Amazing all you can eat sushi and Japanese food. In fact it is the best we have had. Montreal seems to have many places for that compared to most of the US, so we were excited to try it and it did not disappoint. It was a bit of a wait to get in even on a Wednesday night in November as we did not have a reservation but they promptly seated us. There are two floors so it is crowded but spacious enough for plenty of food at each table. They have lots of sushi you can't even get at most sit down places in the US including lots of torched nigiri and roll options. The salmon don and ramen were great as well as were the desserts. The service was prompt and we ordered with an iPad. We tried some great sake too. The only complaint regarding service is they gave us a plate for another table but it happens. Would love to come back here again in Montreal as this may be the best of many AYCE sushi places but would love to try another one too. The food at K2 Sushi was actually pretty good, which is the only reason this review gets two stars instead of one. However, the service was some of the worst I have experienced in Montreal. There is a male host/front-of-house staff member who is extremely rude and does not know how to speak to customers. He was impolite from the start, and the situation got worse as the night went on. We were a group of four. We placed our order and waited 30 minutes, only to find out that the restaurant had cancelled and thrown out our order. Meanwhile, we watched people who arrived after us getting their food. When we asked why we had no sushi, we were simply told, "Sorry, we lost your order, please order again." When our food finally arrived, the same rude host brought it to our table. He literally threw the plates down and walked away without saying a word. To top it off, they automatically added a tip to the bill, which felt aggressive considering how poorly we were treated. They did not deserve that tip. I do want to express out Rebecca, our waitress, need retraining, ande the male host completely ruined the experience. He is the reason I will never recommend this restaurant. I walked into to the restaurant expecting more, my llunch guest was meeting 2 work colleagues from out-of-town. Lunch truly caters to the student population. The food was incredible, the sushi was very fresh, spring rolls very tasty, shrimp tempura was delightful. My companion ordered and thoroughly enjoyed the eel. I went here for the first time to celebrate my birthday with some friends from school. It's well located and nicely decorated but very strict! The people who serve you are all so uptight. They make sure to optimize the seating and they'll push your bags out of the way if it interferes with the path they've drawn out to serve. There are cameras everywhere, they have two people watching the doors in case you dine and dash I guess? They serve everything really hurriedly. Even the message on the Ipad before you place your order is strict (you will pay for any waste and/or damages). A waitress did screw up one of our orders, she gave us shrimp tempura by mistake but they took it away without any trouble. Just like Sushi Crystal, the tablet locks you out after the first order and you must ask a server to unlock it before ordering again. Prices are a bit more expensive then the other surrounding AYCE sushi places. Quality is good, their K2 roll is original. They had good avocado rolls and the salmon was fresh. I order really basic stuff though so I usually prefer sushi places that charge less and maybe aren't as fancy. Like most sushi places they will force you to tip 15% and anything slightly below will insult them. Overall I'd give this ayce sushi place a 3.5/5. The menu is pretty standard as with most ayce sushi restaurants, and it's provided electronically on an ordering tablet. This format is certainly very convenient and allows you to scroll through at your leisure, and the pictures are very helpful, especially if you're unfamiliar with sushi and Asian food. Some more descriptions would be helpful though, especially for the rolls, since I'd like to know what's inside each one. What was rather annoying about the ordering tablet is that the order is not submitted directly to the kitchen. Rather, you have to wait for one of the staff to come by and enter the order in. Sometimes it would take a while before someone would notice you waiting, and it was altogether just more inconvenient. On to the food - I went for lunch, and honestly it's one of the better sushi deals downtown, with the major draw being that sashimi (salmon and escolar) are included in the lunch menu. Fisshu also has this, but overall I find the quality of the food at k2 to be better. The sushi, rolls, soup, and salads were all decent (keep in mind that this is ayce quality), and I didn't have any complaints about that, apart from the eel nigiri looking a bit skimpy. The sashimi was very good and thickly sliced. The teriyaki salmon was okay, though very sweet and a bit dry in texture. The general tso chicken was awful though, and I really regretted ordering it, since it came in a sizeable portion and was pretty much beyond redemption. It was dry and had a thick breading, and looked like they had fried a large chicken patty and cut it apart and drizzled with some sort of sauce. Service was pretty good. They were friendly and did their best, despite the restaurant being very busy. It was a bit hard to get their attention at times but that's understandable. It's a Monday! Most restaurants in downtown Montreal are closed on Monday. So after walking for several minutes we found this place open. Even without reservations we