I locked myself out of my apartment and needed a locksmith to get back in. I called affordable locksmith on yelp and was told a technician would call me and would be here in 20 minutes. I asked about pricing and was told $29 for the service call and then it would probably be about $50. The technician called me and was here in about 10 minutes. As he started to work on the lock he said he was going to have to destroy the lock in order to get it opened. And he then said it was going to be $149. I told him other locksmiths had let me in as this was not the first time I've locked myself out unfortunately and none of them had to destroy the lock to get me back in. I also told him that I had been told the price would be about $50. I told him he could leave and I would find another Locksmith. All of a sudden he said he could get the lock open without destroying it and so he did. Then he proceeds to tell me it will be $80. I paid the $80 just to get rid of him. Avoid this company like the plague they will try to jimmy you out of every cent they possibly can. I repeat myself avoid them at all cost. read more

I chose this locksmith because of their ratings being 5.0. I wasn't sure if I needed a repair or a new deadbolt and handle so no estimate could be given over the phone. Someone name Ben called me back and said he could be out that evening. He later called and said there were too many emergencies so he could not come that night after all, but he could come in the morning. That was fine as I did not have an emergency lock out. He called the next morning to give me an approximate time. Once he got in the mobile home park I live in,he called to get my space number and directions to my house. The communication was good, EXCEPT the man who answered the first time I called the number for the company (which I found on Google) did not mention the $65 trip charge. When Ben got to my house, he did mention the $65 trip charge when I told him that was not told to me by the man who initially answered my call, & he (Ben) did not tell me in any of the conversations we had about the trip charge. He said I didn't ask. I told him I should not have to ask. It should be told to every customer right upfront before they decide to hire. He said he would cut it to $30 as though he was doing me a big favor. I did appreciate that until it seemed I was getting ripped off for the entire price in the end. It seemed like every time Ben opened his mouth there was another charge for something. That is an exaggeration, but that is how I felt! Ben left his van running, I asked him was he going to leave it running and he said yes, because his girlfriend was in the van. I did not understand because her window was down and it was a beautiful day outside, so I asked him was his van running so the AC could be on, he said no. I told him I did not want to listen to it, so he asked the girlfriend to turn the engine off. (I was on the front porch so I could be there when he was installing the deadbolt and handle.)Then he said he usually keeps his van running for some machines in the back of the van. It made no sense to me what machines were in his van that needed the engine to be on. I also told him it is very unprofessional to have his girlfriend in the van waiting while he is working. From the minute he got to my house until he left, kI felt he was in a big rush by his mannerisms. Maybe he was since he told me he had to drop his girlfriend off at the transit center that's why she was in the van. My thought was he should've dropped her off before arriving to do a job at my house. He took the old lock and handle off, said I needed a new ones. He asked if I wanted him to put new ones, I said yes, asked price. I did not have a choice of colors but thankfully, I liked what he had. When he was done and I was going to pay, he gave me the total which was once again higher than what he had said. When I questioned it, he said it's because of the tax. I asked if he took Zelle or Venmo, he said yes. I then decided to use a Credit card. He told me if I used Zelle or Venmo I would not have to pay tax. I gave them my credit card after rolling my eyes.I suggested that in the future, if people call to get information on their service whoever answers the phone should be telling the customers there's a $65 trip charge! He told me I never asked him, I said I should not have to! It should be something they automatically tell the customers up front before decision is even made to hire them. He left the old lock, handle, screws from old lock, along with the plastic bubble wrap from the new lock sitting on a chair. He was walking to his van I asked, wasn't he going to take the trash? He said no that's not up to him no big deal, but any worker I've ever had always took the trash! If I didn't need to get this done right away, I surely would have told him to leave and called somewhere else! $359 to install deadbolt and handle! read more
