Simplicity Patterns I purchased for $1 each

As you walk into the store, you can see the large selection of fabrics: cottons, knits, Hawaiian, Japanese, solids, and prints. You will find sewing/embroidery thread, sewing/quilting notions, sewing/quilting patterns, ribbon, stabilizer, buttons, bias tape, remnants, fat quarters/bundles, jelly rolls, sewing/embroidery machines(Janome, Juki, & Baby Lock). Staff was kind, helpful, and informative; excitedly making suggestions about fabrics & embroidery classes. I highly suggest calling ahead of time to see if there are any deals - I was able to take advantage of a deal for 30% on certain fabrics(1 yard minimum). Prices for the fabrics were a little pricier, ranging between $9-17. Do note they have a sales table of discounted fabrics.

My 12 yr old son had been working on a school project for a few months. We came into the store multiple times to purchase his choice of fabrics and thread. Everyone who assisted him was friendly, attentive, and interested in how his sewing of the pillowcases was going. He was very comfortable each time we visited the store and found everything he needed there. Kaimuki Dry Goods is definitely our go-to store for all our sewing needs on the island!

Masks I make w/their fabric. They are for sale on my Etsy shop, link is in my profile if you want some! :)

Right now they are open from 12-4pm and are closed Sunday's. They only let in 10 people at a time so you will probably have to take a number and wait to be called in. Mind you, at 4pm they let everyone in who is still waiting outside! At the same time! So there was a flood of people (hard to social distance) but the staff did as much as they could to keep it under control. They are all really nice people! Anyways. They have a pretty big and unique fabric selection. I was able to buy super cute fabric for masks and a lot of prints for the back side of my masks to match the front prints I had. I seen so many customers asking the staff, where's this? Where's that? If they just took the time to look around they could easily find it themselves. It's obvious the workers are all super busy cutting fabric and ringing people up...so some self help would be nice. Tip: look behind the cutting tables for some of the best fabric! They don't have time to put all the bolts away after each customer, so good prints get stacked up until they go back. I found a few good hidden ones there :) I went twice to fill my masks making needs lol.

04/05/20 Kaimuki dry good is closed on Sunday. Please be nice. Don't call. Phone goes to voicemail. These ladies are working their butt off without breaks. 04/02/20 At this extremely difficult times Kaimuki Dry Good has stayed open to help people with their fabric needs. They adjusted their hours. They are open only from noon-5 pm. When u go, be sure to wear a mask. Keep the "social distancing" in mind and be polite. There are only 3 associates so be patient.they are a very long time business in Kaimuki. Everyone, please take c With so few dry goods store left, I hope Kaimuki Dry Goods stays in business! I have been going there for decades, at leave 50+ years! As a young girl I took sewing lessons there. Love the local ownership and the fantastic selection of fabrics. The staff is very knowledgeable and willing to suggestions. What's great is their selection of fabric ranges from simple cottons (all kinds of prints and solids) to beautiful Japanese fabrics and glamorous lace! Lots of craft ideas, buttons, thread, zippers and sewing tools. Parking is really easy and FREE! It is worth your time to find them on 10th Avenue between Harding and Waialae Avenue...nite that 19th Avenue is one way so you have to access 10th Ave via Harding Ave. as soon as you see the playground, turn left into the parking lot. Happy Sewing!

A fantastic selection of fabrics difficult to get in the mainland. I think I came home with 12 yards of fabric.

I happened to park right across the street from Calico Cat... in a metered street parking stall. Carol is the cheerful owner. She saw that I was confused because Every Day Better by Green Meadows is next door to Calico Cat. Carol explained the sign above that shows the name of the shop closest to each shop - depending on which way you face the sign. Ahhh... Calico Cat was described by their neighbor (Every Day Better by Green Meadows) as having fabric "eye candy". LOL! Yes - if you sew, you know that these bolts of material are very beautiful, whimsical, and unique! They are very inspirational and made me want to sew! Of course, I purchased a lot of material... thinking that Christmas is coming... I need to get a head start! Remember to get a Loyalty Card. They were fast and reliable and I was able to pick up my order the next day. I purchased four fabric face masks from Casual Hawaii that were very well-made. I was told that the thread count was 186 to 205 when doctors are recommending 180 or more. I found that in addition to face masks, they also make aloha shirts, ladies dresses, and much more. Our minds were set to look for a Hawaiian baby blanket or unique fashion accessory for the mother-to-be as the parents-to-be live on the Mainland. We excitedly browsed the store looking at traditional and modern quilt designs and expected that we'd probably end up spending no less than $100 (even with advertised 20% discount) as these quilts are beautifully handmade. Unfortunately, when we asked one of the saleswomen to direct us to their section for baby blankets, she kindly replied they didn't have any and the particular size quilt that I had picked turned out to be meant for wall-hanging. LOL... eh, I should have realized what those hanging tabs on one end of the quilt were for but the size looked "right" for a baby. She nicely directed us to another Hawaiian quilt store located on the opposite side of the Ala Moana Center while telling us that other store would probably have baby blankets and more fashion accessories, in other words, more souvenirs and functional products rather than artwork. Sorry, that we didn't buy anything from this store but they do have beautiful, handmade and one-of-a-kind Hawaiian quilts that represent this art form. They also offer quilting classes if you're interested in learning to make your own.
