Was thinking the best way to describe my experience and I have to settle with OK. Located at the rooftop of the hotel we booked, we decided to take a peek on our first night. The music was blaring through the room, lights were on, but no guests were around. Seemed like they did all that for 2 interviews? No one noticed us and I assumed they were closed because one of the glass windows was wrapped up. Next day, the wrapped up window was removed and guess all fixed. A few guests were munching and drinking. We were also able to walk around the rooftop (nice views). I don't know what season others came, but the menu was extremely limited. So I opted for brussel sprouts (most bang for my buck) and wings. The fries that came with the wings reminds me of McDonald's. Wings were okay and my friend's pizza ($18) wasn't cooked fully and quite small for the price. Staff did make another one and did alot better the second time around. read more

The view was seriously the best part. The balcony has such potential, but there were spiderwebs on the couches so we had to sit in the sun at a high table. The tables I bc the sun had so many bugs all over the place. It was disgusting. The food was good, but we couldn't finish it because the bugs took over the food. We asked for to go boxes to close everything up and never received to go boxes. Therefore, the food went to waste bc the bugs took over our food(see video and photos). We told the manager and even showed him the video of the bugs all in our food. The manager should have taken the food off our bill, but he did not. I'm not writing anymore about this restaurant. So when we got there it was really nice we went through a rooftop elevator there was parking right beside the entrance so very convenient. So it was self seating and it took about 20 minutes for the server to reach us, but poor dude was there alone i felt so bad. So he leaves our menus off then takes another 20 minutes to come take our order so in that time we try to tell him everything we want to order and the drinks were good, we just ordered wine. The views are great but the area wasn't the best, there was a bunch of people in four wheelers driving on the streets in large groups making a ton of noise. But honestly it was pretty cool to see it there were other cars helping them get through the traffic but i guess i just didn't like the noise. Had a great time here for my bach! The bouncers were friendly (even though they suggested my sister clean out her purse to find her ID ) and allowed my girls to store their heels behind the bar. They also made fun conversation while we waited for our Uber. The DJ and his crew were great and kept the energy up. There were a few guys on the dance floor who insisted on dancing with you no matter what vibes you gave him.... There aren't many places to sit unless you get in there early enough. If you take anything from this review, just know that you are really coming here for the view and not much else. As long as that's your expectation, you'll leave happy. If you want more, I'm not sure this is where you get it. My companion had been here before, but it was my first time. The hostess was super sweet and friendly. It's a really cute setup on the 20th floor with multiple kinds of seating arrangements. Initially we were seated at a table for 2 which would have been service by a waitress. We eventually moved to bar table near the railing so we could see the skyline. There, you have to go to the bar to order. They also have VIP Kabanas you can reserve for a fee + minimum spend. The seat covers looked dirty, so I'm not sure it's worth paying to be seated at them. We had 3 rounds of drinks. I couldn't get the first drink I wanted because they were out of coconut milk. I settled for a miami vice and though it was drinkable, it tasted like straight up peach instead of strawberry & pina colada. I thought maybe I was tripping, but my companion tasted it and confirmed. Between us, we tried that, the cucumber refresher, the berry mojito, and the strawberry mint mocow mule. Nothing was a wow. Towards the end of the night, the bartender said they weren't making anymore cocktails and instead offered long islands...Weird but, ok. They also asked if we wanted the tab open, which we did but somehow it kept getting closed anyway which means credit card statements with a mess of random charges. The roof was pretty filled up and it was a more mature, 30+ crowd. It was Latin night and I learned from another guest that there were bachata lessons prior to the DJ coming on. Aside from like 3-4 couples, not many people were dancing. But like I said- you're not going for the drinks really. You're not going for the service. (And from what I've read in other reviews- you're likely not going for the food either!) The place has a lot of potential, it's just not being ran smoothly. I got in during the early evening before it got too crowded, and the service was pretty fast. I was visited with a birthday dinner at kabana rooftop ! Y'all this place was breathtaking. Definitely for