But, I didn't start consistently training at Mana Barbell with Coach Darren Matsumoto until 2019. With that said, if you've been looking for a no-nonsense garage style equipped gym (that is non-global or latest fad-type of gym) where you can train with others (teens to senior age level) who are just as serious with their lifting journey then Mana Barbell should be a gym to consider as the lifting history and knowledge of the owners as well as the lifters speaks volumes on why Mana Barbell is known in the lifting community because they all have competed from state to international levels. When you step into Mana Barbell, you'll find photos along the wall of their members who are also well-known in the powerlifting community as well as their team awards. Mana Barbell also gives back to their community by holding local meets (powerlifting and strongman). If you are still reading this and find yourself interested in training or if you are visiting the islands and want to drop-in, come on down to the gym to speak with someone as there are various training days for powerlifting, strength training and strongman. Usually I see it occupied by someone looking at their phone. My main gripe and what made me come and leave a mediocre review is the showers. 2 of 4 have been down for at least a month and one of the "working" showers is missing a shower head. It seems like things don't get fixed very fast. One month is too long. An ab crunch machine was recently fixed after about a month of being inactive. A cable machine had splayed cables and they put electrical tape on it. It lasted a few days and now that's been down for a week so far. Many times I see paper towel dispensers and spray bottle holders broken or completely empty. Trash cans full. Walls dirty with hand prints. Dirty fans. Rusty walls. Moldy showers with shower rings missing and crusty shower curtains (even though they just replaced the two shower curtains). It all adds up to make me feel like they don't care about the appearance of the place anymore. The staff is fairly nice, but the one woman I saw cleaning machines frequently no longer works there. I think more attention to cleanliness and broken machines and towel dispensers would really make the place level up. Getting rid of unused machines like the big fan bike and angled ab benches, then replacing those with another leg curl machine and maybe a fly machine would be a nice addition too.

Edit to reply: LOL I looked at the crowd meter before I went and after and it had 2 bars. Apparently 2 bars means SUPER CROWDED.

Your first class is free if you DM or email coach Justin. I tried a class for free on a whim thinking there's no way I'm going to drive to town regularly just for a workout. I loved the first class so much that I went once a week for the first month (June). I decided to upgrade to twice a month in July, and saw really good gains in my strength, so for August I'm trying 3 classes a month! There are various classes and schedule times available. Membership packages come in monthly packs of 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, or 24 classes. I'm glad I joined right before the prices went up a bit. The prices are still very reasonable, especially since I was once an Orange Theory member $$$. I stopped going to 24 hour fitness over a year ago because of covid, and it's so packed in there all the time that it would give me anxiety even pre-pandemic. I love that all of the classes are women only (I've only taken one class where one guy showed up other than coach Justin). The only coed class is technically the Biceps and Curls class. I'm excited for more classes to be added on. Classes are generally limited to 8-10 people, with some classes being more full than others. My favorite classes are the Booty Camp and Booty Building classes. They will be moving in a few months to a bigger location. My dream is for there to be a Kapolei location so my lazy self doesn't have to drive to town anymore. They do follow Covid protocols and masks are worn during class with hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes available. Bring a towel!

KA has been spectacular through and through. The school is loving, nurturing, supportive, clean and full of fun activities. My daughter has thrived, with so many great friends and teachers, and so many fun things each day. She loves the play nook, book corner and circle time. Meals are all coordinated from a neighboring restaurant, so the kids eat well and with a healthy variety. They have a "book library" you can borrow from. AND They have parent-accessible cameras so you can check in on your kiddo through the day! We feel so lucky to have been a part of the KA 'Ohana and are so thankful. When I was dropping off my baby so I could head to work, I always knew that she would be loved, well fed, clean and cared for. After over 2.5yrs, they have done and been so much more. In addition to the amazing teachers, the management at KA are incredible. They are hands-on, friendly and accommodating, and truly care about the daycare and the children. When a child is hurt or sick or having a tough day, they will often be found on the laps of Ronna (the owner) or Keesha (the manager), so they can get some extra attention to help ease whatever the issue. We cannot recommend KA enough for your little one! Ps. Tell Keesha I say hi!!

They were all amazing and we especially loved Ms Kimmie and Ms Caitlyn, as well as Ms Keesha and the owner Ronna. We also had some behavioral challenges and greatly appreciated the level of communication, empathy, and willingness to try various approaches and solutions.
