Really, the food wasn't awful, but nothing to write home about, either. Our server wasn't friendly at all, though. Never got her name. She had zero personality, even after trying to engage her in friendly conversation. It's not like the place was screaming busy and she had so many other pressing things to do. We were there early afternoon on a Thursday, there were a bunch of servers on shift, and the other customers appeared to be locals. Maybe we took her away from her favorite local people, maybe she was having a bad day, maybe she hates her job. Whatever the reason, she was the biggest disappointment of our visit. I eat here often I LOVE the food. I love the atmosphere. The staff is great and it's clean. But this time we came in and waited about fifteen minutes before being greeted by our waitress "Camron" I think was her name. Real sweet girl but not attentive. It wasn't busy. We waited about 20-30 minutes for our food. While our waitress was sitting down talking on her phone. We ended up leaving before we got our food. Was really impressed with darn near everything that I had, as well as my coworker. Started with the mushrooms, they came out hot and they didn't take that long. Got the protein plate, hamburger patty, cottage cheese, tomatoes and cottage cheese. The portions were good and the hamburger steak, was well seasoned. Got a piece of chocolate pie, it was also very good. Coworker got the bologna sandwich and jalapeño macaroni and cheese. He said all were very good. He got the coconut cream pie, and was very happy. The portions that we received for all our food were very acceptable and for the price, were exceptional. This will definitely be a restaurant that I return to when in Ponca. read more

We were wanting home style food for lunch as we made a quick trip down to Ponca on a weekday. After several passes on other chain restaurants we decided to give JW Cobbs a try. We loved our waitress! All the staff was so great and very attentive. It seemed it was a regular spot for many locals and everyone knew everyone by name. I loved the atmosphere and I do believe they have the best chicken sandwich I have ever had! Both our meals we delicious and HUGE for not much money. JW Cobbs is a diamond in the rough. I'm a French fry person. I judge an eating establishment by the quality of its French fries. Cobbs obviously has more than one cook. Some French fries come to the table properly cooked--a little crunchy and very little grease--cooked to perfection! On another day the French fries arrive limp, wimpy and greasy--almost inedible. Cobbs menu has a wide variety of items--we've tried many of them and have found all items to be quite tasty. All in all, a good family restaurant with quite reasonable prices. The workers are over worked but yet retain a friendly attitude--they deserve a good tip! read more

I've been looking for good places to eat in ponca City and this family restaurant is exactly what you'd expect. The place is cozy and quaint and very family restaurant looking. I got an order to go but the staff was very accommodating and very pleasant to deal with. So the food I ordered the smothered chicken with sauteed mushrooms and havarti but it also inspired me to order a side order of extra sauteed mushrooms and it was well worth it I wish I'd gotten two side orders. I also ordered the side salad and it was beyond my expectations of being fresh. Quite a value for the food I received I'll definitely be back and they serve breakfast all day!!! read more

The service was quick and friendly. The catfish was excellent as were the fries. The side salad was very fresh. The chicken fried chicken was huge, but it had too much breading. The rolls were delicious and as big as your hand. We also tried the coconut pie and chocolate pie. The filling was good, but the crust was so tough you couldn't cut it. We arrived at JW's right at 11 o'clock. One of the kitchen staff was removing the items from the breakfast buffet and our party of seven sat down and we ordered our drinks and we were given menus. Two people ordered chicken fried steaks, which came with two sides. One got mashed potatoes and gravy and corn and I got the side salad with okra. I also added a side of fried onions and mushrooms. The chicken fried steak was breaded lightly and was very tender. Adding the mushrooms and fried onions was a game changer. I would highly recommend this. I gave a bite of my steak to my sister with onion and mushroom and she 100% agreed it was delicious. The waitress said not many people add mushrooms and onions to their chicken fried steak, well do yourself a favor and do it, it's really really good. The chicken fried steaks came with white gravy. The side salad came with tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions, and very good homemade ranch. The waitress said they also have two other housemaid dressings. They also brought a big basket of fresh rolls to the table. The other people in the party got a protein plate, a hamburger, taco salad, turkey and dressing and bacon and cheese fries, all looked delicious. I paid for the two chicken fried steaks and the protein plate and before tip it came to $38. This is very much a mom and pop diner. This restaurant is an old fashioned diner. Inexpensive, hearty portions. However there is NO patio to sit at.

