I had a lot of time before a trans-Atlantic flight out of Newark, so I popped down to Kane with a fellow Yelper to try some of their beers. I wanted something strong before my flight, so I ordered 4 oz glasses of "Picture in Reverse" and "Tomorrow is Already Here". Picture in Reverse is a bourbon barrel-aged ale that is quite strong at 13.2% ABV, but also quite tasty. It almost tasted like I was sipping a glass of bourbon. This is one I'd definitely consider getting again and I wish I could get it closer to my home in Albany. "Tomorrow", on the other hand, was nothing to write home about. This was a rye barrel-aged wheatwine with maple syrup. Way too heavy on the sugar and the maple overpowered everything. It almost felt like I was drinking a glass of maple syrup. While there were a lot of people inside with parking hard to come by, the space felt open and airy, with plenty of room to move around. Kane was the local brewery I was longing to try on my recent trip to Central Jersey. What a disappointment! From the other reviews, both on Yelp and word of mouth, I'm hoping it was just a bad day for Kane. Walking in the day after the first winter storm of 2017, we seriously had to watch our step from the slick walkway. The brewery was also an ice box. I understand they have to keep the beer cold, but a tasting room where I wasn't shivering would've been nice. To order, there was a line to approach the bar where you could order and then move away. As the signs said, no drinking at the bar. That was a little laughable. The setup was fine overall, similar to other warehouse style set ups I've seen. There were picnic tables and wooden kegs to rest our flights on. My hoppy flight consisted of the Head High, Overhead, Sneakbox, and First Reef. They were perfectly average, which was disappointing based on all of the hype. Something didn't taste quite right to me either- the flavors didn't pop and they had a certain dullness/oddity to them. I know I shouldn't judge too harshly based on one experience, however as someone who doesn't live near the brewery, I have absolutely no incentive to return. Another stop on my wish to visit all the breweries in NJ. I have no idea how the GPS found this small industrial brewery but I am happy it did. When you first walk in to what looks like an office building, it looks like a waiting room for a doctor's office. If you continue through to the door with Kane on it, you enter a short hallway which leads you to a small room to fill up growlers. Pass through that, and now you're in this huge warehouse type room. A bar is on one side, and the giant silver kettles/vats are on the other side. The $6 flight gets you four 4oz tastes. The warehouse style tasting room is a huge space but had limited seating. I think there were 4 picnic tables and 6 barrells to stand around and use as tables. I really enjoyed the tasting and loved the apple brandy beer but probably would only drink 4 oz of it at most. Definitely a strong sipping beer. The other beers were strong, and good, and we really enjoyed our visit. I definitely recommend this brewery. read more

I recently came out to Kane Brewing Company on a Saturday with my girlfriend. I was in the mode to hangout at a brewery and stock up on some delicious beers at home before the weather gets bad. After looking up craft brewery reviews online, as well as beer advocate reviews for the best New Jersey Breweries, Kane seemed like the option to go with. Their beers had the most positive reviews (and overall reviews) in all of NJ. When we arrived, we started with two different beer flight samples. I had to go with their core brews, such as Head High IPA, Over Head IPA, & Sneak Box Pale Ale. All 3 of these beers were amazing. I love IPAs, and these did not disappoint. I also tried some of their dark imperial stout beers, as they go well during the winter months. Just as delicious. My girlfriend went with more of their hoppy draft choices on the menu, and she loved them as well. Her favorites were Whole Leaf Magic and Yellow Buttercup; both were just available on draft. Before we left, I stocked up on six 4 packs, of different beers in cans, to bring home. Overall, I loved this brewery and all the craft beer options they offered. Wow, these beers are freaking fantastic! Kane brews some very tasty stuff. Juicy juicy ipas dominate the menu and the mexican brunch is one of the best stouts I've ever had. I ordered a flight of 4 beers - wave party, overhead, mosaic punch and mexican brunch. The Mosaic Punch was my favorite IPA - super juicy taste and cloudy appearance. Could drink for days SON. The mexican brunch was the other standout - so chocolatey, cinnamony and delicious. Very impressed with the beers. I'll be back! read more

