This is what Yelp is for. Finding a place that just opened, was a little out of the way and so good. I was very impressed with this nice little Ramen shop in the Western suburbs. The broth was rich, not watery, very fresh tasting (because they make it right there) and just delicious. Mine had pork and chicken. If you are looking for the meat to be the star, that is not really what ramen is about. It is about the noodles and the broth. The noodles were perfectly cooked and made. Not mushy and maintained a good bite and flavor all the way to the end. As I was finishing up one of the owners stopped by and asked for my opinion of the food and restaurant. Extremely nice and welcoming. Made the already wonderful dinner that much more enjoyable. I will be back! read more

Spent $18 on a huge bowl of....soggy spinach, lettuce, mushrooms, and noodles. What a huge rip-off for ramen. Not coming back for a vegetable soup that much money. read more

What a perfect meal on a cold day. My wife had Premium Tonkotsu Combo (ramen) and loved it. I had Tonkotsu Black Rich Ramen and was over the moon. Our daughter had a few appetizers for her dinner and was ecstatic. The potstickers were terrific but her favorite was the Brussel sprouts (really, a kid who devours Brussel sprouts? They must be good). The flavors for all dishes were indulgent, the varied textures in the ramen was fun. The deeper we dug into the bowls, the better it became. Like a treasure chest. By the way, the portions were generous. Our only negative experience was with the edamame which was a little undercooked. As great as the food was, the waitstaff was equally as impressive. They worked as a team, were attentive and polite. Everyone executed well. We can't wait to go back and order a different ramen. Highly recommend. read more

this is my go to ramen spot. great food, great atmosphere. awesome service. don't get the gyoza tho. read more

Only been here once but the tonkotsu black rich ramen was excellent - probably the closest to authentic "popular" Tokyo ramen (e.g. Ichiran) I've had in the US in terms of broth taste and noodle texture/size. My only complaint was the egg was a bit overcooked. Overall though, wow, I was shocked and happy at how good that ramen was because I've had ramen in many different cities worldwide and to find this in Elmhurst was great. My wife had the umami pork ramen and liked it (different noodles). Potstickers were fine but the spicy tempura shrimp was a bit disappointing (not the right batter type). Service was fine. Will have to try again and sample some of the other ramen. read more

Best japanese food in west suburbs hands down. My kids love Benihana and they all agreed this place is better ! They actually have more than like two ramen options and they all sound amazing- I got the combo tonkotsu pork and chicken it was so good. Also got an iced tea and their tea is richly brewed and refreshing. We ordered the four seasons roll also pictured here that was one of the most beautiful sushi rolls I have ever seen!! They have an extensive smoothie / boba menu and they are so fresh and amazing. I never write reviews but this place is so good I had to come on just to express how amazing it is !!! read more

Don't expect to get your meal in less than one hour after ordering once you sit down. The business is busy filling the Uber eats and take out orders rather than the restaurant orders. So you will sit and wait for your meal. Interesting that the meal delivery people pressure the staff to get their customers what they order but the customers actually in the restaurant get screwed. The owners here mostly really do not care about customers who show up in person. It's just not good enough profit. Meanwhile just around the corner at BNK the service was amazing and the food was great! Go there for a good restaurant experience but avoid Kan Ya. read more

I was super excited to find another ramen place that had am actual vegetarian ramen (i.e. veggie broth and not meat based). But was disappointed. Super bland. I even put in instructions to make extra spicy. I felt like I was just drinking water instead of a vegetable broth. Vegetables just seemed steamed. I don't know about all the meat dishes, but it seems others agree with me in terms of flavour. I did appreciate the broth being in a separate container, but there just wasn't enough of it. Maybe have been better just to keep the vegetables and noodles in the broth so that some flavour could be there. Find another place. read more

Large portions, quick service, and friendly staff. Not quite enough flavor in the broth for me though. Great once you add in the garlic sauce on table. read more

Love the atmosphere here. I dined in on a Thursday evening around 6ish and everything was wonderful.

I have been eating Ramen for a while now. Though each place has a different way of making it, it's hard to boil down to the best ramen I've had. So below is critical information to the reader. Here is the breakdown: Service: 3/5. The waiter wouldn't say anything at times, instead he would make a grunt sound, or just "mm" and walk away. Weird. Otherwise food came out fairly quick. Tonkotsu ramen (Black Rich Ramen): 4/5 Ok not bad. The egg in the soup was a whole egg, not that half egg stuff. Perfectly cooked and soft inside. You will defiantly taste the garlic oil and richness in that soup. It goes in the mouth as mild and then a slight kick as it goes down your throat. Overall good soup but would like to order the other tonkotsu soup to try. Atmosphere: 1/5! You could hear a pin drop in that restaurant! It was so quiet! Everyone was hardcore whispering or chewing and the whole vibe was odd. The solution would be music, as least something to cheer up the place. Overall: No bad for Elmhurst, glad that there is a ramen place here in the burbs, and we don't have to travel as far to the city:) read more

My favorite ramen place to eat around the area. Amazing service and even better food! I love the atmosphere here .

