Terribly run office. Insisted on unnecessary X-rays, to essentially scam my insurance. Contradicted a radiologist report with 0 explanation. Could not answer even basic questions & couldn't be bothered to try. Waited 45 minutes after my appointment started to be seen. The doctor insisted on a new xray because one from ~3 months ago was too old. Looked at the MRI I brought him for 20s & then made a new diagnosis, contradicted by its report with no explanation. He pointed at an area of the shoulder that would be inflamed, if this new diagnosis were true & it was completely opposite to where I've been experiencing pain. When questioned about this, absolutely no explanation whatsoever other than a shrug, 'I don't deal with that. did you want a painkiller prescription?' The most blatant example of doing the least work possible + doing anything he possibly can to bill insurance more with unnecessary steps. Avoid him like the plague, if any other options are available to you. read more

Only the front desk staff was nice; the rest of the staff was not friendly. We spoke with the doctor for only 2-3 minutes, and he was very unprofessional. He didn't even want to listen to my father's concerns and rushed out of the room before we could finish our conversation or ask questions. This was very rude and unacceptable behavior. If I could give no stars I would. My visit on 8/19/2025 was short of pleasant. Before I began, I will say, Vivan was great, so great I even gave her a gift card. I was called back to a room by a nurse, she wanted to take my height and weight and because I had my daughter's father there with me, and he is noise, I didn't want to weight myself in front of him. I told her I was 6'2 (which I am) and I wrote down my weight once in the room. Another nurse came in and stated the Dr. wanted an x-ray and I shared with her I have the CD of my MRI. I was told by the UC and ER that I needed and MRI not and x-ray. She stated she will tell the Dr. The Dr. came in, and his bedside manor were HORRIBLE. He looked at my weight and said, well your weight plays a part in why your knee is hurting. Sir, I work out daily, I swim, I run, and I've played sport half my life, are you going to ask what happened for a torn meniscus. He said (Talking at me) because if you want surgery, and I said I was hoping to not have to have surgery, and I shared that I started PT. I said, I'm a big girl, and he ran his eye up and down me and said, yes you are a big girl. That made me feel creepy. He then shared on why he wanted me to get and x-ray. He said it shows if I have arthritis and in a mri it doesn't show that. The nurse comes back in to do the x-ray and I said I hope I can fit on the F&*king x-ray machine with be being this fat. She then said, you will be standing. We get in to the room and she keep talking about my height, about 3 to 4 times on trying to fix the room so I can stand because you are to tall to stand on this or too tall to stand here and the x-ray machine may not this and that.. I said nothing, where would you like me, he said stand right there. I stood where she wanted me to stand, I didn't say a word. She then said face forward and I did as she said. She then yells out the room and said "I'm scared of her (me) and she doesn't want to x-ray me. She said because I used the f-boom, and I had an attitude. I mean, if you make a patient feel as 600lb lifeish, or a BIG female Shaq, how am I supposed to act? I got my CD and left. read more

Doctor Karayan is a very honest and good orthopedic surgeon, he did my knee replacement operation and i am for ever thankful for excellent job he did.. He has a very good staff and he follow up the patient after the surgery.. and most of all he is not money hungry and id the operation is not a must he let you know your other options...after my knee replacement i needed a rotating cuff problem and i visited him and instead of replacement he send me to a another doctor to repair my cuff and not replace it, basically he passed in a large payoff and saved me from having another replacement ..that for me it is a proof of being a good doctor and honest man..God bless him.if you need a orthopedic specialist you can trust him read more

I'm insured through my company policy, Access + HMO Blue Shield of CA- probably a cause of my woe. I was referred here through my PCP on March 2020 and given an initial appointment that was 60 days later- when I asked why the queue was so long I was told that the Dr. is in the office a total of 12 hrs per week. So if you're expecting timely care, this is NOT the office for you. However, I was given the option to call every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday after 2 pm to check for cancellations and advance my appointment, which I took advantage of. My appointment was pushed up to April 8 and then promptly cancelled. Due to the pandemic this office is closed indefinitely. No referral to another practitioner, no tentative reschedule, just a good luck, sorry for the wait. TLDR: This office is a symbol of everything that is wrong with our healthcare system- an overworked system that undervalues the average joe. If you're looking for consistent care in a timely manner this office is not for you. read more

