Spas and pampering are not my thing. I've bought packages and treatments for the wife but didn't quite know what to expect from a couples massage. In the middle of a street in Koreatown, NYC, you enter a shabby looking entrance and take a very small elevator upto Juvenex, where you're greeted with tranquil scent, running water and humid air. The entrance is a great contrast the grubbiness. Lockers with keys are in the changing rooms, and the spa provides robes, slippers and paper undergarments. The spa package included a soaking tub with a bottle champagne and fruit snacks. The full body scrub was performed by two industrial spa mechanics who scrubbed my shark like skin until there were lumps of it all over the table in an unappealing mass. I apologized and thanked them for using what felt like the plastic brushes designed to get the grime off of cars at a car wash. The deep tissue massage was something I'd been needing (no pun intended) for a while for neck and shoulder pain, and while uncomfortable was conducted well and professionally, and eased pain for several days / week afterwards. My skin felt much healthier and wasn't as sore this winter as a result. As a pricey treat I'd recommend Juvenex, the couples massage is a worthy gift for your partner. read more

I get body scrubs done all the time and have gone to different ones in NYC. This one is probably the smallest. 3 small tubs, one of which is cold. 1 sauna, 1 steam room. I like this place because it is cozy and intimate. I was the only one there for the majority of my time and I was there for over 2hrs. On a Saturday lat The body scrub is throughly done. My sister in law and I came here for a body scrub for the first time ever so we weren't sure what to expect.. however we left with glowing skins and just so relaxed before we got back to reality. Once you check in, you're given a pair of plastic slippers to wear for your stay and escorted to the locker room to change into.. you're suppose to be completely nude (we went before it was co Ed so women only on our floor) under your robe. So.. that's exactly what I did but you can keep your bathing suit on too. First stop.. dry sauna. So apparently it's suppose to be a no talking zone. They need to put a sign up or something bc a lady angrily walked out as we were chatting lol. Oops? It was our first time so like.. somewhere an etiquette sheet should be posted lol. It was nice to sweat through the dry heat though. Next up.. wet sauna. You're hit by a powerful blast of like herbal steam. I don't think I can last more than a minute there but they do encourage you to do it for 5 min. Jacuzzi pools.. uh.. I don't know how sanitary this part is and people do go in fully naked and idk if they shower beforehand or not but we felt kinda icky so got out pretty quick. Body scrub time.. so you're laid on top of a plastic massage chair faced down and they just do a light scrub to get rid the ickiness from the last person (who is there in their bday suit) so if you're a germaphobe.. idk how you'd feel BUT it is all soap and you are gonna get an intense body scrub and smell really good so I mean. All good! My lady was "beautiful heidi" who is incredible!! She kept complimenting me and just giving me the best scrub of my life.. all your dead skins will melt away (yuck!!) and best part is the hair massage.. because 1. Who loves washing their own hair and 2. You smell amazing after. Lasted maybe an hour? Idk but the exfoliation was amazingly!!! We also got the facial service and uh be ready for your entire face to be CLEAN. I have 0 blackheads and my eyebrows are nice and plucked. Middle of the road spa in Koreatown most notable for their Korean body scrub treatments. I appreciate the reviews that are upfront, to help set expectations. Had a good experience by going on an off day at an off time, and focused on the saunas and body scrub only. The soaking tubs are quite shallow, any average height or even shorter would only have water up to right below chest level. So that was disappointing when trying to soak before the scrub. The tubs were not full or hot in the late morning, which was another inconvenience. And the women's floor wet sauna is broken and appears to have been for a long time. Overall the place is old and rundown but not in a truly terrible way. Service was good, not rushing or overbearing, which made the other inconveniences fine. Perhaps it's cultural, but the body scrub room would benefit from simple divider screens between tables--multiple different people can be in the one body scrub room/area at one time. Staff walk in and out freely opening the 'door' (curtain) to the area throughout. Scrub was thorough. You sign a simple waiver when arriving. The spa is boring and the vibe is so eerie. a bunch of showers, the salt room was HORRIBLE! It's just a little warm room and salt in some baskets. Huh??? This was nothing like a traditional Korean spa. There's two floors which you won't know about unless you do some of your own snooping around. I visited New York the last week of September for my birthday and decided to come here after my flight since I took a red eye - my experience was an odd one for sure. The staff maybe because it was late but was kind of rude. But also I was surprised by the amount of men there were and also there was some really uncomfortable flirting and touching by some of the random patrons in the tub area. She was sitting on a few of them and the guys were being handsy also trying to loop us into their conversation.. idk I'm not a prude but