I LOVED Kahlos much more than I was expecting! We stopped by for lunch while in the area and it was slow...I mean, at least 2 other tables were there. Our group was large (at least 7 folks) and we had no issue finding space for us. Mexican food is high on list of priorities here in Denver as I've been on a mission to find great authentic foods since moving here from Texas. Menu wise they have a great selection & many 'classic' dishes (pozole, tortas, etc) I went with the mole and horchata and BOY was I IMPRESSED!! The horchata was amazing - not too sweet! The mole was amazing & had a great flavor that reminded me of my mom's. They lost a star due to slow service but, hey, everyone's experiencing a worker shortage nowadays so we can't be too picky. read more

The only reason why I'm giving it two stars is because service was fast and our server did nothing wrong. The ambiance was simple, we ate on the patio so not much decor was there. We ordered chips and salas to start salas had absolutely no flavor, we had to ask for limes and salt to save it and that did absolutely nothing. We ordered the vegan enmoladas and vegan potato flautas the enmoladas were okay but lacked a lot of flavor rice had no flavor and beans were pretty much water the flautas were not a safe choice no flavor and im not sure what they put inside of them but my potatoes were pink and tasted like soap. Definitely the worst plate of flautas Iv ever had and i would think it's pretty hard to mess up a plate of potato flautas. Just don't spend your money here. We Payed almost $60.00 for chips and salad two plates of hardly edible food and two aguas. Bottom line: Check out Kahlo's if you enjoy an explosion of spices. Owner of Tarascos opened a new restaurant that's beautifully inspired by Frida Kahlo. Enjoy some of her amazing self portraits while you indulge in great Michoacán cuisine. FOOD: Vegan and Gluten-free options galore. The mole is quite better here. Do yourself a favor and start with the Nopales -- perfectly grilled cactus accompanied by a spicy red salsa. Chips and salsa to start but if you want extra it'll cost ya. The food seemed a lot more fresh and flavorful here than it's sister restaurant. SERVICE: Quick and friendly, took the time to explain the dishes and ensure we would not issues with allergies. MISC: Nice murals on the outside of the building. Plenty of parking. Tarascos likes to close randomly, this place seems more stable with hours of operation. It's a nicer restaurant, you can tell the owner is passionate about creating a space for people to take delight in his home cuisine. read more

I so wanted to like Kahlo's. The food looked great online and the restaurant's decor was fun. The food, however, was not what I was expecting. Kahlo's bills itself as Michoacán-style but it did not have the flavors that I remember from living in Morelia. This place was so yummy my Vegan friends even loved it they had so many options. I will be back for sure. Loved it!

As soon as I walked I asked the waiter if it was possible to order food to go and he looked annoyed at the question. I asked to get water in my reusable water bottle and got an eye roll from the waiter and handed tap water. Despite this I still ordered a vegetarian torta and vegan enchiladas. I wish I took a picture of the torta because it was $10 and literally an inch thin with only beans and avacado. Then I tasted my enchiladas and the sauce was literally worse than canned spaghetti sauce. Overpowering tomato paste flavor and no Mexican spices. To top it all off there was a hair in my food which was definitely not mine because I had my hair pulled back in a braid and tucked into a beanie. read more

Recently discovered this place soclose to my house. Once I realized it was Frida Kahlo themed, I had to check it out! It is this cute and colorful little restaurant that is decked out with Frida all over the walls along with some fantastic art and murals! The staff is super friendly. And the food... The food was incredible! When the restaurant's salsa, something so simple, is so tasty, it says a lot about what their meals will be like! And I was not disappointed at all! The only reason I am giving this 4 stars, is because they don't serve alcohol! Nothing goes better with a fantastic Mexican meal other than a house margarita on the rocks, and unfortunately that was not an option here! Great prices on everything. So many veggie options, we cant wait to try more. They also have great juice bar. As for the atmosphere the inside of the building looks beautiful. The walls ceilings are painted with flowers and the walls are speckled with paintings by and photos of Frida Kahlo and theres a vintage television and typewriter right in frount of the enterance. I was visiting Denver for the first time and was on the hunt for the famous green chilli. As a vegetarian, i knew this was a bit tough but I ventured over to Kahlo's after seeing so many rave reviews. This place is a bit away from the main city (for those visiting like me, you need to uber or drive) but I am glad I made the trek. The chef learned that I was visiting and created an vegan ensemble of items for me to try. The menu is filled with so many vegan and vegetarian options so it was nice not having to decide. While I didn't end up loving the green chilli, i did enjoy the freshness of my meal which included the cactus, carrot enchiladas, and tacos. My favorite part was the wonderful service and care they provided. The ambiance here is adorably eclectic and filled with Kalhlo portraits. If i was a local, i would come back to try more items. read more

