First time with this business. Their online check-in right now isn't as smooth as others. They send a link to check in electronically, including paying the copay, but when I checked in 17 hours before my appointment, they didn't show either the paperwork I filled out, nor the payment. And I still had more forms to fill out that I should have been able to fill out online! Be aware they take a photo of you if you are a first time patient for your chart. Lastly, even though I said numerous times during being sped through check in, she still asked me if I was a new patient! This will probably be my only visit with this facility. Excellent physician and surgeon. When you pick a surgeon, you want the one who sees the most people and does the most surgeries.

I have a very busy schedule. I would not send anyone to this facility after waiting over 2 hours to see the doctor and listening to other patients complain about this being a normal occurrence. I exhibited plenty of patience today, even when the doctor chose to be frustrated and remove himself from the room simply from me pointing out the unusual nature of the wait time. I am pretty sure he is a great doctor, but that does not make it acceptable to not want to have better scheduling practices at the office. It is unfair to patients when they are turned around if running late or charged if they are a no show, when they would have a long wait to get through the full administrative process and see the actual doctor anyway. I do intend to look further into scheduling guidelines for offices and raise additional complaints if it will help even one other patient have a better experience with their visitation process. My score is low because of these aspects of the practice. Prior to my pointing out my disappointment with the wait, the doctor had been nice. However, he ended the appointment abruptly and walked out when he didn't want to hear me express what I was witnessing and hearing from others waiting. As for staff, they were really good at their jobs despite needing to respond to patient wait complaints continually. Every staff member treated me with care and was respectful. Nonetheless, I will not return and truth is the doctor could care less because more than enough people will still return and only complain but not take any action. I think service is important so their scheduling doesn't work for me. They have appointments scheduled for every 5 minutes, literally. read more

Was excited to try out a new optometry's, I chose this place because it was closer to my home under the list my insurance had. From day one during my appointment the experience was very unprofessional and with no customer service experience. I came for a second follow up to switch my contacts, left and the doctor told me to just call if the new contacts worked and they will order the contacts for me. I called left a message, no response after 24 hours. I had to drive 41 minutes from my house to order contacts in person, and not surprised to find out my prescription wasn't finalized when I was told just to call to order the contacts and of course since they do not answer the phone or return calls no way I would of known that. I had to wait after driving here to get my prescription finalized and order my contacts. This will be my first and last time coming here read more

Dr Gonzales wrote TWO wrong prescriptions to me. The first prescription was made and it was wrong! LensCrafters made the prescription as written. I couldn't read with this prescription!! The prescription was wrong. I went back a second time to Dr Gonzales and he wrongly wrote the second one. I told him the right eye was wrong (while he was performing the test). He insisted it was my left eye. Again I had that prescription made. AGAIN IT WAS WRONG FOR THE SECOND TIME!!! LensCrafters checked the prescription against the newly made SECOND PAIR OF GLASSES. IT WAS SPOT ON THE WRITTEN PRESCRIPTION!! BUT, AGAIN THE PRESCRIPTION WAS WRONG!! I had paid $400.69 for glasses with the wrong prescription!! Also, my insurance paid $$200.00. So in total, my wrongly prescribed glasses were no use to me. I was STUCK WITH USELESS GLASSES FOR THE SECOND TIME!! I gave up and decided not to go back to Dr Gonzales at Houston Eye Associates So I could not use my insurance again. I then went to America's Best Eye in Mont Belvieu and got an exam from Dr S. Nguyen. She was very thorough and showed me the difference in my first two prescriptions from Dr Gonzales at Houston Eye Associates and her Correct Prescription. I had to pay $89.00 for the exam but was happy to since she was spot on with my THIRD exam which was the first time she examined me. So I had to pay cash for my exam and the glasses they made me. THE PRESCRIPTION GLASSES FROM DR NGUYEN PERFECT!!! So then I had to pay a total of $569.95 for the exam and frames for $29.95. After traveling from Dayton, TX to Kingwood twice, a second drive to Lenscrafters's PLUS driving again to LensCrafters to yet again, and get a pair of glasses that are of no use due to Dr Gonzales' wrong prescription. So I ended up having to pay a total of $970.69 just to get the correct plastic glasses so I can see!!! I called H. E. Associates to talk to someone who could do right by me. Dr. Gonzales' secretary told me he "apologizes" but could do NOTHING ABOUT ALL THE EXPENSES I PAID TO GET THE RIGHT PRESCRIPTION AND GLASSES. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!! MY ADVICE TO ANYONE GOING TO HOUSTON EYE ASSOCIATES ABSOLUTELY DO NOT USE DR. GONZALES. I'M NOT DONE YET! I have nothing but praises for them, they explained everything thoroughly and made sure I was always comfortable during the procedure. I used to not be able to see more than 10 feet in front of me without my glasses, and now I can see better than 20/20! Dr Thomas chose today to be rude condescending and arrogant rather than professional. I have never been addressed so rudely by a health care professional. This is not the first incident. He seemingly doesn't like being asked about the possibility a new plan of care after lack of improvement following surgery. His staff have been Stellar and professional. This has not been a pleasant surgical outcome. Respect given to the Doctor should always be returned to the patient. Update to my review since I see the response from Houston eye associates. Don't believe them. I've complained about this to them for years and they did not care at all. I guarantee, if you went there today, you would not be out in under two hours. It's a cattle call. They just want more $ and have no regard for the inconvenience it causes their patients. Following this morning's first appt I thought things were going to vastly improve, only 15 minutes behind schedule, quick, friendly, and to the point. Then we learned that the reason for a second appt this afternoon was to see the doctor who was in surgery in the AM. So, instead of doing both appts back to back, they split the two! I continue to be in disbelief that this facility is still open with the continual complaints heard at the front desk, and from what we've experienced ourselves. Instead of scheduling back to back appointments for someone coming from out of town, they scheduled a 10:15am and then a long break after lunch at 1::15pm - on a day that the doctor has surgery in the morning, not knowing when he will be in - anywhere from 12:30 on... it's 2pm and still no sign from the doctor. I highly recommend if you need Houston eye Associates go to one where the scheduling is good and the patient's time is considered just as valuable as the doctor's and staff. What's more, there is continual miscommunication between staff members and information is frequently not shared or different information given depending on who speaks and when (amazing that different info is shared prior to surgery and clarifications given after instead of up front). After this surgery is done and required follow ups are done where I'm needed as driver this will be the last time I ever come here again... pathetic! read more

