I feed my dog an all raw diet and have for a few years now so I don't go to pet stores any longer. When I did, I actually had a family owned store tell me that this place sells dog food to the public for a cheaper price than that store even bought it from the distributor for ( Canadae and taste of the Wild). Hands down the best prices for dog food. That is if they have what you want actually in stock. If you have a larger breed dog or buy your everyday ordinary Pedigree food they will have it. On the other hand if you have a smaller breed and/or prefer to buy holistic/organic food such as Blue Buffalo, good luck getting it there. From my experience they only carry like three bags of each and they sell fast. The staff seem very knowledgeable so if you have questions don't be afraid to ask. Also as many others have said they rarely answer their phone. I've witnessed it first hand when calling and watching it ring and ring with not a single person acknowledging it while there. If you can figure out their ordering schedule and be there the day a new shipment gets in then this place is for you. I really like K9!! I get a lot of products from them for my groom dogs, along with my own personal dogs. Their food and litter is relatively inexpensive compared to other pet stores. Their dog treats, the same. What does bother me about this place is that their grooming shampoos and conditioners aren't stocked on a regular basis. So I drive all the way there for only 1 of 3 or 4 items I really needed. On a good day, when all the items are stocked up, I walk out happy. Prices are pretty good. Much better than most other place. So that's what's most important. They also carry a wide range of foods...especially hard to find "premium" pet food. The negatives are: they never answer the phone. So calling to see if they have your hard-to-find product in the store is pointless because they just don't pick up. Also, their hours suck. Only open to 6pm Mon thru Thurs. And open to 7pm on Friday & Sat. I've driven out there twice after running out of dog food only to find the store closed. Those hours aren't exactly customer friendly. If you work full time (and who doesn't?), that gives you very little time to get over there before they close. read more

The rudest sales/cashier I have ever come across. I unknowingly got in the wrong spot to check out and Brenda said (shaking her head) "the line starts back there" so rude that I felt like walking out! It is in a very stupid spot, other people didn't even know. Another person asked me, are you in line? It's not just me who thinks the start of the line is ridiculous. So heads up on Brenda at the store on Mound Rd. If I could of given negative -5 I would have. No excuse for that kind of rudeness. This place is creepy as hell. Most of the staff is too.. the cashiers aren't too bad.. but my God.. I used to go to K-9 quite often as they were a no frills and very inexpensive place to get stuff for my dogs. I tolerated the "Hills have eyes" atmosphere because of the lower prices than the chain stores, but recently the prices on the dog food we buy has gone crazy high- higher than the chain stores. This place is great and they have everything. I have a little puppy and she didn't like her food. They helped me to find a new food, and told me if she didn't like that just bring it back with the receipt and they would take it back towards another food. They promised they would work with me to find a food she will like! Well, she liked the food they pointed me to and all is good. The store is disgusting. I would be shocked if it's been cleaned once in the past 10 years. There were bugs flying everywhere so I chose not to risk it by not buying my dogs food here. Yes, the prices were low but no matter how low they are it's not worth giving my dog something that could be unsafe or have rat pee all over the bag. I would HIGHLY suggest paying the couple extra dollars at ANY other pet store. The cashiers are very friendly though! It seems they are just stuck at the registers due to the long lines they constantly have and can't really help customers but it's not their fault. This is a perfect example of a store that prides itself on the lowest prices anywhere, even if the store itself leaves a lot to be desired. This is, for all intents and purposes, a dirty old store run by slow long-standing workers who have accepted the time-honored routine of doing things the old way, modern advances be damned. Every time we're there, at least one thing we were going to pick up is out of stock. That's probably because their inventory management consists of an old guy walking through the aisles with a clipboard. And when you try to make a "special" order for something you want to buy, good luck ever getting a call that it's come in. Most of the time, the lady in back doesn't even order it for you, and you have to be pushy just to get her to do her job. But as it stands, I'll continue coming here because it's close to work and has by far the cheapest pet supply prices of anywhere I've ever been. I've been shopping here for years. In the beginning, I was so excited about the cheap prices. Now I only shop here as a last resort. The place is filthy, you can smell cat urine in the store and they have products that have been sitting on the shelves at LEAST for 5 years (and it shows, with the many layers of dust on grime on some of the shampoo bottles). They often stock expired food and when I noticed that my dog's food was expired they did not seem bothered by this, and did not even offer to mark down the price. I don't even bring my dog in the store anymore because it's just too icky. I'd rather pay full price for a bag of dog food that is not expired or covered in cat urine. read more

