We sent our kitchen assembly instructions ahead of time to make sure they were aware. My overall sense is that Carlos is fairly capable and experienced but either his team or him are not as careful as we had damages to our finished wood toe kicks and our lacquer cabinets looked like they had been dragged over nails as they were being assembled. I didn't appreciate that they made 0 mention of it at all and I had to point it out. As the homeowner, I essentially had to baby sit them for 5 days through the install since it felt like they were incapable / unwilling to read the kitchen cabinet installation instructions in detail and I caught several mistakes early on during the cabinet assembly that made me hesitant to leave it unattended. Carlos's attitude was particularly bad through the entire experience as well. Always made it seem like we were inconveniencing him or being too nit picky even if we caught some mistakes. At one point, he even threatened to quit after the assembly but before the installation simply because he had underestimated the complexity of the project. We did have a 1 day delay due to some plumbing / electrical issues but that's pretty typical as far as kitchen cabinet installations go AFAIK. In the end, they were able to get all the kitchen cabinets installed, albeit with a lot of effort from my end due to the more custom nature of the project. The price was affordable and the work was solid (minus the scratches) but for me the bad attitude wasn't worth it.

The rough sketches I provided worked for other cabinetmakers to generate bids, but Andrew repeatedly insisted that Ogee would require additional professional drawings before providing any estimate. That's fine if it's their policy -- but the way it was communicated felt dismissive. A large chunk of the call was spent watching him try to locate photos of a past project while he was screen sharing. After several minutes of this, I asked if we could just refocus on the conversation. Overall, the interaction felt scattered and oddly adversarial for what should have been a straightforward information-gathering session.

They offer both design and construction services, all under the same owner. This was convenient in that I only had to deal with one company and they took care of everything. Our project was unusual in that I was 6 months pregnant when we started the project. Typically, they don't start on construction until all materials are in stock but we needed to get things moving and completed quickly, so we ordered mostly standard sized and in-stock materials. The owner, Shawn, kept his promise on adhering to our timeline to the best of his ability, even as we ran into challenges with plumbing, structural, and electrical. His team worked tirelessly--even on weekends--to meet our deadline, without sacrificing quality or details. With any major construction, nothing is flawless. The one challenge I had, which may be unique to my circumstance, was getting proactive updates and just overall communication. At times, the construction team didn't even know what they were working on. Some of the designs didn't match the materials ordered. There was some miscommunication on which materials we were responsible for vs. what they would get for us. These were minor issues that eventually got resolved but it did cause me some stress and unrest. Highly recommend being proactive, with any big construction project, and staying close to the details... At the end of the day, despite some bumps, we now have our dream kitchen! And it was completed in record time! Last but not least, if you're told that any materials are "stuck" at the Oakland port, GET SOMETHING ELSE that's in stock. There is no ETA on when things will get unloaded at the dock...could be weeks or even months.

1 STAR -- EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH WEST COAST SHIPPING I…read morehave never experienced this level of poor customer service from a company that is supposed to handle something as important and expensive as international vehicle shipping. My car arrived in Europe 2-3 months later than promised, which was already completely unacceptable. But the biggest problem was that my car was damaged during the handling/unloading process. I paid for an entire 20-foot container exclusively for my shipment. Despite having an entire container, my vehicle was lifted and positioned in a way that left extremely little clearance around it, while moving boxes were placed underneath the vehicle. The car was apparently resting on/against a metal support/post, and it was damaged as a result. What makes this situation even worse is the way Alex, who is the main person I have been dealing with, has handled the problem. I personally contacted Alex multiple times. I managed to speak with him twice, and both times his response was essentially to blame the people who unloaded the vehicle. I repeatedly asked a simple question: if the vehicle was going to be lifted and positioned with almost no clearance, why wasn't I informed beforehand? If I had known, I would have specifically told them NOT to handle the car that way. There were also other ways the boxes could have been organized inside a container that I paid for exclusively for my shipment. I also purchased insurance specifically for situations like this. I am NOT asking for some outrageous amount of money. I simply want a reasonable resolution that would allow me to repair the damage to my vehicle. Unfortunately, after initially speaking with me, Alex has essentially disappeared. Every time I call, I am told a different story -- he is on vacation, in a meeting, out of the office, unavailable, etc. I have been trying to get this resolved, and instead of taking responsibility and helping a paying customer, I feel like I am being deliberately avoided. The damage is one problem. The way West Coast Shipping has treated me afterward is an even bigger problem. Mistakes can happen in shipping. What matters is how a company responds when something goes wrong. In my experience, West Coast Shipping failed completely in that regard. I paid for professional international shipping, a dedicated container, and insurance. I expected my vehicle to arrive on time and in the condition in which it was delivered to them. Instead, it arrived months late and damaged, and now I cannot even get the company's CEO/main representative, Alex, to properly address the situation. I strongly recommend that anyone considering West Coast Shipping think very carefully and ask exactly how their vehicle will be secured, loaded, lifted, and protected before handing over their car. For me, the worst part isn't even the damage. It's paying a company for a professional service and then being ignored when you need them to stand behind that service. Very disappointing experience.