I arrived for my 1:55 PM appointment, after making arrangements for childcare for my children, only to discover that the doctor is running a minimum of 1 hour behind. Why do they not have the decency to notify patients if they are so behind schedule? Many of us work or have children we made arrangements for. This is a normal occurrence here and very frustrating. Dr. Justus Thomas is great but the lab is horrible - I'm taking my prescription to TSO or Walmart from now on. My glasses pixelated again (4th time in 1.5 years) and this time, one of Dr. Gonzalez's helpers told me I was on my own - they're not paying for it. Suggested I not get the "glare" protector again since I was having so many problems with it. Instead of the Zeiss glass cleaners causing the problem, now it is the fabric softener "Downy" in our detergent that does it - so full of BS! read more

I just had a yearly eye exam. There was no wait time. The exam started immediately. The secretary and the assistant were courteous an efficient. Dr. Gonzales is great. I would give zero starts if that was an option. I should have cheeked Yelp first. My wife went in to have cataract surgery. Part of the restrictions is for a certain period of time a patient is not supposed to lift anything over a certain weight amount. At the time my wife was working as a stocker at Wal-Mart and thought it would be best to take some time off. It took ten days to get the FMLA paper work back from HEA after it was dropped off. We kept calling and calling to check on it and they said they were working on it and it would be fine. Finally, less than a week before the procedure they decide to produce the documentation so my wife can take time off of work. Then my wife decided to purchase the upgraded lens that insurance will not pay for. The cost for this upgraded lens is approximately $2,000.00. We received a phone call the day before she was scheduled to go in for surgery asking for a credit card to pay this amount. We provided them with a credit card and they provided us with an authorization number that the charge had went through. We arrived at 6:00 A.M. and she is advised that she did not pay for the upgraded lens and she will have to sit and wait until they can confirm she has paid for the upgraded lens. My wife is a diabetic and had not had anything to eat since midnight as per their instructions. The people at HEA knew or should have known she is a diabetic as they required her to get clearance from her primary care doctor before they would perform the surgery. Around 10:30 AM they had an epiphany and realized she did indeed pay for the upgraded lens. We had no problems with the care she received from the doctors. However, the competence of the staff is dubious at best. read more

The staff isn't really friendly here. The doctor seemed to be in a rush/hurry, not so patient. On top of that, it seemed so chaotic everywhere. Iris on the other hand, was the one that helped me pick out my glasses and was really friendly. Don't really recommend this place though. read more

