We brought our 7-year-old son to K1 Racing in Thousand Oaks specifically for their youth night, excited for a fun family evening. Their own website clearly states to arrive at 6pm, with no mention of calling ahead, no reservation system, no waitlist. So that's exactly what we did. We arrived on time only to be turned away because the spots were already gone. Apparently there's an unwritten rule that regulars know to call ahead, information conveniently absent from their website. When we asked the general manager, Cameron, why this wasn't communicated anywhere publicly, her repeated response was essentially "we're popular", offered with the self-satisfaction of someone who sees no problem with the situation. No apology. No empathy. No acknowledgment that their website is actively misleading customers. Just a shrug and a reminder that this is "how you learn for next time." My son was in tears. What's most frustrating isn't the miscommunication, it's the attitude. A good manager finds a way to soften the blow, acknowledge the failure, and make a family feel heard. Cameron did none of that. When I pointed out that if calling ahead is policy, it should be stated publicly, she had no real answer, just more deflection about how popular they are. K1 may be too busy to care about losing one family's business, but we had been planning a birthday party there. That won't be happening. First time here and came on Veterans Day. They were having a BOGO and offer was valid. I didn't know what to expect but it was a fun experience! First race I placed low and then the second race, I finished in third place. You get the hang of it after a couple of races but overall, fun and they make sure you are safe. Sad to say K1 Speed Thousand Oaks was a terrible experience. Based on feedback from the staff, it's a systemic issue across all the locations in and surrounding the Los Angeles area. They were clearly embarrassed and also frustrated with the situation. Seems like they've lost confidence in their corporate leadership. The staff was great but the karts were in dismay. This isn't some crappy kart track. K1 Speed charge premium prices for what should be a premium experience. I get it, there's variables beyond control but here's the bottom line of my experience.. First race: karts battery died mid race. They literally pushed a different kart onto the track for me to use to complete the session. This second car chronically did not let off the throttle when I took my foot completely off the peddle. That's very unsafe and totally unpredictable. They ended up giving me a free race. On that race, the car had a flat tire! At this point I chatted with the manager and was basically told that everything I was describing to her of my experience is business as usual there. I was scouting this place out for a team event. No way I'd bring anyone here knowing what I know and I experienced. They've got some nerve charging $30 per race. They can credit me again but what's the point? I welcome the opportunity to chat with K1's leadership. They have a team at Thousand Oaks that aims to please and feels like their not getting the support they need yet they're the one that have to face disappointed customers. All week my son looked forward to doing K1 with three of his friends for his 13th birthday. You can't pre-book a race time for 4 people, but you CAN buy your tickets in advance (make it make sense). We arrived just after they opened and were told they might be able to race, but also they might not. Could maybe squeeze them into one race in an hour, or it might be 6:30pm. I asked the boys if they wanted to grab food and do the arcade until they could race in an hour, but the employee said we could do that but we also might wait an hour and still not be able to race?? There were zero people racing while we were in there, one group of 8 getting ready to race. The employee could not have been less helpful if he tried. Super disappointed. Be careful they miss calling names for people registered for races...We visited K1 Racing around 1:30 p.m. with our 7-year-old, and we were initially told there were no birthday parties when we asked, so the wait would only be about 10 minutes...After 25 minutes, we checked again and were then informed a birthday party would delay us another 45 minutes. Ultimately, the waiting times kept changing throughout the day. After one race, we were told the second race would happen after 20 minutes. When we checked back, we found out they had run the second race without us even calling our name--none of us heard it, and my son didn't get to race. After more delays, they said the next opening would be 2 more hours. My son only got one race out of three races they sold us. The situation was frustrating, and the communication could have been much clearer. It felt like our concerns were brushed aside. No offer to credit our money back for the two missed races. Just one race credit to use at k1 in the future. I hope they improve their scheduling and communication in the future. My son left quite upset. Fix your kart problem. This place is great for just having fun with friends but the karts die and are unreliable and screws over the ones who do the karting competition leagues. We pay money to enter these championships hoping to make it to the state for the karts to die during the races. Last night the top 2 got screwed over in points and the response was "you know what you sign up for" . We don't know this will happen so frequently and during the competitions. Most of the staff is great ( Cameron is amazing btw) but there's a few rude ones. Especially the tattooed guy who gave that response and walked away. These karts really need to be fixed especially when we're paying to compete in the championship leagues. read more

