We've been a few times throughout our years of living here. We always have a good experience. The people working are always friendly. I assumed that the young man helping us today was newer because he was slower then the other kids, but it wasn't a huge deal. I'm really appreciative of the dairy free options plus having a gluten-free cone! It really opens up ice cream options for our family since I can eat too. We came because I saw they had strawberry dole whip and chocolate fudge sorbet back. It was delicious and tastes just like a chocolate covered strawberry. It's a cute little walk up stand that matches the neighborhood feel. read more

Stopped by here for the first time on a warm afternoon to get a banana split. Waited in line (in the hot sun) for about 20 minutes. The banana split was big & enough for 2 people. I enjoyed it & would return here for ice cream in the future. read more

It was super busy tonight but the service was fast and efficient. Food is good: they have great soft serve in many flavors. Their taco in a bag is yummy. They have expanded their menu with more options of icecream I believe. It's all outside though and I don't think they have bathrooms. There are community ones just a short walk away though. read more

Food is normally good and the ice cream is always good. They stopped using the indoor seating a while back. The place has ZERO public restrooms. They expect you to use a tiny outdoor portapotty a block away that the neighboring bar uses for outdoor parties. Why not convert the abandoned dining space into a large wheelchair friendly restroom? It only needs one toilet and a sink. Then you might just get a few more customers Could even have two restrooms if the doors opened directly outside. read more

K & W is a Springboro institution. It probably is the busiest place downtown in the summer. There isn't much else going on around there. It has some seating indoors. They also have the classic walk up window. It specializes in soft serve ice cream. It has the popular blueberry flavor called Boro Blue. They also have Dole Whip. It's about $3 for a cup. The flavors rotate and include raspberry. It has a few tables inside, so that's nice if it's raining. They also have hot food like burgers and hot dogs if you really are hungry enough to eat that. It doesn't have a drive thru like some ice cream places. The window is the most popular spot. It has a small parking lot. It's tough to get in and out. The good thing is there's lots of street parking available so you can park there. read more

Pretty poor quality ice cream. I literally threw out my strawberry arctic freeze because it was so terrible. Went up and tried to buy something different and they wouldn't let me use my credit card because it was below $5. This week I had the lemon Dole Whip for the first time. I have always missed it in the past. Now I am a total lemon head, I love sour anything! And I don't want to be dramatic but I swear it was life changing! This made my whole day! Not being able to have dairy is hard enough and Dole Whip makes my life better, but now that I have Lemon Dole Whip in my life I'm going to be a much happier person! I got a cone and a pint to go, but I will definitely come in again this week before that flavor goes out of rotation again. Went for haunted hot dog Halloween for the community of Springboro. For $6 you got a hot dog with choice of ketchup or mustard order of fries and a small ice cream cone. It was a great little snack to follow up with children after trick or treating the main drag of Main Street for the businesses. It was very tasteful and the service was grand. Dozens of flavors of soft serve, smiley and fast service, great value, and so much small town charm at the K! It's hard to resist getting ice cream when strolling through sweet little downtown Springboro. I love how they decorate the outside sitting area during the fall. I've not eaten the food but so enjoy taking my nephews for ice cream and watching all the other happy folks and families enjoy the sweet treats and surroundings. This is a local place that is small and simple in the best way. Reasonable prices and a non-commercial atmosphere make it an easy pick for a quick, cold treat. The ice cream is on par with Dairy Queen, but there are a whole lot more flavors--caramel, berry, pistachio, cheesecake, and more. The flavors are all very one-dimensional and get boring quickly, so a sundae you can add nuts and/or toppings to is a good idea. It's always pleasant to sit outside on a nice day, enjoy some ice cream, and watch the cars go through town. Kids love all the flavor choices, and the K's prices make it easy to indulge in a little treat. read more

Many people in Springboro rave about the place, but I don't see what's so special about it. The ice cream is extra ordinary soft serve poured into a machine from a carton. This past weekend Kim Sizemore and I tried the footlong hotdogs. The hotdog was almost cooked enough to be lukewarm and put on a smashed bun with some generic cheese and cold chili. The prices are low, just like the quality. There are usually five thousand kids waiting outside on any given day, they must really be lacking for options. On a side note, the chili upset my stomach and made my house smell like farts. read more

