My happy and healthy dwarf crayfish from this shop. He has a taste for mollies, though lol

This little shop has been in business since I was a kid (a really long time) and it's one of my go-to places for my aquarium needs. Their fish and plants are healthy, the tanks are clean, and the people working there are very knowledgeable about all things fish keeping. Good selection of fresh and saltwater livestock, and supplies. Yeah, prices are a little higher than a big box pet store, but you get what you pay for.

It's been along time since I've been here, I heard there's been a change of ownership. Whatever has happen its for the better. It's a large store and packed with all types of saltwater live stock and dry goods. It's has fresh water and other stuff, it's just not my interest so I didn't look at that stuff. They have a large variety of saltwater fish, inverts and allot of corals. Tons and tons of different types of coral, I was truly impressed. I was really not expecting much and was pleasantly surprised. It still could use some work, cleaning and organizing, but for the most part I will come back to look for coral here. The pricing seems a tad on the high side, but if they can justify it by cleaning up I think I can accept to pay a little more.

Oscar severely overrun by ich and clearly not being treated.

I've been going to this Petco for about six months both as a shopper (mostly for dog and fish…read moresupplies) and as a grooming client with appointments every three weeks. The store itself is clean and everyone is friendly, my only complaint is that the fish department is typically a little limited on inventory but that doesn't often impede our ability to find what we need so it's barely a complaint at all. Side note their clearance section is AWESOME. What I want to RAVE about is the grooming salon and my personal favorite person- Juan. He's super friendly and my dogs love him, he always does a BEAUTIFUL job on them and he goes above and beyond literally every time. He finishes everyone up in a timely manner and is super accommodating and just all-around a treasure. My dogs always look amazing and feel good after their time with Juan. I always mention him in the surveys that Petco sends to me after my appointments but had never thought to post a review before for some reason even though he's always stellar. But today was a little different. We shaved down my mini poodle mix for the first time in a while in anticipation of summer. He's been super floofy and I didn't realize how loose his collar was when I put it on him to leave the shop with all the extra hair gone. To be clear, the owner puts the collar and leash on the dog because they bring them out from the back in slip leads so it was 1000% my fault for not realizing how loose it was. Unfortunately my little booger slipped his collar and took off down the sidewalk while I tried to follow him and simultaneously wrangle my other dog who was feeding off of my panic and ended up wrapping us both around a pole. Thankfully my mini poodle mix started heading back my way after I called to him but ended up seeing something more important in the walkway going toward the back part of the parking lot behind the shopping center and headed off to explore in that direction. Meanwhile I was still trying to free myself and my other dog from the pole (keep in mind this all happened in probably 45 seconds but it felt like a lifetime). This is the part where I'm going to remain ever grateful and in awe of Juan and just how much he cares about our dogs. He'd seen my little guy slip his collar and came running out just as I was able to get my other dog untangled. He told me he would get him for me and came back with my little adventurer in his arms, I adjusted the collar so it would fit correctly and got him all secured and Juan even asked if he could help me get my dogs in my car. I was still in adrenaline mode and don't feel like I thanked him nearly enough in that moment or maybe even at all (I was also trying to put on a brave face and not cry) but I am so so grateful. I don't know if Juan knows this but my mini poodle mix got out of a gate at my old house and was hit by a car three years ago. Watching him run around near a parking lot and a busy street was my worst nightmare, knowing that he would not be lucky enough to survive this time if he were to make it out into the street again. My boy looks adorable because of Juan, but more importantly he's likely still alive because of him, too and that's even more important. Thank you so much, Juan. You're the best!!

Immediately after entering the store I was assaulted with the pungent odor of feces, urine, and a chemical smell I can only describe as ammonia. Genuinely the smell made me nauseous and I still cannot put my finger on the exact cause of the odor. I had seen a previous review by a pregnant woman and disregarded it, thinking maybe it was just a sensitivity due to pregnancy. No, this place smells like absolute death. It stuck to my hair, my clothes, and all the items I purchased. I bought $200 worth of items for a snake tank, all of which were soaked with the odor. I attempted to hose the items down, sprayed them with heavy chemicals, and let them air outside for 4 days. The smell stuck to everything despite the intense chemical treatments and my hardest efforts. My receipt let me know everything was final sale and nonrefundable, something I wish I would have been told prior to purchasing. However, I did call the store to tell them I cannot use the items. I was told I would not get a refund, but I said I would like to return them anyways, otherwise I would just throw everything away which felt wasteful. They were understanding and sweet, giving me a $50-$75 store credit and a sealed bag of bedding for my troubles. Although the bag itself smelled, thankfully the bedding was not penetrated by the odor due to being completely airtight and sealed. I don't think I will be returning to use the store credit but I'm grateful for the efforts made my the staff. I did appreciate that and I know it is not the worker's fault. I feel absolutely horrible for the employees working in these conditions. On both occasions of visiting (initial purchase and returning the items) all of the employees I spoke to were so kind and helpful to me - that is the ONLY reason I give this place 2 stars. I would seriously never recommend this establishment to anyone I liked.
