STAY AWAY!!! What was supposed to be a simple window replacement for my 78 year old Mom's car turned into a $1700 brake and rotor replacement. **BACK STORY** I have to help my mom remotely as I live far away, but I do my best. She had her car broken into and needed a window replaced. She was panicked about driving without a window and decided to take it to a shop close to home as opposed to waiting for the mobile company I wanted to hire. Orlando said they could complete it the same day. That was yesterday. She will get her car back today. She sent me a text telling me her charge was going to be around $1700. Considering I was quoted between $250-$300 from multiple shops to replace this window at the comfort of her own home, this number had me shocked to say the least. I had the shop call me directly so I could go over the line items. A slew of other services were added. I told them to stop everything and asked if they had already started the window. They said "yes" and that the window by itself would be $509. Orlando then told me that they had already removed the rear tires, rotors, and pads and since it's already started it they would have to charge $300. So Now her total is at $809. What was the other potential $900 being charged for?? TIRE ROTATION?? It's always the same shady ass game. Now, yes, my Mom confirmed the work order without knowing what was going on. As most do that don't know about auto mechanics, when they are told something is bad on a car that could potentially be dangerous, they want it fixed. I own and run my own automotive business, and simply put, the industry has a bad rep for exactly this reason. Dirty shops going after easy marks. My mom is not rich. She drives a Hyundai Santa Fe. She probably doesn't have enough money to last her for the remainder of her long and healthy life. Is this Orlando's problem, no, but there is a simple ethical scenario here. Don't rip off nice old ladies. If you have a mechanic you know and trust, hold on to them dearly. Just like a good accountant. read more

I sent my young daughter to this place because her check engine light came on while she was driving. She was afraid that something serious was wrong. They told her they couldn't help her unless she paid $110 to look at it. All they had to do was plug in a computer to help a young girl in distress. But they refused to help at all. STAY AWAY. DO NOT COME HERE. my car was overheating so I took it here. They claimed it was the radiator, charged me 500 to replace it (95/hr for labor) and said it'd be done in 2 hours. 4 hours later, they give it back and say its good to go. I make it 3 miles and it is overheating worse than before. He didn't check the thermostat, so I had to get it towed somewhere else and pay them to change that, and I'm lucky I didn't ruin a head. Never go here, even if it's the only place. Pay to have it towed elsewhere. read more

The worst! One star only because there is no way to post review with zero stars! Took brand new honda crv for an oil change. Should have just left when Orlando tried to talk me into a $65 synthetic oil change. Car smelled awful after oil change, as if the exhaust was now inside the car. When I checked under the hood turned out they left the oil cap off!! When I took car back Orlando was a real jerk, said that anything could've happened and maybe I fiddled with it and it fell off. Yeah, right. Beware real asshole this one. Never got my oil cap back or a refund. read more

This information is posted nowhere in their office and the man behind the counter looked very smug at the fact that he had "won". They appear to be scam artists all the way around at this address. They are now (also?) located in Oakland at a 76 station at Broadway and Broadway Terrace. My Yukon miserably failed SMOG (failing three out of four categories) so I took it to this establishment. The expectations I conveyed emphatically and leaving no doubt was that I wanted them to look at the results from my SMOG test and repair what is most likely causing the failure. Angel's recommendation was that a tune-up should first be performed, before anything else. Normally I would agree but the vehicle wasn't running bad, not using much gas. I 'discussed' this with him for ten minutes. He was absolutely positive that this would fix the problem. $400 later, a repeat SMOG result and I was pissed. I knew the only thing left to do is replace the catalytic converter. Did that and $400 later, it passed cleaner than the lowest emitting average vehicle. I go back to them, this time the manager is there (Pedro Daniel). I explained to him why I was upset.: His mechanic was incapable, at the least, of performing the diagnostic I requested. Pedro told me that all you have to do is tap in the catalytic converter to listen for loose baffles, completely empty, etc. He didn't understand why this wasn't done but offered no refund to even the labor performed. Some people don't get it. In business it's all about trust. If you earn the trust of your customers, no matter the business, you can't help but succeed. Conversely, you screw people over, you have to keep getting new business because there are no repeats., Getting new customers is much harder. Especially when you have something like Yelp. My first regret was not looking this place up on Yelp before hand. Never , ever going back. That's a shame because they were close and I have a lot of work I want done on my Yukon. read more

