Mast-o khiar ($4.95/$7.95), a version of Greek tzatziki, a yogurt and cucumber dip, serves as a wonderful accompaniment to the tasty falafel. Light, but filling, the traditional falafel wrap ($9.95) includes delicious hummus, crispy lettuce and fresh tomato topped with tahini sauce and wrapped in Lavash bread. The American side of the menu features yummy burgers, from the "classic," a 1/3 pound beef patty, mayo, lettuce, tomatoes and onion served on a sesame bun ($9.95) to the more adventurous "Mediterranean," a koobideh (a combination of ground lamb and beef and numerous spices), mayo, herbs, and feta cheese on a sesame bun ($9.95). I love coming to this restaurant because it reminds me of my mom's cooking. In my family we have a tradition to have chicken or beef kabob almost every Sunday. Coming here brings back happy childhood memories. The kabob especially the red meat is absolutely delicious and juicy. They also make excellent Persian tea and the baklava is scrumptious. Haven't been in since 2016, really? Didn't seem that long ago that my buddy and I had a family platter here and enjoyed it very much, for lunch! Today is still very consistent and memorable. I had the koobideh and chicken kabobs with saffron rice and hummus. Perfectly juicy and just enough on the seasoning. A bit too little on the rice, had to order extra rice and bread as there was so much meat leftover. The rice was an entree sized oval plate, wow quite alot for just a little and it was the small size when I saw the receipt. Ana was super busy with inside, outside, and take out customers but everything came out perfectly and on a timely basis. Thanks for the hustle Ana. Will be back more to experience. The chicken here is one of the best things I have ever eaten. Anywhere. Seriously. The seasoning and the texture are incomparable. It's so tender and juicy and flavorful. The barg and the lamb are also delicious. I had never had barg before, and I'm sold! Again, the flavoring and texture are top notch. The hummus is great, as are the salads. I have not had anything I did not like! I also really enjoy the customer service. Each time I've been there, I have found the staff super friendly and attentive. They are also very warm and willing to share tips about their recipes, which is awesome. There aren't many tables inside, but we haven't found it overly crowded when we've gone. Parking is tricky because there generally isn't parking right in front, and the back lot can really fill up. This is one of my favorite places to eat in San Rafael! I'll be back. read more

My first visit to Kababbq occurred several years ago when I ordered a one-dimensional Persian stew eaten while gazing longingly at the plates of those I'd dined with. I knew the place was good and that stew likely authentic but damn, I wished I'd ordered differently. It took years and some incredible yelp deals to lure me back. What was previously a bustlingly full restaurant was almost empty the night of my visit though I couldn't help noticing a steady stream of to-go orders walking out the door. This funky strip mall is filled with people and they've likely figured out that Kababbq is best in class for Marin Persian cuisine. But back to those "deals". Kababbq is currently offering a yelp deal which nets you $30 worth of food for a $15 investment. Folks, that's 50% off and even Groupon doesn't offer deals that good anymore and certainly not at places as tasty as this. Then, over-order and pay with the credit card you've linked through yelp's cash back program and -ka-ching- you'll get a 7% rebate on the additional amount you spend. All of this would mean nothing if the food weren't good and this time I ordered right: 2 Koobideh with saffron rice and your choice of an additional side ($15). I was beyond satisfied with my delicious accompaniment of mast-o-khiar but really, I was completely enamored of the whole meal. Take advantage of the yelp offers and Kabbbq is currently the best food at the best price in all of Marin. Surely you're not still sitting there. Grab that yelp deal and give it a try. All you've got to lose is a single, sad, self-prepared meal eaten in the confines of your kitchen. This is far better, trust. read more

