I've been eating at McDonalds & Burger King and although it is familiar and enjoyable, I must say at this point of my vacation it's getting old. I stumbled upon Charlie's and had a delicious breakfast. So I went back there again to try more of their menu. My sister's medium boneless ribeye came out more rare than my medium rare and she finally had to settle for ribs! Which were actually edible. Biggest problem was the cutlery! The serrated steak knives were so dull and bent, you couldn't even cut a tender steak if you got one. If you can't even give your customers a decent knife, don't complain when they send back a steak. I give the manager credit for apologizing and doing what she could but Expats beware. If you're craving a good steak, save your $ and go to Wolfgang's. I understand that things are different here in the PI. I'm amazed that there is so much variety among restaurants. But it is not the fault of the locals when the restaurant company gives them cheap tools and products just to cut costs! Bad cooking is something else, though. A horrible experience at a Mesa restaurant actually made my wife go back in the kitchen and show the chef in training how to make adobo! Overall, I love the PI and the local cuisine. I think I'll stick to the chain restaurants that I know for certain are consistent.

Both entrées looked great, but the flavors were milder than expected. The salmon needed salt, the green beans tasted different from what we're used to, and the "dirty rice" was more like sweet fried rice than the Cajun-style version back home. The ribeye and fries also benefited from extra seasoning. Ironically, the mashed potatoes and gravy ended up being the star of the meal and we found ourselves dipping just about everything into the gravy. The sweet tea also missed the mark for us, tasting more like powdered instant tea than the brewed Southern sweet tea we were expecting. That said, the prices are very reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes, making it a great value for families or larger groups. On the sides were two dishes of chopped cheddar and chopped ham! I explained to the waitress how a Denny's ham n cheese omelette was made. She took it back.
