Excellent response time, feedback, and input. When we realized that my specific issue wasn't a good fit for his services, Stephen still went above and beyond to outline a path forward for my individual circumstances at no charge. He also took time out of his day to speak and walk me through next steps. Highly recommended. read more

Although he wasn't accepting any additional clients, he walked my husband and I through the filing process, answered our questions, was efficient and had great communication! read more

Mr. Kahn called me within 20 minutes after I sent a Yelp message. He is a true professional and gave me some great tax advice. Unfortunately, he currently is not taking on new clients. However, he went above and beyond and recommended me to a colleague that he thought would be a good fit for me. Thank you for your prompt response! read more

Called me within the hour I called, gave me the advice I needed, and calmed all my fears. WILL BE RETURNING. He did not have to take this time, but he did, and that makes all the difference. read more

I was looking for a local CPA business to handle both personal tax returns and tax returns related to a trust. I connected with Stephen over the phone and he picked up within two rings. He was extremely helpful and talked through my problems over the phone for quite a bit, long enough to determine how best or help me. My problem was immediate and Mr. Kahn was taking some time off for family so he referred me to a trusted peer to handle my issues. He introduced us and even confirmed prior to reaching out that his peer could handle the exact scope of my needs. Although I can't speak to his tax preparation abilities I have no doubt they are as excellent as the other reviewers all say. From the detail of his initial interview I can tell he knows taxes cold, and understands how to identify the correct tax strategy quickly. I was also impressed that he was so helpful to refer me to the service I needed, even on his day off when I called him out of the blue. Very pleased with my interaction with Stephen and I recommend him. This CPA has top notch business ethics, knows taxes, and is even friendly as well. read more

When I asked him to help me with filing my 2023 individual tax return he tossed me out and firmly recommended his friend. Upon researching I noticed he had horrible reviews. I am glad I did not end up with one of his friends. Stay away from this "CPA" guy and his "CPA" friends/staff. read more

Where do I begin? Promptness, professional, informational and down-right good guy! They don't make them like Stephen anymore! As others have noted, he is not taking clients, although, I wish he was, because I would be a client for life! However, he did offer some sound advice and a referral which I will act upon. read more

A really fantastic experience working with Stephen. He was able to take a look at my situation, explain the solution and, since he wasn't taking new clients at the time, refer me to a former colleague of his (who has also been fantastic). If you've been doing your own taxes, are looking for a trustworthy CPA, or need help figuring out how to solve a tax problem, this is the place to go. read more

Steven is fantastic!!! I've called him too late 2 years in a row but he still gave me great advice and referred me to trusted colleagues. He truly knows what he's doing and was able to help me get organized- I'm super scatterbrained when it comes to taxes and easily overwhelmed. I highly recommend him, easy to talk to, honest and upfront about what he can (and can't) do. read more

I put Mr. Kahn in touch with my husband for tax services. His situation is complex and Mr. Kahn let him know that he didn't have space to take him on. But, he did recommend a colleague who we are very happy with. All of this occurred over a weekend after reaching out on a Friday evening. read more

Nicest guy! Isn't currently taking new clients but he'll take the time to learn about your situation and make an educated referral. I wish all CPAs were this reasonable! read more

My husband recently started a new business and we need an accountant. I contacted Stephen based on all the positive reviews on Yelp. As other reviewers stated - he's not taking on new clients. However, (as other reviewers also stated), he's more than willing to offer advice just to help you out. He provided us with some great information such as opening a solo 401K to maximize our deductions and how we would file for our personal taxes and for the new business. At the end of the meeting, he offered to refer us to someone who would be a good fit to help us with our tax filing. We walked away from our meeting with Stephen feeling informed and grateful. read more

What a guy. He wasn't accepting new clients but counseled me through my tax question and referred me to someone. A plus.

I talked to Mr. Kahn for only about 10 minutes- and in that short time, I quickly realized that he was very HONEST and knowledgeable. He is not actively practicing, but provided me with helpful tips. I walked away feeling empowered. Thank you Mr. Kahn for your honesty and referral. I appreciate you. read more

I reached out for a quote from several CPA's via the yelp tool. Steve was the first to respond and we promptly set up a time to talk. He's not actively practicing but he's willing to discuss your issues and provide references for the appropriate help. I'd definitely recommend reaching out to him if you have tricky situations to deal and need a starting point with or debating if you need a CPA. read more

