Ms. Hope Brown and the Management staff at H&R Block gave A+ service. I made an appointment on Friday, April 13th & Tuesday, April 17th. My tax analyst was very helpful and emailed the missing information to complete my return. She was knowledgeable and explained the new tax laws and my 2017 return in detail. I never felt rushed or uniformed. I highly suggest this location. Con- I had to pay $5 for street parking and my 2nd appointment wasn't in the system so I had to wait until the preparer was finished. Make sure you double check your appointment and call the same day to see if they are running behind. read more

I would not do business here. I worked with an agent and somehow the federal government ended up losing my entire return and she was of zero help except to say, check your bank statements and if you don't get it back in a few months, file a complaint. There was no apology and she acted like this was totally normal, and this hasn't happened to me in my twelve years of filing taxes. She was also horrible at communicating and sending secure documents. It was nightmare trying to get in contact with her, and at one point I had to call around to different H&R Block locations looking for her just to get in touch with her. Mixed feelings about my experience here. It was my first time ever getting my taxes done. They got way too complicated for 2015 so I decided I'd just bite the bullet and get them done this year since I didn't want to screw them up. I made an appointment on the website and got email confirmation as well as text message reminder. I made this appointment I think about a week in advance. I show up a few minutes before my 1pm appointment that Saturday only to find out that the 12pm appointment hadn't even been seen yet! The lady I was scheduled with just told me I could either wait about an hour (um, what?) or reschedule. Ok I get that she had an appointment run over but they clearly had both my email and phone number so it would've been nice to get some sort of notification. What was the point of me even scheduling an appointment if I had to wait an additional hour? I said I would wait, but I was basically just figuring out what I wanted to do. There was no receptionist and the front area was chaotic because there was no one there to check anyone in, and no one had any clue what was going on. After waiting a few minutes and one of the girls happened to be up front, I asked her if there was anyone else available for me because I didn't want to wait for the other lady. That girl actually had availability so she brought me right back to help me. My taxes were complicated which is why I came in. I had just moved to DC at the end of last year so I had 2 states in addition to rental property in another state, and also my federal of course. There was some back and forth between the girl helping me and another one because one was certified in all states while the other wasn't. Basically this added to even more confusion and the girls kept swapping helping me and then one didn't want to do my taxes so told the other one to, but then that one didn't want to do my taxes so told the other one to... you can imagine my frustration dealing with this. Ultimately, the original girl (Natasha) ended up mostly doing my taxes with help from others. She was good about explaining what she was doing and how things worked, which was very helpful for me so that I can do this myself next year. She was incredibly friendly and personable, and once we worked through the previous kinks, I was glad to be working with her. After going through everything for an hour and a half and not able to figure some stuff out, they ultimately decided that they needed more time to work through everything and make sure it was right. While frustrated it was going to take even longer, I much appreciated the whole making sure it's right thing. So I made an appointment for a few days later to come back and tie up all the loose ends. My second visit, they had a receptionist this time and he checked me in. I was early so I only had to wait a few min and Natasha came up front. She recognized me immediately and called me by name, which I was honestly surprised at... it felt good to know that I wasn't just a number or random person to them, they actually knew who I was. This visit was great and totally different from my first visit. Everything was in order and Natasha walked me through all the final numbers and how they got to those amounts. I felt confident with the work and am so glad that I actually understood how everything worked. One thing that was lacking is that no one explained the pricing to me at any point during my visits. When she showed me the final price, I was pretty shocked (over $400!) and I asked how it came to that number. That's when she pulled up the list of the costs for all the forms, etc. I knew it would be more expensive than filing on my own but I was just surprised at how much it actually was. She did have a coupon for me to use, so that brought the cost at right around $400 so I was definitely grateful to save a little bit of money. So, first visit was awful then generally ok. Second visit was way better. Will I be back? I hope not lol! I say that because next year I plan on doing my own taxes and not needing their services. I just learned that, because of an error made by an accountant at THIS office, I owe $7,400 PLUS interest. And that's only AFTER a significant underpayment penalty got waived. The Peace of Mind Guarantee? It might -- MIGHT -- cover $5,500 of this, but only if it gets approved. This comes after a host of other problems: emails ignored or answered weeks after the fact; sloppiness and misspellings on tax forms; $20,000 in income I didn't receive ADDED to my Schedule C. Their incompetence has been appalling and financially ruinous for me. I now have to explain to my kids why we will not be going on vacation this summer. Do not -- repeat, DO NOT -- patronize this office. They are two blocks from my house, and I would sooner drive 200 miles than work again with this accountant or anyone associated with this firm. read more