the grown and sexy lol . They have two bars , one inside and one outside . We went there mid day so the outside bar was not open but that's was fine because I don't drink anyways lol . The services were nice and helpful . They had live musicians playing and the scenery was phenomenal. They also had a lot of seating areas inside and out . We ordered the lamb chops and it came with Mash potatoes and asparagus. The website seemed like there were all these rules about reservations and cancellations which makes sense but was really confusing when we showed up and they seated us but never asked for my name, just if I had a reservation. Didn't seem like the most organized situation as they almost didn't have room for us even though we had a reservation. The views are great, but the service was very slow. Between their limited menu, food is mediocre at best, & service is not that great, I wouldn't revisit based on yesterday. We were then accommodated with chairs set up at the bar where I had the WORST Amaretto Sour in the history of Amaretto sours .. Unfortunately, date night at this restaurant was a disaster. The two redeeming qualities of the place are the view from the rooftop and the strength of the drinks. It's clearly a popular spot. But as far as the service and the food go, it's a total dud. We ordered the bang bang shrimp, chicken sandwich, and Cajun pasta. The shrimp was great, but there isn't anything else nice I can say. Don't get me wrong, I attempted to eat the pasta, pictured here looking like it's already been eaten by someone else and then returned to the plate. Who serves pasta like this? It's utterly unrecognizable and swimming in grease! And took so long to arrive I wish we had left and eaten elsewhere. I had such high hopes for Kabana Rooftop. It was a lovely Wednesday afternoon on April 24th, 2019. I was having a rather horrible start to the week and the idea of a roof top happy hour sounded like just the medicine I needed. My wife and I work a few blocks away so this location could not be more perfect. Roof Top happy hour within walking distance? YES PLEASE! I went up the weird elevators to the 20th floor. I walked in and immediately thought "cool place, this could be my regular happy hour spot!" I spoke with a smiling waitress and proceeded to rush to get an outside booth. I sat down and felt the seats were incredibly uncomfortable. My wife showed up, sat down, and said the same thing. When I got up to use the bathroom I looked at the adjacent booths; they all had leather cushions. Well no wonder this booth was available it didn't have leather cushions you silly goose! I politely asked if they could put the cushions on this last booth. The response was "We are still slowly renovating and we don't have custom leather cushions for that booth." Oh. Ok. So... you can't maybe run to Pier 1 and get some throw pillows or Jerry rig some form of outdoor cushion thing from Home Depot or just try oh, I don't know, ANYTHING? No? F**k it. Just open this place all half @$$? Got it. You've only had all winter. Anyway. Waitress came by, SUPER SWEET, smile could light up a dark night. I ordered a Corona on draft, it came right out. So far so good! My wife shows up around 5:15pm and now there is decent delay (more patrons had shown up) so that was a little annoying. Let me be clear. Waiting 5 minutes or even 10 is frustrating but we all need to be patient in this world. I've asked a lot of people and the general consensus is after 5 or 10 minutes we've reached bull$!it territory. Over 20 minutes however and not even some acknowledgement, yeah, you NEED TO WORK ON THAT. Show a little hustle and some professionalism. This isn't the DMV or Post Office, this is a For-Profit business, let's act like it. We had our drinks and life was good. We took goofy selfies and all the other gratuitous things you do on a rooftop. The cushions and delays were forgiven so let's enjoy the killer weather and view. More drinks arrived at a decent pace so life is good, everybody is happy. Hunger sets in so the three of us decided to order the tacos which were featured on the happy hour menu. The ladies had to be all extra and mix-and-match what they wanted. I kept it simple and just ordered two shrimp tacos. The special needs tacos came out within an acceptable timeline, and our friend politely asked for a few more napkins. The snarky response was "sure, I only have two hands" or some smart @$$ sarcastic response. Nobody asked you about how many hands you have. As Miss Congeniality was walking away she casually mentioned how my order of shrimp tacos were on their way. Well they weren't. Those napkins never showed up either. Before you knew it, 30 to 45 minutes had passed and still no shrimp tacos in sight. Then, an Angel appeared walking towards me, with, you guessed it, SHRIMP TACOS. But wait. Uh oh. Where are you going??? Oh. You're walking RIGHT PAST ME to deliver them to another table. Awesome. By now my order was placed AN HOUR AGO. My tacos never came out. Rule #1 always blame it on the kitchen. I doubt