We got there at 730pm on a Saturday and didn't race till 10pm. We were told our entire party of 6 couldn't race together so only 4 signed up. Then when we were about to race it was just 6 total people!! There wasn't enough time for our other two people to go pay and get on the race so they didn't get to go. The workers don't communicate well but weren't rude by any means. It's also annoying that the price is not the price. They charge an extra 7.50 to each race for "membership" fees. I dont know why they don't just add that in to the total price instead of adding that. The only reason they have 2 stars is because the race itself was really fun. I would've love to go more if the wait wasn't so long and the price wasn't so steep. read more

I want to share our wonderful experience today for my son's 10th birthday. I was slightly concerned based on some reviews I saw about wait times, but we walked right in and the manager, Emerson, could not have been kinder! He helped me get registered quickly and got the 5 kids ready to go. Brandon aka Bugatti, was so patient and helped explain the rules to the kids. He answered all of our questions. K1 a great place to go spend an hour competing in a couple of races. The prices are a bit expensive but they offer package deals. The go-kart zip around the track at a fairly high speed which makes it incredibly fun for some. Another great thing is they also offer score cards at the end of the race with everyones lap times, your best lap-times and what place you finished. I also noticed that the track hasn't change in many years, which is kinda boring for regulars but also helps you see your improvements. The staff are hit or miss, some are very easy to communicate with while others are somewhat distant. I also found that all the karts kind ride differently. One kart was fun to drive and handled really well, while the other felt like i was bouncing around on a jack hammer. Which kind of made it exhausting and took away the fun in it. I went to K1 Speed today expecting to have a exhilarating time for my friends birthday party. However, I was brutally dissatisfied by the horrendous staff team. I came in 3rd in the first race with no problems, however on the 2nd race after catching up to and passing the person in 1st place the staff members in charge of controlling the carts speed slowed down my cart to around 2 mph. I glance to my left to see if everyone else is having the same issue, but to my surprise I see everyone zooming past me. The only time the members of the K1 staff team increased my vehicles maximum velocity was when they wanted to pull into the recharging station, they started giving me commands at very low decibel level, and while wearing the helmet, I was not able to hear them. After continuing around the path, they shut off my car and start yelling at me for not parking my car. Although this doesn't personally bother me to much, it's more about the principle of the matter. I don't want this to affect little kids trying to be competitive while also having an enjoyable time. Although previous experiences were enjoyable, this one has changed my mind drastically about this place. read more

Since my last review was removed by the yelp crew: here's another. The staff are clearly younger and lack work ethic. I blame management a little. We were here on Jan 8th and were told it was a 3 hour wait. We paid for our taxes, grabbed dinner and returned half hour before as instructed. There was a sassy young unprofessional make that told us we still had an hour and a half. My husband told him what we were told before and the arrogant snot argued and said you bought your tickets at 6- you still have an hour and a half. Mind you, it was 830 , we were supposed to race at 9. The kid can't add. He told us he checked us in we go when they call us. We paid for 3 races. After 2 we waited an hour for our third and we never got called. I used the restroom and it was disgusting. Toilet paper all over- used! The staff stood around and chatted, vaped, raced while we waited. We asked finally when could we get our third they said we only had two. We had to prove we bought three. They got us in after that- it was 11:30 pm. I suggest management to watch their staff, they clearly don't know how to work. read more

Don't bother coming here go to COTA instead. My son and I showed up mid-week 7/7/22 around 130pm. Parking lot not busy and about 15 people in the waiting area inside. No cars were running. When we went to pay for a few races I was told it was a 3 hour wait to race. They must have 2 working cars if that's the case because there just weren't enough people for that wait time. COTA track never has that kind of wait time and with traffic around k1's location it might be about the same travel time. It clear the staff are beaten down, they have a 'dont care' face and probably have to deliver this news to a lot of people. While I was polite I told the gal we weren't looking to wait 3 hours we were hoping to race this afternoon. My mistake for reading the reviews and thinking these types of things were a weekend issue, they're just an issue. I mentioned to people on the way out not to waste their time unless they had 3 hours. They turned around and went back to their cars. Owners, no one in their right mind expects to wait long times during the week. I highly recommend instead of spending money on advertising you fix your business model. Wait times are key, and should be less then 30 minutes for your regular run business model. read more