Soooo delish! I had the enchiladas Rojas plate, it came with rice and beans and I had horchata to wash it all down and it was amazing!! My daughter had a burrito and she said it was yummy! A group of friends and I were looking for a place to have dinner that was a good middle place for all of us to get to. Kahlo's showed up in the mapped area I was searching and IM SO GLAD IT DID! It was quiet when I walked it and I was told I could sit wherever. Menus were promptly brought as well as free chips and salsa, once everyone arrived they brought a round of waters (which they filled constantly, one of my biggest pet peeves is when the water goes empty and is never refilled, especially when I don't order another beverage, big kudos). We all decided from other reviews we had seen that we'd start with the guacamole, so good, so was the salsa. Three of us ordered the mole enchiladas (I'm disappointed in myself for not noting the name of the dish, but it was on the bottom of the left side of the menu, SO GOOD! One person ordered the shrimp enchiladas, none of plates had any food left on them. Flavor was great the whole way through, will definitely be back! Oh yeah! Ended our meal with churros, they weren't the cinnamon sugar smothered kind, but I didn't hesitate to polish off a plate to myself. Weird service experience! I come in as a fan of Tarasco's, and was excited to try their outpost in Westwood. We arrived at an off hour on Sunday afternoon, around 2:30. I ordered the Enchiladas Rojas plate for myself and a bean burrito for my younger daughter. My eldest daughter was looking for crispy tacos with ground beef. I knew this was a picky request, given the menu, but I had noted ground beef (picadillo) among their options, and thought it couldn't hurt to ask. The server said they could accommodate. I stated that my daughter would want lettuce, tomato, and cheese on the tacos, and the server replied, "Everything, great!" Five minutes later, the server returned with the menu, pointing at the Flautas appetizer entry, and she said that ground beef is not an option for those. I was a little confused, but I assume that Flautas were what she was considering a crispy taco. I asked if they would prepare soft tacos instead -- street tacos are prominent on their menu -- and she said they would. Much time passed, which was a little irritating, given that we were the only diners in the restaurant at the time. When the food arrived well after 3pm, my younger daughter got her bean burrito, and she was happy. My enchiladas were delicious, though they mixed up the fillings (I asked for two w/ chicken, but received two w/ beef). However, the "soft tacos" for my eldest were -identical- to my enchilada plate, covered with guajillo sauce, crema and queso fresca (and incidentally, no lettuce or tomato in sight). I asked immediately, "These are soft tacos? They look like enchiladas..." and I expressed my concern that my daughter would not like the guajillo sauce. We said she'd give them a try, but sure enough, they were not to her liking. I sent the enchilada plate back, and I asked if they could just make the soft tacos as we'd discussed. The server said yes. More time passed. Finally what arrived was a plate of three enchiladas -- tough, naked corn tortillas wrapped around just the picadillo filling -- still no lettuce or tomato, and no cheese this time around. I don't understand why it was so hard to make some soft tacos, but we gave up at this point. My daughter ate what she could of these not-tacos, I paid the bill, and we left. It seems odd that not once, but twice, they gave us food we didn't order, and they didn't seem especially cognizant of the difference (the receipt spoke to the truth of the matter, charging me for two enchilada plates). There wasn't a language barrier that I noticed, so I have nothing to which to ascribe this problem. In any case, I won't be returning, at least not with my kids in tow! read more

