Heartbroken by the Lack of Compassion After Years of Loyalty I was a loyal customer for sometime even back when the salon had the old yellow paint and worn décor. I'd drive over an hour and a half each way just to support their business. Sometimes I brought my 93-year-old grandmother, who is blind, along with her sitter. She would quietly rest while I got my hair done, and I often paid extra to have her hair washed and styled too, just to keep her comfortable. One visit, right after the remodel, I brought my grandmother and her sitter (who also got serviced) because I had a funeral to attend the next day. My grandmother, tired from the long drive, dozed off in the waiting area. The owner and other staff called my stylist out several times, saying it "wasn't a good look" to have her sleeping there and that they "didn't want her dropping any slob out of her mouth onto their new pillows." That was humiliating and deeply disappointing. I had always paid well, tipped generously, and brought them new clients. What hurt most is that the owner, a breast cancer survivor, of all people, should understand compassion and dignity, especially toward the elderly. After my daughters posted honest reviews, my stylist, clearly upset "accidentally" burned my ear with a curling iron. That was the last time I went back. I supported this salon, but the humility that once made it special vanished with the renovation. I'll never forget how they treated a 93-year-old woman who simply needed a moment to rest. read more

What a nice surprise! I came to K One Salon at the recommendation of my nephew. I was so surprised by the atmosphere. Beautifully decorated with multiple spaces for individual stylist. There's a common area to sit and have your hair dried. But make no mistake, not regular hair dryers. Additionally, there's a kitchen/ eating area with a vending machine. Whatever your hair care needs are, I.e: braids, perms, wax, eyebrows, wig install, wigs made, color and more, you're surely able to find a stylist who can assist you. Also surprising was the teamwork among the stylist. Although all are individual businesses, they all help each other out. This is so refreshing! Lastly, the business is a supporter of breast cancer awareness and research. Oh! And my service didn't take all day either! I'm very happy I found them. Out of all the hair salons I have been to, this one has to be one of my favorites. Denae was my stylist, (she is totally the sweetest!) and she knew exactly what she was doing (especially with natural hair), with the products she had available. Typically, since my hair is curly and dry, after shampooing, my hair would be as dry as brittle. With the products Denae used, my hair came out as soft as a babies booty. Literally. I never once thought that "its a 10" would work so well with really curly hair, BUT it did.. She blew dry my hair out and at that point, it was already good enough for me. When she straightened it, it was so silky and still smelled GREAT, not like processed hair. Overall, the salon has gorgeous decor, very modern and chic. The hair products they use are not cheap, they're quality products guys! So, if you have natural kinky curly, mixed, even loose curly hair... Denae is your gal! She knows exactly what she is doing. It was a gift, so I didn't actually pay for my hair. But the total came out to be about $65 bucks. I write this review with serious regret because the same salon that took part in the most amazing day of my life is also the one that brought me to tears a month a a few days after. I went to K one to get the sew in that I had for a month and a half washed. Paid $185 for the sew in and $159 a bag for virgin Brazilian hair that I mixed with my husband to be' s hair. He grew it out for four years and I had it wefted for my special day. The sew in was beautiful. My hair looked great. It's hard where I live to maintain a sew in especially because I am a trainer and sweat a lot. I flew from hawaii back to Houston to have my scalp cleaned and washed. I had washed it once before and I had no problems. I was hoping the professional hair stylist could do a better job. I was Wrong.! She washed that very dear hair like it came from on a horse.! And ended up with a matted mess! To make matters worse while She was trying to detangle it, I had a brush helping her. I asked if there was anything she could put on it to help, she was lost. No suggestions or solutions. Nor a sincere apology and she had to cut it out. To add insult to injury the manager came over and told me that they would not take responsibility for a bad batch of hair! I couldn't even speak because I walked in with a perfect head of hair and walked out with a wet head and no resolution other than, well I can do you a favor and take it out for free, as if I was being done a favor. It's sad. I try to support black businesses but I could've got a better job