I was very happy working with Tiffany. It was a quick and painless process, and Tiffany was very easy to work with. She let me hop on her personal Wi-Fi Hotspot so I could pull up last year's tax returns on my computer. She's obviously very knowledgable about the process, which is great because I am not at all. I cannot say enough good things about Tiffany Fallon, who has worked on our taxes for several years. Our returns are complicated, requiring someone with an elevated understanding of tax laws in the District of Columbia and who knows how to handle income from investment properties. She is efficient, smart and organized, and while our returns are completed in 10 minutes or even an hour, we are extremely confident in her work. She has saved me money, saved me time and given me some piece of mind that I have accurate returns with all of the proper documentation. Okay so full disclosure I haven't gotten my refund direct deposited juuust yet but I had such a good experience and Natasha (and her sweet mama who runs reception) deserves all the love!!! My initial appointment with Jaclyn was cancelled as she was out sick, and this office did everything they could do to find me a new appointment on the same day, just 8 days before Tax Day. To be fair my taxes aren't too complicated - but funky enough that TurboTax told me I "had to upgrade to Deluxe" and "wasn't eligible to e-file," so for the first time in my life I had to go to a tax professional. From the get-go Natasha was upfront about how much money I would likely have to pay (I had to file in 3 states). She even offered me an alternative to cut down on the cost for me. She was patient while I panicked as I didn't bring my healthcare forms (because I stupidly bought into the urban myth about the ACA no longer being enforced under Trump, oops) and had to log on to my account on my phone. And on top of all of the good service, an EXTREMELY SOLID refund amount. If the deposits come through (which I'm sure they will), I'm even considering going back next year as well! read more

It was the first time my wife and I wanted to work with someone to file our taxes. We've heard H&R advertisements everywhere so we decided to make an appointment. We had a lovely lady named Jacy, and she was very patient with us. My wife and I got into a heated discussion about our taxes and Jacy gave us a moment to discuss what we needed to discuss. When we finally got settled, Jacy was very nice and reassuring. She walked through all of the numbers with us which was awesome since we had no idea what a lot of the numbers mean. We were with her less than an hour and we came out with a huge smile on our faces. It was less painful than we thought. We'll definitely be using H&R again next year, and hopefully working with Jacy again. read more

I came to this location at the beginning of 2016 to file my 2015 taxes. I began working at an international organization that's subject to special tax rules in mid-2015 and started by asking the woman if she had experience handling taxes for employees of my business. She said yes. This was either a lie, or I have bad news for any of my coworkers that have met with her. I had made quarterly payments of approximately the correct amount, but as they didn't file the necessary schedule (and in fact, I had to call and remind them to file my taxes at all, as I came in before e-filing for my out-of-state return was available, and they said it was better to wait and e-file everything at once--and then didn't), I wound up getting a larger refund than I was entitled to--but since I'd been assured they knew what they were doing, I just took it as good news. This wrongly-filed return cost me $500. For my 2016 taxes, since I had literally only my income and quarterly tax payments to contend with, I decided to save myself the $500 and file on my own through H&R Block's online software. I again got a considerably larger return than I was expecting, but everything I did lined up with the "professionally" prepared returns of the year before. A deeper dive into the IRS's website showed me where exactly we had both gone wrong, and I ended having to pay an actual, competent accountant considerably more to fix everything--not to mention the $15k I then had to pay to the IRS to return the money I had correctly paid in the first place, but now with interest and penalties. I went to an H&R Block in Chicago for many years, where they handled my normal W2 income correctly and for $130. I assume this location can probably do the same, but if you're working with anything out of the ordinary, go to someone that's handled it before--and ask them to prove it to you. read more

I highly recommend Ms. Abram. I have a mildly complicated tax situation with multiple incomes of multiple types with multiple states, including some from the military and some from independent contracting. She handled everything effortlessly and made it really easy for me. Plus, she was friendly and offered advice about other aspects of my finances that may help my kids in the future. Even though this is a huge corporation, it really felt like an independent, mom and pop tax service business. The only downfall is that it's hard to find street parking. Another tax company that handles situations similar to mine wanted to charge me $1500 for the exact same services; H&R did it for a third of the price. I'll be going back next year. read more

Dont even think about using this location. Receptionist is rude and will laugh at you for asking questions. They admit they have no knowledge of the H&R Block software and how you can use both online and inoffice services to maximize time. They wont even give you a price breakdown of how much an appointment costs until you book and come in for an appointment. No thank you! Will be using turbotax. read more