The food is fresh, the decor is unique and the service is great. They have ton of Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten-free options. The freshly made juices taste awesome. The owner stopped by multiple times to chat with us. The parking lot is small, but they do have street parking as well in front of the store. Our first visit was during the Westwood Chile fest, so they were busy all day. However, it's a planned event so a business should be ready for it. Kahlo's was clearly overwhelmed. Between waiting for a clean table to getting drinks and chips (no salsa since they were out), was over 45 minutes. Never got water refills,lost our order, never checked on after food was delivered, and finally lost our bill. Thankfully, the busser brought a drink refill and the server we flagged down to get a togo container and our bill was very nice. Service = 1 star. Menu is clearly reminiscent of their other restaurant, Tarasco's. We ordered the crispy Rellenos and steak nachos, ironically to get something quick - nothing that showcases the restaurant and their more signature selections like vegetarian options and mole. Crispy Rellenos were good, smothered in possibly a green chile, but it was difficult to tell for sure in the dim lighting. Steak nachos were also good but didn't look as appealing as a previous photo taken by a fellow Yelper. My nachos looked like they were sitting under a warming light or other heat source a little too long. Food was warm, not piping hot. Overall flavors had depth and complexity, so this is not your average Mexican restaurant...just not a good night. I will give Kahlo's a mulligan but can only muster an overall 2 star for this visit. I am confident they are better and look forward to trying them on a more normal night. read more

When you walk into a restaurant at 7 on a Saturday night and it's completely empty, there's probably a reason why. Call me whatever you want, but I love to have a good margarita with my Mexican food. But there are no margaritas (or alcohol) here. The waitress had two tables and proceeded to give our order to the other table, who ate our food. So, we had to wait about 45 minutes for our food that they obviously rushed out of the kitchen, and didn't even manage to comp anything on our bill. The food is fine, but the experience was terrible. I'd give it a lower rating if possible. We can in at 6 on a Sunday evening, and the server acted like we were an inconvenience for showing up. Not a packed house either. It took fifteen minutes to get water. My daughter's order came out wrong and the server was argumentative about having it fixed. Instead of remaking the dish as requested and agreed on they brought out a side of chili as a quick fix. The rice is whiter than the hipster clientel. Tl dr: shit service and alright food. The best Mexican restaurant in Colorado. I found this restaurant from a raving review posted at Next Door. I'm as excited as they were to find such an excellent restaurant. The food is fresh, delicious, and interesting. They offer vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options. I have been there 3 times this week because their menu is big and I want to try everything. They also have amazing smoothies. They are located in the Westwood neighborhood, equally as interesting. Along with excellent food the service is excellent as well. read more

We absolutely love Kahlo's. It is the kind of place where no order is the wrong order. Every item on the menu is delicious. My wife and I often will order the chicken mole and the crispy chile relleno. And if it is even a little cool outside, we will go with a Mexican hot chocolate. But to only mention those items is to not include so many incredibly delicious items. We are so thankful to have Kahlo's in the neighborhood and we cannot wait for the next time we can go. Oh and I forgot to mention that our two year old daughter will not stop eating the corn tortillas. Last night she wandered our backyard, tortilla in hand, and a smile on her face. This is the first time I've ever huevos rancheros served with mushrooms in the sauce... And with a side of white rice and green peas. Fantastic combination. The sauce is mild... Not hot but very tasty. The beans... were a little cold. I asked for french fries and got a wonderful bucket of them. They were delicious. I live in this neighborhood. The restaurant is fantastically decorated and has a wonderful festive atmosphere. It's it's a long Morrison Road which is going through an absolutely incredible transformation in this party city. I'm so happy to be this restaurants neighbor. By the way... There are Frida kahlo paintings all over the wall. The Pepto-Bismol pink wall is a wonderful touch. read more

Frieda Kahlo is one of my favorite artists and this is definitely one of my favorite place in Denver. The food is wonderful. I got steak enchiladas and my husband got the mole chilaquiles (sorry about the spelling)--both were really tasty. Very kid friendly establishment with a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