The ramen was outstanding and the sushi plate for $35 had a California roll and I believe 10 pieces of a variety of sushi. It was very fresh and well prepared. I'll be returning. read more

Staff was nice, service was quick, but the food was not good... at all. I ordered the chicken ramen and I can't recommend. I went here based off of reviews but won't be going back. It looked and tasted like they took regular angel hair pasta as their noodle. Honestly reallly disappointed. read more

I went to eat lunch there with my family and found hairs in the fried rice. I told one of the servers and was very disappointed that she did not even acknowledge it or apologize. She just took the rice back and did not even offer to replace it. Very disappointed. I will never go back. read more

Kan Ya - Fried chicken and edamame! - Ramen Near Me - Elmhurst, Illinois

The best raman around! We eat here often and always delicious and great service as well! Highly recommend.

So to summarize this place for me ...don't come here for anything other than the Ramen. True, my spicy pork ramen was tasty and had a rich flavorful broth but the ambience was dark and depressing, the Octopus appetizer and other entrees were wretched, and they axed their sushi menu altogether (to the disappointment of my daughter). I doubt I'll be back. read more

My wife and I were thinking about what to get for the night. First actual day that was representative of Fall weather. What better way to end a chilly night than with some ramen! Mind you there were a few couples in front of us and the owner appeared to be understaffed. We waited a bit to be seated. This place is worth the wait! We ordered Edamame and Takoyaki octopus ball for appetizers. It never disappoints. My wife ordered the Premium Tonkotsu Combo w/ added Spinach and Bamboo shoot. I ordered the Spicy Tonkotsu Shoyu w/ added Bok Choy and extra noodle. The food is always very filling. It's reasonably priced for the portions that you get. The waiter Thomas (going by name on receipt) was very attentive to us and often checked to refill our water. All of this even though the restaurant was short on staff. I also have much appreciation for the owner. She came around to ask about our meals and I saw her do the same to other customers. She also explained her situation being short staffed. She also apologized for the wait time. I appreciated that. If you have not been here, you must check it out. All the negatives that I mentioned are not enough for me to give it a bad review. The food is just really good and staff are great hosts. read more

No flavor in the Raman. Dissatisfied. Add sesame oil, chili oil, ginger...anything to make the dish pop. Rice vegetables were not fresh. Not flavorful Tempura Brussel sprouts were awesome. Service was fast, friendly. read more

Great local place, with the best ramen around. Lots of sushi places in town, but in my opinion it also has the best fresh fish. Have never eaten in, but fast take-out that is ready quickly read more

Oh my Lord, this was one of the tastiest Ramen bowls I have ever had. The broth was creamy and buttery, the pork was soft and delicious, the egg was seasoned and perfectly soft cooked, and finally, the noodles and vegetables were very tender. The aforementioned seasoned egg was so delicious, that I stopped for some soy sauce on the way home and immediately marinated six eggs per some online instructions I've found, to try to get close to the same effect. I already cannot wait to return here and have another bowl, ha ha, but they also have those steamed white buns (pork and veggie filled), which I'm really looking forward to trying the next time! Great, friendly service, nice atmosphere and very tasty little candies provided with your bill. I am really happy this place came to Elmhurst, as the area needs more unique eateries other than just Chipotle and Starbucks. read more

Had a casual date night here with my fiancé a few weeks ago. The yummy ramen was a nice reprieve from the cold December weather. We enjoyed the spicy beef ramen, the garlic ramen, the fried chicken and the sukiyaki. Everything was delicious and plentiful. We left with four to-go boxes of leftovers and enjoyed them for lunch the next day. read more

Coming to Chicago from Florida and running head first into thirty degree weather put me in the mood for hot sake and ramen. Enter Kanya, a really service forward, open kitchen, ramen shop in Elmhurst. The service was friendly and consistent and the open kitchen is fun to watch from the bar seating. The menu is pretty straight forward with a few twists on traditional ramen. I settled on the premium chicken/pork combo and found it enjoyable. It wasn't perfect or super memorable, but it was good and hit the spot. The broth is relatively light and flavorful and the proteins are standouts. The chicken was flavorful and grilled, while the pork was soy marinated and really tender. The vegetables were weak though, and my add-on mushrooms were a total waste of money. I expected some nice asian mushrooms, and instead got 6-8 slices of button mushrooms for $2. I'll tell you what wasn't disappointing: the homemade "ramen sauce" on the counter. Garlic, seaweed, soy and some other little asian goodies made for a really nice addition to the broth. If I was in the area again, I'd give this a shot. Also, it looked like they did a good job with takeout packaging, so this would be a great spot to grab some ramen on the run. read more

