So grateful to have stumbled on Dr Bastian! I have a rare-ish connective tissue disorder called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. This condition makes me more prone to orthopedic injuries, but having this condition also comes with a much higher risk of complications with any surgeries, which I have experienced in the past. I recently injured my shoulder and wanted to make sure it wasn't something that required treatment. I always get anxious when I see any type of surgeon as most aren't knowledgeable about EDS and can't properly take it into consideration when discussing next steps. I was so relieved to find that not only was Dr Bastian very knowledgeable about EDS, but prioritized it as a factor when recommending next steps. He did a thorough exam and outlined a detailed recovery plan, then even took the time to give lifestyle tips in general with my condition. Had my appointments canceled 3 times after rescheduling due to emergency surgeries that came up last minute. Honestly 1 or 2 times, frustrating yes but understandable. But 3 times? Within 3 weeks? Awesome doctor. He is caring , funny and spends time with the patients. I went to him for second opinion after an arthroscopy done at another facility. He actually sat there, listened , explained my options and then got to work. I am terrified of needles but didn't even feel the shot he gave me. Terrible service from the staff at this office. My insurance requested they take care of something before my MRI this Thursday and had sent the request in last week. The office did not do anything that was asked of them, and only moved forward when I called in myself a few days after to ensure it was taken care of. Of course it wasn't and because they didn't do anything, I wasn't able to get authorization In time. Also, with all my aches and pains, the ONLY recommendation the office and Dr Bastian provided was just doing cortisone shots and sending me on my way. Hardly a professional solution, just keep shooting yourself with it and you'll be fine for a few months. Terrible experience, will never go back again. I had been having elbow pain for more than 10 years and my condition was getting progressively worse. Finally last year, I decided to go see Dr. Bastian for an evaluation. In summary, we agreed on cubical tunnel release on both sides. During the surgery he decided I also needed transposition of the nerves for a better long term outcome. It's been 7 months since my surgery and my pain is more than 75% gone, and continues to improve weekly. My strength is coming back and I'm able to do more activities without the pain I used to have. I was nervous at first not knowing what the outcome would be but I'm glad now that I picked Dr. Bastian to do the surgery. To his credit he tried to approach the problem with less invasive ways but I opted to skip them having tried in the past with limited success. The office staff is also great and they regularly follow up to ask about my condition. I highly recommend this facility for your orthopedic needs. read more

To whom it may concern, I met with Dr. Bastian concerning a carpal tunnel release surgery. I wanted sedation and he said he would only do local because it was a "quick 10-minute outpatient surgery". The surgery took place on July 18th. During it Dr. Bastian hit something in my hand that was excruciating. My blood pressure went up to 220 and the tourniquet wasn't working. I looked over at him and said "What did you just do? Did you cut something?". He said no and proceeded to close up the hand and release me. The four months post-surgery were filled with intense pain. I did hand rehab and was taking ibuprofen like they were candy and nothing would subdue the pain in my hand. I lost skin sensation in the thumb, index, and middle finger. After four months of asking him why it hurt so much, he said "Try pain management doctors." Instinctively I knew something was very wrong, so I sought out a second opinion with Dr. Hay at the Kerlan-Jobe Institute. Dr. Hay is a hand specialist and with him I did a special 3T MRI. Upon reviewing the MRI, Dr. Hay said he couldn't see the median nerve, it could be severed or not visible in the MRI. He also said that he would not do surgery on my hand because he's not a microvascular surgeon and my condition might be a result of nerve damage. So he was kind enough to tell me the truth and refer me to a microvascular surgeon at USC Keck Medicine. I met with Dr. Milan Stevanovic. I read all his reviews, background history, and referrals from other doctors and was confident that whatever was going on with my hand, he could fix. On November 14th I went in for surgery. Everything about the procedure went exceedingly well. Dr. Stevanovic said that he decompressed the median nerve that was severely compressed. He said the median nerve was not severed but very traumatized from extra scar tissue due to the first surgery. He didn't say this verbatim, but his opp report reflects the insight that Dr. Bastian, not only didn't do the surgery that I went in for, but made matters worse because of him going in and disturbing an already delicate condition. I am happy to say that after one week out of surgery with Dr. Stevanovic the pain was virtually gone, and I was using my hand already. I asked when the tactile sensation would return to the thumb, index, and middle finger. Dr. Stevanovic told me it's going to be 6-7 months as he couldn't reverse that damage that was already done. I was lied to for 4 months about why I wasn't healing by Dr. Bastian, and also that he asked me to tough it out and wait 6 months more while my hand wasn't recovering. If I hadn't had the strong intuition that the surgery was mishandled I would still be suffering today and getting worse. Dr. Bastian is without empathy, ethics, or compassion. I am dissappointed beyond belief. I believe its criminal, to watch someone suffer and know you didn't say that day or the next that the the surgery went wrong. then refer me to a real surgeon to correct it. shame on dr. bastian a man without ethics. read more

Came in with a boxer fracture fixed me up really fast and had me on my way my hand is back to normal. I highly recommend Dr. Bastian and would not think twice to refer him to my friends and family. My experience with his office/team felt like I was hanging out with my extended family on a weekly basis. As an individual who has avoided major injuries throughout his life, I could not ask for a more personalized experience. I fully tore my achilles while snowboarding right before Christmas. It was important to me to find a doctor who had a background sport medicine. I was able to see Dr. Bastian immediately after getting the MRI, and was able secure an operation 2 days later at a surgery center about 10 minz away.