I felt weird sharing tub space when that was happening and went there to unwind after a flight not whatever that was. Also I wasn't aware that the men were going to be there to be honest or at least that they would be sharing the same facilities. Also while in the dressing room another woman pulled a staff member in bc she was breaking out in hives - I didn't have that issue but it just kind of seemed like one weird thing after another. I did enjoy the body scrub I received and thank god it was closed off and private because at that point I wasn't sure. They did use an empty unline garbage can barrel thing to fill the water - it was clean and seemed to be used only for water in that area but again, odd. The woman gave me pineapple and tea after the body scrub which I enjoyed but I kind of couldn't wait to get out of there to be honest. I personally wouldn't return or recommend to others. This spa had a $75 entrance fee for 3 hours. They provided disposable bathing suits (but it's see through so it's as if you didn't wear anything). They gave us pineapple and barley tea. There were showers (private available), cold & hot baths, steam room, sauna, salt room and infrared room. My friend who frequent spa in LA and Seattle says that those spas are better and half the price. I love the sauna, hot tub, cold tub, and steam room. It's very relaxing overall. Fortunately for me, there's less than 10 people whenever I've been here. After your services conclude, you're treated with fresh pineapple and tea, which I love. I plan to come here once per season. It's great and wonderful that it's open 24 hours. I've seen Maria who's amazing and would return to her anytime. Didn't catch the name of my second masseuse but will update when I return. Of course the facilities are very nice. Lots of different options for steam room and the one sauna is nice and hot. However, I was really disappointed by the salt rock cave as it was not hot at all and there was one large man sitting right in front of the heating element in that room so that was a real downside. I really love the salt rock caves in Koream spas my hometown of Honolulu. They are hot and surround you with the soft glow of that Himalayan rock crystals all around. Other pluses were the creamy pineapple offered at the end of a treatment --the variety tasted like a low acid pineapple, which are hard to find in Hawaii where I live, This was served along with lukewarm corn tea immediately after I finished my massage I didn't opt for a scrub the first week I was in New York City because my skin is very sensitive when I transition from the subtropics to a dry climate like the New York winter. I will say that I thought things were a bit pricey especially after already spending $155 for a 60 minute massage and then getting told I would be up charged another $50 if I chose to use the spa to me that's just much Too much l...in Hawaii. The admission to spa amenities is included in a full package so for example in Honolulu, 130 for a scrub and massage includes admission to use the sauna, steam, and tubs. I do not like that it's coed after 5 PM. It seems to me that with the size of this place they could easily divide men and women and not have the genders mixed every night after 5 PM I guess it just seems a little odd to me when the majority of those attending are women anyway. Very quiet and peaceful, they kind of shuffle you around and tell you where to go and come get you when its time for the next thing. Salt room first, we enjoyed that, set the mood a bit. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. We walked into a random building with a sketchy outside and I already knew this wasn't going to be great. We check in which was seemless and got out robes and area to change (which is just a separated area behind a wall, no rooms or stalls to have privacy). The main area itself has 3 jacuzzi sized tubs that weren't full when we got there, a worker started filling the main tub that for some reason had oranges floating around so the oranges were just boiling in the water, in the other tub a worker walked in with her slippers and used a dirty rag to clean the sides and then just squeezed the dirty water right into the tub and continued filling the water, the last jacuzzi was about 1/10th full and just had ice cold water. Needless to say, I only put my feet in the jacuzzis. The saunas were also just average, the dry sauna on the main floor was a tiny little hut with extremely low ceilings. The wet sauna wasn't bad just really small. There was a salt one was good and a good size. I just didn't enjoy this experience, I would never go back. read more

There are no sound barriers so you're always hearing someone cleaning, talking, or moving things in general. If you have been to the bigger Korean spas like Spa Castle or Premier 57, you may be disappointed. This place is a smaller Korean spa located upstairs in a Koreatown office building. It is not as fancy, modern, or spacious as those ones. The main spa area has only one steam room, one sauna room, and three small bathing pools. For an entrance fee of $50, you do not have much to enjoy actually. However, if you decide to get one of their massages, which were all $75 plus, then you do not have to pay the entrance fee. And you still get access to the main spa facilities. I would recommend doing this. We went for the combo massage, which included various techniques in one session: deep tissue, shiatsu, Thai, and more. The two masseuses were quite skilled actually and made us feel very