My son and I dined here for a late lunch on NY Day--noodles, long life and good luck and all that. I love that their menu has a bunch of different appetizers and different flavors of ramen. I opted for a bbq pork bun first, I found it flavor full and nice bbq pork to bun ratio. But it wasn't very hot, I'd say the bottom of the bun was even colder than room temp. I liked it, but not sure I'd order it again as buns are supp to be nice and toasty hot. The ramen was good. They don't have kids portions--the server suggested we order extra broth and noodles so the side kick could have an extra bowl, which would work, but he alas, he wants chicken, I want pork. But it always works out in the end. He loved the chicken ramen (and wow, not many places have even have chicken as an option) the chicken was very tender and the broth clear and flavorful. I opted for the Tonkotsu Black Ramen--the broth was rich and garlic-y and the pork was tender and flavorful. The noodles were perfect and not overdone, and did not get mushy over time either. Service was friendly. The space is nice, Nicer by the windows where there is more natural light. The rear of the restaurant is kind of set back and dark, but you can watch the steamy bowls of ramen coming out of the kitchen window too. read more

Great new addition to the local Elmhurst fare. I've become sort of a ramen head and have been trying places all over the Chicagoland area. Although there are better in the area, you have to drive a bit to get to any of them. Kan ya makes a very good bowl of ramen and they have many good appetizer choices as well. I've eaten there a few times and have has the garlic lovers tonkatsu ramen. There is nothing wrong with anything I've tried there. The broth is very nice and rich, but a bit thin for my taste. I loved the tempura Brussels sprouts and their fried shrimp with jalapeño were delicious. This is a very nice ramen house very close to where I work. Eating there will give you a solid ramen fix without feeling like you settled for a substandard bowl relative to the top shops in Chicagoland. Prices were on par with most and service was too notch. If you are looking for a good bowl of soup, this is a good choice. read more

I am still on the fence about Kanya. Presentation is really great, but both ramens that I have tried ...Tonkotsu Black Rich Ramen and Tonkotsu Original were okay, but it just seems to be missing something. Mind you .. this is for carry out, so maybe it will taste better if I was there in the restaurant receiving my order hot and fresh? I don't know .. Service has been great when I pickup .. it's just hard in Elmhurst to find parking and there always seems to be someone in the 10 min parking spot that is there longer than 10 minutes... I will update my review when I eat in, but right now it's okay, just not as satisfying as some other ramen restaurants around chicagoland. read more

Kan Ya was A restaurant I was so excited for when I heard It was opening I worked at the chipotle across the street, when it opened I visited 4 times and only one was pleasant ( which was the first time only because we got free desserts and the service was good) since there first week opening they have raised the prices THREE TIMES within a year and a half, shrank the menu ( there used to be be sushi but couldn't hire a chef to make it so they took it off I only know this because a friend worked here ) and quantity sizes are lower. On top of spending 18+ dollars on my meals that weren't even good I came with a vegetarian friend who ordered a entree without the chicken and guess who's entree still came with the chicken she complained about it and the manager gave her a plate and spoon and told her she could fish it out, I couldn't believe the service he provided to resolve a problem they made. That was the last and final time I will be going there. Final thoughts: only thing it has going for it is that it's convenient to where I live for ramen but I will drive the extra 10 minutes for better and cheaper food every time other than that the crispy chicken is good but you only get three small pieces or two medium sized pieces would not recommend for parties over 4 read more

So glad this place came to elmhurst! I spent several years in San Francisco ensuring a solid addiction to ramen before moving home. Since returning to Chicago I have been on an endless hunt to find something that would compare to what I used to get on a bi-weekly basis in San Francisco. Kan Ya fits that criteria to a T. There has yet to be a bowl that I do not enjoy, and the staff is top notch. I love coming here. read more

We moved to Elmhurst from San Francisco two years ago and can't tell you how excited we are that there is a new ramen spot in town. And not only was the ramen good, but it's easily the best Asian food we've had in the Western suburbs. We tried the spicy chicken, premium combo and spicy miso umami ramens - all delicious. The chicken wontons are worth the add! The shrimp fried rice and pork buns were also delicious! Two thumbs up! read more

