The sushi rice has a good amount of flavor which you don't always find, too many places just use plain rice with no vinegar flavor. Went out with my mum, we both work in food service so we understand being slow when packed, but that wasn't the case, two tables of couples were already sitting when we got there, took 7 minutes for them to sit us (4 people were working) and then sat down with our menus and we didn't receive any water or recognition from two servers, 15 minutes we sat there not one of them came to give us water or take orders, not packed. Just busy with online orders. Clearly this business takes priority for online orders more then their in person customers. read more

Not family friendly. An employee angrily stormed up to our table and asked for the plastic cup my 1 year old was playing with because she was "Annoying the crap out of everybody". We weren't approached prior to this interaction or asked to keep it down so this was surprising. I asked to speak with the manager and was told that this person was the manager. I try to give people the benefit for the doubt, maybe he was having a bad day. But this was wildly inappropriate. In fact, I don't think I have ever been treated so rudely by a restaurant worker, owner or otherwise. We purposefully went here (frequently) during pandemic lockdown to support this small business and help keep it open. I regret that patronage now. I haven't eaten here since this happened and will never bring my family or friends here ever again. read more

2nd visit- 1st since COVID so I've been very nervous to order take out sushi. My spouse picked it up and drove it home to me thru traffic, took about 30 minutes. I put it in the freezer for about 5 minutes, ate it and it was delicious!!! (Thank goodness!! Always a crapshoot) Kai Roll, sockeye salmon sashimi, salmon egg sushi, It was packaged great, pretty and fresh so glad I got it!! Sushi is my dead man walking meal if I had to choose one... it didn't disappoint! It's been a rough few months, glad I can resume at least this part of my life!! Very good taste, portions, and service. We went around 6PM last Saturday. Parked on Colby about a block or so away. There were a few open tables and 1 or 2 booths. We were greeted and welcomed almost immediately. They have an extensive sushi menu, almost too many options. I had the spicy tuna roll and it was fresh and delicious. Service was timely and our server was attentive. The pricing was very reasonable around $8-$12 per roll. Our family of 4 spent around $45 for the meal plus a tip. Everyone was pleased with the entire experience and food, highly recommend. Note: we haven't been to downtown Everett in a while. Much of the Hewitt corridor and most of the Colby strip have been cleaned up nicely by the City. Sidewalks are newer and clean with plantings and fancy garbage bins, ample free parking, thriving business everywhere, and even a beat cop or two walking the streets and talking to folks. There's a really good vibe down there now, family friendly, we felt comfortable and safe walking around all over. Nice job Everett, at least its a positive start. We'll return downtown in the future and spend more money. read more

If you order Togo make sure you ask for chop sticks or any utensils you may need because "it's the customers responsibility to ask for them" these words came from the hosts mouth herself. She was super disrespectful and honestly I don't feel it necessary to ask for chop sticks when ordering 4 sushi rolls. I got home and didn't have the utensils or the correct order and the lady at the front desk when I called just irritated me with her disrespect. I won't go back even if their food is good because of her attitude. I spent more than 70$ on food, they couldn't even throw in a pair of chopsticks, and I got an argumentative response when calling to ask about it. Sushi was okay. Great sushi in Everett? For reals, y'all. The reviews on Yelp don't lie. Ample selection of traditional and speciality rolls, fresh sushi & sashimi choices, quick service. Can't go wrong with that. I came here with my 11 year old so he stuck to the udon (soup), gyoza and then the fried ice cream. I ordered a sushi sampler with the usual (shrimp, tuna, mackerel, etc) which was great - fish was all fresh, rice was nicely packed. I also ordered the "heart attack roll" - which was spicy tuna, cream cheese & avocado with a deep fried exterior and eel sauce - see my picture attached to this review. It was amazing, and the deep-frying didn't ruin the taste of what's inside the roll at all. I'm sure that's giving the purists a heart attack (see what I did there?) but I'd definitely order it again. In fact the list of rolls is almost overwhelming. This isn't Nobu or one of those places that imports the sushi chef straight from Osaka, but it's absolutely worth the 5-stars for a sushi place for a casual night out before a show or just in general. read more

