After what felt like an almost perfect--actually, if memory serves me right, perfect--evening at Karahi Boys in Toronto, expectations were sky-high for the Virginia location. First off, they've kept the cool interior, which creates a great atmosphere--so that box is definitely checked. The space is huge, and at least on weekdays before 6 p.m., it doesn't seem like reservations are necessary. But what do I know--I live in McLean Now to the food. We went for the poori breakfast. One breakfast thali comes with two pooris, potato tarkari, halwa, chana, and achar. Interestingly (and new to me), it also included scrambled eggs. The eggs were a bit overdone, but honestly, that's not why we came. The poori was excellent, and both the chana and tarkari delivered on flavor. If you like a bit of heat, the achar definitely does the trick. For the kids, we added fries and nuggets, and we wrapped it all up with mango lassi and sweet lassi--both solid choices. All in all, it came very close to the Toronto experience. The service, however, could have been more attentive--especially given that the restaurant wasn't very busy. That might have just been an off moment. Price-wise, it's slightly higher than other poori brunch spots (by around $5 or so), and once you add tip, it adds up. Bottom line: Great food and atmosphere, close to the Toronto standard--but service and pricing leave a little room for improvement. read more

Inside is also decorated nicely like an elevated but still casual restaurant Mango lassi - actually great quality, good balance of sweet from mango and no artificial flavor and the tartness of the yogurt 8/10 Kboys chicken Karahi - my favorite of what we ordered! Had a really nice sauce and some pieces were juicy and tender but some were kinda dry 7/10 Other chicken dish - this was eh. I was in the area and stopped by during Ramadan around 5:30 PM, and it was noticeably quiet--which I quickly realized was because they were getting ready for iftar later in the evening. I almost left, not wanting to interrupt, but the staff warmly insisted on accommodating me. It was really sweet, especially since it was the last day of iftar. Service was quick. I ordered the Karahi boys chicken karahi and garlic naan, and both were absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. Overall, a great experience. This Pakistani restaurant has a lot of potential. The dining room is spacious, attractive, and has a pleasant ambiance. Unfortunately, the overall experience doesn't yet match the setting. Ordering online for takeout appears to have technical issues, and the system doesn't always connect properly. Reservations are also expected to be made online, which was inconvenient. The Seekh Kabab was flavorful but came with only two kebabs instead of the three listed on the menu, along with a small serving of chutney and a few slices of onion. At $19, it did not include naan or any bread. The Bahari Kabab ($30) was enjoyable, but it wasn't a traditional Bahari Kabab. It would be better to give it a different name that reflects what is actually being served. Once again, it was accompanied by only a few onion slices, chutney, and no bread. The Lahore Fish consisted of small, bite-sized pieces that were heavily battered and served with the same chutney. The Chicken Karahi had the potential to be very good. The sauce was flavorful, but the chicken pieces were very small and bony. The Nihari was well prepared, but the accompaniments were minimal, and naan was not included. In general, the barbecue dishes lacked the generous accompaniments and presentation one expects at these prices. The kheer was average and not particularly memorable. Our server was pleasant, knowledgeable, and took our order promptly. However, used plates were never cleared during the meal, leaving dirty dishes on the table throughout. The constant clatter of dishes and loud conversations among the bussing staff created a cafeteria-like atmosphere that distracted from what should have been a more enjoyable dining experience. Overall, this restaurant has great potential, but the food presentation, accompaniments, table service, and dining-room atmosphere need refinement. At its current prices, I expected a more polished dining experience, better value, and service that matched the quality of the setting. read more

Karahi boys is a great addition to Sterling. Finally a clean, modern Karahi place we've so desperately needed. While Ravi and Shinwari are aging poorly and in desperate need of modernization and quality control. The first visit to Karahi boys was surprisingly delicious. The staff was friendly and was nice enough to help us not over order. This place is new and in their soft opening so they had a limited menu. We decided to get HALF Charsi Goat Karahi ($40) and full kboys chicken Karahi ($41), 3 family naans (8 each) and the sultan rahi tikki boti (18). We have to give them some grace because this is a soft opening. Here's where I fell off a bit. They are priced as if they are a fine dining establishment and need to adjust prices based off the quantity and presentation. $40 for half a serving of goat karahi doesn't make sense, especially with no naans. It would have made more sense for the half to be $25 / full $40 based off the quantity we received. The goat karahi was tender but lacked flavor. All we tasted was salt. 6/10. The kboys chicken karahi was delicious 10/10. Quantity was good for the price. The tikka boti flavor wise was 10/10 but quantity was very small. I will try again when the hype dies down and best believe if they don't update the prices the hype will die down. Let's hope they will try to stay in the game. read more

1 Star - Very Disappointing Experience This was my first time visiting Karahi Boyz, and as a long-time VIP Yelper, I always try to be fair and honest. We ordered the K Boyz Karahi, and unfortunately it was extremely salty--to the point where it was not edible. For a dish priced around $40, this was very disappointing. One of the partners came over and asked how everything was. I gave an honest, polite review of the food. Instead of addressing the issue, offering a fix, or even following up, he walked away and never returned. That was surprising and frankly unacceptable at this price point. Everyone can have an off day in the kitchen, but how you handle feedback matters. Poor food combined with poor customer service makes it hard to justify coming back or recommending this place. The atmosphere is very nice and welcoming. The Ramadan buffet was delicious with a variety of options. The sultans chicken karahi is truly exceptional. There's a small area for praying as well. The food is all HALAL. The staff is helpful but may need to brush up on better customer service training. All in all this has been one of the top iftaar spots I have been to this Ramadan. read more

