    Bulgogi Special
    Norma D.

If you're in East Lake area and haven't tried Sushiya, you gotta go. On the weekdays they have a lunch specials that are so good and reasonably priced. My go to is always the bulgogi beef. It comes with a salad with ginger dressing, tempera vegetables, California roll and miso soup (if you're dining in) and your protein of choice. This lunch special has good sized portions and is always good. There's also sushi rolls you can order along with many other Asian choices. If you haven't tried it, you need to. It's one of my all time favorite places to go when I'm in the area.

Sushiya Otay Ranch is a casual sushi spot known for its affordable rolls and friendly service. The menu offers a mix of traditional sushi, sashimi, and creative rolls, along with other Japanese dishes like teriyaki and tempura. Portions are generous and they do have a percentage off their rolls (dine in only) Our server Katherine was on it, she took our order quickly and was very attentive. The ambiance is relaxed, making it a good option for a casual lunch or dinner. but for an easygoing meal with solid sushi options, Sushiya Otay Ranch is worth a visit.

Started with Sapporo on Draft. Mmn Mmn good. Ordered Kalbi Plate, Spicy Tuna Roll and Spicy Yellowfin Roll. Delicious protein for dinner.

Came here late Thursday night, and it was a very slow night as we were one of the couple tables they had. I forgot my servers name but she was friendly, and quick. I've been coming here for maybe 8 years now and The food was absolutely delicious as always! I loved my crunchy roll and the gyoza was so amazing I could literally eat like 3 plates of gyoza alone. The edamame were spicy but great as always. Prices very reasonable.

Disappointing - we come here often and this past weekend I had left my sunglasses and I called them shortly after to let them know and that I would come pick them up and supposedly they didn't have them. Odd.

I just can't give Sushiya 4 stars today. I don't believe they have enough servers, or the server we had was overwhelmed, or both. As a result we didn't like the service. Ambiance was okay, nothing special. The food was okay for the most part. The pickled cucumbers were mushy. The yakisoba with beef had a little burnt flavor. The baked muscle were good. Mamacita enjoyed her salmon plate and seaweed side. The best was the yellowtail carpaccio.

    $11 avocado roll ( 6 pieces. )... :(
    Suzie N.

I haven't been here in a while but I was shocked to look at my $11 avocado roll when I got home - 6 tiny pieces. Sprouts sells 12 piece avocado for $6 ( and they're much bigger and cut/made nicer). Hopefully this isn't their standard bc it was disappointing. This was just an avocado roll...maybe their regular sushi rolls are better.

Eel roll was okay at best.

From service, to price, to quality the experience was mediocre. Definitely will try a different sushi spot in the area to find a place more satisfying.

You know that one friend who's always down for whatever? That's this sushi spot. Not the flashiest, not trying to reinvent the sushi game just a solid, reliable go-to when you need a quick bite before a movie or a low-key lunch that won't break the bank. The sushi? Decent. Fresh enough to keep you coming back, but not so fancy that you feel weird eating it in sweatpants. Service? Friendly, fast, and they somehow always know when you need a refill before you even do. Is this the place for a once-in-a-lifetime omakase experience? No. But is it the place where you can casually destroy a spicy tuna roll, sip on some miso soup, and make it to your next plan feeling fully satisfied? Absolutely. Sometimes, that's all you really need.

05/18/24 party of 6 and a baby. No rsvp needed. We had a 20 min wait time for our party. Ordered Sushiya sampler x2, Sushiya variety x2, sashimi combo x2 , spicy fries, dragon roll, Hawaiian roll, salmon roll, green muscles x2, kids meal teriyaki chicken, beers, green tea and another roll (forgot the name. Indeed 3 star restaurant per Yelp. SD fam wanted to come here and decided to try it out . Sushi and sashimi didn't taste fresh. I think the only thing I loved was their fries. Not too spicy, it was hot and crispy. Place is clean. Staff is friendly. Coming from Vegas, their sushi places are better. Happy eats!!

    Bento Box Salmon Teriyaki $12.95
    Nadiyah S.

The best Bento Box lunch deal in San Diego! For $12.95 I got Teriyaki Salmon (nicely grilled), mixed tempura, California roll, salad and miso soup. Located in Eastlake/Otay Chula Vista near the shopping mall, Sushiya is a great place to grab lunch deals from 11AM-4PM. We also got the Age Dashi Tofu which was delish and had a generous portion, as well as the spicy tuna hand roll. Small tip, if you dine in as opposed to take out you get a discount on your sushi rolls and other items.

First let me start with the customer service, it was great, from the door to getting seated to the waiters checking on us & the cooks smiling & the speed & quality of the service was all great. And the prices are very reasonable, they don't open till 5 tho, for dinner basically, weekends can get busy so get there early. The food was very good, I got the Chula Vita Ramen & I'd get it again, very filling & flavorful. The sushi was very fresh & good & filling as well, Abre La Boca Mucho was our fav roll, it can be shared with another person for sure, Viva Chula Vista was a good roll too. Miso soup was ok & no garlic edamame they have lemon butter edamame, if you like lemon & butter flavor you'll like it, it was ok but it lack a bit of flavor for me. My fav item here was the Jalapeño Popper as an appetizer, 8 pieces & man let me tell you, it was mouth watering & on point, it's a must to start with. Overall I good little spot & we come again for sure, keep up the good work Naruto & see you soon :)

When I first pulled up, I thought the restaurant was closed permanently. I saw a wood plank on the window. No one answered the phone. I walked up and the glass door was slightly open, which indicated the restaurant was open. The inside is not nice at all. Like I said... The space looks really beat up. They have a sushi counter with no counter seating. I ordered the OMG roll and the person helping me at the front said the roll would take about 10 to 15 minutes, so I decided to sit down and order two (2) orders of nigiri while I waited because I was starving. Well, the roll came out in like three (3) minutes (it was just ok) and I hadn't even received the nigiri yet. Then the nigiri arrived, but it wasn't nigiri; it was sashimi. I ordered the fatty salmon and fatty yellowtail. I wish I hadn't. The fish did not taste fresh. Won't be coming here again.

Hmm... After getting a little impatient, I asked if my order was ready and suddenly it was brought out right away, which felt a bit off. To be fair, they did seem pretty busy, but I had placed my order 25 minutes in advance and only ordered one item, so I was expecting a smoother pickup. Though I didn't eat there, the inside was nice with tons of seating. As for the food, I wasn't blown away. The ramen had potential, but it fell a little flat for me. There wasn't much broth, the flavor was pretty mild, and the pork belly actually tasted more like chicken. It was also grilled, which wasn't really my preference for ramen. Overall, not a terrible experience, but not one that stood out either. I might come back to give their sushi a try and see if that changes my mind.

Service was quick, and they checked in often to take additional orders. I'd recommend ordering any baked or fried rolls early in the meal since those seemed to take the longest to come out. My favorite item was the special of the day: spicy garlic tuna carpaccio, served thinly sliced with crunchy garlic oil on top. The kids really enjoyed the udon, edamame, and California rolls, and there are plenty of options for picky eaters. Price-wise, I'd say it's in line with other sushi spots. Our total came to $230 for the five of us (three adults and two kids), which worked out to about $46 per person including drinks. If you come hungry and ready to make the most of the AYCE option, it's worth it. If you're a lighter eater or only stick to one or two types of sushi, they also have a regular menu with individually priced items.
