We arrived to Petco for our grooming appointment 3 minutes late only for Shiori to tell us to our face that 3 minutes was too late and she would not have time to groom our dog. She was obviously still busy with other dogs at the time but instead she rudely told us that the 3 minutes we missed would eat into our dog grooming appointment and it wouldn't be possible to complete the grooming session in time as a result. What a ridiculous, boneheaded way to turn away customers because they overbooked themselves. Super unprofessional and terrible people skills. It is a shame because the Vetco at this location is very nice and provides great, kind service each time we have been. read more

We had our dog groomed here today by the male groomer Dan. Said that our dog should be reported for biting even though we have brought our dog here for over a year and never had an issue before. You would think that a groomer would be able to handle all breeds since not all dogs are as calm especially husky's. Would have taken our tip back if he hadn't waiting to complain until after we tipped. Will be taking our dog to a different grooming place in the future or at the minimum requesting to be helped by anyone but Dan. read more

Bunch of WEIRDO upsellers!! Attempting to buy a beta fish- just that. I got a ridiculous number of strong suggestions that I needed to buy an entire 30 gallon fish tank, water softener, specialty food, and a ridiculous array of items. These fish can live in mud puddles. They attempted to DOUBLE CHARGE me at checkout and shouted " No Refunds!" After I refused their ridiculous upsell of unnecessary items. I just needed a few cans of kitten food and a bag of cat litter. None of the cat litter was priced--no shelf tags or anything and no one was around to help. I skipped the litter, went for some kitten food and took my selection to the very nice cashier who explained that the person who prices the cat litter hadn't come in yet; Yay! Extra stop for me or perhaps I could just wait around awhile. The kitten food cost more than was marked and I went back and found that the shelf tag was for a different product. I also work in retail and am entirely sympathetic to the challenges, but this store is simply not shopable. read more

Alright, so the long and short of it is, these subhuman fart gobblers sold the guinea pig I wanted to someone else. This reprehensible act can never be forgiven and may God have mercy on their souls. I stopped in on my way to work one day to buy a new water bottle for my current guinea pig. Saw the cutest little dark brown tortoise shell baby guinea on display and knew at that moment that I had finally found the perfect pal for my lonely two year old sow back at home. I tried to put a deposit on Clover (yes, I named her) and was told by the Petco associate that they don't do that. Knowing I had a very busy day ahead at work, I offered to pay for Clover in full and pick her up on my way home. Was told they don't do that either. Wtf? Do you or don't you people want my money??? Your rules have grown tiresome. Whatever, I'll see you after work! Fast forward to roughly 8 hours later on my way home, I stop Into Petco and rush over to the small animal area just to find... an empty fucking cage. You heartless fucking bastards sold Clover, and less than an hour before my arrival, if the cashier's story is to be believed. Kick me in the balls and shove me into traffic why don't you. We've been having our 2 small pups serviced here for many years when Jessica was the manager. There were NO problems at that time. Sadly, Jessica transferred to Fla. However, we remained loyal patrons. We cannot book online since we have to book two pups and like to bring them at the same time. When calling and leaving messages..... days go by w/o a return call. So I decided to go in person to book. With these above obstacles, I'm still trying to maintain loyalty and continue as a customer. When going in person , I was met by the grooming manager with this comment " are you waiting for something?" Hmmmm? What happened to "hello? Can I help you?" I stated I wanted to book grooming appointments. I could tell by Chelsea's facial expression and body language that she was annoyed to be bothered by me. Chelsea stated it would be " a bit" before she could help me. I asked " what does a bit mean?" Chelsea stated at least 10 mins since there was a dog waiting to be checked in ahead of me. I simply turned to walk out. Chelsea yelled after me and asked if I wanted to call another time to book. I said " no as days go by before my call is returned." I immediately decided to call and take up customer service issues w the store manager. Funny thing.... I asked for the STORE mgr when calling but the grooming mgr. Chelsea, who was too busy to take my appts picked up the transferred call???? She can take a call but can't book in person appts. That's strange. I again, asked for the store mgr. After, a lengthy wait, the manager on duty, not the store GM took the call. I explained what had happened. I received a litany of excuses, they're busy, short handed etc and get this!!! The manager was standing right there so she says and I was the rude one!! Not Chelsea! The funny thing..,, the story she repeated back to me of what the exchange was between Chelsea and I was not EVEN CLOSE to what really occurred!! So now I'm a liar. Unbelievable!! The only person standing anywhere near my exchange w Chelsea was the owner of the dog that was waiting to be checked in. I'm figuring the lengthy wait for the store mgr actually taking the call was because Chelsea who took my call originally was "filling her in" . I also asked the " manager on duty" for her name. She stated she had already told me 3 times and refused to give it to me again so i could write it down. She continued to yell over me trying to talk telling me how rude I am and she hung up on me. THIS IS THE TREATMENT I RECEIVED AFTER COMING HERE FOR 8 PLUS YEARS FOR 2 DOGS TO BE GROOMED. I have paid this store 1,000's of dollars! Not to mention every time we come in we are charged a different higher price for each of our pups. PETCO WILL NEVER SEE ANOTHER DIME OF MY MONEY! They made booking very difficult for us but we still continued to come and after each and EVERY grooming procedure...., we always tipped 20%. BOTH MANAGERS NEED A COURSE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE or better yet FIRED! My advice to potential grooming customers is to RUN NOT WALK AWAY FROM THE WARREN DEQUINDRE LOCATION. I would say my experience was okay... the groomer didn't seem very personable at first. There were things I needed to tell her but she seemed uninterested. They also did not tell me in advance not to medicate my dog prior to groom (this is not an issue at her normal place). I felt like me bringing my dog there was an Inconvenience to them. When I went to pickup my dog, I was told "oh she's on break" when I had just received a call 10 minutes prior saying I could pick her up. The gentlemen who finally helped me was very nice. Overall I was disappointed with the customer service skills. Maybe a good place for a fill in if the other groomers are booked like my case. They did a good job but the customer service skills were just not there for me. I'd only go back if I had to. read more

