The restaurant is beautiful. It has an intimacy that is appealing. The location is only open between 5-9. We showed up at 5:30 without a reservation and I wasn't sure we'd be able to snag a table. And honestly, if we had gotten there 15 minutes later, we probably would have had a long wait. So far, so good. We were seated at a table near the sushi bar and there was a vibration coming through the floor that was loud and a bit unpleasant. The prices were a little high which was a little off putting. But, we saw a couple of options - like a sushi boat - on their website ... but it turns out that is only for takeout, which is just weird. Service was slow and the wait staff disappeared at times. Normally, these things would have me deducting stars. But can I just say that the food was so darn good that I can overlook all of it. It was absolutely outstanding. Vegan sushi rich with umami. What a find. Our first night in Montreal and we show up without a reservation. We were seated right away. Our waitress was incredible. Kind, efficient, knowledgeable. The food: delicious, creative, beautiful presentation, plentiful. My carnivore partner didn't miss the fish at all. We have a vegan sushi restaurant near us, but Bloom is better. There are not enough words to describe how incredible this experience was. Bloom Sushi came highly recommended and they did not disappoint. I went with 4 other friends and we decided to order a spread of rolls (see receipt). The staff told us what was what when the food arrived, but we were so excited, I couldn't actually keep track of what was what All of the rolls were delicious and the rolls that contained jalapeños weren't spicy, in case anyone was worried about that. The rolls containing mushroom were MAGICAL and... now I'm hungry again. Definitely need to go back the next time I am in Montreal. I'll realistically be ordering everything I ordered the first time again because it was absolutely phenomenal. Will have to take better notes in the future... for science. Stumbled upon bloom late at night looking for a place to eat and I'm so glad we found this place . I hadn't noticed that majority of the menu is vegetarian rolls , but I was willing to try . This vegan sushi bar stands out! We tried a bunch of different rolls and absolutely loved the crispy rice with mushrooms. I think you cannot go wrong with anything you order here! The place is fairly priced for the quality of food. I also liked their gratuity ranges, unlike many other high end restaurants it does not start at 18 or 22%. This is an honest review so I had to mention the gratuity range because it was a welcome change! I would recommend this place to vegans/ vegetarian and even meat eaters who try something different! Bloom is a beautiful sushi place with a Zen ambience. The food was amazing. Staff were attentive and helpful. Stoneware used was well selected and complimented each dish. My partner and I ordered a few items on the menu. We had the Mr. Crunch roll (Fried Oyster mushroom, shitake mushroom, tempura, avocado, masago arare, tartar sauce) ($14), Matcha ice cream ($7), The La Fiesta roll (Sweet potato, avocado, jalapeno, tempura, spicy sauce, sriracha, pesto (5 pieces) ($8), Mushroom tartar (oyster mushroom, enoki mushroom, shiitake mushroom and avocado, truffle with miso tartar sauce and taro chip) ($17), and Salmon Sashimi (konjac salmon, ponzu sauce, apple and caviar) ($15). My partner was blown away by how phenomenal the Mr. Crunch roll and the Mushroom Tartar were. He raved about it for the rest of the evening. I have never seen him so excited about food. This is a real testament to the power of a composed dish. I literally had to remind him to romaine calm and lettuce carrot on after our great meal at Bloom. It was amazing to have more than 1 option to choose from and to feel fulfilled like other non vegetarian sushi diners do. And in the end it was quite good, and the room was beautiful and the service was wonderful and the wine and presentation were great and... perhaps we just ordered a bit off. We got the chefs choice sharing plate and I found that there was just too much going on flavourwise. The tastes were very much like those at Sushi Momo, which is to be expected, and I guess I was hoping for a little more subtlety, perhaps more focus on special heirloom vegetables and their beautiful flavours rather than on sauces and spice combinations and dips. I have tried many sushi options and this place is delicious. I truly loved the Queen, Kamikaze, Dragon Eyes, Cucumber and Avocado Rolls. The portions are great it's a bigger piece for the larger rolls and great bite size for the cucumber and avocado. They always add napkins and utensils for deliveries which I love. I have a few friends who are vegan or enjoy plant base meals and so I was really excited to try out this new vegan sushi place. Located in the heart of the Montreal Old Port, I was expecting an overpriced menu and long waiting times. However their online ordering system makes it simple to put your order through and go pick it up so as to avoir unnecessary wait. I ordered an Omakase for 2 which include miso soups, gyosas (fried dumplings) and 25 pieces. Now for my thoughts on this: The soups were okay, nothing to rave about. It was mostly broth with some pieces of tofu and seaweed. The gyozas weren't great. They tastes like they were store bought or frozen. The main component, the sushis looked great but were extremely salty. They had put salt flakes on the top and on the sauce at the bottom. We were two peoples and stopped eating after a couple pieces each. The place has potential. For 58$ + taxes, I expected a bit more. In comparison with other vegan sushi places, this one did not measure up. read more

Every dish is creative and contains various flavour. Even drinks manu has it's own specialty. We total six people, and we had tasting manu ($36 /person), total 71~75 pieces of sushi, including soup and appetizers, the amount of food is just perfect portion for each one of us. The Lu offered to wash and prepare separately our items due to my son with celiac . Our only issue was the number of items they offer as " can be wheat free" on their online menu is actually significantly lower once you get to the restaurant. It was still delicious and accommodating , but at least as of the writing of this review , be warned of much less choice . Most of us from our group of 8 went with the sharing menu where for 36$ we shared enough food to fit an army including a delicious miso soup, the veggie gyoza, sushi platter with over 10 different sushi, and finally match ice cream for desert. We absolutely loved the food! The sushi was especially delicious and creative; great flavour combinations and in some cases, like the Bollywood, wildly unexpected! We had also ordered a few cocktails and although the flavour was there the alcohol was lacking. Opt for a table rather than banquets as they seemed to be uncomfortable to rest your back on! This place is amazing, vegan or no vegan. Flavors, textures, colors were so rich in each thing we ate or drank. Started with Haiku, a delicious sweet (grapefruit) gin cocktail with complex flavors and just the right amount of alcohol, ice and flavors. Then had delicious miso soup, was rich but not thick. The shiitake mushroom had almost a sweet flavor. Yum. Then fried gyoza with an almond sauce- crunchy on the outside and fresh on the inside. We ordered the deluxe mix of sushi along with a few others (can't remember all the names). Each one was so beautifully presented. For the vegan diner among us, the ones that were pseudo-fish tasted very fishy to her. For the non-vegans, tasted delicious with a hint of the salmon or tuna but not particularly fishy. We absolutely loved Mr. Crunchy-it has truffle flavor in it. And the ones with beet couldn't be beat (haha). We sat at the bar and got to watch the chefs at work. They were painstaking in their efforts, taking lots of time to make sure each one was perfect. The service was lovely too. All around a not to be missed experience. (Kind of pricy but I think it was worth it- it is not your casual sushi bar). read more
