What an exceptional attention to detail, my son came from a soccer game and the chef made him a soccer ball of rice! Truly grateful for the kindness. It gave my son a million dollar smile and cheered him up.. the ambiance is so calm, positive, happy and clean. Great tasting food always. Not crazy expensive. Never got sick. Ate several times. Very healthy.

California roll, tempura roll, and a specialty roll that was tempura roll like, with spicy tuna.

It is a clean, inviting restaurant with open doors and the California breeze blowing in. A smiling hostess greeted me, sat me down, and brought some of the best-tasting iced tea I've ever had. The sushi rolls were out in less than 10 minutes and were huge! The rolls weren't over sauced, and were made with fresh ingredients. It's the best sushi I've had in a long time. The man making the sushi was either the manager or owner, and I got the impression that he doesn't tolerate anything less than perfection in service.

First time having sushi in Chula Vista and this place didn't disappoint! Came here on a Tuesday night. It wasn't busy at all. Service was quick and everyone was friendly. The menu selection is large. We ordered the; samurai roll, Philadelphia roll, combination nigiri, and the beef plate for our one year old. We loved everything!! Our favorite roll was the samurai. The food was super tasty and better than I expected. One thing they can work on is putting less rice in the rolls. We felt like some of them had too much rice and less fresh fish. The restaurant is small but quaint. Semi-loud ambiance. They have a few booths and tables. It's family-friendly with high chairs available upon request.

love this little place, super convenient by our house. not a fan of the 3 course and limited to how much but everything is so yummy. Everything comes out fast kudos to the chef

Bottom : Kaiyo special roll and crunchy " Philadelphia " roll- on menu the phili roll does not include crab idk why it was added!

Response to owner's message: First of all - My review was based on what I know I ordered , what I got and what I heard you say so thank you for clarification . I heard you say "spicy tuna" but in your response below you say that you said "spicy crab" because this is what was printed on your ticket to prepare- this explains the CRAB on My roll - but know that I didn't order crab at all - I would never order crab . I understand order was incorrect for me but not for you given that you followed what was printed on ticket . Maybe clients can triple verify order to ensure order is correct before it gets sent to be prepared or add a "spicy crunchy Phili roll " to menu , just a suggestion- I know I repeated my order at-least twice to server . " spicy crunchy Philadelphia roll --- a Philadelphia roll with spicy tuna and crunchies" -- this were my exact words as its not the first time ordering it . Second, - read first of all above Lastly, read second above , Thank you ---///---------/------------------- I been coming here for a while and it is always fresh and delicious except today they messed up my order- I removed the word purposely because Chef saying he didn't do it purposely - I understand. So I thought I heard the chef tell the Server they didn't charge the "spicy tuna " and owner responded to my review stating he said " spicy crab" . Idk maybe he did so i will remove that he "purposely messed up my order" but I do know I did not order crab in my roll. When chef told server I didn't think he was referring to my order because my total included an over charge but it must have been for the "tempura crunchies" smh . Order : " spicy crunchy Philadelphia roll" . I got home opEned the plastic container to a Philadelphia roll with crab ( see pictures) . I am allergic to crab !!!!!! I didn't order anything with crab!!!! - I don't expect to get something I do not pay for but I expect to be informed of changes with my food. - I paid for something I can't eat - crab !

    Salmon skin plate.

I ordered the salmon skin plate and it was awesome! Our server is very attentive and courteous! Ambience is just as closed as being in Japanese hole in a wall restaurant.

Sushi is fresh, and they have great customer service. We were greeted right away when we walked in. We were able to choose our spot to seat and we chose la booth next to the side door in the main dining room. Our host took our drink orders and answered any questions that we had about what beers they had. Nice and courteous host. Our server took our order and was very customer service oriented. We ordered Tongkatsu ramen with side of Salmon Maki roll, 2 Tempura Shrimp Crunchy Rolls, A Spanish Roll, and a California Roll with no cucumber (allergy). We were offered wasabi & ginger and it came to the table as a shared condiment. Sushi was VERY good. Fish was fresh and flavors were all great. The Spanish Roll was DELICIOUS! I wholly enjoyed the cilantro & lemon flavors. We will surely come back! This may be our new sushi place in this area.

Ordered salmon sashimi X3 to go and plated it at home. Fish was fresh and yummy !! I always enjoy eating from this restaurant.

Have to give a big shoutout to our server, Olympia, who always provides exceptional service. I've been here for a few UFC fight nights and the times I've gone, they didn't charge a cover fee which is nice. Onto the food and drinks, I think Novo has the best non-alcoholic Kombuchas in the city and I don't drink alcohol, so I won't comment on that. The food is great quality and tastes delicious but the only complaint (which is why I didn't give 5 stars) is because for the price they charge, the portion is extremely stingy. I'm sure that's not a kitchen thing, but more of management. My favorite is the Mac and cheese with Brazilian sauce served in a cast iron skillet, definitely on the list of best Mac and cheeses. I would recommend you check it out, happy Yelping!

They have a DJ some Saturdays. There are also very cool theme nights. Tonight was "Wing Wednesday". I posted a photo of the theme nights. We got there around 9:20pm & instead of being welcomed, the first thing we were told was that they actually close at 10 cuz it was "slow." That was already frustrating cuz if their hours were updated correctly, we wouldn't have wasted the drive. We left to look for other options next door, but since everything else was closed, we came back literally 3 mins later. From that point on, it was obvious the server was annoyed we came back. The service was disappointing from start to finish. She barely checked on us, never came back to ask how the food was, and my boyfriend had to wave her down just to get a refill. It felt like we were inconveniencing them the entire time. To top it off, when we asked if we could get churros to go since they seemed in a rush to close, we were told no. Even drinks and certain menu items were apparently limited cuz they were trying to shut down early. SMH. The food was okay at best, but the service and overall experience completely ruined it. If your business says you're open until 12, honor those hours or update them. Customers shouldn't feel unwelcome for showing up during your posted business hours. Being slow isn't an excuse for bad service. If customers walking in during POSTED business hours feels like an inconvenience, maybe the hospitality industry isn't the right fit. We won't be coming back at all.

I don't think you could have a really bad view anyway. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. This was the first time my grandson went to a Teppanyaki restaurant. He loved it and it brought joy to our faces to see how much fun he had. The expression of joy, and also how the chef interacted with him, left us laughing. The chef was very entertaining and landed all the tricks. We had so much food we were busting at the seams. I personally had a filet mignon dinner. The steak was done at a perfect medium. The salad was as expected. The noodles, the vegetables and the fried rice were delicious. They were two things I didn't really like that we were given. One was the hibachi soup and the second was the Tokoyaki. The soup tasted like steak seasoning to me and the Takoyaki was too mushy. The only thing us adults were really bummed about was there was no bar there. They did have Japanese beer, sake and wine, but they were mostly bottled or canned. I wasn't in the mood after that for the alcohol so I just chose a Japanese creamy soda that was melon flavored. It was OK. I didn't really care for it too much as well. I expected a more stronger melon taste. For appetizers, we got the crispy calamari. It was done to a light crisp, which made it enjoyable to eat. My grandson got the french fries which was a huge basket for a little kid. He loved it. We had a fun time together as a family, laughing and enjoying each other's company I would definitely go back again, even though they didn't have a bar.
