Alden talked me down off the ledge, was so helpful and generous with his time, and provided great service once I was in the store (all while finding me the exact floating candle I needed, phew!). Super crowded with all kinds of stuff in such a small place. Sort of overwhelming when you are looking for something specific but don't know where to begin. Service is ok. They don't say anything to you when you come in but I guess that how. Kind of expensive but I guess it depends what u r looking for. read more

I was surprised to see they moved but thanks to Google maps I found them. The store is smaller and the aisles are kind of small but they have an amazing assortment of supplies. I am not handy at crafts but it's inspiring to look at everything. I like their raffia and also some paper bags with more of a Hawaiian print. Didn't know Floradec moved from their old location on Nimitz Hwy next door to West Marine . Now their new location is on Halekuwila it used to be a Christian book store . They also took another office next door so now they have the whole downstairs of the building. Their old location is still way bigger because it was a wharehouse so they have down size a lot . My wife and I was looking and getting ideas for our family Christmas Party coming up . The funny thing is both of us are not crafty people lol . Shopping with mom in Honolulu, Hawaii... When mom says something twice, I know it's important. Last week, she mentioned that she was running out of green twine, which she uses for the backings of Lei po'o (flower garlands placed on the head). At that time, I figured that she was just thinking aloud because - when I asked her if she wanted to get some, she replied that she was too tired to go shopping. Today, she said she needed green cord, so I asked her if she was ready to go to Flora-Dec... and she was! Flora-Dec used to be located on Nimitz Highway. I've been there with her in the past. Now, the store is located on Halekauwila Street. It's a much nicer environment - cleaner, brighter, and less cluttered... and air-conditioned! They have everything you need for floral arranging, craft ideas, art/school projects, and party decorations such as coordinating napkins, balloons, utensils, and more! There were aisles sorted by themes (examples: patriotic, Hawaiian, children's, graduation, etc.). Some items were grouped in areas: Christmas, artificial flowers, ribbons... It was an amazing, organized assortment of supplies. If I need anything, I'll come back! Note: mom found her green twine... and also some u-shaped pins for wreath making! My wife used drag me to FloraDec Sales over the years and I have grown fond of this store after exploring for so many years. I needed quite a few gift bags and found prices in the $3-$4 range for one bag in other stores. Then I thought of FloraDec and saw that they are now located at Halekauwila St. I entered the store and was immediately greeted and asked if I needed assistance. They pointed me in the right direction and I found what I was looking for. The gift bags I was looking for was sold by the dozen and after my senior discount I paid less than $12 for a dozen. I was in search of wide satin ribbon for weeks ahead of my oldest's graduation from WSU and FloraDec had the right size in the right colors! It's my favorite haku this season Its more expensive here but sometimes you have to pay to play. I just happened upon the leaf ribbon and the creative hamster began to turn the wheel. Super happy with the result! It also comes in a yellow/green color that mimics Song of India, as well as gold and rose gold with green I always seem to find exactly what I need here that no other craft/big box store carries. read more

A day before the wedding, our Bride's amazon order for candle holders for taper and votive fell through. After a series of stops to all stores, we had finally came down to this wonderful store before they closed (20minutes prior). We called prior before coming and the staff supported in collecting all 90 different type of candles. Despite all efforts of wrapping and checking every single candle holder we needed. We were this close to buying it all, however, the bride had given us different instructions to buy only half. Now located in Kakaako their new location. Parking is a bit less parking space then other location, but the inside still they carry anything you need to decorate your home with the Christmas cheers and they also carry items for decor for weddings, parties and flavors. During COVID we needed supplies for a graduation drive by. This place always have things we are looking for and then some. I literally could hang out in this place pursuing each aisle to see if I could use that with the craft project I was working on. So many themes, so many different colors of ribbons and beads to make the lei we needed. I seriously believe FloraDec really keeps up with the times and anticipate what people want. I came here to look for items to create centerpieces for my son's wedding, and the moment I walked into the store the security guard (Japanese) gave me a disgusted look. As I browsed the items through each aisle I noticed that the same guard kept watching me. I couldn't decide what to come up with, so I went back to the first aisle to go and look at the items again. As I passed the cashier's line to go back to that first aisle I saw the same security guard approaching me, then a salesperson intervened (used his hand to stop the guard), asked me what I was looking for, then insisted on following him to the artificial flower section. He rushed me through ideas, but I wanted to take my time to come up with a piece that matched our theme. Feeling extremely uncomfortable, with the rush & laser focused attention from the guard, I left. I felt like I was being racially profiled because of what I looked like. This is an updated post on Flora Dec - April 16, 2021. I heard and then googled that Flora Dec moved and found them on Halekauwila Street. Please make sure you are aware of Flora Decs new location in Kakaako. A word of advice. Dont be speeding down Halekauwila St because if you speed, you will miss Flora Dec. it's somehow tucked in a corner of a building with few parking stalls. There is a Flora Dec sign, but this new location is down sized from their former location. When I walked in the "store", it seems like they just moved, or recently moved as their silver racks of shelves were all empty, and that's all you see when you walk in. Silver shelves. Just browse thru the store to find what you need like hunting for Easter eggs! LOL! And all the grumpy people with their great customer service are back at this store. I just came to grab a roll of cellophane. But no hello, good bye or thank you for shopping. read more

They still got some Christmas stuff, even at the earliest before the Christmas season. It hasn't changed, most of their good quality items that are well put together like Christmas trees/wreaths already decorated with ornaments is on the far right when you enter Floradec. This place was my goto shop when I had to plan and organize a Christmas party one year and I loved it, it's where I got most of the stuff I needed. They have a bit better quality stuff compared to other arts and crafts chains, and most stuff is individual that you have to put together yourself. I'd prefer to shop here than a BF store, but that's just me. They don't have as many Christmas lights out yet though or even Blown up items that you could put on your lawn. It's a huge warehouse and I like the spaciousness. There's not much arts and crafts stores on island in Hawaii where you can find good stuff, it's not like the mainland where they have Kirkland or Hobby Lobby or more other mom and pop craft stores. Although the "new" location in Kakaako is so much smaller than the original one, I managed to find everything I needed here. The staff are so helpful. Last visit I picked up more lei needles. Coming here was the most productive thing I did all day. Initially I came here just to look at glass vases. I'm planning a wedding and looking for things to DYI for centerpieces. Coming here made me realize that I may very well make every event for the rest of my life, DIY. They have literally everything you need for crafting, party planning, and most especially, well, for this time of the year Christmas. If you can't find it at walmart or target, I'm pretty sure you will find it here. Periodically there are sales going on, for select items. I will say that looking at the regular prices, it can be a little pricey, but this is a specialty store. The business has two sides..one is more for indoor crafts and the other more for outside I guess. I haven't gone into a FloraDec since the start of all the shut downs and didn't realize how FloraDec also are affected by the slow shipment of supplies to hawaii, also the amount of people that are trying to keep them selves or the family busy with crafting projects at home or work while we all endure together during the times of solitude. FloraDec employees were friendly and courteous but they didn't have a lot of things that I needed for my projects that I'm doing. They had a small selection for airbrush supplies, and no large size hard core foam for the bigger projects. But they did have everything else to start home decorating, art, painting, decorative Plants etc. I would still recommend this place, just not for my type of projects. read more

Smaller new location given the property space. Always loved their selection but they arent the nicest there. I walked by 6 different workers who didnt even say hi or acknowledge me butbthey acknowledged every kupuna aged person that walked by (i went during the day 1:15ish). They werent busy at all.