We had lunch here on a Sunday afternoon. We were greeted and seated quickly. The waitress got our water and tea for my wife and took our orders right away. Good for us since we were starving. We ordered 2 Koobideh, 1 lamb kabob, and 1 chicken kabob, along with an eggplant appetizer, Kashk-e bademjan. The food came out in about 10-15 minutes. Very reasonable. The appetizer came out in about 5 minutes. The koobideh was very good. We've had this dish many times at several different Persian/Mediterranean restaurant so we had a pretty good idea of what good koobideh tastes like. This didn't disappoint. My wife and I enjoyed the 4 skewers! My kids ordered the chicken and lamb. Judging from what was left, they had no problems wit their orders. All plates had a huge amount of rice. The rice was good, but I've had better. I probably should have added a little butter. I gotta say, though, that eggplant appetizer was fantastic. It was $9.00, but well worth it for us. We totally killed it! Being from San Jose, we probably won't make it out here too much, but we'd definitely be back if in the area. Last little tidbit...I left my credit card there! The lady on the phone was quick to offer to mail it back to me. I thought that was totally above and beyond normal service. The kabob platters are amazing!!! Both in terms of flavour, and in portion size. Don't believe me? Check out the pictures. I had heard a lot about it, and today I regretted that I hadn't come here sooner. I asked for the "combination platter b", where we get a choice of two kinds of kebabs (except for two special items which they had set aside as "combination a"), and two sides; I went for the grilled shrimps and chicken, with a side of saffron rice, and the shirazi --- the closest I can come to describing it is as a greek salad without the olives. The other sides, as I remember, were hummus (with lavash bread), green salad, BBQ tomato, and a yogurt-cucumber dip. The chicken was the epitome of juiciness and rich flavours. I went gaga over it. The shrimps were charred just right and I chewed up the crispy crunchy tails too (yea, I am a glutton). The saffron rice was basmati rice done right. The long grains of the rice was so pronounced that my colleague remarked he had never seen rice that long, and that it looked like shredded cheddar cheese. Mixed in with a spoonful of the shirazi, the meal was heavenly! The same colleague asked for a medium-rare lamb kebab (and shrimps) and was a wee bit disappointed that it came in medium at best; but he had no cause for complaints as he enjoyed it thoroughly nonetheless. As we were thwarted by Michael's Sourdough being closed on Black Friday, I quickly tried to find another place to have lunch before our nice jaunt around Tomales Bay State Park. I found Kababbq. I do like a place with punny names and a nice banter between the bf and I around the correct spelling and pronunciation of the place. But I digress. No one was there, parking was easy. We got the special of the day which was a koobideh with half salad and half rice ($8.95). I think the server was a little sad that we only ordered one, but one order generally feeds us. He came back after he gave us the food and was like...was that enough? Clearly he underestimates the amount of food they served. The koobideh was surprisingly moist. I've encountered my fair share of koobidehs and they generally are dry. So kudos to them. The only thing I would have to say was not to my liking was the overdressed salad. Came in around 6pm on a Sunday and the place was decently crowded, considering how secluded the place is. Use Google maps to navigate your way here, as we had slight issues using Waze to do the job. No need to worry about parking as the plaza boasts plentiful spots. I ordered the ground sirloin kebab plate while my boyfriend had the boneless chicken kebab plate. Both of our meat were really flavorful and juicy. I was really surprised by my boyfriend's chicken, as the chicken breast was not dry at all. We both greatly enjoyed the hummus as well. I do recommend having the shirazi as your second side, as it is nice and refreshing to offset the heavier meat kebab and hummus. Service was pretty standard. The only thing that bothered me were the 3 flies I saw flying around the restaurant. They did not hover over me during this visit, but it was gross to see. However, the boyfriend reassured me it was due to the fact that we were by the water and that the restaurant doors were open to let in a breeze. We have been coming here for a few years now and the food has never failed to impress. We always order the Koobideh ( my favorite of all times), and the eggplant appetizer( kashkh bademjan) which is to die for! The service has always been very good. They all seem like a small family working together, although they are really not. This place is not in the best area, and seem a little sketchy outside at times, but not dangerous at all. The inside is a very modest decor. They probably could use a little updating in decor, but we don't come here for that. It would be a big difference if they made the place a little more modern. Altogether, a very good place to frequent. It's the only Persian Restaurant in Marin, and I will take it. read more

I also like ordering party rice / meat plates as my "meal prep" so that my family has lunch taken care of for the week. It's also great just for regular lunches and dinners. Fresh food. FIRST TIME (2011): What great kabob wraps. Will go every chance. You have to eat the wraps there so that the bread does not get too soggy. LAST TIME (June 2017): Went there after many years and was so happy to take others with me. I bragged about the place, and was so disappointment. "The Service" ... I ordered a "Doog" and never got it. The wraps were a dollar more than what was listed in the menu. The waiter never showed up after the delivery, not even to check on us, hence could not ask for the Doog. I even had to go and get our bill. The guy could not even bother looking in our direction. "The Quality" ... The bread was straight out of the plastic bag, was never warmed or toasted. The ends were not wrapped (you figure the Mexicans working in the kitchen would know how to wrap a "burrito looking" piece of bread), and the entire thing was placed in tear-proof butcher paper (see image). So, in eating it, the whole thing fell apart as you wrestled with the paper. The tomatoes were canned and not fresh in the least (see image). They added this ginormous non-Persian "dildo" of a pickle (see image) to the meal which tasted like formaldehyde. It was quite gross. The rice was not Basmaty, it was more like short-grain sushi rice. The kabob had been cooked earlier that day or the day before, as the wraps showed up 2 minutes after ordering, was cold, and sadly flavorless. This time around, the best thing was the free lollipops we got at the counter. Can't recommend this place. read more

I was standing there for more then 5 minutes waiting just to order to go. She finally takes my order and complained of why I'm ordered so many tomatoes why even ask that!! Then I go on my way to wait for my order I come back to pick it up and she's by the door she's sees me come in and says in a rude voice your food is over there. I go grab it and wait for the condiments she didn't realize I I'm waiting so I ask her she comes to grab it for me and literally throws it on the counter.
