This is the singular remaining superpower of a physical retail store in 2026: immediate possession of the item you need. The Force of instant gratification remains strong, even here. Found the strap, mission accomplished, and then did what I always do at Best Buy, which is wander. Checked out the latest video games, browsed the Arcade1up cabinets, scanned the toy section, looked for MTG sealed products, circled the LEGO display. This is less shopping and more of a wellness walk with a receipt at the end. I was greeted at the door by staff asking if I needed help, which I appreciated even if my answer was essentially "no thank you I am just here to roam the sector." Here is the honest part though. Best Buy in the early 2000s felt like Coruscant at its peak, a sprawling, buzzing destination where you could spend hours and leave with something genuinely exciting. Walking through the Castleton location today feels more like visiting a once great Republic outpost that the Empire slowly drained of resources. The floor space that used to overflow with product now echoes a little. The video game section gets thinner every year as the industry goes digital. The whole experience carries faint Radio Shack and Circuit City energy, two names that should send a chill down the spine of any retail establishment still standing. And yet here I am, still going. Still wandering. Still leaving with something I could have ordered online but didn't because getting out of the house matters too. Best Buy is not what it was, and it probably knows it. But it showed up, it had my strap, and it gave my family a reason to browse on a Sunday. That counts for something in this galaxy. Four stars for a 3-star establishment that survives on convenience, nostalgia, and the slim hope that someone still wants to see a PS5 video game controller in person before buying it.

While I had no plans to update my review, as the experience has finally wound down I decided it was appropriate to write a review based upon the entire process now that my old refrigerator is, in fact, hauled away and my new refrigerator is kinda sorta installed. As I'd noted, I'd had a poor experience eight years ago and since then have sworn off Best Buy despite an affection for the company from an experience interviewing with them many years ago. My refrigerator died not long before Labor Day. I'd never had to deal with replacing an appliance. However, I needed to get done fairly quickly since food was going bad and so were some medicines. I looked around. My space in my home isn't the greatest and dimensions had to really be just right. That wasn't an easy task. I checked quite a few places. Best Buy was having Labor Day specials and I found a fairly simple fridge at a great price. I ordered it as it had nearly perfect dimensions for my space. I scheduled delivery and opted for the install and haul away package. So far, so good. The first attempt at haul away/install occurred over Labor Day weekend on Saturday. I received advance texts with clear directions on what to do prior to their arrival. They gave me a window of time a couple days from when I placed the order. They arrived on time. The unfortunate part begins with the discovery that the dead fridge was hooked into my waterline underneath my kitchen sink. Apparently, Best Buy drivers are not allowed to disconnect what takes about five minutes. We discussed options and it was agreed that I would call them to set up a revisit. Within the hour, I had the disconnect done and called to schedule a new time. They said I couldn't do it. Despite being told to do exactly this, I was told I had to wait until the end of their shift so that the lack of installation/haul away was in the system. I was literally still within my delivery time. Never mind that one rep had already called me about it. So, I was stuck with spoiled foods and spoiling medications. So frustrating. So simple to fix. I had the fridge ready to for hook-up, I had the old fridge ready to be hauled away. Instead, I had to wait and buy the time I was able to actually put the revisit in motion only the 3rd was available (I was even off an extra day on the 2nd, however, by that point it was clear they didn't care about me, my meds, my fridge, or anything but their bottom line. After an afternoon spent trying to get things arranged, my frustrations boiled over. I came close to simply canceling haul away/install and arranging for another person to do it. I came close to returning it. I finally rescheduled for today, my next day off. I received the same reminder call. I asked them to make sure to send the manual (they actually did. Yay.). The delivery team was here on time in my window of 1-5pm (they actually arrived around 1:20pm and called 10 minutes away). Another fun catch: In addition to being unable to disconnect a refrigerator from water, they also cannot reverse the hinge on a reversible hinge (which I needed for my wheelchair). So, if you're keeping score. Install and haul away is a waste of time and money. Don't use it. They have all kinds of limits that are not in writing and I've yet to experience anyone interested in actually helping. If you've read my reviews, you know I lean positive. Out of 1800+ reviews, I have about 16 1-star reviews. This is easily one of the worst retail experiences I've had and undoubtedly the end of my relationship with Best Buy. There's not a chance I will use them again. As I told their social media, even after the initial issues there was a great chance of fixing the problem and helping me feel good about it. Best Buy failed at every point and, worse to me, never seemed to care. Best Buy? Bye-bye.

He is funny and gives personal advice as if it were his laptop. They provide free diagnostics. He didn't apply any pressure to purchase anything, so I was able to peruse freely and make an easy decision. He does provide electronics recycling or resale if you're ready to get rid of your old device. He was responsive when I called to make sure they were open on a holiday. The signage within the strip mall (called Zone31) makes it easy to locate this storefront, and parking is plentiful.