Huge double bacon cheese burgers! Generous amounts of fries! Great cafe food and they have bbq buffets on Fridays and Saturdays. Closed on Sundays. Can't remember when they have it, but they also have breakfast buffets. read more

This place wasn't really my type. I thought I would give it a try and I'm glad I did. The food was ok, the service was good and nothing was bad. The food is just kinda plain and there are a lot of elderly people so it was really quiet and somber! This is a great family restaurant. I usually go here for breakfast - nice "greasy spoon" quality food without the greasy spoon smell on your clothes. Their coffee is a perfect diner cup o' joe, from some local company who sells to them. The biscuits and gravy are just what they should be and the price point canNOT get any better: $6 for steak and eggs, chicken fried steak and eggs, pork and eggs, or heck anything and eggs! All the breakfast items are great here (they even know how to poach an egg!) and on Saturday they have a breakfast buffet (ends at 11am) - So Ponca does do BRUNCH! hehe My recent outing reminded me why it's ALWAYS good at JW's - we were too late for breakfast so we got lunch. YUM. Chicken Fried Chicken! Can't get that just any day of the week in Wisco, so I was very happy with that, some perfectly fried okra and those "momma cooked em" green beans! PS. I confirm those "homemade rolls are to die for" statement by Lani. Soft and fluffy - they peel apart with warm steam rising. Portions are made big for the local farmers/ranchers, and they are still using "grandma's" recipes here. There is a Sunday Buffet with lunch items (fried chicken on the bone) for something cheap $8-11 (?) for after church. If you aren't from here or just passing through, this is where a local will tell you to try some regional dishes. A nice homestyle diner. The food is great, and the service good. I visited (twice) in June, 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, and none of the staff was wearing masks, but social distancing was good. Seemed to be mostly locals dining there (I also ate here with locals, breakfast both times). I'd definitely eat here again! read more

This is a down home place to grab some food chow for a fair price. You always want to check the parking lot before you try to eat here. If there isn't a place to park there won't be a place to sit. If you're lucky enough to get in now is the time to be honest with yourself about the circumference of your waist. Be fare warned that the side booths are not for big boys! You will not be able to breathe so don't even try it just sit at a table with a chair. Okay now that you have a seat it's time to check the dry erase board for the daily specials. I know you see the pie but stay focused here. The servers are running to keep this place going and turning tables. If you make em stop too long you will throw off their game so don't be that guy! Almost everything is good so don't worry about what to pick. My tip is to ask for honey for the homemade rolls! read more

I recently moved to Ponca and had heard rave reviews about this place. We stopped by on a weekend when they had some kind of buffet. The service was good and the employees pleasant. The place is run down, kind of dirty, and very small. The food was terrible. The chicken was rubbery and not very good. The buffet looked like a real mess without anybody taking time to clean throughout the day. The choices were limited on the buffet and what they had was not very good. Despite the low quality food and drab appearance, the place was packed. I just dont understand how this place can be so popular. read more

Hot homemade rolls--I love them! I had ordered a simple lunch--beef soup and a side of tabouli (yes! in NE OK you'll find tabouli!), my friend ordered a chef's salad with turkey. A basket of four hot, better than "my mom" can make, rolls appeared on our table. Yowser--these weren't just wonderful homemade rolls, these were bites of Nirvanah! My beef soup arrived--overflowing with chunks and shreds of beef--more beef than soup broth. Barely room to dunk my rolls! The tabouli was lemony--but could have used a bit more mint and a couple chops of cucumber. My friend was pleasantly surprised with her salad. Yes, it was iceburg, but fresh and crisp loaded with sliced egg and vegetables. And, the best was that the turkey wasn't cubed deli-turkey, but chunks of dark and light off the bone turkey. Yay--yay! Only two dark marks--no butter, only spread (ick!) and the waitress charged me $1 for water. The $1 was taken off when I brought it to the cashier's attention. read more

I usually go to El Patio when I travel to Ponca City, somewhat less often than the average Blue Moon. Car dealership recommended it and it was decent. I'd go back again if I wasn't in a mood for Mexican. I wasn't just overwhelmed but as divey places go, it was clean and most of the food was tasty. I wanted to go low-carb so they substituted the rolls for a bowl of cottage cheese for a small up charge. However, I apparently got the last of the container as it was beginning to "turn"...not spoiled rotten but not clean and creamy tasting too. We notified the waitres,s but nothing was done to make it right: so... Maybe I won't be wanting to check or pit again if I go back sometime before the next Blue Moon. Who knows? I love places like this. Small town, locals places that simply serve great food. I hate that places like this often get overlooked in favor of chain restaurants like Chilis or Cracker Barrel. We have noted a downward trend over the past 6 months. They no longer take credit or debit cards and the quality and taste of the food has declined. Food has been repeatedly lukewarm when served. They're pies, which used to be spectacular are mediocre at best and the pies we were served last night were served without meringue because "the cook didn't want to make it!". Another of Ponca city's favorite place and WHY? I can't understand. Where to start, well first off, place is disturbingly filthy, and I don't mean from being busy. Comes from years of neglect. Steak special I ordered was wayyyy overpriced and not very good. Staff was in dirty, greasy clothes and I'm sure you wouldn't want to see the kitchen.
