I absolutely love this YMCA! It is because of the staff that really engages with members. They remember your name! Most of the workers are young adults and they are so respectful to all member! They worked and work so hard to keep our place safe. This is the best place to go for exercise and nutritional information. Very Ohana style. You Won't regret it.

So Leeward Y is still awesome on my book. The big change is there is no more free towel service. I was bummed at first, but when you think of the bigger picture, they aren't a corporate gym with billions of dollars backing them up. But, it's no biggie. It's a little more better to bring your own towel and not share germs. Some fab changes have happened! They have a lot of new equipment that came from Central Y. (The sweatbox is here!!!) They also have implemented a LOT more classes, meeting groups and kid programs. (Ballet, choir, Dance etc...) What I really want to give kudos to is the staff. I think we had a THOUSAND questions when we starting a new workout routine which included weights. They are so helpful and knowledgeable. I'm so glad they have people that are there to help you with form and to show you how it's done correctly. I would have hurt myself for sure. So overall, I still enjoy the Y! The staff are super awesome. And if you really want a challenge, take the spinning, TRX or the total body conditioning class. It will kick the fat out of you! Lol!

    Monday-Friday!!! Cardio workout

Who doesn't love the GYM? I've been coming here for years, never put my gym card to dust lol. The staff is awesome, meaning they're friendly with big smiles. They also make conversations time to time which eh that is something good yah when you come in for work out. As of today I am so happy I finally can say I lost my weight that I been struggling for years & I'm so happy with the body I have. Thanks to this gym, thanks for my diets & a big pat on my shoulder for sticking to it. YMCA is the best. Especially Waipahu's one!!! Ps! I figure yelp it. Hopefully more people would join the Y instead UFC or 24 hours fitness. Best decision I made yet.

The YMCA staff here is amazing. They did a lovely job with our students for the SPLASH program that lets elementary students come and take swim lessons for a week. They watch the kids swim and place them in groups to teach them on their level. The kids had a lot of fun, and it was cool to watch them make so much progress in just a week! Some of the kids who couldn't make it 5 feet could then swim across the pool. They also taught the students about pool safety. Some of the instructors were from other YMCAs and come specifically for this program. The staff also entertained the students that needed to wait until it was their turn to swim with chants and Zumba. The staff took care of our kids and made sure the students were safe when an incident with another member occurred. Basically, come here because of the great staff!

    Home sweet home

I really enjoy going to the Leeward YMCA. It is so family oriented and everyone is so friendly. I attend several different classes several times a week and each is unique in its own way. They offer a wide variety of classes with several different schedules depending on the day of the week. The instructors are so awesome. They truly care about their members and their health. I especially enjoys classes that Lindsey's, Chrystal, Jocelyn and Jo offer. These classes are no joke. Be prepared to get you #%*! kicked. These ladies mean business and will bring it every time. I have taken many classes and have enjoyed the pain of every class the Y offers. Their are many classes to choose from depending on your pain tolerance and modifications are offered for those needing low impact moves. The classes are never boring because every week these instructor will mix it up. If you are looking for a gym that you can be yourself, meet great people and train with awesome instructors the Leeward YMCA is the place for you....

Shade covered bleachers so you can watch your little ones swim in comfort.

The layout. equipment placement, and flow of the gym is good. These sessions are need specific to the customer and it convinced me enough that the membership cost was worth the try. It only took me a few sessions to realize that this was something that I wish I had done earlier in my life and that even though I'm getting older, my body has never felt better. I even expanded from 25 minute sessions to 50 minute sessions immediately. My flexologist Jori has been fantastic in taking care of weekly issues I may have and also in creating a long term plan to keep my body prepared for my sessions at hockey. She's friendly and always willing to give great suggestions on even things I can do at home in between sessions. They even let you use their Normatec recovery equipment outside of your sessions at any time, which has been a wonderful perk since that equipment can be incredibly expensive to buy for home use. It's been nice to come to my appointment for a great stretch and just relax while the Normatec equipment can do its thing. I strongly suggest that if this type of personalized care is within your budget that you consider it heavily, especially if you have specific needs or wants with your body. I was so excited when I signed up for 24 Hour Fitness Kapolei. I had recently moved and decided to…read moreswitch from UFC Gym because it was much closer to my new home and significantly more affordable. If you're trying to decide between UFC Gym and 24 Hour Fitness based solely on price, let me tell you, this is your sign to spend just a little extra and choose UFC. My very first experience at 24 Hour Fitness was absolutely terrible. My friend and I, two easygoing women who were genuinely excited to start working out there, were greeted by one of the rudest front desk employees I've ever encountered named napoleon. From the moment we walked in, he acted as though we had done something wrong. His attitude was cold, dismissive, and openly unfriendly and wore his dark large sunglasses indoors which I thought was strange and unprofessional. We were so uncomfortable by the way we were treated that I seriously considered speaking with a manager. What made it even more disappointing is that many women already feel intimidated walking into a gym. It can take a lot of courage to start a fitness journey, especially when you're new, trying to build confidence, or simply stepping outside your comfort zone. Imagine finally working up the courage to walk through those doors only to be met with unprofessional behavior that makes you feel unwelcome and judged. No one should have that experience. The interaction completely ruined the vibe of our workout. We actually cut our session short because we felt so uncomfortable. We left confused, discouraged, and wondering why we were being treated that way. While I can overlook older equipment, I can't overlook an environment where employees seem unhappy, angry, and uninterested in treating members with basic respect. Environment matters. The atmosphere starts the moment someone walks through the front door. At UFC Gym, I never experienced anything remotely close to this. The staff was always professional, friendly, and welcoming. The equipment is newer, the facility feels cleaner, and the overall atmosphere is much more positive. In my opinion, it's worth paying the extra money for an environment where people are willing and able to offer basic customer service and professionalism. Unfortunately, that first experience completely ruined our membership. We ended up letting our year-long memberships expire and chose not to renew. To make matters worse, when we returned another time, we were greeted by the same employee and received the same treatment, which only reinforced our decision. We barely came back after that initial incident because it left such a bad impression. To management: I strongly encourage you to pay closer attention to how your front desk staff interact with members. First impressions matter. Your front desk employees are often the first and last interaction people have with your business, and they set the tone for the entire experience. Someone who consistently makes members feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or judged may not be the best fit for a customer-facing position. A gym should be a place where people feel encouraged, supported, and motivated, not discouraged before they even start their workout.