it's their fault. Even so, whatever the reason, how the heck do you legit WALK PAST ME WITH MY ORDER!? COME ON! Are you serious??? I'm nagging the life out of you for this dumb order, it's in your HAND and yet, no little alarm goes off and says, let me drop this plate here and go fill that other table on the next run. Nope. We get the shrimp tacos compensated due to the confusion. The manager sits down to poorly explain what happened. Order upon order of shrimp tacos made it to the pass and just kept getting grabbed by ANYONE to fill ANY open order expect the guy who was first in line. Awesome. Priorities right? I suppose this review is unfair and mean. Maybe you need to take this review with a grain of salt. Maybe I'm just a disgruntled Yelp Elite who was having a bad week. Maybe your staff need a lot more training in both etiquette and multitasking. Maybe fills order in a serial fashion and not in parallel. That means one at a time. Tonight, I had a very negative experience with the woman bartender at the outdoor bar. First, the bartender skipped me even though I was waiting longer than the person she served before me... Eventually, I asked her for a cosmopolitan but the bartender said they aren't serving the cocktail menu. Next, I asked if there was a menu or list of what they ARE serving and she said mixed drinks but not cocktails...... I was confused so I asked for a cranberry vodka. I was then asked what kind of vodka & was still confused because it didn't matter & I felt like I made it as simple as I could. The bartender then decided she "doesn't have time" for me, refused service, and said we have to get drinks from the inside bar. I didn't get any names but I give this place 3 stars because after complaining to the managers, I was able to get a cosmo. They listened to my complaint and did what they could to make sure my night went in a better direction than it was heading. I'm not sure if I would ever return but thank you to the managers for having good conflict resolution skills instead of also deciding to refuse service. I really wanted to like this place... but I think I just needed better expectations going into it. If you're looking for a nice place to enjoy drinks over a conversation, this is NOT your place. We came between 8-9:30 pm on a Thursday night and ended up moving inside due to cold weather (unfortunately they don't have heat lamps on the roof), but the MUSIC was so loud we couldn't even hear the person across from us. For being one of 3 tables in the place at 8 pm on a Thursday, this seemed a little ridiculous. Highly recommend sitting outside if you want to hear the person you're with. Service: We were one of the only tables in there, yet service was extremely slow and understaffed. It took nearly 15 minutes just to see a server and another 15-20 to get our drinks. Our server was so sweet, but she was stretched thin. I don't even want to know what it would have been like if they were busy. Drinks: very average tasting, EXTREMELY overpriced. I ended up paying $17-18 for one drink once the 20% automatic gratuity was added in. Not to mention almost all of their drinks came in plastic cups. (Totally understandable once they pivot into a dance club, but seems wasteful for a table who just came for drinks.) Food: also average. The Brussel sprouts were very good, but the French fries and onion rings were nothing to rave about for the price. TLDR: Worth visiting for a drink or 2, the views and some selfies. I've been a couple of times, but went today for the first time (for Jazz Tuesday) since they "renovated"/changed their style. They don't sell food anymore -- aside from VERY limited small apps -- so I'll talk about the atmosphere! Kabana has a great view of downtown RVA, with all the city lights and sunsets. There are 2 bars, and on a typical day you won't have trouble getting a drink. Drinks are delish! Priced more like a cocktail bar. A group of 6 of us came on a Saturday night for a friend's birthday. They have a dress code of sophisticated casual so We got cute! We made reservations for indoor seating since it was cold out. We ordered a couple of Appetizers to share: Brussel sprouts and crab& artichoke dip. Both tasted great but the chips with the dip were definitely stale. We all ordered drinks which were very tasty. The server was either new or having an off day. We had questions about the menu and she was very slow to answer or had to go ask someone else. Our Entrees came and 3 of us ordered the lemon butter Salmon dinner. The asparagus was seasoned so well and tasty. The Salmon had no flavor and 3 of us agreed. We asked for more lemon butter to pour over it which didn't help add to the flavor. The mashed potatoes left more to be desired. The birthday girl ordered the shrimp fettuccine and enjoyed it which is all that matters at the end of the day. This is a cute spot for drinks and Appetizers for sure. This place has an infamous reputation for not being able to keep a GM. Coming from someone who used to work there they went to 4gms within a year's time