were seated after waiting 10-15 minutes. I was surprised that they have an upstairs dining area. Once seated the entire ordering and menu were on android pads which was easy to use and place our orders. Everything is ordered as single units. So when you order a tempura shrimp you just get one shrimp. So if you have a party of two and want two each, you need to tap the order four times. Initially we order two sashimi two shrimp tempura etc...that was way too little. Each order we placed got bigger and bigger. The cook beef were also very good and we really like the lamb skewers. Surprisingly we can order as much dessert as we liked. The fried bread (man-tou ) was a nice surprise. But overall the quality of the sashi does not compare to AYCE sushi in Los Angeles area or in Las Vegas. The quality of fish in LA and LV is so much higher. Overall the sushi and sashimi are passable. Not as fresh and not the best quality. But for AYCE, it good enough. At least the other non-fish items are quite good. Came here for a work lunch with a group of 10. The place has a very nice ambience, although sitting further back means it was a bit darker around our table. We ordered on a tablet which is very convenient, especially since it makes it easy to keep track of what you'd ordered (since it's an all-you-can-eat). Also, there are photos of all the foods so we did appreciate being able to see what we're ordering. I would definitely recommend trying the house specialty roll! Although we haven't found "The One" to fulfill our sushi needs in Montreal, K2 comes close! This way, you can see a more accurate image of what you're getting. FOOD// The portions were perfect. Each roll came with 4 pieces, so you can try a variety of food without feeling too full. Out of the dishes we got, the one that made a lasting impression were the Montreal Roll, K2 Roll, and torched salmon sashimi. SERVICE// They were super friendly, and food came on time. They forgot about a drink we ordered, but quickly apologized and made it for us right away. I think it was a lychee drink that ended up tasting too strong on the alcohol, but that's okay. Called the restaurant 23 times throughout the afternoon. No one picked up the phone. My girlfriend really wanted to go to this place, so she went to the restaurant and finally got a table. The first dish was miso soup, the soup was cold already, and it is extremely salty. Also the AC above the seat drops a drop of water every 5 minutes, pretty annoying, we told this to the server. She said she will ask, then she never showed up again lol. We got mad, and we told another server that we want the bill and pay. He said "OK", then he disappeared as well. After 5 minutes, we asked another server. He said " if you want to pay, come to the front". I mean... Bruh... If I need to pay in the front, then just tell me first. The bill for two people was $80+, we barely ate any dishes. We sat outside and had a great view of Crescent. I was happy to see, we could make orders using a tablet. I don't think it is normal for someone to tell a customer "that's the way it works in Qc " followed by "the tip ain't included to the bill " after adding taxes to everything. The first time I went here, I loved it. BUT, every other time after that has been a let down!! What made me love K2 Bistro was their big, visually appealing makis, as well as the fun flavours used in some of their more unique sushi choices, such as the mango tango and the K2 roll (both very good, I really recommend trying both of those at least once). After the "magic" of my first visit, however, I found that they use WAY too much rice in their sushi. Not only does the excess rice distract from the other ingredients in the rolls (which should not be a thing, I want to be able to taste the freshness and individual tastes in the filling) and make the large makis more difficult than necessary to eat, but it left me feeling uncomfortably full after one modest order. Despite the fact that I actually really like the taste of their sushi, I will probably not come back for that reason, because it cut my experience short and made me feel like I didn't get my money's worth. There are many other AYCE sushi bars in Montreal that don't overstuff their sushi with fillers, and I know that I can eat way more sushi at those places ;) However, the worst part about this place has to be the customer service. The last time I went with my fiancé, it took the staff 15 minutes to acknowledge us at the door (which I was kinda offended by since there were a few staff members chatting idly a few feet away with their back turned to us...) and about an hour to seat the two of us. When we were seated, the waiters weren't very friendly; there was almost no verbal communication between us and them, orders would be served without a word said or a smile cracked. Perhaps some people might enjoy not having to make awkward chit-chat with your waiter, but I personally found that the staff gave off an unwelcoming vibe. Incredibly slow service at this place. As an all you can eat place, you can assume they are disinclined to bring you all the stuff you order. They totally "forgot" half our order or happened to be "sold out" on items like salmon skin. In case you were wondering, this place appears to be Chinese owned and/or operated, not Japanese. If you couldn't tell by the typos on the menu or the Cantonese banter among the wait staff, you can tell from the menu. They basically put mayo and teriyaki sauce with crab stick in everything. Very little available in terms of raw fish but it's definitely frozen fish thawed to room temperature. No salmon fish roe or uni, no tuna or hamachi.