We have for a few years now been using the services of Steve Kahn to prepare our taxes and are very happy. He is excellent - affordable, attentive, smart, organized and friendly. Because of his great work with families on their taxes (i.e. nanny taxes) many of the "Alexandria Old Town Moms" rave about him and use his services (which is how we originally started using him.) His office is conveniently located in a quiet complex just off Duke Street and Quaker Lane. On a personal level, he will always make time to talk to you on the phone or e-mail even in the middle of busy tax season. Somehow even with all his clients he manages to have great one-on-one service as if you are the only person he is working for. He was so nice and helpful with our military/multi-state tax issues that my husband even ended up joining his company softball team. read more

With a new tax bill passed & the un-likelihood of having a postcard-sized return, I've been thinking about my 2018 taxes that will be filed in 2019 already, even though I have yet to tackle 2017 taxes. Though I no longer live in the area, I recall the nine or ten years of excellent service I received after finding Steve Kahn to do my 2004 returns. I had bought what was then a rental property & had no clue how I'd tackle that from a tax perspective. I got Steve's company from one of those slips in Val-Pak that came in the mail each month. Since his office was in close proximity, that was as good a reason to start my tax preparer search there. One phone conversation was enough to convince me to look no further. Besides being a CPA, he said he also owned some rental property. And for as long as he did my returns, I had no complaints or bad experiences. I received timely service with pin-point accuracy. Around 2014, he opted to sell his business to another CPA & go on hiatus, which was certainly his right. The other CPA started off well (with Steve coaching him), but over time, his service went downhill. My recommendation --- if Steve is back doing tax returns, hire him. If he is just merely providing advise, heed it. read more

Very helpful guy even though he didn't do my taxes he still gave me free advice and told me how I could easily handle my own tax reporting issue myself. Very nice and would go back for more help or recommendations from him for another accountant if needed. Highly recommend. read more

Stephen isn't working anymore, he's retired, but he's an awesome person for still picking up the phone and giving advice. He was able to answer a few quick questions for me, pointed me in the right direction, and was absolutely a pleasure to speak with. The first CPA I talked to, someone who was actually wanting to make money, wasn't even half as helpful or nice. Thanks Stephen! read more

Steve is by far one of the best in the business. This is a tax professional you should have at the touch of a button. I called him up based on a yelp review and I was not disappointed, he delivered!! Spoke to me as an intake for over 30 min to solve a complicated tax problem. Now he's as blunt and honest as they come. My kind of person. And he gave me some sound tax advice in the 30 minutes than I've ever had over my life time. He is the real deal. If you're not happy with who is doing your taxes, run, run to Steve. Oh and did i forget to add he gave me solid advice for FREE. Where can you find such a tax accountant? Its worth the investment. read more

First, I don't know if he is taking more clients, but if you can get him, take him. I am branching out into private practice and it has been a terrible experience. However, when I came to Mr. Kahn, he explained everything I needed to know to get my business accounting in order. I really wish I had him this time last year. I think he would have saved me from a lot of heartache. He is a really good accountant and an even better person. I wish I could say more about how he pulled me back from even bigger financial mistakes and pointed me in a better direction, but I'd have to admit how little I know about business and personal accounting. Suffice it to say that I HIGHLY recommend him. If I could give him 20 stars, I would. read more

Although Mr. Kahn is not currently taking on new clients, he took the time to chat with me via phone call and answer all of my questions. He was very honest and knowledgable. We found Steve Khan after we thought that our tax situation became a little more complex than punching numbers into a software program could handle. Meeting with Steve was great. He was very honest and upfront with us. Steve provided us with an honest assessment that ended up saving us money. It's not every day that you luck out like we did by meeting with Steve. If you need help with your taxes, he's definable the go to guy. Honest, professional, and candid. We had a magnificent experience. read more

Steve Kahn was so helpful with my tax questions. He responded quickly to my email request, and spent a long time on the phone with me working through my issues and providing great advice. Ultimately, I will be working through this myself, but his generous advice has pointed me in the right direction and has saved me a lot of anxiety. I would consult him gladly on any tax questions that arise for me in the future. read more

I found out about Stephen on Yelp and quite frankly, the reviews and my first impression were right on target. Even though he is phasing out of the taking new clients stage, he provided very sage advice through a phone call in addition to a recommendation of someone who could help with both tax prep and small business advice. He seems to be very adept in getting to the crux of the situation and making recommendations that will save money, time and administrative hassles. All of these 'savings' are very helpful when starting a small business - a time when, depending on who you talk to, can be full of over- or ill-advise. Thank you again for taking the time for a rather random call and for your very helpful kernels of information and wisdom. All the best in your future endeavors. Best, Frederick read more

I found Mr. Kahn through a google search and I reached out to him. My tax situation isn't complicated, but I has a few simple questions that were stumping me and I wanted to speak to a professional to ensure I did it correctly. He called me that same day and was upfront and honest about his services and gave me great solid recommendations so that I didn't have to spend unnecessary money filing my tax return.