I will like to start off by saying that from my first review, we def had a better experience. I will start off with the pros and things that were very good. We had my son's bday party here and customer service all around was very nice and sweet. Taylor Boyd from the corporate who assisted us in our contract and setting up the event via email and phone was the absolute sweetest! The staff today, was also very friendly. Every person was very nice and have no complaints about them. The food was pretty good -nothing crazy other than wings and sliders, we did request lemon pepper wings and got just regular wings but they were good either way. We loved the huge party room you get, it was a lot bigger than we anticipated and thought it was great. The room was nice and the wall mural was pretty cool. Arcade cards were great too. Sorry -lengthy issues explanation. - the first was I originally RSVPD 9 kids, spoke with Taylor via email and on phone regarding the situation of the personal reason why 1 kid was unable to attend. I also received a call from Gabe confirming everything for the party 2 days prior as well, he was also very nice and great customer service--he did confirm that we do not pay till the end to ensure that we had a proper head count. When we arrived to the party, we did confirm with the front if we could pay - they advised it is at the end to ensure how many racers, how many extra items would be ordered. With that being said- we also spoke with 2 diff poeple the gentleman with brown hair and 1 nice lady- both confirmed that with the 1 kid who could not make it, we would not be charged at the end. I asked probably few more times to ensure that was accurate.. both confirmed it was, however at the end the receipt showed the extra charge. I went to the front and asked to adjust the headcount and I was told that because we booked online- we were unable to do that, I had to explain that I already spoke with the planner online and on phone as well as the 2 other employees who acknowledged they could remove the extra racer charges, too which he ended up doing so but as an event-- I get it you need to make your money as a business but to try to tell someone you have to pay for someone who did not race or par take when I notified you all in advance was a bit irritating. -We paid to rent a camera on our son's helmet in the qualifying race to get a video of his race, we did forget to get the paper receipt right away that gives you the link but did go back and they gave us 2 papers just in case and advised us to go through both JR races (the only 2 that happened during our time frame) and 1 of them was ours. The first video was not our child...the 2nd video was our child but it was upsetting that the video started with our child driving to park his racecar, taking his helmet off and walking out of the race track and placing his helmet on the rack-- and the process of the next racers for 1.5 min as his helmet stayed on the rack. Yes it was only 7.50 for the rental but you would expect to get the video of your child..instead I got the end of the race and a video of the helmet literally sitting on a rack after his ended and the other link was a different child. That was a bummer especially since our son really wanted to see the video. - As for the event itself, I get it that they advise you food is to come after the final race but having many diff birthday parties at different places, this was not organized to benefit a kids party. I wish that they atleast had pitchers of water for the kids, or something until the food came out or allowed us to bring out door food, snacks or something. The time frame you wait before your race, and the time frame you wait after your practice race has the kids just sitting in there watching tv, we did end up buying drinks and snacks to hold them off but I feel maybe they could of done food in between, like food while they waited after their practice race or something and drinks not till the very end. They also ask the whole party get there 30 minutes before so for atleast 30 minutes they are just waiting.it just seems better to have that option to bring in food and snacks (other than desserts) for them to utilize in that big room during the non racing times. - We did get asked twice if there was anything they can do for us but in reality, we did say no..because there wasn't anything, I wish they did have a host when the food came out. It was left in the room for us to give--yes it is buffet style but they did not explain the drinks part, they said for all kids to go to the front of the bar to get their drinks which too me if we are hosting the event, it seems better to have taken the drink orders and have them there--my husband ended up asking the guy if he can bring them and offered the 2nd time to get it himself and bring the tray because the guy did not seem to want to. Someone is there fraudulently using my information to spend money racing and I tried calling them to alert them and to tell them the situation and nobody there cares. I was transferred several times before the person some man at the Thousand Oaks location hung up on me So if you want your information used fraudulently K1 speed is your place to go. Well, the things I could say about this track is it's very well maintained. I think the staff does a really good job at doing a safety equipment check and very thorough with the rules of Racing on the track. They really helped me out with my helmet strap and I also had a great experience after my racing. The car seemed to handle very well. I had an excellent chat with the Mechanic ran. He ha some good tips on getting the fastest lap. Ricky did a great job on explaining why the car handle so good after they get an alignment and wheel bearings installation done really helps with having a new brake cable as well. They really know what they're doing with these go carts! I would Thank them for their service. When you come into race with family and friends the best management and teamwork. I went in around noon for 3 races it was empty so I had a lot of fun and it was good for me cuz I don't want to slow people down or be slowed down I could race at my own speed and get to know the track since I was the only one they gave me lots of tips and tricks on how to best maneuver the course there were all very nice and will absolutely come back again read more