Well I had another appointment with Dr 1960 location 2 this year and same thing happens both time right before the appt I get a call saying My Ins. is not accepted by them even though I saw them 3 times last year. Said I need a referral from my prime Dr whcih I got and they sent to them called back and said all was ok sch appt for 27 get a call today and they say they do not accept my ins again. 2 x this year every time i talk to someone I get different answers from each one. So I am done with this place forever. They need to train all they people who answer the phones what is gong on and stop the lies. I stand strong in defense of HEA, Kingwood. The compassion of Dr. Urso is to blame for a long wait, not overbooking. I have been seeing Dr. Urso for 8+ years and I wouldn't ever consider seeing anyone else. My husband recently passed away and Dr. Urso took the time to ask how I was doing. The sincerity in his eyes let me know he really cared and wanted to be sure I was ok. I apologize to anyone who had to wait that extra 10 - 15 minutes, Dr. Urso was thinking only of me at that time, and not the patients next up. He's always been that way, and he always will be, so keep that in mind for your next visit. He and his "Sidekick" are truly the best of the best! read more

Love the job Dr. Justus Thomas does... His billing office is another story... I have met my deductible, paid $750 for the first surgery & $2000 for the hospital just two weeks ago and my insurance already showed I had met over $1000 of my $3000 deductible. They will not work with my insurance to help me not pay another $750 for my surgery tomorrow.... I had my insurance call them to state I have met the deductible, but they wouldn't return the call. I am so frustrated.... I should have only paid $160 for tomorrow surgery. Beware when using this office... Plan your surgeries far apart, that way you won't have to pay too much and wait for a refund.... read more

My wife and I have been seeing Dr. Thomas since losing Dr. Clark.. Our experience with Dr. Thomas cannot be expressed in words. He is one of the most Professional eye doctors we have found!!! O my gosh.! The care and concern that he has for his patients is not found in many doctor's offices today. His entire staff goes out of their way to quickly see us when our appointment time arrives. The office manager Naz makes it a point to walk around and check on each of the patients to ensure that, their visitation is excellent! Each of his staff has that same quality about them! Exceptional! We highly recommend Dr. Thomas's abilities as well as recommend his staff to you and your family! You will not find a more caring or focused doctor anywhere!!! When we move out of the Houston area we plan to continue as a patient with Dr. Thomas even if it means flying back to Houston for the appointment. One final word! Dr. Thomas is a Christian and loves God as much as he loves his patients. You cannot get any better than that! Bar None! read more

Our first appointment was to establish care with Dr. Thomas. He is a great doctor. Unfortunately, the people he has running his office are not professional and apparently are breaking the law. On the first visit at check out, it was very chaotic. The woman "helping us" was talking to other people, answering the phone, and not paying very much attention. She was tasked with getting us another appointment to a Neurological Ophthalmologist and having us pay our co-pay. Apparently, she can't walk and chew gum. As I'm standing at the counter I hear her arguing right in front of me with another person on the phone about some internal task that person was not doing correctly. She was reprimanding them very harshly. She did not seem to get along with others. I thought maybe she was just having a bad day. She checked us out, made the appointment, and we left. She did not get off the phone the entire time, and didn't even make eye contact with me. They also did NOT give us my husband's prescription for his glasses. Federal Trade Commission part 4, 5, 6, Ophthalmic practice rules section 456.2 separation of examination and dispensing, states that basically they are required to provide a patient with the prescription at the end of the appointment for no additional fee. I went in today and the front desk made us pay a $59 fee for the prescription before I could even meet with an Optician. I again had to go to the back desk where all the "pleasant" women sit. Again it was chaotic. Apparently there was some dispute so bad that they were all huddled around a "private" office (right in plain sight) and Dr. Thomas had to step in to settle some problem. It was very unprofessional and not to mention they are overcharging and stealing from their clients. I will never use this place again, and have advised all my family to never go there again. read more

So, I had a difficult time this year. It's been three years since my last visit, but now I know I won't be coming back. It isn't because of Dr. Gonzales, he did a wonderful job which is why I'm giving them a star in the first place. Other than that, I called to make an appointment on a Friday and got it the next Monday afternoon, I gave all my insurance information and was told it should be verified and good to go ahead of time. I get to my appointment and am told nothing, even after my appointment they tell me it'll be my regular copay and the years supply of contacts. 30 minutes later when I'm home I get a call saying they couldn't verify my insurance, so now I have to pay an additional $50, which I can pay when I go to pick up my order. Not even 10 minutes later, I get another call and a voicemail saying that my insurance won't cover their part so I have to pay even more out of pocket for half of my original order. That amount continually changes as I call and talk to different people as well as the total I'm paying for. I end up playing phone tag because even though the office isn't closed I call and get their after hours line, I then left two voicemails the next day letting them know I want to cancel my order and get no response even though their message states they will get back to you the same day. Furthermore, it seems like they don't listen to their voicemails because they call me 2 days later asking if I will want it or not! I told them to cancel it because I want to wait for my insurance to kick in, then get a call later by their manager to tell me that they have my order and ask if I want to pay the difference to get it? I told them no again. They tell me they'll cancel the order and refund me, but now instead of the $90 I was supposed to pay, I'm paying $114. I asked why it was a different amount and they told me they were already giving me a discount, but my copay should have only been $40. It has been 2 weeks since my visit and I still haven't received my refund. I understand that times are tough and they might be busy, and I'm not expecting to be their top priority, but they should have done better with their customer service and verified my insurance, because if they had I wouldn't be forced to pay so much out of pocket and it wouldn't have taken forever to get my situation corrected. Also I never received a clear answer as to what my refund will be or how much I ended up paying because I received different answers from different people. read more