I guess all of these other folks have had a rough time with this shop, I had quite the opposite. Drove all around WC on a Saturday, 3 shops couldn't take my car. All I needed was a quick tune-up/oil change for my Jeep. Pulled into their shop and was helped right away. They were super quick and even found that my rear brake pads needed replacing and were able to get the part for it within an hour (and kept me posted through the afternoon on the status of my car). This may be a little shop but these guys worked hard and were extremely professional that day. Very happy I went there and will be returning for my next tune-up. read more

I had a similarly dissatisfying experience to the previous poster, though his experience was worse. This occurred at their Oakland location. I went in for a simple, extremely inexpensive oil change in my new used car to start off fresh with it, and they did the five point "complimentary" inspection. Pulled off the tires to check the brakes, and showed me how low they were. Gave me a $200 estimate for a brake job (just the brakes, nothing else) when there was a current sale coupon at the register which wasn't pointed out to me. The coupon said brakes were $89.95 per axle, which should come out to less than $200 plus tax. Now, I did see the brakes and I recognize that they were very low. But they know what that means -- two weeks? two days? really no time at all left on them? -- and I don't. But I explained that I had very little money at the time and really needed to not have the brakes done for another two weeks if possible, and they hemmed and hawed to "help" me understand that it was really dicey. When I left, I paid over $350. And all they did was change the brakes, not the calipers, etc. It hurt, but I wrote it off in my head as better than needing new rotors &/or drums. And went to someone else to change a few other things (I believe in spreading the wealth). I wouldn't go back to them for work again. Too expensive. Their $15 oil change is just a lure. Now, here's what happened the next time I went. I spent 20 minutes in the lot waiting to ask a question: which grade of oil did you put in my car? (It was a 1/2 quart down after a month, which is really good for an old car, and I just wanted to top it off.) Really, that was all I wanted to know. In order to avoid what did happen next, was going to go to Kragen to buy the oil, and get home quickly. The mechanic offered to top it off. That was nice. So he had me pull into the garage. Honestly, that wasn't necessary. And he did top it off. Next thing you know, he had it on the lift, looking for a leak. Which theoretically he would have found during the first inspection a month earlier. And lo and behold, he found a leak. Next thing you know, he's looking up the labor on that job, which was to change the oil pan gasket. That small job wasn't in the computer data base, but the next one which involved removing the oil pan gasket took three and a half hours. So whatever the oil pan gasket job would take would sound good. Remember, I just wanted to ask a very quick question, what type of oil he'd put in. This process took me at least 45 minutes. The first time, a month ago, I welcomed an assessment, not knowing enough about this car, or the shop. But I left paying $350+ when I came in for a $15 oil change. The second time, he was milking me, stalling me, looking for work. The stall was obvious. I will not be back. This shop will never touch a car of mine again. And the thing is, when I find a business or service that's great, I tell everyone about it, and bring in a lot of business for them. But these people are relentless -- they get you for a lot the first time you come in, and why would you want to go back? -- and that's not how you build a neighborhood-based business. read more

My car was not starting at all on Christmas Eve and my dad really wanted to bring it to a shop asap. I really wanted to just wait until after Christmas and bring it to another shop in Walnut Creek who specialized in Mini Coopers. My car was in the shop for about a week and they always called to update me on repairs or anything they found was wrong with my car. That's the one star I gave them. When we picked up the car today, my dad noticed a HUGE windshield crack, about 6-7 inches. We left the car with no cracks on the windshield at all. We asked them if they noticed it while they were repairing it and test driving it and they said no. Kind of surprising since the car was under their watch the whole time. I really don't know what happened, but I wish they kept a good eye on my car. After paying $1000+ for repairs, I have to get my windshield repaired now too. read more