Very displeased after bringing in hundreds of dollars worth of business on a weekday. I organized an event last week there of about 15 people. Tried calling ahead 3-4x to discuss, and impossible to get through to talk to someone. Phones systems are jacked. The prices advertised online are wrong. In person they charge you a $9 membership and $1 more per race. How is this such a big company yet blatantly false advertising? We had to wait close to 1.5hrs for our 1st race, then an additional hour for our 2nd. I ordered chicken tenders that took 45mins to come out, and when they finally did, the employee took them to someone else and said they were extra..causing me to wait 20more minutes to get my food re-made. We had a friendly prize competition based off lap times and our 1st race the karts were slowed down, totally messing up our competition. Each race we had, 1-2 karts broke down first lap causing a 5min delay while they pushed it off course and replaced. 10/10 not recommended.. Go to Pinballz or COTA read more

We arrived at facility at 7:15pm, registered & paid for 1 race. Attendant said our race would be about 8pm so we played some games to pass time(air hockey, pin ball, pool). We finally got on the track at 8:45 & to make matters worse, the A/C was not working in the building and there was no one manning the drink bar. Poorly managed business! read more

K1 really needs to offer online booking on a schedule. They're on a 60-120 minute wait around the clock with zero real entertainment outside of racing. You can't call ahead, book online, etc. You can book in-person and then head over to Top Golf or the Domain for some entertainment while you wait, but if they end up ahead of schedule and you miss your race you're out of luck. They could also do a better job ensuring that the karts are maintained. I had around 15% braking power at the start of my last race and within a few laps that had dwindled to maybe 5%. I'm a sizeable guy and putting 200+ lb of force on the brake pedal wasn't enough to slow the kart, so I had to use the rear tires (oversteer) to reduce speed into corners. Unfortunately that isn't a viable option when another kart crashes or stops hard in front of you, so I wound up having a couple small collisions. Post-race it took serious work (like literally refusing to let them put another patron in the kart) to get the "stewards" to sit down in the kart, push the brakes, and have another push it forward to realize it didn't work. I got a sheepish apology, but that type of behavior shouldn't be tolerated. Unfortunately, long waits and unsafe karts are only two issues that get in the way of a good time here: skill levels vary significantly, and races see frequent interruptions where karts will have safety limiting applied (reduces power to about 20%) until the hazard is removed. It's necessary, but when 4-6 of your 11-14 laps are under a virtual safety car it's a real bummer. read more

Unaccommodating staff. We were told to wait two hours and a half for our race. At our "race time" we were told to wait another hour and a half because our race was "moved". Extremely disappointing that we were not able to be accommodated after waiting for so long. No one offered any help, compensation, or solution to the managements obvious inability to manage the schedule efficiently and simply told us to wait more. We asked for refunds and one of the group members was unable to be given an immediate refund. Extreme waste of time due to bad management. Don't recommend. read more

Go-Karting is always a great time, so I was extra excited when my boyfriend brought me here as a birthday surprise today. Neither of us had been here before or been at a supervised company for go-karting, only free range, so it was a new experience for the both of us. The track was fun and the front desk, safety briefing guide and bar employees were very kind. The downfall was when one of us were on the track and our brakes didn't work, causing a spin out and collision with another customer in the first lap. Once the race started up again, it didn't take long before a piece fell off of the kart and the kart completely stopped, leaving the race paused for awhile and having to switch karts mid race. In the first collision, his shoulder swelled and bruised, so the bar employee gave him 2 ice packs. In our last race, he was bumped several times and flagged for "no bumping" that he didn't cause. And of course the bumping only made the shoulder worse. Between our 2nd and 3rd race, we watched others race. This is when I noticed an active kart's front left tire was unbalanced and shifted inward towards the kart. The racer of that kart wasn't able to make turns well, brake without shaking or accelerate much. We notified the employees, who let them finish the race with an unstable kart and then took it into the shop afterwards. All in all, we did have fun regardless. But the maintenance on the karts is questionable at best. Before leaving, we did ask for a copy of the waiver, which we were told could not be printed out. I'd like to have had a copy for "just in case" purposes. Not to drag the company, because we understand that accidents do happen. But when you're allowing faulty karts on the track, that is not the customers responsibility. read more

I'm no longer a fan of this particular K1 Speed location. Karts are not maintained at all: karts will jiggle continuously if going faster than walking speed; brakes are virtually nonexistent; some karts have horrible suspension (good luck turning!); karts have screwed up seat belts; etc. I was there with a group of friends June 23 in the evening and our two races were HORRIBLE for the aforementioned reasons. Whoever was on the night shift that day were rude and dismissive to my friend when he asked if our second race was going to happen--staff were purposefully ignoring us and gave us attitude when we pointed out we had another race. I have called K1 Speed a handful of times only to be transferred to a National Call Center. Left several messages each time. No one has gotten back to me about getting our two races back. What is wrong with this location? California K1 Speeds were never this poorly managed, staffed, and operated. Do I really have to travel to this location to get a Manager involved?? read more