I should note that this review is not on the store itself, but regarding Puppy Playtime. I went today for the first time with a 5 month old chihuahua mix. DO NOT go to this if you have a small dog. A 6 month old German Shepherd and yellow lab are large by comparison. My dog was first bullied into a corner by a German Shepherd mix. The trainer was slow to break it up. Again my dog was bullied into a corner and then attacked by a husky which was barking and growling. Since I was blocked by a chest high wall I had to yell "Hey!" to the oblivious trainer and point toward the scuffle. I am very lucky that I had the forethought to put a sweater on my dog because the bite of the husky ripped threads from the sweater. The trainer slowly walked over and picked up my dog and I asked to have him so that I could leave. I will never return to this. It was a terrifying and mismanaged experience. Another couple left because the same German Shepherd kept bullying their dog after they were vocal about the problem several times. A yellow lab also kept trying to hump the other dogs. Both the lab and the German Shepherd were owned by the same owner who should have been asked to leave, but she clearly had some rapport with the trainer and was on a first name basis. This is advertised as a chance to socialize new pups in a controlled environment. It was more of a 15 dog brawl in a 12'x15' space. Until they have a separate play time for small dogs or allow owners of small dogs to remain in the pen, one trainer is not enough. Again, I couldn't recommend against this enough for small dogs and I feel that I was lucky to make it out with my dog unscathed (aside from his sweater). I just hope the experience doesn't emotionally scar him (as he is already very timid having been a neglected/abused rescue), and I feel terrible for have subjected him to this disaster. read more

I came in to buy expensive kitten food so I really didn't appreciate the shitty attitude from your employee when I said I got my kittens from a breeder. I didn't come to your store to be judged and did it ever occur to anyone that kittens from breeders have to go to someone or they become rescue cats? The attitude that I don't only own rescue cats was seriously off putting. BTW I *HAVE* rescue cats along with my purebred Siamese kittens, I'm sorry if there aren't a lot of those in the rescue bins but the short hair is better for my allergies and they need homes too. My cousin frequents this Petco, so we decided to give it a try. We are elated that we found Sarah. She has been our groomer for over a year now. Don't take your dog here for a nail cut. My dog has never had a problem before. The girl who took her back was very nice but I think new and nervous. She had no business taking my dog back there by herself. 20 minutes later. My dog comes out obviously very anxious, with only one and a half paws done. The groomer in charge (who was only in the room for the last couple minutes) just said "she was way too anxious today"...I would be anxious too if I was tied up for 20 minutes for one paw. I got her in the car and two of the nails were bleeding, which I wasn't told...I found out when taking her out the car. They didn't make me pay obviously, but I will never do it again. read more

MY DOG WAS BLEEDING!!! Can I give a negative star? Sam the groomer is a butcher! Twice I said my dog doesnt need her nail cut, she just had them trimmer AND buffed at this same location less than a month ago. When I picked her up she was bleeding on three of nails because they had been cut and cut to short. Sam was gone and the dog trainer said it was my dogs fault!! Very lightly staffed store. It's great for just a small shopping trip, but it can be very difficult to get help. I have a couple of little critters who eat crickets, and I've waited 10-15 minutes several times before getting help, or I've just left empty handed when I have a schedule to keep. It's a nice place but the two times I have been to this one it seems hard to find some one to wait on me. Not only is the cat food cheap but they do greet me with a smile every time I walk in but it quickly changes 5 minutes later when I'm ready to get out of there with my cat food. There was multiple employees that clearly saw me but didn't take the time to ring me up. I have worked in customer service for most of my adult life and I know that this is unacceptable. I give it a 3 because they are very friendly when I walk in and help when I'm looking for something but it becomes hard to find folks when I want to pay and get out of there. The first time in the store I let it slide because I understand that things like this happen some times but 2 times I come in consecutively means that this is the usual behavior. read more