This Auto Care shop is very concerned about my safety.  They called the POLICE because I need 2 new tires for my safety. Here is my experience. I went in for the $20.00 oil change.  They inspected my car and told me that one of the cord and control arm bushing is broken and I need two new tires.  They offered me 2 new tires for $98 each plus labor. The original price for each tire was $119 -- they gave me a discount of $20 each. But they did not even mention about fixing the broken cord and control arm bushing. (I don't know what that is).  I declined and told them I will replace the tires later.   Surprisingly, they called the Police without telling me, because only after the Police showed up they told me they had to call the police for my safely. The Police officer told me that the "Auto Mechanic" said my car is not safe to drive and I need 2 new tires.  I asked the police officer for his opinion.  He said cannot give me an opinion since he is not an Auto Mechanic. Luckily I am AAA member.  So, I have my car towed to Wheel Work for free. The auto mechanic at Wheel Work told me the cord and control arm bushing is fine - not broken.   One of the tire can blow up in any minutes because some metal wiring is showing.  They advised me to change all 4 tires.  I never had a tire blown up before. Well, Wheel Work is another story. I think if I had replaced the 2 new tires in the first place, it would had avoided the police involvement and saved my whole afternoon. read more

Yea the $20.00 oil change is a great hook for these guys. Over the past year I took my truck for 4 oil changes, I drive a lot miles for my job and need to take advantage of any savings I can, first time I was there they changed oil and wanted to sell me new ball joints which I don't need but these up sell techniques are used by a lot of shops big and small so I didn't care. Second time there they tried to sell me tires which I didn't' t need and this guy was kinda high pressure and arrogant when I said NO tires today,...just change the oil all right? Third time I'm there for 30-40 minutes before the guy would talk to me, nobody else was there and the guy took his sweet time and didn't attempt to care about getting my paperwork going in a reasonable and timely manner that would resemble customer service. Maybe he was having a bad day but the fourth and last time I went to these guys was just lame. I show up first thing in the morning and the guy tells me that they are to busy that day to do oil changes. There were NO other customers and I left and did come back the next day and the guy was ALL bad attitude and I just told myself that this will be the last time. I pick up my truck later that day and I'm driving for a few miles and I smell burning oil so I pull over and open the hood and see the oil cap was sitting on the cylinder head NOT screwed in! Nice, oil all over the engine and this could have been a lot worse and I think he was high or he did it on purpose. I think they learned their service skills from a drug cartel, I work in a retail customer service/ focused industry and it realllly has to bad for me to write a bad review. No stars can be done here but that's what they deserve. Don't go there. read more

My car was overheating and I took it here to find out why it was overheating. First time, they told me my water pump is leaking. Second time they told me I need a new radiator. I spent over 1400 dollars here and my car is still over heating. I took my car to another mechanic and the overheating is fixed now. Also, be careful with this place they charge almost 50% mark up on parts. They told me it would be $160 for a 1997 Honda Civic radiator. I called AutoZone and I got it for 90 bucks. I had my brakes changed by Kaiser Auto Care approximately two months ago. Today I brought my vehicle into another tire/brake shop and found out that my brake pads had cracked. I was told that the only reason this would happen was if the mechanic who changed my brakes did not machine the rotors which is standard procedure for most shops. I called Kaiser back to see if they had done that, and they replied that they simply did not do that. I later found out that not only did Kaiser not machine my rotors, but they had installed the WRONG PADS! Worst shop I've ever had experience with and could have killed me and my girlfriend while we were on the road. If you care about good service and your safety while on the road, do not go to Kaiser to get your car fixed. read more

Wow. I'm surprised at all the 1-star reviews. My experience was only positive. After two years in our new place, we finally got around to looking for a place for car service that isn't across town by our old place. Just had an oil change, but will definitely be back in the future. No problem scheduling or dropping off, and when I picked up the car, Orlando (the owner) is telling me about what he checked, mentioned that it all looked good, and added that we keep the car in good shape. What does this say to me? He's not playing games, and appreciates things done well. No question I'll be back. read more

Orlando was professional and sincere... I brought my car is for an oil change, which he had it done within the hour as promised... When I came back to pick up the car, he informed me that the front tires are worn and need to be replaced... I was well aware that the front tires had to be replaced and he offered me a good price and it also saved me a trip to another place to have it done, so I'm glad that he mentioned it... They don't do wheel alignment service there, so he recommended me to a place for the service... Overall, I am very happy with my experience with Orlando... :) read more