After having tried Kane beers in so many bars and at so many festivals around NJ, we finally made it to the brewery itself. I don't know why it took me so long because Kane is in a central location, and it's not more than a half hour from my house. Kane has a solid reputation and is one of the very best breweries in NJ. Their flagship beer, the Kane Head High, is perhaps the very best beer brewed in the Garden State. It's on tap everywhere. Although I am not an IPA enthusiast, this one is an exception. It tastes like flowing electric gold. I got a flight, and I enjoyed the darker, more malty beers, too. You can buy Kane Head High in the can. Another thing that makes Kane beers stand out is that they age some of them in actual barrels, which other breweries don't do. My mom came along, and she's not a beer drinker. However, we were able to really enjoy the tour together. The tour guide gave us extra time because we were really enthused and had so many questions. The brewery itself is not huge, but they have been expanding throughout the years as business grows. read more

I heard that Kane has Mexican Brunch beer, so I drove over an hour each way for it. It's... dedication? Kane is a large, custom-built warehouse holding all sorts of shiny beerery. There's actually enough room for a Saturday crowd and the lines weren't too long. I like the 8oz and 4oz pours... 16oz would be nice though! The Mexican Brunch was everything I hoped it would be, except people are right - not spicy. The maple... something... barrel aged was ridiculously sweet but definitely one of those experimental brews. Kane has come a huge way since 2011 and I can now say I enjoy their beers. They're working their way up toward 5 in quality and I think the space is worthy. Just wish it was closer to MY home. read more

I'm a woman who loves her beer, and especially her Kane IPA. I've been a fan of this beer ever since I tried their Overhead IPA at a local restaurant two years ago. The brewery is big with bench tables for seating. They have a great selection of beers with alcohol percentages reaching 11%. Their flights are very cheap, $9-11 for four glasses. It's been a few years (pretty much since they first opened!) since I last updated my review of Kane, and well... I just don't know. What used to be pure love has soured, and is now kind of bittersweet. The beer is still pretty decent, here. That said, gone are the days of being a brewery that specializes in amazing Belgian styles and stouts. The IPA craze has certainly taken hold here, and beers that I used to absolutely crave from here have either gone the way of the dodo, or are now in such limited supply that you need to fork over half your paycheck and stand on line for hours to get. (Seriously, a lot of the cans are upwards of $20+ a 4-pack, with bottle releases being even more expensive.) Pricing for flights has gotten quite expensive too, with my most recent flight being over $10, which is about my limit. Despite having picnic tables in the brewery, they don't allow any food here now, for whatever reason. Every single other brewery in NJ I've been to allows outside food, since they can't sell food themselves. This is an especially important thing, since most craft brews these days tend to be in the 8%+ ABV range, and drinking that on an empty stomach just sounds like an excellent way to break out in handcuffs. Finally, the crowds. As in, this place gets mobbed nowadays, and it's damned near impossible at times to find parking, or even a place to stand and put your beer down. This is made worse, since with the huge crowds, you don't get any opportunities to chat with the brewers or bartenders about the product, and everything is reduced to a quick get-in, get-out experience. Also, parents? Stop bringing your kids to breweries - there's nothing for them here, and it's downright irresponsible to go out drinking (and driving) with your kid in tow. If you can afford to drink craft beer, you can afford a sitter. I don't know, Kane. I love you guys, you do make pretty great beer, but it just isn't worth the hassle anymore. With so many amazing new breweries opening up lately, being huddled together with 3 of my friends in a hot (or freezing cold) taproom while waiting 20 minutes for an expensive flight just doesn't work for us. Your mileage may vary, and if the crowds / pricing / lack of food doesn't really bother you, then this may be just fine. The beer is, after all, quite tasty. read more

