It is located in historic SW Germany. While the base offers lovely suites, generous amounts of American fast food and a mall with standard base stores, it is close to wonderful, historic towns that offer fabulous German food and places of interest. Large forests with hiking trails, many castles to explore, good shopping in walking districts and so much history, too much for a 3 week trip! With GPS in our rental car, it was very easy to find the local communities. The base also has the USO and a travel agency available with day trips to Belgium, France, Amsterdam, the Swiss border, Rhine and Mosel River cruises, and tours of major German cities. The USO offers orientation on riding the German Trains. I am hoping there is still room in their German cooking class! Everyone at the base has been incredibly helpful and pleasant. We are finishing up our first day toasting with a local riesling wine, sitting in comfortable easy chairs at the window overlooking the airfield below. What a lovely place.

AMCR however gave us a ride in an employees car the 5 minutes to their location in town. We ended up having to pay VAT tax on the car which is automatically taken out at the KMCC location. The staff was friendly with workable English. We rented a Citroen C-1 at about $50 USD/day which was fine for 2 people and luggage. It struggled keeping up on the autobahn. We returned the car on the Ramstein Air Force Base. They have a rental car drop off lot right near the pax terminal and a key drop in side the pax terminal. Very useful.

We honestly expected a typical 'used car' experience with a salesman saying anything to get us to buy...you will NOT find that attitude here. Rob was professional, in a friendly and easy to talk to manner, and their intern, Ben, was just as nice outgoing as well. Rob and Ben were able to put us in a car I never imagined I'd be driving...so they really helped make a longtime dream of mine come true. It was convenient too that they had a gas station literally next door so you could top up before returning. Then I reserved a car with SIXT, only to find out they didn't have any in stock that I could use. With less than an hour to get to Frankfurt to pick up my family on their flight, I was starting to panic. That's when I called Michelle at Hertz Ramstein. From the moment I explained my situation, she went above and beyond to help. She searched for anything I could use, found an available vehicle that fit my needs, and had it ready for me before I got there. Michelle didn't just "get me a car"--she genuinely cared about making sure I got that days situation under control. Because of Michelle, I was able to pick my family up on time. Do not use this hertz! I submitted a reservation on line for a mid size vehicle. Instead of canceling my reservation they charged my card the rental amount anyway. When i called to request a refund they first couldn't find a reservation under my name even though i provided my information. Then they hung up on me...i called back and was told i needed to come in the office because they didnt show where my card was ever charged. The manager is clueless and always calls on her subordinates for help....if i could give this place 0 stars i most definitely would. Worst customer service ever!!! Never again! Go to sixt on base!!!

I had a reservation booked for this location. Due to numerous delays caused by the train (bahn) I…read morearrived late about 3 hours which already isn't pleasant and having carried my bags with me. I arrived at the counter and the customer agent rudely said that I should have called. I explained that my American phone isn't able to call out without wifi and not to the Priceline number I had which was a 1-800 number for any modification. He then rudely said well the policy is to hold the car for an hour. I understand that but I also pay by the day and had a reservation and card on file. This location doesn't have an elevator so I dragged my two suitcases three flights of stairs down to the garage to the car. The car already had a warning sign for oil change due but since I was exhausted and just wanted to get to my destination I took the car as is. During my time the tire sign came on as well which is fine given I went to fill up more air Overall not a great experience with the agent who could probably use some customer service training but returning the car in Frankfurt was no problem at all.
