This was the very best car buying experience we have had. We worked with Steven. He was so laid…read moreback and patient. And, he even talked us through the details of previous ownership which helped us decide against a more-expensive vehicle. The dealership process is awesome. They let you wander the lot alone, sit in cars, look at the amenities and prices. You have so much more privacy and time than at a traditional dealership. Then you get to take your top picks for a test drive... Alone! You have all of the drive time to chat candidly about the car. To top it off, they will work with the DMV to get your plates... No waiting in line. I don't know if we will ever buy a car that's not from CarMax. This was our 3rd purchase over the years. The cars have all been reliable and the prices have been fair, especially given the fact that there is so little hassle and pushiness.

TLDR: Misleading photos of car, negative initial experience after ordering a car to be shipped,…read moreattempted to reduce initial bid for my trade by $2000, misinformation on transferring personalized plates. GREAT sales associate - awesome guy. Follow-up call the next day fixing the plate issue. I would shop around, don't make Carmax your first choice. Hi! Thanks for sticking around to read the whole story. This is going to be my experience with Carmax as a company, the finalizing of the sale at the Independence location, and my overall impression. I started this journey over 2 months ago as gas prices started to hit $4 a gallon. I had a paid off 2019 4x4 truck, very nice, MSRP when new was $48,600 before covid. I've always kept it washed, waxed, and well maintained. It had 89,200 mostly highway miles on it, and needed nothing. No rust on any body panels, nothing underneath as far as the body, well cared for, and very minimal parking lot dings, extremely minimal. I answered all of the Carmax questions, twice, about 2 months apart, very honestly. I reported my 2 fender benders, one of which was a tree falling in my driveway. I found out later that it didn't even count per Carmax's standards. Good to know. Both were repaired at a very great body shop, parts replaced and painted to match perfectly. The original quote of $18,400 was about $2000 more than Carmax's largest competitor. When I got to Carmax however they tried to reduce the bid by $2000 for 'undercarriage rust'. In Missouri? After 7 Missouri winters? You don't say! Apparently, Carmax's competitor had already accounted for that. Thankfully our awesome sales associate had our back, and helped us get our original bid back. Now to the car we ordered. I found a very nice Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD in Tennessee. It was a 2025, one owner, 22,000 miles. In the original photos they displayed 2 blemishes, a small rock chip that had been fixed with touch-up paint on the hood and some discoloration over the driver's door from going through a carwash. BTW, if you're reading this and drive a Tesla don't go through automatic car washes. Please, just don't. However, after getting the car we found some fairly substantial blemishes that were not photographed. There is a very large scratch in one of the doors, some scratches on the interior seat, the driver's headrest is delaminating and will need replaced, and thanks to the Carmax logo I now have permanent Carmax ghosting on my paint. Why do companies insist on placing dealer logos on paint? I bought a Tesla, not a Carmax. I removed the logo and used some adhesive remover from 3M that is safe for paint, purchased from Auto Body Color. (Nasty stuff, btw, so if you get some BE SURE you follow the label. You MUST wear a respirator to use. It's highly toxic.). I will say the car is comfortable, drives nice, has a great battery, and was only $40,998. I originally went with Carmax because they appeared to have nicer cars. Their competitors cars had more blemishes, but now it seems that their competitor may just be more honest. Also, Carmax is going to do what every dealer does and try to push you into one of their extended maintenance plans. If you are worried about future repairs you can pay a lot for peace of mind. I chose not to, as I bought a 2025 Tesla with 22,000 miles. I commute nearly 120 miles a day round-trip, and so when my warranty is up I'll be getting the maintenance plan directly from Tesla. As far as I'm concerned my relationship with Carmax ended when I drove off their lot. I will repeat, our sales guy was awesome. I'm withholding his name because I am only giving 3 stars. If this review was for him alone it would definitely be a 5 star review. I'm sure by now you want to know about the personalized license plate issue. Last year I got personalized plates for my truck. In Missouri personalized plates belong to the driver and are assigned to the vehicle. They can be transferred to any vehicle you own, car, truck, or suv. When I got to the person that handles the plates, sales tax, and signing all those forms I was rudely told that I could not transfer my plates from my truck to my Model Y because it had to be licensed as a car. He would not listen to me, cut me off while I was talking, talked down to me, and treated me terribly. I could feel the hatred from him, as he talked to this stupid, pathetic old man with the gray beard. It's a good thing someone as pathetic and stupid as myself had his superior intellect to show me how utterly stupid I was because I would have been lost without him. After signing all the papers they had my car all decorated with a giant bow. I didn't care. All I wanted was to get out of there. The next day a very nice lady called, had fixed the issue, and I'm getting to keep my plates. I'm out of room - that's my story, good luck! Thanks for reading.