Keeping the same flagships and adding different beers pretty frequently is what keeps us coming back. Every beer they come out with is always solid. Sneak box is an absolute staple for sure. We always find a table, even if it means waiting a little bit. The line here speaks volumes to how great their beer is. Kane Brewing is such an awesome brewery! I was super stoked to come here because the Kane Overhead IPA was the first NJ craft beers that I ever had, so it was nice to finally to check out the brewery! Being that we were super close and I've had this place bookmarked for a really long time, my buddy Chris L. and I decided to go here after the Yelp's Winter Staycation event in Long Branch. Like most small craft breweries Kane Brewing is located in a industrial district with a very innocuous sign. The unique thing about their building is they share it with another company so, they have a lobby that looks like a doctor's office waiting room. They have two separate tasting rooms. The first tasting room is located near the entrance in an enclosed area and the other one is located inside the brewery. The one inside the brewery is way cool and waaaay cooler, as in temperature, because it's a brewery/warehouse. Make sure you get the beer flight so you can get a good tasting of the different beers. I had a few of the different IPA's and a pale ale (Single Fin, Solitude, and Mandarina) and an apple brandy barrel aged strong ale (Malus). All of them were great, but that Malus was just... wow!! Such a cool little brewery, make a point to check this place out. read more

Came here for part of my friend's bachelor party and it was a great idea! Located in an industrial park, it is actually pretty common for a brewery to be located in a place like this. They've got a medium sized parking lot and you enter through what kind of looks like a doctor's office waiting room. After that you get into the main tasting room, which is large, open, has lots of daylight, picnic tables and you can see the stainless steel vats holding the beer. Flights are the best way to go. You fill out a piece of paper with your 4 picks and they will place your beers on the flight paddle in the order associated with the paper you filled out. The pours are quite sizable so you definitely get your money's worth and then some. This place has a chill atmosphere, and people are friendly. It's really a nice place to go and you are lucky if you live near here. This is a review for the brewery but Kane beer is very good, one of the best New Jersey has to offer. If you were to do a brewery crawl in NJ, this place should definitely be on the list. read more

NJ has quite a few breweries now; some are excellent while others are mediocre. There are three that do it for me. Kane is definitely one of them and with good reason. Mike Kane is not shy about pursuing new taste experiences regardless where they go. They range from sessionable brews to high gravity monsters; Belgian wits to big triple IPAs. After having a large lunch we decided to stop in tonight to just have a couple of beers. We drank our way through two flights which allowed us to sample as many of Kane's eleven offerings as we could. I dare say there's nothing here for someone seeking an insipid "light beer", but if they want to expand their tastes and to see what all the hoopla is about craft beer than this is a great place to try. Staff here are all friendly and more than willing to answer any question you have from the taste of beer to the brewing process. Mike Kane can be seen running around and if your quick enough you can stop him to chat for a minute too. Ok here's what we had beer-wise. Head High and Overhead are IPA and double IPAs respectively. These are classics and they are frequently on tap at area bars. Single Fin is a great session beer. We did not try these. Firstly we went for their Hoplab series. The Hoplab Citra was a cloudy, aroma rich, completely enjoyable low gravity IPA. The Eldorado true to it's name was a golden rich DIPA and the Triple was a 10.5% ABV IPA. All were outstanding. The Simplicity a golden beer fermented with Belgian yeast was good but I did not care too much for the Cloud Cover which is described as a farmhouse wheat. Morning Bell is probably the best coffee flavored porter that exists. However for me the best beer of the night was hands down the Last Contact. It is a big porter fermented with sour cherries. It's not for everyone but the onslaught of flavors baffles the tongue with its complexity. If you live in Monmouth County or anywhere nearby you need to stop in for a beer or get some take out. read more

4.5 stars... Kane Brewery is almost literally hidden away down a quiet side street in an industrial complex. There's a tiny unassuming sign by the parking lot that says Kane Brewing Co but no signs by the door for the place so if you've never been you'll probably just have to follow other people who know where they're going. Once inside the tasting room is huge and full of wooden barrels aging some of their more interesting beer offerings. Seating may be limited during a busy Saturday afternoon but there's always plenty of standing room around. When I was here they had 11 beers on tap. A little over half of which were available for growler fills ($12-18 for 2L). 4oz samples are $2-3, and larger glasses (8 or 12oz depending on the beer) were mostly $6 (a few were $5). Their 6 most common beers are available for flights as well. Flights of four 4oz samples are an extremely reasonable $6. They had such a great variety of very tasty beer, so good in fact I would have actually taken at least a growler home had either of my two favorites been available for growlers. The two best beers that both me and my wife agreed on were I believe limited release beers. One was the Sunday Brunch (9.2% abv) an imperial milk porter w/ notes of coffee, maple, and cinnamon. The runner up was the Fall Saints (9.2% abv) a Belgium Ale w/ spices. Though those two stood out to us the couple we were with were more a fan of their IPAs, so there really was something for everyone (unless of course you're not really into beer or are exclusively a Stout drinker). It's also worth noting they have a great merch selection and a friendly staff. The only downsides is they don't have any snacks or games. Regardless I can't wait for a return trip here. read more

