Ethics and morals appear to be two qualities missing from the training manual at the Hertz office…read morein Stuttgart Airport, Germany--replaced instead by deceit and dishonesty. I usually don't write reviews unless they are positive, but this time I have never felt so betrayed and misled as I did when dealing with the Hertz rental team at Stuttgart Airport. My story goes like this: My original reservation was for an economy vehicle at the confirmed rate of USD 156 for the entire rental period. Upon arrival--after a nine-hour transatlantic flight and severely jet-lagged--the clerk informed me that the reserved vehicle was "not available." He then stated that the only option was a larger vehicle for an additional €60. Given my physical condition and the absence of alternatives, I felt pressured into accepting the upcharge. This conduct constitutes bait-and-switch tactics, which are prohibited under EU consumer protection laws and German competition regulations. At the car rental return, I was suddenly presented with alleged "scratches" on the car. These marks were not visible to the naked eye, and I strongly dispute causing any such damage. More importantly: My contract clearly shows that I purchased insurance for damage and loss, yet the staff treated me as if I had no coverage at all. This is a clear violation of the rental agreement and may indicate an intentional disregard for customers' purchased protections. Moreover, after reviewing public reviews of this location, I found numerous complaints describing nearly identical damage-claim practices, suggesting a pattern of questionable or intentional overcharging. During the rental, the vehicle experienced an electrical malfunction and would not start. The car's lighting system is designed to switch off automatically, and I am certain the lights were off when I exited. A technician jump-started the car in less than two minutes, yet I was charged for this service despite the issue being clearly mechanical and unrelated to my conduct. This charge is unjustified--particularly in light of the insurance coverage I had already paid for. When I attempted to discuss these matters upon return, the counter employee was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. He refused to provide his name, which is unacceptable for a customer-facing representative and obstructs proper complaint documentation. I was left with no choice but to take his photo simply to identify the employee involved. A female supervisor then told me that the rental was under a corporate account and that "my company would take care of the charges." I immediately clarified that I am personally responsible for all rental charges, not my employer. Despite this clarification, she refused to address my concerns and continued to deflect responsibility. This behavior is negligent, misleading, and contrary to professional and contractual standards. In a nutshell--and with absolute certainty--I will never rent from Hertz again, anywhere in the world. I've already notified my coworkers and management and urged them to steer clear of the ongoing nightmare that Hertz presents. Note: I attached the picture of the employee who refused to give me his name. They have no name tag display or badges. He was so rude.

I picked up a car upon arrival from the US and was told there was only one left and I should take it or leave it. After 18 hours of travel I was in no mood to argue, so I accepted a very dirty (inside and out) Polestar with 31K kms on it and an overdue service warning that constantly came up. The car also had multiple dings and scratches, including on three of the four aluminum rims. Upon return, the inspector IMMEDIATELY went over to the one rim that was not marked as damaged, pointed to a tiny scratch and said I would be charged for this. He did this within 30 seconds, knowing EXACTLY where to go. Late for a flight I noted that I did NOT agree with this on the inspection report and gor on my plane. Sure enough, My bill included EUR 210 for "damage" plus a EUR 68 "damage processing fee. So, they scam you and then charge you a fee for the privilege. Great stuff. I'm dealing with Hertz (will likely drop my President's Club membership now) and my credit card company now to get the charge reversed. Do yourself a favor and rent somewhere else. These guys are crooks, plain and simple. Avoid!

The 3 stars is mainly for how confusing it is to drop off a car or pick up a car…read more RENTAL OFFICE: The rental offices are close to the main entrance of the train station, i.e. humans are here. RENTAL CAR GARAGE: The parking garage is way past the train station at the other end of the big block in the parking garage of the LBBW building, i.e. no humans here. When you enter the parking garage, just look for the rental car signs 2 levels below ground. After parking, I had to return the keys to the rental office - I put the parking garage ticket with the keys when I returned it. To walk from the garage to the rental office you have to walk by some tracks (I forget which one), but it wasn't the shortest walk. - The rental car spots are mixed with the other agencies and super tight. They tell you to park it in any empty spot in that area. DROP-OFF: The first time we came here was to drop off a car we picked up at another location. Where do you park the car? We were expecting an airport-like drop off area. You have to turn at the light to the parking garage at the far end of the tracks. Don't turn into the mini parking lot right next to the train station entrance - you will get stuck in traffic. I called and am glad we could drop off afterhours because we needed an extra 20 minutes to loop around and figure out where to park it, and then locate the rental office drop off box near the front of the train station. (I've attached a map of where the parking garage entrance is.) The return was processed the next day, I had booked it online and there were no surprise charges. PICK-UP: The second time we came to pick up a car - no surprise that we got the same Ford Jura SUV that we dropped off 2 days ago. Now that we knew where the parking garage was, it was much easier to find it. Note, we only saw stairs to get to/from the parking garage. If you have a lot of luggage, and you're traveling with someone else, you may want to arrange for 1 person to get the car and the other to stay with the luggage. I was late to pick up and they didn't seem to mind. The phone number to call did not work or they just didn't turn it on.

Don't try calling on weekend mornings because they can get extremely busy. If you emphatically need a weekend vehicle, call dung the week to reserve it. Otherwise, you risk not getting exactly what you want or anything at all if you're late. This business accepts credit cards and VAT forms. Additionally, when you pick up the rental, you fill out the form and they turn it in for you so that you can simply drop off the vehicle key in the key box when you return the vehicle after hours. NOTE: If you require an automatic transmission, you definitely need to make advanced reservations since European rental businesses primarily stock manual transmission vehicles. ***Do not show up impromptu expecting to find automatics.*** "Andrea" is a very friendly and helpful character. She definitely exemplifies professionalism and takes her position seriously. (She speaks fluent English as well.) Many times, a known regular customer may get a free upgrade based on availability. My coworkers and I have been upgraded several times here. (The business itself is a 4-star, but Andrea is an international 5-Star professional)