Very professionally run electric go-cart racing place. I liked that K-1 took safety very seriously. With very good helmets, excellent lighting for good visibility and instruction on how to drive vehicle. The track itself is large enough to drive the carts to the maximum and still be safe - including spectators. It's all computerized. Including your signup and your speed times displayed on monitors and a print out of your speed trial compared to the other racers. The place is very clean and there's adequate seating for before and after the race to share stories of the epic race. Food is limited so you might want to make plans to eat before or after the race. Expect to pay about $25 per race. Each race includes 12 laps around the track. You are timed for each lap around the track. Your best time around the track determines your standing versus the other riders in your group. Great fun. read more

Absolutely terrible experience. Very poor customer service! Arrived at 11:30, was told "sorry we have a large group, we cannot get your party of two in until 2:30". I paid for one race @ 2:30 and was told, "you should get here early, around 2:10 as we may be running early". Arrived @ 2:07 and was told, "sorry we are running behind it's now going to be 3:00. My second time at a K1 speed. Its been 10 years. Went here today for my kids 15th birthday party, on a whim because I thought a bunch of teenagers would like it. We did the whole 2 race deal w food etc. Ian and all the rest of the staff are amazing, and most importantly the kids had a blast. The track is super fun and all facilities are top notch. I raced too, but couldn't beat out the #1 driver, not for lack of trying. If you want something exiting for your teens to do for a bday this is your ticket. There was no notice about this closure posted online. For a business that typically caters to walk-in customers, it would be helpful and respectful to clearly communicate closures or events on your website or social media. Go Karts launch onto other go karts. Do not take your children here. Be aware of safety flaws at K1 racing. They do not provide suitable instruction to their drivers. Be aware that their go karts are capable of launching up onto other go karts upon collision. I can speak from experience as my son had another go kart launch onto him upon impact breaking his clavicle bone severe enough to require surgery. A message to anyone who decides to take their friend or family to this specific K-1 speed location. I truly believe every one of the staff intend to have a safe fun time for all, however there is a huge lack of respect and communication in the management. My friend and I got two races each, I paid 119.33 for everything including her membership as she had never raced before. Apparently my racing in the first race was "too aggressive" without telling me or having any heads up during the first lap of my second race all the cars stopped and Ricky (the manager) came up to my car, from the first word he was being disrespectful, and ultimately blamed ME ALMOST GETTING T-BONED on me! how can being hit on the driver side be my fault? i asked that question exactly, he told me "it's a matter of your bad driving" from that moment i knew i didn't want to continue the race and i politely asked for a refund, to which he told me i would not be receiving one. well a few phone calls to corporate with some very helpful people like Gabby, and Bianca, ultimately led me to Raplh the district manager, who was wonderful on the phone explaining all sides of the story, and we both agreed on 2 of the 4 races being refunded. (much more than my initial ask to Ricky of just the race i was kicked off of). I'm grateful for the people who worked hard to make it right. Unfortunately one bad apple can ruin a whole experience for someone however i would possibly be open to another race at another location in the future thanks to everyone's hard work! the one star is for Ricky, not for everyone who had to fix his mistakes. Really appreciate the customer service at K1Speed! Cameron the manager's flexibility made our experience memorable by allowing my son and his friend to ride together. ( Even though they were in different age/height category ) The equipment, such as the helmets and karts, were in good condition. The indoor track is well designed and clean, with cool amenities. The staff were helpful and pretty diligent with safety. Everyone was super helpful and friendly. Highly recommended! read more

I called these clowns when they opened and said i was bringing 3 kids down to race will they be able to and they told me there would be no problem so i drove the three kids all the 90 mins to the race track but when we got here they said they were sold out for next 4 hours. they were nice about it but honestly sucks to do that to kids. read more

It's your typical in-door karting, always fun racing period. Course was fun, but for the price super expensive. I'd rather do a full day of AutoCross or save for a full track. I guess if your local and want a quick enjoyment this is good. We brought a party of 10 for arrive and drive and staff wouldn't give a discount. They said "there isn't a discount button." As for the food, we had ordered fries and nachos. Both items had cheese on them, and it seemed as they microwaved the cheese onto the food. Fries were like mash potatoes glued with cheese. Nachos barely had any items on them sprinkle of jalapeños and tomatoes and a splash of sour cream. Again, for the price not really worth the experience. We really like this place. My son had a 8th Birthday celebration there. Nice staff, very good food. Kids enjoyed it very much.

It was a bad and sad experience. There was two age groups of kids in our party, but because of staff's mistake , the older kids were unable to race at all. The manager decided to split them into groups, and then just took the names of older kids from the race list completely. After arguing with the manager, we were told to wait for two hours if older kids want to race, because during the party you have a busy schedule and can't do anything. Terrible. read more