How is it possible that I have not reviewed Kane after drinking their beers for over a year? Located in a small industrial park off of Sunset Avenue in Ocean (behind the Wegman's shopping center on Rt 35), the facility is first class and they have made some recent improvements to their tasting room. At one time samples were free but that ended a couple of months back but it is no big deal. With the recent change in NJ law, they can now refill growlers from other breweries or your own personal growler. I am a real fan of their Head High IPA as well as the Overhead and if they still have a bottle or two, buy some of their Malus. The Single Fin is also a good choice. That was their first effort at bottling. They have distribution in the local area and I talk them up whenever I find myself in a bar or restaurant without their beers. Kiddieland! My wife and I love their beer, and went to the brewery to taste some limited run flavors that were only available on site. We were somewhat dismayed when shortly after we arrived, a family blew into the drinking area with four small children, who proceeded to explore and generally do what little kids do. When we saw one of the staff approach them, we thought it might be to ask them to control their children a bit, or move the whole family to a more appropriate area. No, it was to hand out cookies to the children! (In a no-food area, no less) They eventually sat at our table, and my wife and I felt pretty uncomfortable sitting and beer tasting with three children jostling next to us while the fourth sat on her dad's shoulders while he drank his beer. we eventually moved from the table, quickly finished our flight and beat a retreat. Pull up a picnic table in the unheated production room, get your flight of 4 fine drafts for $6 and study the fermentation tanks as you sip & enjoy. Kane makes some fine IPAs and pale ales. Their Apple brandy barrel aged Malus (Belgian dark strong ale) is absolutely fantastic, not quite a beer yet definitely not a cider, yummy. The stout was excluded from the flight, not to be taken lightly at 11% abv, excellent flavor. This 20 barrel microbrewery is soon expanding thru the back wall to make more beer!! We, uh, gave ourselves a lame tour. Peeked at the mash tun and fermentation tanks, also the barley silo. They're not anal about people taking the tour (unlike the "C" place just up the road). Food is strictly verboten, argh. Need a bit of something with these fine IPAS, even just pretzels would be great. In late 2015 Kane blew out their cult beer, A Night to End All Dawns, a porter aged in bourbon barrels, in an online sale. They moved 4,000 750ml bottles at $18 each in just 15 *seconds*. Aggravated a lot of people I gather. Didn't get to try it today and I ain't paying $75 each aftermarket either. read more

Finally made it to legendary Kane brewing. The entrance of the place feels more like a business building than a brewery, but when you walk into their tap room, it a a cool industrial building with 30 foot ceilings. They do flights,pints, cans to go along with growler fills. They have more beers on tap than I see in stores in north Jersey, and none of the beers disappointed. Sat down next to an older couple from upper NY state and talked to them about craft beer. Great beer, great atmosphere, you really can't go wrong. read more