I discovered HAWK Auto as I was looking for a used hybrid sedan online and found a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid in excellent condition. I called the number listed in the ad and Sean (co-owner) responded to my voicemail within the day. I must admit, at first I was hesitant about this dealership which was simply warranted by appearances of the facility, which are rugged and more shop-oriented. However, the associates and owners at HAWK have a high level of integrity which is shown through their excellent customer service, the quality of vehicles they choose to carry, the extremely high level of product knowledge, and their desire to build relationships with each of their customers. Sean & Mario both were willing to spend the required time with my wife & I to ensure our questions were fully satisfied and that we were comfortable with the transaction. At no time did we feel pressured to make a purchase, nor were we made to feel like we were a burden when our due diligence took longer than might be typical. My experience listed here is most definitely worthy of a high review, but the extra-ordinary aspect of my experience with HAWK comes in to play several months following the purchase of the vehicle. The title of the purchased vehicle was delivered via certified mail the very week I was moving houses and tragically became misplaced. After months of looking through papers & boxes, we deemed the title lost. Unfortunately, the vehicle had not been registered and now we had to get a replacement title. After contacting the DOT, the insurance company and the lien holder, all counsel suggested the dealer would have to request a replacement title. What made this extremely difficult was HAWK purchased the vehicle through an auction house in GA, who purchased the vehicle from a leasing agent in FL. Each transfer in ownership was hand-written on the title, so the last recorded registration was still in FL. In order to get the replacement title, Sean was required to spend a tremendous amount of time researching, tracking down involved parties, and initiating on my behalf the request for replacement title. This process spanned many months, involving multiple hours of work on HAWK's part in order to remedy the issue, and Sean was always quick to respond and very professional with each correspondence. At no time was I ever made to feel like I was a nuisance or inconvenience, which I know this issue must have been a large source of frustration for Sean. I do not know of many used dealers that would have put in the time and effort for a single customer who had already made a purchase. This, to me, goes way above and beyond the typical expectations of a used dealer and Sean has demonstrated his dedication to me as a customer. For that I cannot give him a high enough rating and I will always go to HAWK Auto for all of my used vehicle needs in the future.

When it didn't I took it back and true to their word, they didn't charge me to fix what they thought they had the first time around. In the past, when I've had my cars worked on at other shops, something kept happening with my car, or they would keep charging me for what they were supposed to the first time around. Maybe I was young and naive and didn't know better. Yes, I hear some of the people who have harped on me to learn how to maintain my own own vehicle, (which I didn't have until I was older) so, when I can't do it myself, they have earned my trust that they will do right by me. Therefore I always leave this place feeling better and a satisfied customer.

SUMMARY: If you are looking to buy a new KIA because of their affordability and their 100k mile…read moredrivetrain warranty DON'T. KIA allows for up to 1qt of oil loss per 1000 miles and will waste your time with oil consumption tests until you are out of warranty. I purchased my 2022 Kia Soul new here several years back. I have gotten my vehicle serviced here exclusively and have had the following issues: -Backup camera went out causing an electrical short making my gauges and lights go haywire - fixed under warranty (happened under 60k miles) -Camshaft was replaced due to vehicle running out of oil and throwing up a check engine light - fixed under warranty (happened around 55k miles) My main issue has been OIL CONSUMPTION. Since my camshaft issue around 55k miles, my engine has completely ran out of oil between each oil change that I get every 5k miles. I have been informed that it is within KIA spec to lose up to 1 qt of oil per 1000 miles. My engine is 4.5qt which means it is within spec to lose all of the oil in my engine within 5000 miles. I have had 3 sets of oil consumption tests, 2 rounds each, from 55k miles to 89k miles. The first round of each set, my engine has been found to burn more than 1 qt of oil. After the first test, they keep the vehicle overnight and perform a fuel system clean and have me come back the next day to pick it up just to have to come back in another 1k miles for a second test. When I come back for the second test my vehicle is conveniently found to be burning less than a quart of oil. The issue is my vehicle continues to run out of oil between each oil change so either this fuel system clean is a band-aid to pass the test, or the results of the second test are being forged. After doing some googling, I found that this is a common business practice by KIA in general, not just this dealership. As I am nearing the end of my warranty it seems like I am going to have to continue to top off the engine between oil changes or get them every 3k miles instead. That being said, the ladies that ring you up and set up the rentals are both very nice and do a great job.
