job. However, I'm sure their estimating process will substantially improve with additional experience. They have what it takes to be a premier moving company in Hunterdon County! I found Karson's Movers while searching on the internet to handle a small job. We dismantled our old wooden swingset and needed it hauled away. It was so easy to get a quote with a phone call then emailing a picture of the pile to be removed. Karson was very responsive the same day I reached out. Even for my small job, their customer service and communication was outstanding. After confirming an appointment via email, I received an email to accept the appointment that was added into my gmail calendar automatically. I then received a call from Karson the night before confirming our appointment. Then I received a text in the morning stating the truck was on the away 10 minutes before their arrival. They brought a fairly large truck which took some time backing up and manuvering on my curved driveway. But they were very careful not to damage the belgian block along my driveway (I was watching). At exactly the agreed time, they were fully backed up to the pile and ready to load. The two gentlemen were friendly and efficient and were on there way in less than 15 minutes.