Some friends and I wanted to tour some of the NJ Breweries that are in the northern half of the state. We live outside of Philadelphia so this trip would be over 90 minutes of travel. There were 8 of us, so instead of driving two cars up with 2 designated drivers, we decided to pay a driver and get a large mini van for the day. We planned on hitting up Carton Brewing and then Kane. After having a great visit at Carton Brewing it was on to Kane. We were denied access to the brewery b/c we showed up in a van. Now, please read this next part carefully b/c I am happy to admit my fault in all this... I did not read the fine print on their website carefully enough. It says, "We DO NOT allow any tour buses, limousines, party groups, bachelor or bachelorette parties, etc. in the brewery for tours and tastings." In my head I did not consider a group of mid thirties dads a "party group". I did not consider us a tour b/c it was not a professionally organized thing that we paid money to a company. The "manager" at the door claimed if we showed up in 2 cars we would have been allowed in. However, b/c we are grown ass adults with enough money to drive responsibly by hiring a driver, we were DENIED. This is such an important point! To me, this makes it seem like Kane has no problem with potential drunk driving. Why else would you allow multiple car loads of people in at the same time? Why not just say on your website, "Parties of 6 or more will be denied access."? That is so much clearer than what is currently on the site. Perhaps next weekend me and the same 7 friends will all drive separately up the the brewery. Is that safer? I know the other possible reason for denying service is if we were "visibly intoxicated". I'm old. I get full and bloated from drinking beer way before I get sloppy drunk. I can honestly say that none of us were acting sloppy. Even our driver was trying to help us by arguing with the manager. Thanks Ken! The worst part is that Kane was my favorite NJ brewery and now this left such a bad taste in my mouth that I am not going to buy their beer any more. Somewhat hard to find but look for the full parking lot in the industrial complex and you're there. The tasting room is well done but most of the fun is in the actual brewery space. Sometimes this place smells like a wet dog, sometimes it doesn't. It's usually crowded. The beer is good. Some of the staff are living the beer dream while others are just dreaming. This is a fun brewery! I stopped here with a few friends back in December and we really enjoyed visiting. The tasting room is fairly large and there's plenty of room for larger groups. The tastings were decently priced and we really liked the beer that we tried. It was nice to head down the shore and enjoy some good brews and I would stop in again if I was in the area. FYI, the brewery is in an industrial park, so it's fairly easy to drive by it and miss it (as we did), but it's worth turning around and coming back. read more

Dogs, food, and beer. Three of my favorite things. At most breweries you can find all three. (not necessarily food being served, but a food truck, or the ability to bring in food, etc. You get what I mean) Kane only checks one of the 3 boxes of what is known in the industry as the "Brewery Trifecta" And that box is beer. They have a good product, don't get me wrong. The beer is cold, bubbly, tastes good in my mouth, and feels good in my brain. However, I am a big fan of eating when I drink and also petting dogs while drinking craft beer. I can see if they were located in a cool area with cool scenery but they are in a Industrial complex. Pop in a couple TVs or a Juke box with a couple pool tables or darts. Something! We came on last Saturday to check it out as we were in town for a concert. It actually looked like a doctors office from the front but we were greeted by a friendly staff member in the front of the building. Once we came into the building there was a nice young man that explained the drafts he had to offer at the front of the building. Once we entered the back, there were several more beers available on tap as well as tables, barrels and a large area to spread out and taste brews. We didn't do a flight but we all enjoyed the beers that we chose. We will definitely be back again to try more of their beer. The staff is super friendly and we loved the atmosphere. read more

Last night my wife and I started our Asbury Micro Brewery tour with Kane. IV heard so many good things about Kane so I wanted to try it first. So my wife and I each got a different flight and shared. These are the ones we tried, Sneak Box, Side Shore, Vengeful Heart, Morning Bell, Head High, Overhead, Indicators, And Port. The one I liked the most was the port. I'm not a big fan of port, but this was lighter and had a nice nose and flavor. The morning blend was a little heavier. I could tell Kane is popular because it was packed as soon as it opened and had a steady flow of patrons going in and out buying their products. What I didn't like was the tasting area. It was packed and only has four tables to sit at. The rest is standing room only. Because it's so packed, and you can't drink at the bar, you really can't talk to the employees to learn about there products. Finally, this is just a personal thought about people not Kane. I really can't understand why parents of young kids take their children to Wineries and Breweries. When our kids were young we stayed home with them. Now my children are older and my wife and I can go out. To often we go to these places and young parents have there small children with them. I really don't get it. Don't know if I'd go back to Kane because of the sitting area and all the kids that are there. read more

We recently got introduced to Kane IPAs, my boyfriend wound up really enjoying them. I planned a birthday trip in September for us and 10 friends, we did the tour and chilled in the brewery. (This was everyone's first time at a brewery) The tour lasted about 12 mins. One downfall is they don't offer food, nor can you bring any in. More clothing options in the store would be nice such as sweatpants. We love the ambiance tho, we've been back my many times and brought along friends.
