New client - Had a scheduled call with Darren Wendroff "Director of Communications" LOL For being a "Communications Director" from the beginning of the call, he treated me very arrogantly as if he was doing me a favor. He said to me that he didn't have much time as if he was doing me a favor, I tried to give him all the information I know and could, he then replied with a high tone... If you don't give me accurate information, I cannot give you a quote , pretty interesting introduction to this firm Wendroff & Associates to a new client, if they are willing to treat you in that manner in a introduction, I can only imagine how they will treat you if you have a need, emergency or concern. I politely said to Darren Wendroff "Director of Communications" LOL, that he didn't need to be rude to me and speak in that manner to me... He got quiet and hung up on me - GOOD LUCK if you go with this firm. read more

Update: So on top of my original complaints, upon deeper review they misfiled my taxes which resulted in me paying more than $10k than I should have. I'm of course waiting for my refund and hoping it comes through. Regarding the owner's comments about submitting it close to deadline. I submitted my documents weeks in advance (and ahead of their quoted deadline date for me to provide). I don't appreciate the implication that I submitted my documents late when simple email records can verify I submitted ahead of their deadline. Just say you were busy this year, had to deal with some staff shortages, what I don't appreciate is trying to pass it back on to me. read more

Tried to get a quote over the phone and they don't do that they need you fill out forms and email them. I just want a price nothing else: therefore they are not getting my business. Can't stand companies that can't just give a price. They also don't know how to pick up the phone, called 3 times so frustrating. read more

Scheduled a consult with Darren. Explained I was looking for strategies to reduce tax burden and explained some of my current strategies I've mapped. He says the tax planning is an additional $900 annualIy and they could demonstrate the impact of implementing the changes I've been thinking of. Asked if in addition to the few strategies I've already mapped out might there be additional helpful strategies in light of an additional $900 fee. Darren says they might not be the firm for me and continued repeating that until I agreed and exited the call. Lots of attitude from the moment the call started. Seemed flustered. Call lasted maybe 5 minutes before I was dismissed. Seems like a perfectly sane and non-offensive question to ask during a consult. Guess not... read more

I've used them for several years now for my annual taxes and they do a great job. They are wonderful at communicating with me and I have all the confidence in the world in them. Not only were they extremely responsive, but offered a tremendous level of detail into my 2019 taxes and even reviewed 2018. Original review from 2016: Wendroff & Associates has been doing our personal and business taxes since 2009, and I consider them to be truly outstanding. They are detail-oriented, fast and friendly. I have complete confidence that we're getting the best advice on tax savings. I've never been disappointed in the refunds that we've received under Wendroff's care (in fact I know that they've saved us a lot of money, because we've had not so good CPAs in the past!), but I also have found the firm to be reassuringly conservative in its interpretation of the tax code. More than anything else, Jay and I have come to consider Brian a part of the family. He's been enormously generous with his time, and has given us boundless advice on organizing our accounting, setting up payroll, maximizing tax savings, and the like. He's also bent over backwards time and again when we've been under the gun. We're buying a house on short notice and had to ask him to write a letter to our mortgage broker at 9pm last night - on a Sunday evening - and he was on the phone with us at 9am this Monday morning getting it done. Our broker had the letter in hand by noon. That sort of support is really incredible and so hard to find. I really cannot recommend this firm more highly! I trust them so much that I even recommended Wendroff and Associates to my boss when he was in need of an accountant - and he came into my office two weeks later to say that he owed me one, because Brian had refiled his returns and managed to save him $6,000 that the prior CPA had overlooked! ;-) Update in July 2021: Just wanted to note that Wendroff is still doing our taxes and we're really happy with them! read more

AVOID! I give this place one star for having the ability to schedule a meeting virtually. Spoke with a Darren who was 5 minutes late to the call and never apologized. Shared my needs with him, which he then continued to "mansplain" stuff to me assuming that I have no knowledge of taxes. Asked him how his firm is different and he said go look online and check out "our amazing reviews"... anyway he stated that he was going to email with a proposal which I have yet to receive. Good to know that this tax firm is reliable in following up with prospective customers. I don't see how this firm has supposedly amazing reviews when you have a director of comms that is unprofessional. Hope the owner sees this and resolves this issue. read more

Original review: March 2013: Good tax prep CPAs are far and in between. Good tax prep CPAs who can also prepare international tax forms [1040NR] are very very rare. I found myself looking for one such CPA a few months ago. Although filing taxes using the Non Resident form is something I've done for the past tax seasons, I had some complications that needed an eagle eyed CPA. After doing some searching on Yelp and Google Places, I found Wendroff and Associates. All I have to say about them is, they are AWESOME!!! Brian, Kim, Jennifer, Darren and others at Wendroff & Associates were awesome at communicating efficiently and effectively, preparing the needed forms without error and putting together the whole package without needing a visit from me in person. Yes, you read that right! The Wendroff team is pretty tech savvy and I did not need to visit their office at all. The tax prep was painless as well. They just gave me a list of supporting documents they needed from me and I could sent those in by email [scanned copies], mail [photocopies] or in person. I chose to email them because it was simpler. They got back to me with some supplementary questions they had and voila, my tax preparation was done. They emailed me a duplicate set of prepared tax forms and mailed me a set of original tax forms with supporting documents neatly stapled, with envelopes to mail them in, address labels and another set of duplicate forms. To sum up, I highly recommend Brian and his team for a quick, efficient, painless and awesome tax preparation service, even for those filing non-resident taxes. Update: May 2013 I had to contact Wendroff & Associates recently because I wanted to send in one of my forms late, due to an address change. Jennifer efficiently took charge of the situation and got me the updated forms I needed. I have nothing but praises for Brian and his team. I'm extremely happy that I discovered Wendroff & Associates a few years ago. They are very responsive, friendly, and do excellent work. I've had to file tax returns in multiple states, with a rental property in one state and a business in another, and they handled the complexities with ease, answered all my questions, and completed the work quickly and thouroughly. They also make good use of technology to streamline the tax filing and payment/return process. In addition to e-filing, they'll also send you a PDF copy of your returns, which are encrypted and password protected to protect your data. They're also experts in Quickbooks and Quickbooks Online, so if you're a small business owner, it's easy to send them your financial data electronically. They are so much easier to work with compared to some of the "old school" CPAs I've worked with in the past. We had a rather complicated tax return due to the fact that we had moved and been part-time residents of two states. Preparing the return was over these guys' heads.