This Petco recently moved into the newly redone Universal Mall Plaza (12 mile rd. and Dequindre). I do not buy food from Petco or use their grooming salon, but I do go there for their Pet Photography done by Sue Aiken. She does a phenomenal job and her prices are outstanding. I would recommend her to anyone wanting to have their pets photo done. She even took some of my nieces with the dogs that were amazing, so the family could get involved. read more

Bought an Anole for my son and had some issues with the little critter. He wasn't eating and his foot fell off so we decided to return him and exchange the little guy for something that required less maitence, a Hermit Crab. When we came to return the Anole the manager was giving us excuses at first about his condition but quickly became more cooperative and let us do the exchange we wanted. The guy that helped us pick out a hermit crab was very polite and helpful, I wish I could remember his name but I've always had trouble with names. read more

Pros: clean, usually has what I need, helpful staff Cons: stalkery staff, usually out of small/medium items for dogs, cart situation between sliding glass doors, pricey I always go to this Petco because it's close by. I usually always get asked by at least one staff member if I could be helped. The products here are always significantly more expensive than Pet Supplies Plus. I usually have a hard time finding small/medium items for my dog (sending me elsewhere...). The carts between the sliding glass doors are always a mess and it makes me worry about those who are handicapped attempting to get into the store. My biggest complaint about this Petco is the bored, stalkery staff. Usually I get at least 2+ staff members asking if I could use any help, which is nice, however they all seem to think I have the time to stop and talk to them for 10 minutes about my pets. If their managers are asking them to do this, I advise they stop because it is incredibly annoying. I'm an in-and-out kind of lady. However, I had the worst experience today. I had to get some cat food and went up to the store. Unfortunately, I need to describe what I was wearing to make the entry clear. I was wearing shorts (long ones), and a baggy silk top that is open in the back. I was not wearing a bra because of my horrible sunburn. I had 4+ staff members stop me asking if I needed help. One of them for some reason decided to follow me through a couple aisles asking if I needed help, while, obviously, staring at my effing tits. Then he unfortunately was my cashier. Like, seriously bro, they're boobs and I look like a lobster. Anyways, beware of the lonely men who work at Petco. read more

I went here to get some cat food for urinary health that isn't sold at Walmart or Meijer. It wasn't on the selves but an employee went to the back and got it for me. She was very nice and helpful. On the way out I had some questions about the grooming services. The lady there was also really nice and answered all my silly questions about nail trimming and the ties they use to keep the dog in place. I've never had a bad experience at Petco. If I could give this place a zero, I would! Petco grooming is terrible to say the least. First off they do not listen. If you say "not to short", you better believe they are using a triple zero guard?! Every dog no matter if it a Bernese Mountain Dog or a chihuahua. They all look uniform. Beady owl eyes. And shaved down to skin and bone. Secondly, I believe these so called "groomers" are not groomers at all. They are just people who took a "one week course" of how to shave down. Treat your dog with negligence at times and call them sweety when they walk them out. Do not expect exceptional service. Our regular groomer isn't open on Thursdays, so i figure i give petco the benefit of the doubt to atleast give a decent bath. And bath only. So My experience from just the other day. I took in my 50lb Labradoodle. Who is not curly. And only has a 1.5inch coat for the summer. The "groomer" comes from behind the counter and says "let me examine the body?! She takes a look at her ears, gasps! Steps back, and says OH MY GOD, she's matted?! I dont have anytime to shave her ears?! She was so dramatic. Like she alarmed the store that it was a "code red". We've got a matted dog. Shut the whole place down?! Call in the national guard! I mean seriously. What in the hell?! So I kept my cool. I said her ears DO NOT need to be shaved down. I will take her to her regular groomer. Thank you. And walked out. Long story short. I took her in to "fuzzy friends grooming" and Michelle the groomer there did an excellent job de-matting her without any shaving necessary. So if you are satisfied with your dogs looking like "uniform rats". Continue going to petco. Otherwise. Find a quality groomer, who actually is skilled in using shears and is able to cit styles unique to your dogs type. read more

One of the main reasons I shop at this Petco is because there's a Target in the same complex. They usually have what I'm looking for and I love seeing the kitties up for adoption by the front door; however, that's about all this store has going. I've experienced rude employees who do nothing but stare at you while you shop, a cashier who helped another customer before myself even though I was in line first, and (while I was in line, waiting for the cashier) another employee who just sat behind the counters and completely ignored me.