Once you get in the track it's a lot of fun. I enjoyed the electric karts and track layout. I can see how wait times can get excessive though. We went right at the open and there was barely anyone there but it still took a while to get checked in and actually drive. I don't understand why they don't do reservations. They also had 1 kid out there for 12 laps by himself because they have junior karts ride separate. They need to have designated times for juniors because I'm sure this was not fun for the 10 adults waiting to race. Overall I will be going back, but I wouldn't ever go when it's busy. read more

We had a party of 8 (my older kids home on military leave and two juniors), paid a lot and waiting for 2 hours after being told nothing of any wait times, etc. Went to get an update and was told another hour after we watched multiple parties go before ours? I went to desk and waited, then asked how I could be helped? I requested a refund and was asked "why?". I told Jody because we had been waiting 2hours. He asked me "to go to the end of the line and after he helped the other customers, he would help me". I told him "No", I would not be going to the end of line, I was and/had been a paying customer and deserved the same respect as the next person in the line. He told me "stop being rude!". The customers asked me to cut in line and go before them (so kind). I was provided my refund and left. SHAME ON YOU K1 for treating customers as nothing more than a credit card and treating the very military people with such shame as you enjoy your freedom to run your mouth freely to any customer you feel like. Great service. I liked that they weren't taking no BS when it came to other risings bumping or not letting others pass. The karts were also pretty good tried two different ones and had no issues. They do slow you down in case there is an issue with an accident etc. I did not try the food or beer because let's face it most of the time at these places it isn't great so why bother. Went here (05/21/2022) for my daughter's birthday. We chose K1 Speed over COTA Karting because it was 93 degrees out today and K1 Speed is an indoor facility. The K1 Speed facility is nice, however, it is poorly air conditioned. The only part of their facility that is decently air conditioned is the bathrooms. Be ready to sweat if you're anywhere else inside. They failed to take advantage of the one clear advantage they have over COTA Karting. It didn't seem busy, as there weren't too many people there, so the two and a half hour wait to do any kart racing was befuddling. I'd hate to hear what the wait time is if they ever are busy. Overall, it just seemed to be inefficiently run, as most of our time there, several of the employees were often congregating with each other and "shooting the bull." Their concession stand was poorly run. They were out of most of the beer that they claimed to sell, the bottled water that they sold was not even cool ($2.75 a bottle), and they couldn't sell any of the hamburgers that were on their menu because they were out of buns (we found this out after they rang up the purchase, now we have to wait approximately 3 business days to receive our refund). The racing was pretty good, hence the two stars. They are proud of their products. Looking back, COTA Karting might have been a better choice. Just be aware and know before you go. read more

Been a once before with friends. It was ok but I wouldn't come back. Recently went on a work outing. Again not sure why anyone would have planned a work event here. $150 for the room. We passed and just ate in the lobby. $50 to do two races per person. One was a qualifying race and the second one was a true race. OK fun I guess but marshals didn't wave flags to get people out of the way that were being lapped. At the end we did the race podium thing. A tad cheesy but again ok fun, I guess. The food is TERRIBLE. We ordered some nachos, two pizzas, chicken tenders and chicken wings. Worst food. Cisco's best probably. Staff was nice. For the money the food is not worth it. We value our customers, yeah right......we arrived at 1:30 and paid out 160.00 to race for my daughters 21st birthday, once we'd paid we were told that our race may start at 4:35 or so, disappointed but undaunted, we returned at 4:00pm to be early for our races. We were then told it would be at least 2 more hours if juniors didn't delay it. Then it took a FULL 35 minutes to get a refund. Just terrible service. This place is so poorly run. We showed up since there are no reservations allowed and they said they were having a private event (no where on a website did it say that) so we had to come back at 4pm if we wanted to ride. So we left and then called to be sure we were able to ride if we came back. The woman on the phone didn't even know there was a private event going on and said we could come anytime (which we knew was wrong cuz we had already went and been turned away) but she said she got a hold of the location and the event was over. So we went BACK ($40 Ubers later) and got there at 4:10pm and the worker announced there would be no rides available until 8:30pm cuz of more private events/bookings....why would they tell us to come back at 4 if we weren't going to be able to ride? It's actually insane that this place functions this way. Don't go here unless ur part of one of the private events they seem to only prioritize. read more