We are so happy this place opened, definitely a nice new addition to downtown. Since tonight was our first time, we decided to dine in. The ramen is delicious! I had the crispy chicken ramen and added a spiced egg and garlic. My husband had the spicy chicken ramen. Both were very good, and we were only a couple bites in when we looked at each other and agreed to visit again very soon. We tried all of the sauces and can recommend them all - especially the spicy red one and the garlic one! I really wanted to give 5 stars but there was one aspect that I couldn't justify giving the full 5 - and that is price. Dinner for 2 ended up just over $30, but we just had 2 bowls of ramen - no drinks, apps, etc. Don't get me wrong, you definitely get your money's worth (portions are generous), but ramen for $11-$13 a bowl just seems a couple dollars higher than it should be. Regardless, the ramen was great, so I know we will be ordering takeout from here on a regular basis in the future. read more

Phenomenal Ramen place and authentic Chinese dishes. Thank my blessings that Elmhurst finally got a great Asian/Chinese place. This town has Italian, Italian, pizza, Italian...but finally, they got a real West Coast style Ramen place (ala Slurping Turtle in Chicago). Got the chicken wonton ramen and it was phenomenal. Broth is like LA noodle shops. Had the pork Katsu and it's a good potsticker. I was told the chefs trained in LA before opening this shop and being a traveler, it tasted like an LA Chinatown soup/broth. Only issue was apps came during our meal and our kids meal came towards the end of our meal. They'll have to work out kinks in 2 sides of kitchen. I'll give them a break since this past Fri was probably their first major serving in cold weather (what better than soup?). Should be really 4 stars as Service was spotty, but this place has been open 1 week, so some kinks are expected. Will definitely go again! read more

I was very satisfied with my visit here. This is a brand new restaurant... it's nestled into good old downtown Elmhurst, very close to a parking garage. A fellow Yelper took pictures of the menu (thanks!). When I went yesterday with my girlfriend, none of the sushi rolls were available (they were crossed out on the menu). Not sure if they are permanently gone, or temporarily. Either way, no go for the avocado peanut roll, which I was looking forward to. Onto the food... appetizers ordered: Golden Shrimp (grilled, topped with egg yolks... extremely rich, but extremely tasty!), the Kanya Bun (Pork and Veggies in a Bao Bun; Didn't get a bite... girlfriend ate it too quick!), and the seaweed salad, which was good as well (very similar to one you would order at a sushi restaurant). For the main course, girlfriend got the Chicken Ramen. I ordered the Premium Tonkotsu Combo, which was pork and chicken broth, and a bunch of veggies, along with an egg. The egg portions of my meal were so good! They really added a nice element to my dinner. Overall, a very good experience. There's not lots of Ramen places around here, but the quality of the food was top notch, as well as the service. I hope this place is successful, and can't wait to come back. read more

So glad we have a legit ramen place downtown. Came here for lunch with the hubs. We both had the Kanya bun, which was very good. I had the Tonkatsu Spicy Shoyu - super yum! Just the right amount of spice and delicious pork belly! My husband had Tonkatsu Black Rich Ramen - it came with a hard boiled egg, seaweed, pork belly and mushrooms. Looked amazing! We will definitely be back! read more

My whole family loves this place. We have tried most of the ramen options and the do not disappoint! The broths have great flavor and the noodles are always cooked just right. The serving sizes are generous, too, so we almost always have leftovers for tomorrow's lunch. I also tried the teriyaki salmon recently and found that quite good as well if you are not a ramen lover. And who doesn't love mochi for dessert! We have dined in many times and consider it one of our "go to" choices for a quick, affordable and delicious dinner. We were thrilled to see Kan Ya open back up for take out and delivery during the COVID-19 shut down and will do our part to help their business thrive, very much hoping that they will be there for the long haul and when we can dine in again. read more

Amazing delicious and authentic ramen! We love the spicy broth. Also, get the mochi for dessert :)

First off - VERY excited for a local Ramen place! Went here with my wife & son the other day. The staff was friendly and we were seated immeditely. We ordered an appetizer of Tako Yaki, my wife ordered the Premium Tonkatsu Combo, and I ordered the Tonkatsu Spicy Shoyu (medium spice). Everything was delicious and generously portioned. For my son, we asked for another bowl and my wife spooned some of her noodles and soup for him. Next time, I would just order a side of soup & noodles for him - that was what the waitress said most people do for children. I felt that their prices were fair - but if you start adding extra toppings to your noodle bowl things can get expensive. While we were finishing up our lunch, an owner/manager came over to the table and aked how everything was and if we had any suggestions. We asked about the sushi being crossed off the menu, and she said that when they finally got the kitchen organized, setup & running - they realized that they actually didn't have the space to devote to making sushi. She said they may consider serving sushi during the warmer months to supplement possible lower demand of Ramen. I mentioned that with 2 nearby sushi places already in downtown Elmhurst, I would just concentrate on good Ramen. She said that for their broth, they simmer it all day and use something like 7 chickens. Looking forward to our next visit! read more