If I could give this place negative stars I definitely would. If you look at the amount of 1 stars for this office it all makes sense now. I waited for this appointment for months with immense pain. They called me weeks ago since my insurance changed to get a new authorization. I got the new authorization and I called before going into my appointment to find out THEY canceled my appointment without notifying me. And they even tried to act like I canceled it myself. Lying workers that don't want to say they did their job wrong. They kept passing the phone from one worker to another instead of just taking the blame. Why would you cancel an appointment for no reason when the patient did not authorize it? And don't even get me started with the manager. Most useless manager I've seen she was just as clueless as the rest of the workers. She did not help what so ever and also tried to blame me for canceling which is ridiculous! POOR customer service. Friday morning appointment for consultation (4.5 stars) I endured a sprained ankle during a trail run, and followed-up a visit to my primary care physician, who then authorized an X-ray of the injury. Within a couple of hours, my PCP called me to indicate an avulsion fracture and authorized a visit to Dr. Karayan. I called Dr. Karayan's office on Monday to schedule a Thursday 9:30 am visit. Since I was going to be out of town, I arranged to reschedule a Friday morning appointment. I was told to go pick up a copy of my X-rays from Glendale Adventist Hospital for review. Friday morning I arrived before 9:00 am and was able to compete all obligatory documentation for insurance purposes. I was called in for another set of X-rays to see any changes. There was a brief wait and soon I was talking with Dr. Karayan. The visit was less than 10 minutes, but the X-rays show no major fracture and I was told to refrain from running the next two weeks. He added that I may start running within 2 weeks, at most a 10k, but no Griffith Park Trail Marathon that I was registered to run April 13. His assistant said that if there's any pain in 3 weeks to return for additional consultation. Thank you Dr. Karayan for your professional medical consultation. He was very informative of the results from the X-rays, and his staff were courteous. Make an appointment first thing in the morning if possible, and get there early. read more

I want to give my review mainly because of the extraordinary surgical competence of Dr Karayan. I realize that the office experience is lacking (he obviously likes pretty girls around him as opposed to intelligence) and his bedside manner is non-existant, however, his surgical skills are amazing. If you need surgery you will not find a better surgeon. If you need to be coddled, forget it, go somewhere else. The communication is brief. If you clearly state what you want and insist on a printed copy you will get it. You must know and take charge of what you need. If I ever need another fake joint I only hope he is still available. My total hip replacement is perfect with a tiny 4 inch scar. I am more than grateful; I thank God for Dr Karayan and Medical everyday. I really hate the staff, but gave 5 stars to offset those who gave 1 without actually utilizing Dr Karayan's skills. read more

I actually had to login to post this information. This is the worst service I have ever experienced from staff members. I came in with crutches to get looked at, I knew I had a copayment but no one told me what form the copayment was to be. I called in an hour before I came in to check if I had all the information and got forwarded to their answering line because they all had gone to lunch. Then when I finally got a hold of them, no one mentioned a copayment medium. I came in ready to get seen and pay the copayment with card and was told they couldn't see me because they don't accept card. It was a completely horrible experience and finally they sent me away because I said the F-word. Yeah I said the F-word because am in crutches and they were incompetent not to mention any form of prepreparation and they were asking that I go to the ATM when I can barely walk. I rarely review but this has been the worst experience in my life. Incompetence starts at the front and I honestly don't have much confidence in the ability of the doctor. Two young Armenian girls chattering at the reception desk, did not heed the urgency of my condition. Staff did not offer assisstance from the entrance to the building to the office when I was immobile and needed a wheelchair.The receptionist did not give me a receipt for my copay. I had to ask for the receipt on the 2nd visit. I was told I could not be given an invoice or bill to mail my copay--they simply handed me a blank envelope and told me to put a check in it (no invoice). They "forgot" to give me my 2 prescriptions the doctor wrote. They "shredded" my MRI report and had to request another one by FAX, which came in incomplete and further delayed my visit with the doctor. read more