Prior to my first trip to K9 I read some reviews and I was almost expecting to see rats running around and dirt on the floor. No, this place might not be as well lit and have the shiny new floors of a brand new Petco, but it's hardly the dump that some people make it out to be. This store is fine as far as cleanliness goes. Well yes it just shows you people will go through anything for a good deal. They totally lack customers service, rarely answer their phone ,or it is busy. Probably off the hook which I find annoying, but a deal is a deal. In this economy they have the lowest prices around. I wish they did appreciate their customers more though. I drive from a very long distance and find it laughable that I have to mail in an order just so I can have the product I am going there for. This is kind of pitiful. They obviously are making money or would not be in business for the years they have been there. I would think it would be beneficial to just have one person man the phone. Especially since they know people come from long distances. My other complaint is if they do order something for you they often make the mistake of putting it on the shelf and when I get there it is gone. That flat out sucks and is very poor business. I went here today for this first time after hearing about their low prices. Ive read the negative. This place is what it is. Its a warehouse type place with toms of brands. I like Blue Buffalo but cringe at the price at pet stores. Here it was $26.99 for a 15lb bag. Elsewhere, abt $33. Also they had the big 23lb and 40lb boxes of Arm&Hammer cat litter. ($10.99 for 23lb One cashier with a consistent line, to be expected. It is a bit tough getting thru aisles with a cart so when checking out I asked if they carried the electric grooming shears for dogs. )Theyre stocked behind a display case) She stepped away and brought me back 2 to choose from. They were pricey for my needs so I declined. She returned them. I didnt expect her to walk away from her line to get them for me, so that was nice of her to do so. Store has some great prices but some are more than a local pet store or even Meijer. Always dirty on the inside, meaning there is always spilled dog or bird seed on the floor. I used to work at K9, I worked there for about 5 months i had to get out of there as fast as possible worst job ive ever had. Horrible pet store, they keep the food in semi trucks parked in the parking lot and on hot days that will spoil the dog food. The place is infested in cockroaches and wild mice. they do a "bleach" mop once a week to keep them off the sales floor (mixing half water and half bleach and flooding the store and then mopping it up). The owner Claude told me to tell the customers that they were crickets because if i said what they really are they wouldn't want to shop here. Had a few times where customers would walk out because they seen them. The warehouse where the dog food is kept is never cleaned and is badly infested. As cheap as they are I would never shop there, wild mice go to the bathroom all over the dog food bags and we were told not to clean them we don't have time to waste on that and cockroach eggs can be stuck to anything you buy and bought home with you. I had to bleach my shoes and change my clothes outside so I wouldn't bring them into my house. I would defiantly advise everyone that shops there to take a little better look around next time you're in there and watch out for what you buy because for all you know it has cockroach egg in/on it. read more

This place is always so busy but it is dirty and smells funny! The prices are discount but you get what you pay for.

First, they are raising prices on some items a lot during the pandemic. Some things I buy are now MORE than the chain pet stores! The reason for coming to this dumpy store with limited selection was the great prices. Second, and MOST important to me, is that the owner and most employees are not wearing face masks despite being required in the state - but left to the business owners to enforce. I've heard their employees complain about wearing masks, having to take safety precautions, and one 2x complained loudly that the pandemic was a "media hoax." An employee stood less than 2 feet from me - no mask on - talking to a customer on the phone! No reason to be standing near me spreading his mouth germs! The owner had no mask on and was talking to a customer with his mask around his neck, standing less than 1 foot apart, chatting away near the cash registers. Unbelievable! Not worth risking my & my family's health and life to shop here. The owner and employees need to volunteer in the Covid unit of a hospital for a day. Maybe that will change their dangerous attitudes & behavior. I'm so upset I was in that store today dealing with that! read more

I heard about this place from a coworker. I was in the area so I decided to stop on in. First things first, this place smells like a barn. It was so offensive that I had to cover my nose with my shirt the entire time I stopped. Second, they didn't carry my dog's brand of food. Third, their selection of dog toys is abysmal at best. This is the best place to go for CHEAP prices on pet supplies. Full line of products for dogs, cats, birds, wild birds, and some livestock (poultry) products. NO frills so don't expect any! I think it's only fair to share that it is easier to move mountains than get them on the phone, which really detracts from their overall service and is the reason they rate 4 not 5 stars. I travel a long way to take advantage of their savings but many times my time and gas have been wasted when I got there to find out they are out of stock on something I needed. The prices are great for pet food and other products. It's primarily a "help yourself" mentality at K-9, as the staff is busy ringing or stocking. Ask a specific question, though, and you'll get an answer. Employees seem a bit jaded, possibly because of morale issues.