Insane wait times. My first appointment there took nearly 5 hours and I was told by two people on Dr. Thomas' staff that he got back late from lunch that day and that he is never on time. I suspected I was hearing from disgruntled employees, but today was my follow up visit. I had an 8am appointment with Dr. Thomas. I arrived at the Kingwood location at 7:50am and the doors were still locked. Once they officially opened their doors, his staff was friendly and pleasant and ran more eye tests on me (which I did not know I was having - I thought I was there for a follow up visit on my dry eye condition and the medication I was using). After the additional testing, I was advised Dr. Thomas would be right with me. Shortly thereafter, I was told he was running about an hour late and I was asked if I wanted to wait for him or reschedule my visit. Ummm, no, I do not wish to wait an hour for the doctor to show. I opted to reschedule but I am frustrated and angry. Two visits with Dr. Thomas and he was late for both. I'm not sure what is going on here, but as it stands right now, I would definitely not recommend this place. I would give zero stars if possible. My son and I both see doctors at this office. Dr. Urso and Dr. Thomas are fantastic and the only reason that I have struggled to keep going to this office. The front office staff and the way this office is run is horrific. They have tried to bill me or contact fittings that didn't happen. They also started last year for seeing my son to have two different appointments one for his medical I exam and eyeglass prescription renewal and a separate one to be fitted for contact lenses at which time they try to do an additional exam so that they can bill for that also. These two visits fall under different insurance programs one being medical and one of being vision care. As much as they say it is not about trying to bill double, I find it odd that we constantly have to fight over the second exam after the first exam has just happened within a day or so. We can never seem to get in to see Dr. Thomas and the other doctor they're forcing us to see about the contact fitting on the same day. This frustrates me as it always causes me to remove my son from school twice to take care of his eyes. Sad to say there are other good doctors out there and I suggest go finding one of them in an office that is run more professionally with patient care in meets in mind. read more

The discharge papers lacked follow up information including new medication instructions, would care and most importantly the follow up appointment information. I called immediately upon returning from the sx center and was told to bring Mom in at 7:30 AM the next day. I confirmed twice the time. We arrived @7:30AM and were told Dr Thomas was in sx @ Hermann. So we left and called AGAIN for a time for the POST-OP appt time and was now given 1:30PM. Here we sit @ 1:45PM still waiting. I would give a ZERO but our family s working hard tomake this sx a success nd I am hopeful Dr Thomas is too, in spite of the significant medical follow up issues we have experienced. read more

Having had cataract surgery on my right eye earlier in the year, I decided to have the left eye done and this was the facility my insurance referred me to. 1st appt went well and scheduled for pre-op measure. Halfway through that appt, I asked the technician when I was supposed to take out my contact lens I was wearing; he never noticed it. Technician said I was supposed to be w/out contact for 2 weeks before measure. Well why did they schedule me for 8 days after initial appt and not tell me to take out lens? 1st delay, had to come back 2 weeks later. After measurements, surgery was rescheduled 3 times. Finally got it done and at post surgery check up, Dr said he was a perfectionist and wanted to tweek me for better vision. I said that if it cost me nothing extra, why not. Did it again and at post op check in Dr said he was very pleased. He said, "If I was going to have surgery like yours, I would want the vision I gave you. That is leaving the right eye for long distance and pulling back the left eye for reading." Well Doc, that is not what I asked for and definately not what I told you I wanted. I told you I wanted far distance binocular vision. That is, I wanted my left eye to, as closely as possible, match my right eye. Doctor, you and your staff need a refresher course on listening to your patients. It is not what you want that matters but what the patient wants. It seems to me that you have doomed me to a lifetime of vision related headaches, eyestrain that is. I cannot and will not recommend you and your churlish office workers to anyone. Should anyone ask my opinion of you and your staff, I will tell them; don't walk, but run in the opposite direction and stay as far away from these people as you can. read more