One of the worst experiences of my life!!! The main girl who answers the phone (she sounds young and can't speak English decently) has a lower education level than that of a pre-schooler. After I received my authorization to go see Dr. Karayan, I called the office to make an appointment. The girl answered and put me on hold immediately for about 5 minutes. Then when she came back, she asked me what I wanted and I said "an appointment". She asked me to call back one hour later due to them being busy. That right there was the next total shock. She did not even apologize and did not even to take down my name or phone number and have the decency to call me back. I called back and hour later and she gave me an appointment for the following week. I told her to make sure to call my primary physician's office and request a copy of my MRI. She called me back the next day, asking if I myself could call my primary physician's office and have them send the copy of my results over due to me being a new patient. At this point, I was extremely furious because I knew that me being a new patient had nothing to do with her asking me to call my own physician's office. I then requested to speak with The office manager. I complain like there's no tomorrow and she apologized several times, stating that she would take care of whatever went wrong and make everything "right". I called the office one day before my appointment, just to make sure that they had called for my MRI results and have them in their possession. That same stupid receptionist told me "uhhh, I'm not sure if we have it". At that point, I literally cussed her out, hung up the phone and called my insurance company immediately and asked to speak with their supervisor. I demanded that this doctor be removed from all insurance companies and have them shut down due to their incompetence level and lack of professionalism. I have never been treated this way in my life by any doctors office and will tell all of my friends to not step foot in this office. First I must say that I hold Dr. Karayan in the highest regard. He's performed two very successful and fast-healing surgeries on my hips and I would trust him with any orthopedic procedure. True, his bedside manner could use some improvement, but I don't visit my docs for strokes. I require skill in their work. I would give his professionalism 5 stars! For his staff, however, I'd award a MUCH lower mark and this review is directed at them. My most recent experience with the staff: Last month I called to schedule an appointment. The person who answered the phone seemed hostile and mentioned that I had cancelled my previous appointment (which had been scheduled during the early stages of the covid19 crisis). I explained my reason for cancelling and my desire for another appointment. Apparently Dr. Karayan is very busy, since I waited over 3 weeks to be seen. Upon arriving, I noticed that there seemed to be no guidelines for distancing, in fact most of the chairs in his very small waiting room were occupied. When the gatekeeper finally acknowledged me, she took my temperature and exited. When she returned, she stated that I didn't have an appointment - none scheduled for that day nor any other day. When I explained that I was quite sure I had scheduled an appointment, and why would I appear if I had not, she offered to do further research, only to return with the same response. During these exchanges, she was impatient and unfriendly. I returned home, frustrated and angry. I am convinced that Dr. Karayan must not read the many reviews on Yelp or any other site complaining about the terrible staff he has hired. If he has, shame on him! Sad to say, I will return because of his skill but I sincerely wish that he'd make some staff changes. He deserves more than two yelp stars. read more

His rude and incompetent staff suggests he is an incompetent doctor. I had a referral from my PCP to Dr. Karayan, and when I called to make an appointment they told me the earliest appointment I could get was over a month away. I agreed, and requested the day off work in advance. Two days before my appointment they called to confirm. Then the morning of my appointment they called to tell me that my appointment had been canceled because my coverage had been terminated, which I knew was not accurate. I asked why they had not checked my eligibility when I had made or confirmed the appointment, and got brushed off. I called my insurance company and found that through an error my medical group had been changed, and had the correct information with my updated medical group faxed to the doctors office. The representative from the medical group and myself called the office, and were repeatedly told to call back, and when we were able to speak with someone, were told that the updated information had not been received, despite the representatives insistence that she had just faxed it over. In the time it took to clear the matter up they told me that I would probably not be able to keep my appointment, and they needed authorization from their office manager. In that time the rep from my medical group and I, having agreed that this doctors staff were both rude and incompetent, decided to seek an alternative, and I was able to get an appointment to see someone else the next day. That doctor had a polite staff and is highly reviewed, which as you can see from his two star Yelp rating and 1.5 star HealthGrades rating, Dr. Karayan is not. It all worked out for the best, as I'd rather lose the money taking an additional afternoon off work than be examined by some quack. read more

If I could give this doctor negative stars I seriously would. This office is unprofessional, doesn't care about patients at all, and is simply rude. My fiancé has a torn tricep and was told that they would contact him to come in for a 2nd consult before scheduling surgery. 1 month passed still no response, when we called the office they rudely informed us to keep waiting and that they would contact us. We waited another month and when we called them again after no response from there end, they said that they apparently don't take my fiance's insurance as of 2 months ago. They made my fiancé wait for 2 months for no reason with a torn tricep when they assured us he would be taken care of. Because of Dr. Karayan and his unprofessional staff who is clueless about anything you ask them, my fiancé has complications with his arm now. Dr Karayan performed a miracle by the meticulous reconstruction of my wrist when I fell and severely fractured it in many places. My hand was dangling and I was amazed at the complete range of motion I had post operation. His instructions to exercise my hand helped with complete recovery. For some, going to an orthopedic surgeon is an unpleasant experience but I had no worries with Dr. Karayan. The care I received was excellent. The whole team makes every effort to make it less stressful. When you find an honest, trustworthy, compassionate and conscientious doctor, you hold on to them. Dr. Karayan continues to learn about the latest technology to provide his patients with the best care. He ran all the appropriate test to help diagnose and reduce my pain. Now, I am pain free in my hip and would definitely recommend and revisit him again but hopefully I won't need to. read more

They wasted our time for a month. My mom has medicare but apparently needed supplemental insurance for a procedure. We were told by Dr Karayan she needed one thing, but when we called MediCal they said there's no such thing. We called several times to the office manager Sandy who did not want to take our call and I asked to speak to the doctor, they didn't let me. Customer service is horrible. We are just trying to figure out exactly what coverage my mother needs to have a necessary procedure. There are many other great doctors in town to go to, they are not the only one and need to improve their customer service. I've never seen a doctor office try to avoid a patient's call. If you are expecting any kind of service or assistance, this is not the place to go. read more
