THE GOOD
The Beer: KT rotates quite a few interesting beers through their taps. I'm not quite sure why they have yet to pour some of the more excellent local brews such as Ale Syndicate or Vice (if it's available) over many of the mediocre beers that they bring in, but overall, the beer is one of the highlights at this place.
The Fries: When this place opened they were just okay.....well, the owners must have listened because they have been getting better and better....some of the better fries you will find in the city.
The Sausage: Excellent, just wonderfully interesting links and nicely paired with flavors that bring out the best in what KT plates.
The Staff: Most of the people who work here genuinely care about your experience. Some of the staff is hit or miss but find me a bar that doesn't have a few bad eggs touting their "I work in a bar, KMA elitist attitude". What I've found is that if you know your restaurant etiquette or are genuinely looking to have a nice night and walk in the door with a smile, the staff will bend over backward to make your experience as pleasant as possible, they tend to give back what they are getting....love it or hate it, you have to respect a place that is honest. You have to remember that some of the people who put reviews on here are genuinely not nice, have terrible taste, or are simply looking to blame someone else for their terrible personality. I have been here enough to see the host (the tiny brunette female) greeting people, clearing tables, running food, taking orders, and bending over backward to make sure that people are attended to. I have seen several of the servers doing the same and giving it their all to make sure that the place maintains a positive energy and rhythm. Then I have seen others walking around all sullen, ignoring people who need help, and completely ignoring guests. Really, if I'm being honest, this place needs some help but not a lot when it comes to the staff. The real fixes need to come in the bad stuff listed below.
The Curling Ring: See if you can find one or something more interesting somewhere else....good luck!
The Upstairs ---- ummmm, when it's open.
THE BAD OR JUST OK
The Salads and the rest of the menu, outside of what I named above are not bad but they're definitely not something to come here for. I put their bacon on this list as well, and yes, blasphemy I know...this is a bacon place, but to me, high-end bacon is well...over-rated and typically bland, so please, if you can get past the ridiculous prices of so much of the food on the menu, try it. Sausage = excellent. Everything else = hard pass, there is much much better elsewhere. I'll give them credit, they've made a couple changes and I have yet to try the wings but I've had a good 5 items off the menu and most is boring or just not good.
The Music: This goes for just about any place in the city that is trying to be something it doesn't have to be. TURN IT DOWN! The tunes are decent but it's hard to say anything is good for a group once the sun goes down when you have to yell just to have a conversation with someone two inches from you.
The Wait --- see what I said about upstairs and know that while you are waiting 1,2,3 hours for a table to become available, the bar is simply trying to maintain the mystique of being busy to stay busy but could easily make you more comfortable and cut into the profit margins slightly just by letting you go upstairs instead of wasting the space.
The summary: Fix the menu and make better more interesting food. Fix the music so people can talk. Fix the wait and open the upstairs instead of making people wait more than an hour. That shouldn't be too tough. read more