I can see I'm not the only one who has a problem with Karahi Boys. It's such a good concept that is so poorly executed. First: the wait. Karahi Boys is popular, as I believe it is part of a chain that is well respected elsewhere. As a result, its usually pretty busy and on the Friday evening I went there, around 7 pm, it was absolutely packed. Still, I "only" had to wait 35 minutes for a table for 3. I took off a half star for this, because the waiting area was FREEZING, and the system by which people were called was not orderly. Multiple people were trying to cut ahead of us. It was only by really being on top of the situation that I was able to get us a table. I took off one star for that. The table itself was right by the door and it was FREEZING. My kids and I kept our big coats on for the entire meal. It was really unpleasant, just a horrible way to eat. When we asked to be reseated, we were told "Not possible" despite the fact that all they had to do was wait for another table to open up and move us. . So, I took another star off for that. It made the meal really uncomfortable. Service was not great. It took our waiter a while to get to us. He took our order and our drinks came out quickly, within about ten minutes. The rest of the food took one hour. That's right. After waiting for 35 minutes, we had to wait another HOUR for our food. Here's the thing. It's a big restaurant. A long wait. But if your kitchen cannot serve this many people in a timely manner, you should not have such a big restaurant. It's as that. It's clear the kitchen was absolutely overwhelmed. So we sat in our freezing table, waiting for food that we really hoped would be excellent for an hour. Another star removed. Now the food. This was the biggest disappointment. The chicken Karhai was ALL BONES. There was hardly any meat to be found. While the spice level was good, I didn't pay $30 for a scrawny chicken. The Lahori fish was cold, a bit tasteless and very dry. The beef and Malai kabobs were good, but slightly dry. I ordered Raita they never brought. So...one more star gone. I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant, we ventured out of our way, on a freezing cold Saturday for early dinner, sadly this place was a disappointment. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated, and I liked the comfortable seating and lighting, but that wasn't what I was there for. Firstly the shorter lady usher at the front door has to go, she looked miserable and not at all welcoming, she barely spoke, but her face said it all. Our waiter was better, more friendly. Service was slow, food, water, extra plates, cutlery took a long while to come out. The highlight of our meal was the family naan, soft, fluffy and buttery, which is sad, because we were there for the karahi. We ordered a half chicken mild karahi, but it was really spicy, and filled with mainly bones, there was hardly any meat. The biriyani was also pretty spicy, with only chicken and rice, there were no fried onions, potatoes or eggs but it did come with a very small raita. Visited KBs this past weekend and if I did not experience it myself I would never believe someone if they told me I was going to experience what I did. Let's start with the pros "Ambiance". Pretty much stops there. There was 2 of us and upon our arrival we were told that it would be a 45 min + wait. No problem! Understandable its a weekend not the first time we've had to wait. However the host was taking patrons names on a sheet of paper similar to anyone who visited Pakistan in the 80 or 90s, and the airline lost your luggage it was like that. The paper was being handed off between the young man at the front and a gentlemen who I'm presuming was the owner. After 1-hr mercifully our name was called, and when we were taken into the dining hall, the gentlemen who I believe was the owner did not know where to seat us. During this time this same gentlemen questioned were there only really 2 of us? So we get to the table, no cutlery or glasses. Again, no issue as we were just glad to get seated, and shortly after the plates, then the glasses (with no water), and 1 of 2 cutlery sets were brought. Eventually our waiter arrived and we gave our order 1 goat karahi, 1 chicken seekh kabob and 1 malai boti plus some drinks. My wife coincidentally asked the waiter how long it would take, and he told us 50 mins. So to put this in perspective we arrived at 7:30pm EST, and were seated at 9pm EST, and were just told we would have to wait close to another hour for our food. Anyway, 52 mins go by and still no sign of our food, so at that point we started asking anybody who would listen to us if they could tell us anything about our order. A second gentlemen (different than the one who seated us) in a shalwar kameez happened to be walking by and we asked him. He said that it would take 1:15 mins. When we told him that the waiter told us 50 mins, and we'd been waiting longer than that (again we were at 52 mins) he said we were mis-informed, and what seemed like almost proudly he was boasting about why it takes so long for the food to be prepared. Not sure if he was overwhelmed, but anyone who reads this can you imagine telling someone that you have not waited long enough for your food? He was nice enough to give us a free appetizer (again 52+ mins into our wait). In summary after you read this along with the other reviews where folks have posted the same experience AND are still brave enough to visit this location here are some recommendations: eat a full 3-to-5 course meal before arriving, please read every available dua for "sabr" (patience), but still plan on leaving super mad. If this sounds appealing than KBs Sterling, VA is the place to be! Afterwards we went to Cha Tea House and there service was amazing. read more

This place has it all! Food, service, and ambiance all in one. The spice level is tolerable even for kids and packs great flavors. It does require coming and eating in a family style order so you can enjoy the various exotic dishes served at this fine dining establishment. I called to place a pick up order and the person told I had to come in. I said I'm happy to pay over the phone if the issue is that you don't think I'll come to pick it up after making it.