I feel like I am rocking the boat at 2 stars. But I have been about 5 times and twice was happy enough. Last 2 times the guy has told me I need new tires. They have some wear but not near enough to replace and suprise they just happen to sell times.... Last visit I got there cheap oil change and they added 6 dollars (nothing to lose sleep over) but their 2 signs clearly say $15.70 plus $3 disposale fee but he also argued with me about it? Really Jose? And this was after I had to wait for him to come back because the other employee couldn't "give me the stated price" I was charged $20 to put in a headlight bulb, a whole 8 seconds it took, and I brought a coupon in for x amount on a list of services on my car another time but was told my car didn't fit into that price AFTER the car of course was worked on. What exotic car do I drive? Drumroll.... A Honda Civic. Clearly these are in the more hard to work on, high performance category. A couple times they were honest and nice enough but it's clear they are looking to cut corners and bend anyone over they can. I have asked them the past couple oil changes to take a look at the power steering because it is making that annoying noise only the power steering mechanisim can make but it still is not fixed or even glanced at. I don't put up with the auto care BS stuff from past bad experiences so I don't get screwed over like some do but you are much better off somewhere else unless you go for their typically 45-1hr cheap oil change and confirm the price up from and don't let them play with you. read more

You know those stories about mechanics charging you for things you don't need? Well, unfortunately, this is one of those places. A couple lights came on in my car and before I took it in, I looked up what it could be on the internet. I knew beforehand that one of my belts was going to need replacing and when the lights came on, the internet search re-affirmed this to be the problem. The mechanic didn't know I had already done my research and tried to tell me that I had 3 belts that needed replacing...gave me a quote of $350. When I told him that it looked like it was only one belt and which one was broken, he stumbled on his words and said something about checking it out, again, then said, "oh, ok." Then went back and re-calculated for half of what he originally quoted. I asked him why he told me something different to begin with and he couldn't give me an answer. I'm pretty sure he still overcharged me for the one belt, but I needed it replaced, since it completely broke and was missing. DO NOT TRUST THIS SHOP! read more

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! False advertisement, rude, and are not willing to help. That's been my first and last experience when i went there to request an oil change. They advertise that they would provide free shuttle for customers, but they were not willing to do it and suggested that i hang out in the parking lot for 3 hrs. READ ALL THE PRIOR COMMENTS WITH ONE STAR-THEY ARE ALL TRUE!! DON'T STEP FOOT NEAR THIS PLACE! I took my car in for an oil change because I work for Kaiser Hospital right next door. I dropped my car off and an hour later I receive a call that my Serpantine belt is so "cracked that it could break at any moment and needs to be replaced". I of course, had it replaced and when I went to pick up the car I asked to see the belt. Orlando looked a little surprised. When he showed it to me I couldn't see ANY cracks. Did I need a magnifying glass to see them? Also, I asked him to tighten the gear shift handle on my automatic shifter because it was slightly loose. His "mechanic" couldn't see the screw to tighten it (I was standing right there) and ended up loosening it which resulted in me not being able to get it out of park when I went to the bank right after picking it up from Kaiser Auto Care. It took me 10 minutes to get the car out of "park". Orlando said to bring it in the next morning and he would tighten it up. He called me a few hours later to tell me that I needed a diagnostic test to see what the problem was and he thought it was a sensory problem. SERIOUSLY? I took my car in for an oil change and $150 later with a new Serpentine belt, which I bet I didn't need, I now have a NEW problem that HIS mechanic caused and Orlando is STILL trying to milk me for a diagnostic test, parts, labor, etc...REALLY?? I told him not to touch the car and that I was coming to get it. I let him know exactly what I thought of him, his arrogant, smart ass attitude, and his operation. He just smirked. i broke down on 680 north in rush hour trafic. used my gps to locate a shop close by, and it took less t5han 10 minutes for orlando; the owner of kaiser auto care to arrive and load my 2008 bmw m5 on to the flatbed. the car was loaded using care, and the proper bumper hooks keeping with bmw recomendation to insure no damage to sport tuned suspension. once the car was at the shop they found the problem within minutes;fuel pump, and literally had me back on thew road before trafic had cleared. in the past when i brought my m5 in for service the bill was almost always $2.500.00. not this time. with the tow, a new fuel pump, oil change using full synthetic oil as required, and the labor cost i wasw suprised to get out of there for $600.00. i went home to write this review, and it is apparent that only angry people write reviews. i have found the service facility that i will continue to use. thank you orlando for being there for me, and having a friendly crew of performance mechanics. you're the best. read more