and that's a bad sign. Most recently, since the summer of 2024 once a new GM came in she fired the head chef who made great food and knew what the customers want and who had great chemistry with everyone in the restaurant both front and back and the quality of the food along with the atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant spiraled downward from there. Service and views were spot on for a sunset pick me up, plus it's a chic spot with plenty of street parking. Half of the patio was closed off, not sure why, but other customers by passed the rope and went to the other side were the beautiful view is located. The goat taco birria tacos were tasty but this dish had many small bones I had to pluck out mid chew. I found the menu to be a bit more expensive in the area. Went here for a retirement party and the only perk of this place is the view but it was such a windy, cold, and rainy night that the outdoor patio couldn't be utilized. The drinks were just okay and not very creative. I ordered a cosmopolitan and it tasted like oranges, which isn't in a cosmopolitan. The food offerings were very random and not very good. Where to begin? - Prices for liquor are obscene for the low quality - Charged for wrong liquor (brought New Amsterdam, charged for Hendricks) - Service was impressively slow, forgetful, uninformed - Cigarettes on the ground in the lounge - The alcohol selection is not great quality - 5% "rooftop amenities fee" - no clue what for - Mandatory bottle service after 8p in the reserved spaces, no cocktails from the bar - Reserved the sky lounge (sofa) for $50 (2hrs worth of time plus $300 minimum tab) and the DJ didn't show or was really late - a chief reason for our visit - In the beginning, we changed servers three times. - We couldn't walk to a bar and order under our open lounge tab - Spiders everywhere - Snacks were okay, but most al la carte apps were not in stock - Zero vibe (no music playing on the opposite side whatsoever) It just felt like some inexperienced people were given a liquor license, a venue, and a business model of "let's see what we can get away with". We've had the privilege of traveling around the world and love to call Richmond home which made this so disappointing to experience in our own backyard. Came here yesterday, Sunday afternoon during Phase 3(?) reopening. They should probably find some better hostess to greet customers, because they girl there yesterday was extremely rude and not accommodating. I called earlier in the day to confirm my outdoor rooftop brunch reservation. I'd think it'll be told to us that the shades were "broken" beforehand considering how hot it was. The manager actually let down the one shade that was working to accommodate us until an inside table was available, so I appreciated her for that. The scenery was pretty nice, although the outdoor couches were a little dirty. It's not a lot of space inside but they made it work. My entire family loved the food, they said it was really good. Chicken and Waffles and French Toast was good. Music is very mixed, not the type of brunch I'm use to in Chicago but a nice family brunch with some drinks. They don't give you a champagne bottle and orange juice for the mimosas, it come mixed already. You don't have to be 21 or over for brunch. After months in COVID lockdown, DH and I attended a pre-wedding fete/in lieu of rehearsal dinner celebration at Kabana. It was actually our first restaurant outing since March 2020 that was not take-out. I have always wanted to give Kabana a try, so I was happy to get this invitation. The party was limited to pretty much family only but Kabana had many COVID precautions in place to ensure we had a safe evening. The party consisted of open bar and heavy hors d'oeuvres passed on trays while we enjoyed a nice evening on the rooftop bar. Nice food, nice vibe. read more

UPDATE: So, after my not so good experience in December, I was invited back to give them a second chance. Well, I'm glad I did! I went for my birthday celebration with some friends and had THE BEST TIME!!! Things have definitely changed since December. The staff was so welcoming and accommodating. Our waitress was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed at all times. The food and drinks were delicious and came out fast and hot! All of the staff wore masks and also enforced mask wearing while inside (once you go out, you could remove it). I was so impressed! Management was visible and making rounds to check on guests. Went there for a bday and we rented a kabana. It was super fun, and when we got the bottle service they brought it out in a super fun way. The staff was very nice. The only thing I would say is, they're gonna try to convince you that you need multiple kabanas and that the kabana only "comfortably fits 8 people." But if some of your group is going to be standing, chatting, etc I would say you can fit way more than that into one kabana. Plus when you have two kabanas it kinda splits your group up which isn't fun. But yeah, overall very fun! read more
