First, they charged me $250 for a basic filing service that most other professionals offer for around $100. Unfortunately, the inflated price did not come with better service -- quite the opposite. The office itself is filthy and poorly maintained, which should have been a red flag. The accountant simply gave me advice to handle my case with the Tax dept. that created serious issues for me and then completely disappeared. I tried to contact him more than 10 times over the course of 17 days with no response. My emails and messages were ignored until the deadline to submit my documents had already passed. Only after the deadline did the secretary message me saying I should solve my problems on my own -- because the accountant is on vacation. When I voiced my frustration about the lack of response, the secretary actually hung up on me. They were okay only until I made the payment -- after that, they acted like I no longer mattered. "the photo attached explains a lot." The accountant also carries himself with an arrogant, dismissive attitude -- as if he's doing clients a favor just by responding. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this level of unprofessionalism, neglect, and disrespect deserves to be called out. I would not recommend this office to anyone.

Now I am past my deadline for payment and will have to pay additional late fees. AVOID this business at all cost. They do not know what they are doing. In the end, I got a response a couple of days before taxes were due to be filed with a report that we $12K in taxes. There was a potential to open an IRA to lowering our tax liability but with no guidance on how to do that and only 2 days to spare we just paid the bill. I would not recommend working with these folks. They seem like nice enough people but were either overwhelmed this tax season or understaffed. Either way, that exactly what you count on a tax account to be prepared for and they clearly failed.

My taxes are pretty complicated since I have to file in multiple states. That coupled with the new…read moretax laws means that there was no way I was going to attempt to do my taxes myself. I called Dominion early in January and was able to get a spot as a new client. (I later learned that they only open a few new client spots every year, so I recommend trying them in December or January if you want to get a spot.) I called the morning of my appointment to make sure they were still open, since a snowstorm had canceled schools and many local business closed for the day. Not only was Dominion still open, but they were able to move my appointment to earlier in the day since other clients had canceled. As soon as Carson was done with his previous appointment, he welcomed me back to his office and we started going through the paperwork. Carson was so great. It's clear that he is extremely familiar with the tax code and entered all my paperwork quickly. He helped me access some additional information online when we realized I needed an additional piece of real estate paperwork. He even explained some deductions that we were eligible for that I was unaware of and allowed me to submit that paperwork later after I collected the necessary information at home. Perhaps the most amazing part of all of it is that Dominion only charges a $150 flat fee for your personal taxes. I thought for sure it would be like one of these chain tax places where the base rate only applies if you are filing in one state or have a single W-2. Their price is more than fair to know that your taxes are done right and you are getting as many deductions as possible based on your individual situation. I'll definitely be back next year!

However this past year he dodged my emails/phone calls, my husband's emails/phone calls, and my elderly mother's emails/phone calls (we all file separately). He once picked up the phone and then pretended to be someone else when he realized I was calling for an update on my taxes. He lied to us about filing for an extension and took forms from my mother that he never returned. Ultimately he stopped replying entirely and we had to look for a new accountant, several months after the filing deadline. I just got a notice that I owe several thousand dollars in late filing fees because it turns out he also lied about getting an extension. I don't know what is going on and while I wish Steven no ill will, please do not work with this firm or him. I don't want this to happen to anyone else.

However, it's difficult to go with a company or trust them with your taxes when they can't even respond to you in a timely manner or at all. Let me detail my experience below: December 16, 2019: Send an inquiry through their website asking about availability for new clients. Receive a response from Steven that they're currently evaluating their capacity and will get back to me in a week. I respond immediately asking if I should follow up in a week or if they'll let me know? *CRICKETS* December 26, 2019: Ask for an update. Hear nothing, follow up with an inquiry through their website December 31, 2019: Receive a response from Steven apologizing for letting this slip through the cracks. They have room for new clients and ask for information. I respond an hour later with the information. *CRICKETS* January 19, 2019: Another follow up. Ask for an update. *CRICKETS* January 31, 2019: I give up. I reached out to three other companies and they immediately responded, asked for my tax information which I provided, and... immediately responded. So thank you Capitol CPA for wasting my time.