My boyfriend and I have been looking for something to do in Austin that was fun and fast, and this looked like the perfect place. We went in and the first impression was okay. The prices were a little extreme with a helmet sock costing $9.50. We bought two races to start and see how we like it. The wait was 50 minutes which wasn't bad, we got some water and their nachos. The nachos were decent. The only good part we're the chips, the chicken was burnt and dry so I wouldn't recommend. We also waited for 15 minutes before an employee came from the back to assist us with the order and told us to take a seat. We took a seat with our number and we're waiting for 20 minutes for nachos. When I looked back at the counter I noticed they were just sitting at the counter as well. When we finally got to our races they added an employee and his two friends. One consisting of a small boy who was making jokes about throwing things at the racers. During the races the employee and his friends who joined the race and start in the back of the group my boyfriend and I were in the front and were never passed by the employee and his friends nor any other racers. But when the score came out we were in last place with the fastest laps on the screen so that did not make much sense. We went to retrieve our time sheets and approached the desk where an employee was standing on her phone. We stood there for a minute and she did not look up once. We decided to just leave when she didn't respond. Overall the employees favor their own in races. If you would like a fun experience with go carts just go to pinballz. read more

Now that it's been open a while and I've been a few times, here's my real review. Things aren't getting better, guys. I gave a pass initially because things looked promising and I know with any new business it takes a while to get things in sync. This was a four star review, and a few minor corrections would have made it five. Alas, everything that was bad before is still bad and things have gotten worse. Today I waited nearly three hours for a "hour and 45 minute" wait to get on track. I get it, it's busy, it's Saturday, and there are only so many people you can cycle at a time. Maybe it's time to get some kind of reservation system. Also, I've worked in a similar environment, it's not hard to give accurate estimates, and you should always overestimate so that people are happy they got in "early" rather than upset they're still waiting. That's also just in case something goes wrong and it takes longer than expected. Plus, there's basically nothing to do in your facility while you're waiting. One pool table, an air hockey table and a couple of arcade games are fine for a 20 minute wait. Not for a three hour wait. [edit] I bumped one star because they did finally fix the scoreboard. Multiple televisions inside show who's leading and what the standing was in the last race. I still think the projector they're using in the main room isn't adequate -- the picture is very washed out and is extremely difficult to see during a race, but having the results on the interior televisions solves 90% of my complaint. [/edit] The karts are very inconsistent. Not too bad if you're just going to have fun, but the whole experience encourages competition. I've been in bumpy karts, seen a kart go around with underinflated tires, and watched the cars and the track speeds fluctuate throughout the day. Hint: go later in the evening, the track gets grippier and the cars generally perform better. I can say when the racing is good, it's really good. The karts can be fast and the track layout is very good. I've gone with a large group of people who were all very experienced racers and we've had a great time. Unfortunately, you're usually mixed into a group with people of all skill levels. That means that if you're slow, you're going to get hit. If you're fast, you're continually running up on much slower traffic that has ZERO awareness of what's going on behind them and you will accidentally hit them when they suddenly cut in front of you because they don't know where they should be on track and don't realize someone is passing. Pass flags come out rarely if ever. To top it all off, there's tons of construction debris in the parking lot and I picked up nails in my tires today, ruining one of them. Considering the clientele K1 is trying to attract, they need to be more proactive in cleaning the parking lot. I see lots of high end sports cars in the lot every time I'm there, but they won't be there long if they keep ruining $500 tires every time they come race. read more

We reserved the entire track for my friends birthday. We paid $90 for four races each. Sean was the person running the track. On the 4th and final race the birthday boy had a defective car that started going about a 2/3rd of the speed by the 4th to the last lap, he was winning and then we started passing him. I spoke with Sean in private and asked if he noticed, he said he did. I asked him if he could ensure that he gets credited. He flat out refused to do so saying that he still won the tournament and that it didn't effect the final score. 1. Racing is about the exhilaration, he was given a defective car on an event that was for his birthday. This event brought K1 10 people worth of business and Sean didn't care. 2. In any business, you give your customers what they pay for. If there is something wrong with the product, you take care of it. But no, not Sean. Luckily one of the other staff actually knew customer service, fairness and didn't want to rip off the birthday boy, so credited him. Please fire Sean, I'm a business owner, he's unfriendly, unhelpful and losing you business. read more

One race is not enough! Exciting, fun and safe. I started kart racing at K1 back in June 2016 to try a new racing style and just to have fun. Since then, I've put over 900 races under my belt collectively at various K1 Speed locations across the nation. However, Austin is my favorite track. This and other K1s are a hidden gem for racing and family/corporate fun. It's unique - indoor, air conditioned and the electric karts are fast. Take a race or two to learn the track, talk with some of the professionals on the K1 team, and then bring out your co-workers and friends for some racing fun. Many of the karts at Austin are very well maintained with a lot of that attributed to Reno. You can tell he is passionate about what he does and his workmanship is noticeable in the handling and precision of many of the Austin K1 karts. Overall, the K1 team is friendly and will get you set up for a safe and fun experience. If you're just starting out and have a fairly large group, it's recommended to go during the weekdays.