relaxed. It seemed like almost everyone we saw there went specifically for the massages. One positive about this place was that it was not crowded and felt were laid back. This was probably because we came on a weekday night. I loved coming here! I really wanted a Korean scrub, and felt my skin could use a layer scrubbed away by a strong Korean lady. I bought the scrub and hair wash package and was led to the soaking area. I came during the time where they have a ladies only area. I loved it! So quiet and clean. I don't know Korean, but the women helped me find my way. I was prescribed certain amount of time in each pool and sauna, and when I was ready I was lead to the scrub rooms. I didn't realize that area of co-ed, but my scrub tech was quick to rush a towel to me (oops!). Finally, I had a clay room moment, followed by a sample of pineapple with tea. We had hours to kill in the middle of the cold night, we we decided to stop in for an express massage because it was the only thing open other than McDonalds and a diner in the city that supposedly never sleeps smh! The express massage was 30 minutes and with tax came out to about $100/person!!! It felt nice, but it was nothing special so I definitely would not pay that price again (especially after knowing I can get a longer, better massage for less in a million different places in Chinatown). Our massages were scheduled for 6:30 and we were just waiting around by the tub thinking someone would come get us. Around 6:45, we finally asked someone about it and she took us down to the 4th floor. (Which, we didn't even know existed!) Then, we were taken into a private hot tub with water & sparkling wine (as part of the couples package) and again, just waited in the room for another 20-30 minutes until finally we asked someone again when our massages were going to start. Best spa treatment I have ever had. Hands down. I will be back. I am a solo traveler, 30-something female from the South who is happy to spend money on good self-care beauty treatments. Had my mom or some of my friends been with me, we probably would have turned around, but I am so glad I went through with it as it was money and time very well spent. It was clean and felt safe in what could to many people seem like an unsafe neighborhood, but note it is not the place for a leisure, luxury spa day. This is where you go for the real deal routinely, and the prices reflect that. The staff seemed to appreciate that its location might deter some patrons, and they allowed me to tour the place before committing financially. (You will notice that most of the negative reviews are about the appearance and are no doubt influenced by the surrounding neighborhood (which is noisy)). I had a Korean scrub and it was exactly as I have read an authentic scrub should be. It was rough, not necessarily pleasant but indeed a scrub and I could immediately tell a difference in my skin. I HAVE NEVER HAD A BETTER SPA TREATMENT IN MY LIFE and will probably balk at "luxurious" spa prices from here on out. I suppose that's the price we pay when we allow ourselves to experience something in its most authentic form, free of the marketing veneer and the price associated with it. If I lived in NYC, I would make this relatively inexpensive treatment ($150) a weekly habit. The steam room and sauna are first class as was professional the lady who did my scrub. Also, and one of the best things, was that I did not feel rushed at all. True to their craft, I was encouraged to use the sauna and steam room to prepare my skin fully before my treatment, despite the noticeably increasing amount of patrons checking in to go after me. My treatment was on another floor and the treatment rooms on that floor were exactly what you would expect at an upscale hotel spa (such as the Ritz), with the exception being the scrub room which resembles more of a sports locker room that doubles as a shower. I went at 7pm, when the steam room and the sauna are coed. There were some patrons who were not abiding by the rules. Still, due to the darkness and large size of the facility it was not uncomfortable and I felt like my privacy was protected. They made sure I had a swimsuit before entering, as they did with others, which I appreciated even if some patrons ignored it; they did so in the pitch dark however and covered up in the public areas. I am giving it 4 stars because of the lack of tidiness; there were sloppy handwritten signs in places where I feel like they could have posted things more professionally, which - at a spa - adds to the comfort level. We went for spa access only, no massage or facial add on treatments. There were no hot soaks with jets or moving water. There were shared baths (still water, no cycling) that were warm but not hot. The steam saunas were great and the dry saunas were nice too. The biggest lacking thing was hot pool. Also nobody was being instructed to shower first or shower after using the bathroom, etc. We knew to do so having visited many other spas, but it's unclear that other patrons would have. Now the first part of the visit was delightful even though the staff was rushing us through the spa itself, my company and I really enjoyed the spa tub and intimate space. Much of the other parts of the spa had been closed off due to Covid-19, but that didn't reflect in the price which was fine, however my issue arose during my massage. I had a woman by the name Beautifull and she seemed a bit perturbed, but proceeded with the massage which felt like was a rub down to grease/lotion my skin.
