There are two floors so it is crowded but spacious enough for plenty of food at each table. They have lots of sushi you can't even get at most sit down places in the US including lots of torched nigiri and roll options. The salmon don and ramen were great as well as were the desserts. The service was prompt and we ordered with an iPad. We tried some great sake too. The only complaint regarding service is they gave us a plate for another table but it happens. Would love to come back here again in Montreal as this may be the best of many AYCE sushi places but would love to try another one too. All in all, this was a wonderful last meal in this amazing city.

There is a male host/front-of-house staff member who is extremely rude and does not know how to speak to customers. He was impolite from the start, and the situation got worse as the night went on. We were a group of four. We placed our order and waited 30 minutes, only to find out that the restaurant had cancelled and thrown out our order. Meanwhile, we watched people who arrived after us getting their food. When we asked why we had no sushi, we were simply told, "Sorry, we lost your order, please order again." When our food finally arrived, the same rude host brought it to our table. He literally threw the plates down and walked away without saying a word. To top it off, they automatically added a tip to the bill, which felt aggressive considering how poorly we were treated. They did not deserve that tip. I do want to express out Rebecca, our waitress, need retraining, ande the male host completely ruined the experience. He is the reason I will never recommend this restaurant. You need to do better.

The highlight of Sho-dan's arsenal is their assortment of specialty "concept" rolls which can be extreme in presentation, and atypical in taste, even to the most seasoned sushi ranger. My friends are Japanese restaurant enthusiasts and loved the quality of cuisine, from the tempura, to the slices of raw goodness, down to the perfectly matching sauces for each dish. Don't forget to get dessert sushi - the mango one is amazing. Dinner at Sho-dan blew my MIND. Be warned, prices are higher than average, but it's worth splurging for, just this once. Sho-Dan was VERY close to achieving the impossible - a 5 star sushi in landlocked Eastern Ontario. This place was fantastic service, high high quality fish, superb rolls, perfectly timed delivery to the bar where we sat.... Delicious cold sake and beer to accompany. I think the bill came out to $160 for the 2 of us (I didn't pay) but we left very full and content. Unfortunately, I cannot remember what we ordered (was a boozy night afterwards)....but 100% certain that I will recommend and be back.

The portions are small so don't expect to order 1-2 and be full. Between two people, we shared 5 dishes and we probably could have ordered 2 more. We tried a variety of items off their menu including one sashimi and one fried dish. Everything tasted good, was fresh and had different flavour profiles. I wasn't a huge fan of the matcha cheesecake because I found that there wasn't enough of a cheesecake taste. It cost us each 25$ before tip which I find pretty reasonable. Since we were still hungry, we also ordered an item on the regular menu - Unagi Aburi. Portion was extremely small with thin slivers of torched freshwater eel topped with sliced almonds and tobiko caviar. I wasn't sure if the yuzu honey sauce on the plate made a difference, but there's a lot of sweetness in the dish itself. Our favorite was the tebasaki though. Fried to a golden crisp, the wings were juicy with a light soy glaze. We loved it so much, we ordered another plate and because it was on happy hour, I didn't feel too bad or wasteful ordering up. Overall this is not a bad option for a cheap sushi, just not enough choices to make me go there every time we are in Montreal.
