The process: you fill out a general information form that helps Richard figure out how complicated your tax preparation is going to be, and then he shares a quote with you. I initially found Richard on Yelp, and needed his services because of a notice I received from the IRS that I owed money from a past return. He right away comforted me that he had seen this before and knew exactly what needed to happen. Overall, I had a positive experience using Accutax. I had actually been with another fully online CPA for a few years, but I was just curious what else was out there. My parents usually go in-person to H&R Block, but with COVID this year, I was able to convince them to go online as well. The biggest pro is their transparent pricing process. I found the prices competitive with the fees charged by my other online CPA, but it's nice to know ahead of time exactly what you will pay. Furthermore, my former CPA invoices via Paypal where you have to pay the additional Paypal fee, whereas Accutax already includes all fees in the cited prices. I do prefer Accutax's pricing method even if Paypal is a little more convenient for payment. Accutax uses Dropbox to transfer documents. My former CPA had an independent online portal that was a little easier to use, but the Dropbox setup instructions provided were clear. Richard did respond to questions and concerns in a timely manner, and he was easy to talk to. On my tax return, he did catch one item regarding medical/dental premiums that my other CPA had missed. It wasn't a big monetary difference, but it made me a little peeved that it should have been caught earlier since I always spend the time every Jan/Feb to make sure my tax documents are well organized for my CPA. There was one question regarding selling a rental property that Richard indicated he didn't have the experience to answer, but I think that was a more complicated question than my parents and I initially thought it was since we only found one website that really addresses it. Unfortunately, the Venn diagram of tax professionals with that real estate background and tax professionals that provide full online service like Accutax does doesn't seem to have much overlap. My parents will probably have to use another tax professional with more real estate experience in the near future until they are able to sell the rental property, but for most situations, we would be comfortable using Accutax again. read more