done a fantastic SAMs for a wash and style. It's ok not to know everything when it comes to weave and extensions. I even told her I used Wen to wash my hair she was surprised, but continued to wash it with $9 shampoo. I just figured she knew what she was doing but Wrong. It's been two days. No one has contacted me to make it better or to check on me after how devastated I was. Which lets me know then really don't give a shit and $ is all they care about. It's sad. I will never go back there and my friends and family that asked me about the amazing job will hear this story. I'm a fair person. But, this cultured, quaint salon in the Kirkwood Market Center has a lot to offer. The ladies in this shop are friendly, professional and service oriented not only to clients but toward one another. Worst salon ever. Ghetto. Untalented. Slow hair stylists that doesn't know what they're doing. They'll unnecessarily leave you under the dryer forever, leave the shop without telling you, and come back to do a shoddy job. They'll take new clients while you're in their chair and blame you for them double booking clients. They can't talk and do hair at the same time. They prefer the former though. They take over three hours and counting to do your hair, but it will still be incomplete. Stay away from adriana or whatever her name is. She tried to charge me full price for an unfinished style. Thankfully the cashier corrected her several times. She's very dishonest. Avoid this salon!!! read more

Got my natural hair cut here by Kena. I loved the results! You could definitely tell she knew what she was doing and has been doing hair for a long time! She was speedy Gonzalez with the scissors and the style was exactly what I wanted! The salon has a receptionist to keep things moving smooth throughout the day. As a customer I can appreciate the fact my stylist doesn't have to stop when she is doing my hair. Tia started doing my hair back in 2014. Before Tia I had 3 different stylist to do what Tia does for me today. I'm natural and wear my real hair curly 80% of the time. I love my weaves and color. Tia has colored my natural hair and done some amazing protective styles.(Sew in , quick weaves, stitch braids) . She also makes Wigs!! People confuse my wigs for a sew in all the time. She doesnt charge a arm & a leg for a WIG. Tia is always on time and if late the receptionist will contact me in advance. I'm never sitting in the shop for hours . Let me start off by saying instantly when I walked in to the salon it was very organized and welcoming. I went in for a wash, blow out, and trim. I got there on time for my appointment and was assisted right away. My stylist was Denae was amazing. You can tell that this just isn't a job for her it's her passion. K1 since day one has been a wonderful establishment built on quality customer service and I couldn't see myself going anywhere else. All of the stylist are very pleasant to be around and skilled in their craft from weaves/protective styles to natural hair, and color etc. They are dedicated to making sure your hair is not only gorgeous/laid but also healthy and luxurious. After having my daughter my edges as many women experience began to fall out the staff at K One was great providing wonderful advice and encouraging words as I was freaking out, but with consistent visits to Tia and allowing her to care for and treat my hair it has grown back and is now healthier than ever. I Came in after they were listed to be closed. Took A Chance and walked in, was immediately greeted. As a walk in, denied by several other salons as a walk in considering what I wanted done, they sat me within 5 minutes and got started. I have long bi-racial hair and was interested in a unique cut, which I had NEVER tried before and was very nervous about. Not only did Tia Marie make me feel confident but she guided me in the right direction if they were unable to meet my needs. As she clipped and treated my ends she also went above and beyond with offering future needs as well as guidance to who could do it if she couldn't with this particular cut. Shakena "Kena" Duren who was on her way out the door came over to take a look and immediately wanted to finish the fade I may have needed to got to a barber for. Not only did they save me time and more trips, but they perfected the style I was initially after. They both took it upon themselves, and I could feel there genuine interest and passion in my new look and leaving me fulfilled and satisfied. I felt completely confident in their ability as well as the decision i was making for the style I was after. I'm truely grateful they were both working late and that they accepted me as a walk in though they were working after listed hours as it is. I now have a salon home! Kena serviced my client and her bridal party on March 12, 2016. She was great and everyone, including the Bride, was pleased.