Somewhere along the way, certain folks involved in the project parted ways with a Castleton location becoming what I believe is now called Computer Express and this location on Pendleton Pike laying claim to the actual Computer Renaissance name. I'd had a not terrific experience with the Castleton location and also with another small computer store in the Castleton area, so the first time I popped into this store 3-4 years ago I was more than a little hesitant. I was preparing to head out on the road and would be traveling a couple hundred miles by wheelchair. I wanted a laptop that would endure and allow me to stay in touch with folks while on the road. Even though it was only a few days before I left, the folks at Computer Renaissance hooked me up with a fairly priced used Dell laptop along with a wireless adapter. They gave me a great deal on a computer that lasted for quite awhile. They answered all my questions and got me all set up for the road. Early this morning, my monitor died and I was in the middle of a pretty important project. So, I headed back to Computer Renaissance to see what kind of a deal I could find on a new or used monitor. Computer Renaissance is located in Sunnyside Shoppes in one of several strip centers in the area. It's easily visible from Pendleton Pike an even has an accessible parking spot with a ramp right in front of it. You go into their double doors and there's a service counter to the left and a showroom with mostly used models on the floor along with all the usual ancillary supplies one usually finds in a computer store including monitors, keyboards, motherboards, etc. Computer Renaissance carries desktops, laptops, notebooks, etc. They do computer repair in store or they will do housecalls ($50 for a service call, $85 for the first hour). HP, Dell and Lenovo Business-Grade laptops start at $199 (Lenovo actually starts at $149). The have Windows 10 Pro Desktops starting at $399 and Windows 10 Pro Business-Grade Desktops starting at $199. I saw an IMac 2 for right around $349 tonight (I was way tempted) and I can easily say they have something to fit just about any budget. You always want to check their website as they're usually running specials and sometimes you need to mention it to get it (for example, they have a winter special - 15% of all used desktops, 10% off all used laptops, but you have to mention the special. While the monitor that died on me was an HD monitor, I wasn't necessarily concerned about buying another one right away. They had a couple of brand new, in the box HD monitors. I've noticed that their new products do tend to run at market rates. Instead, I opted to look for a wider-screen monitor. Tonight, the widest they had was 20" - they had two ready to go and I found one that seemed perfect. It ran $59 plus tax. Most of their used monitors are rated by screen size. The prices, I've found, are fair but also reflect the fact that they do serious quality control on their merchandise. I trust these guys to not sell me junk. So far, I've not been disappointed. They added in the cables I'd need, which I think is pretty good since we're talking about used products here. One of the employees even carried it to the car for me. They take cash and credit (with ID - and they do ask for it). They do not take checks. If you're on a budget or in a time crunch, Computer Renaissance does quality work at fair prices for both selling of equipment and computer repair. While I've not had a computer repaired there, a friend has and her experience was similar to mine. They're always friendly, willing to answer questions, can typically handle rush repairs and don't try to upsell just to make a bigger profit. I'm happy and I'll definitely keep going back.

I tried to read articles on how to fix the quirks myself, but finally decided I needed professional help. My dad had used Computer Overdrive in the past so I thought I'd give it a go. They are a small locally-owned Speedway business which is a plus. Computer Overdrive also takes a look for no charge with a free diagnostic check. And when repairs were made, it was much more affordable than going through Dell like I had in the past for another issue. Laptop was dropped off Monday morning and is back in my lap Friday afternoon/evening. The time felt a bit long, but that may have just been my Netflix withdrawals kicking in. It indeed turn out to be that since my laptop was bought with Windows 8 (which I loved, btw), it was still trying to work in the background even though it updated to 10 and was causing a conflict. So happy to be able to do all the things I like to do online now without it dropping my wifi connection and giving me network errors. They gave it a tune up and even installed some extras for me it appears for keeping the laptop clean and secure. I had similar in the past, but the icons on the desktop disappeared as well after the Windows 10 crapdate. So if you're like me and aren't quite up to scratch on the latest technology and need a helping hand, this is the place. No long lines or a myriad of 800 numbers to call that transfer you all over to other countries like Dell and the horrid Geek Squad. Just drop it off and it's done in a relatively short amount of time at a good price. I will return if Windows decides to sneak an 11 version on me.

The store is run by one gentleman who has worked in IT for several years. According to his card, he offers a variety of services including desktop, laptop and tablet repair as well as virus removal, data backup and recovery, networking as well as assistance with smart phones and printers. He was able to determine my computer needed a new power supply, and as long as I had him replace it, he would not charge me extra for the diagnostic. I went with this option and found the price very reasonable. The owner was very genial and helpful and the repair was finished in a few days. Highly recommended!

Well I go in and they tried to make up some excuse as to why they didn't call. They un-fixed what they did. They also give you copies of windows that Microsoft has disabled due to abuse. I really wish I could give a negative rating. It's so obvious they don't care about the customer and that they all hate there jobs. You walk in and they are like "wtf are you doing here".