This place is popular in town. The workers here are friendly. Sometimes the line is long. And it does tend to be a teen hang out so sometimes it can get crowded and the kids will just leave there trash everywhere which is un called for. A good spot to get a quick bite while trying to avoid a fast food chain. Indoor & outdoor seating makes it good for all seasons. My mom noticed the creamy whip on our way into Springboro and swore that we had to stop there before we left the area. So, a few hours after we had eaten lunch, we found ourselves in line at the busy establishment (the only buy establishment in the area that day). The menu was pretty much reminiscent of any other creamy whip I've ever been to. We decided to share a large cup of vanilla soft-serve with Reese's peanut butter cups on top. It was good (what ice-cream isn't) but I'd still take The Cone over K & W any day. read more

My favorite soft serve spot! I write today because I was actually pleasantly surprised by the food there too. I always get ice cream of course (favorite twist vanilla and chocolate with chocolate sprinkles)...last night I actually got food. I bought hot dogs for the kids, knowing they wouldn't eat two...I tried some and was amazed at how good just a plain hot dog with a bun was. So being that the kids are most of it I got a cheeseburger for myself...and it was equally delicious! I look forward to visiting the K whenever I'm in Springboro. The ice cream is delicious, perfectly creamy soft serve. The menu is extensive and the atmosphere is fun. History

Established in 1963.

The K&W Drive-In, otherwise known as The K, in Springboro has been a gathering place for families since 1963. Prior to becoming a destination for burgers and soft serve ice cream, it was home to a gas station and before then was the site of the Bateman Tannery, a station on the Underground Railroad that offered assistance to runaway slaves. Brother-in-laws Roger Kersey and Paul Weber originally opened The K and sold it to John and Darlene Balyo in the late 1970s. Current owners Brandi Blanton and her husband, Bryan, bought the ice cream shop in 2021 from Gale Graham who had owned it for 22 years. For years, students attending school at the site of Springboro Intermediate would rush to The K on Fridays and wait in a long line. This tradition continues decades later. It is often described as a “right of passage” when you go to the 6th grade and can walk to The K by yourself.

I started working at The K&W Drive at the end of 2014. I fell in love with not only the business but the history and connection of the Springboro community. It is a pleasure to serve families and support our local children thru our donations to the Springboro Schools and local libraries. We are after all.. “The place to be since ‘63!”

Not an employee in sight. The food and bar always seem to be closed. Can't even find where to purchase their famous doughnuts. They built the huge play area for children which is great! But please don't advertise all your food and drink options if it's never going to be open or an employee around to check you out. Nothing like your toddler melting down because they want a juice and you can't find a way to pay for it. I love the baby animals and all the kids activities but until they figure out how to properly run this place I probably won't come back.

The best part about this place was the interior, it looked quiet and cozy, with a fireplace and seating hiding in the back. So, if you are looking for matcha, look elsewhere!

That said, during nearly every visit, I've encountered staff who come across as rude, argumentative, or dismissive without any apparent reason. Even when I've been the only vehicle in the drive-thru, wait times have often been 15-20 minutes. When orders are brought out, the interactions consistently feel unenthusiastic and, at times, abrasive. Unfortunately, this hasn't been an isolated experience--it's been a pattern over multiple visits. I understand that customer service skills take time to develop, but consistent courtesy and professionalism are still important. Because of the repeated experiences I've had, I've decided I can no longer support this business.

It might have just been a stressful night. We did pop in the next day and I asked about their coffee selection. The response we got was a bit dismissive and they told us "we have black coffee, we don't do any of that fancy stuff. Go down the street to Taylor's." I was going to order the regular coffee but it was off-putting so we did as they recommended and left. I know I don't *look* like a local- for obvious reasons. I don't want to believe this is why we received weird service compared to other patrons. Regardless, we have enjoyed the actual food and ice cream here. Our family likes it and visits weekly- I will just trust them that they get good consistent service every time.