I've heard of Kai, but haven't had the chance to dine here until fairly recently. The restaurant is small, but clean. Service was friendly and prompt. We came in for a late lunch so we ordered sushi (Rainbow and Eel); Fried Calamari; Tako Yaki (Japanese style pancake balls with octopus); Chicken Karaage and Agedashi Tofu. Sushi was good, calamari - nicely battered and crispy. We've had better Chicken Karaage and Tako Yaki elsewhere, but the tofu was good. We'll come in again to try other menu items. read more

I was very disappointed with this place. It says that they close at 9pm, I showed up at 8:40pm and was told they are not taking anymore customers for dine in. I asked if I could place an order to go. The waitress said let me see, went into the back and said they are not taking any additional orders. Please change your posted hours of business on Yelp, as well as on your door if you are not going to serve customers after a certain time. I could have chosen another restaurant and already eaten. We have been going to Kai for awhile now, and I cannot recommend this place enough. We have been here quite a few times, and I have NEVER had a bad experience or a complaint here, they do such a great job. The restaurant's atmosphere is nice and is always extremely clean. The service is always phenomenal, better than most restaurants, and I frankly cannot recall a single time the service has been bad. The service is always very fast, and never intrusive. The food - phenomenal. OH YES! So much yes. Welcome to Everett! I love this place. Tucked away on busy Colby Avenue, right by an organic salad deli (The Valley), a donut and macaron shop (Frost), Major League Pizza and El Paraiso is a new, yummy, clean and tasty sushi restaurant. Talk about a great little strip! The other reviews are spot on- this place is bright, open, and really clean. When you first walk in, all of the staff members in the front greet you right away. The sushi prep area is in the front, to the left of the register. The energy in the place is good and it has a nice flow. I typically order the Veggie Vegas roll, which is a deep fried vegetarian roll with mango, cream cheese, asparagus, avocado and a spicy/sweet sauce on the top. It's reasonably priced at $6.50 and the perfect amount of food for me (I'm not a huge eater). I've also ordered the Crispy Alaska roll, which is smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado and spicy mayo on the top- deep fried. Their salmon is so fresh here- it has that buttery texture and it goes down so smooth. A good choice for onion lovers is the Smokey roll, which is avocado, mango, cream cheese and tobiko on the inside and smoked salmon and raw onions on the top. I personally love raw onions so for me, this one really hit the spot. The roll also highlights their super-fresh salmon. I've also had the Paradise roll, which is a fun choice. It's coconut shrimp, cream cheese and crab on the inside and salmon, avocado and spicy mayo on top. The coconut shrimp on the inside is a nice touch. I'm also a big fan of the salmon nigiri. I always order the miso soup and edamame as a complement to my meal when I'm feeling a little more hungry. I call in my order and it's always ready when they say it will be. So glad we gave this place another try-- a few years ago it wasn't memorable but wow, this last time was phenomenal! Loved the veggie gyoza, almost a pesto flavor going on. Best gyoza I've ever had. **It's probably the best sushi you can get in the area** First off, the restaurant is super clean. Having had parents who ran a restaurant, you notice how clean tables and the floor are in a restaurant. And both were spotless. I ordered the sushi bento box. I opted for the spicy tuna rolls instead of California rolls in my box. The box comes with two gyozas, a lot of spicy tuna rolls, nigiri and sashimi. Plus a seaweed salad. The fish was so fresh. It melted in your mouth and had very little fishy taste as fresh sashimi should. The portions were enough to fill me up and I can usually throw down on sushi. All this for $20 is a good deal for quality sushi. If this place were in Seattle I can see this costing an other $10-15 easily. Overall a very good place for sushi. Recommend getting here earlier as the places filled up quick for dinner. read more
